The big data-dump of 250,000 leaked diplomatic cables reveal that American diplomats occasionally spy on other diplomats, the Arabs don’t like the Persians, British royalty can be rude, and Obama and his disciples have poor opinions of other world leaders. Oh, and the Chinese government might be trying to censor parts of the internet, the Russian government might have ties to organized crime and members of the Afghan government might be corrupt.
Really? The UK’s Guardian says the leak of the diplomatic cable “sparks a global diplomatic crisis.” Michael Kinsley famously said once that a “gaffe” in DC was committed when someone mistakingly spoke the truth. I guess the stripped-pants crowd is a bit more high-strung. Speaking the truth isn’t a gaffe among the embassy set, its a full-blown ‘crisis.’
Congressman Peter King (R-NY) says the Wikileaks organization should be classified as a “terrorist organization” and its founder, Julian Assange should be criminally prosecuted. Personally, I think Mr. Assange should be sued for false advertising. The revelations from the diplomatic cables aren’t anywhere near what was promised. I want my money back.
Of course, it is possible that more startling revelations come to light. Color me skeptical, though, as it seems Assange would lead with his best stuff. Regardless, I don’t think the real scandal is the content of the cables. I think it is this:

The UK Guardian explains it was actually pretty easy:
It was childishly easy, according to the published chatlog of a conversation Manning had with a fellow-hacker. “I would come in with music on a CD-RW labelled with something like ‘Lady Gaga’ … erase the music … then write a compressed split file. No one suspected a thing … [I] listened and lip-synched to Lady Gaga’s Telephone while exfiltrating possibly the largest data spillage in American history.” He said that he “had unprecedented access to classified networks 14 hours a day 7 days a week for 8+ months”.
Lady Gaga? Is this a joke?
In case you are thinking that Private Manning was some kind of brilliant cyber-sleauth who figured out how to get special access to the cables:
More than 3 million US government personnel and soldiers, many extremely junior, are cleared to have potential access to this material, even though the cables contain the identities of foreign informants, often sensitive contacts in dictatorial regimes. Some are marked “protect” or “strictly protect”.
Three million people have access to classified information that can ’spark a global diplomatic crisis?” Really? Again, is this some kind of joke? Do they give out access for simply eating your vegetables?
This is indicative of why I’ve never bought any of those wild conspiracies of super-secret actions by the government. Most of those theories would necessitate super-duper and elaborate planning and coordination and ninja-like execution. Our government just isn’t anywhere near that competent. Less like ninjas, it is really more like the Apple Dumpling Gang.
So, let’s put aside the gossipy stuff and ask the really important question: Who put these idiots in charge of anything?

Dear President Obama,
I’ve got to tell you, you are starting to remind me of the fish that gasps for air next to a 100 gallon fish tank full of water. The notion that you are in any way either prepared to be or capable of being The President of The United States is absolutely nuts. With all due respect you could not operate a snow plow, in summer. These wikileaks are fascinating. Bearing all of this in mind, you want The US Congress to vote on even one notion the springs forth from your pinko commie trained brain? You people act like us normal people on paper, but when you get in front of a camera you become the biggest bald faced liars on God’s green earth. The truth will set you free. Lets cover some of that now.
There comes a point in any given con when the abandonment of the farce is more painful then the continuation of the farce – for everyone it is different. The tolerance to maintain the lie varies from person to person, country to country. The electorate in the United States wants it brought to a rapid end, that is why 750 or so elected offices are now in Republican hands. Yet, the con remains protected by bureaucrats and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, and of course you, who still breath life into the lie that realizes only trillions in debt, and deficits. To shut this con down is going to take one more election, and your loss. Because as far as con men go Mr. Obama, you are the gold standard, they even gave you the Nobel Peace Prize, as we stand ever closer to a war, once again, on the Korean peninsula, and are actually at war with one side of the same muslim/arab coin. Why do you people have such low character? If someone offered me something I did not earn, that was a designation of merit, I would refuse it.
Wikileaks, while treasonous, is fascinating reading. It is not very comforting to know that utter morons are in control of the diplomatic efforts of many countries. I have to say. You people do not only need immunity from legal systems; diplomats need immunity from stupidity too! Do you people realize the environment you are operating in? You can put a camera on the head of a pin, and a microphone in the spine of a book and give it as a gift, turn a cell phone into a microphone then broadcast it. This is not the time for small things and musings, it is time for some cold ice water in the face and a recognition of what must be done to preserve this country as the last place where individual freedom and liberty is the rule, and not the rare exception.
This farce that you Ivy league educated smarmy good for nothing elitist are running has got to come to an end. Sooner rather than later. Why is Bernie Maddoff in jail? Why is Dennis Kozlowski in jail? Because theft is a government operation, and the government really hates competition.

Pure common sense tells me that our super-mega-classified-top-secret stuff is NOT going to be accessible to any nit with a regular security clearance. And I doubt it would even be accessible from the kind of system the spiteful little dweeb worked at. So it's no wonder the Wikileaks stuff is full of BFO (Blinding Flash of the Obvious) information.
Moral character matters. Political correctness dismisses this reality. This is not to say that all gay people lack moral character but the fact is a great many do when they use their own chosen sexuality as a means of protest. In EOD the need to know was our escape for just about everything, if I had a nickel for every time I told someone with a Clearance that they did not have a need to know info that I had, or what I was doing at the time, well, I would have a pocket full of nickels.
The Personnel Reliability Program has also changed. We all watched each other, as did everyone else on or in charge of the PRP.
We had regular check-ups, and, watching each other all the time would have caused someone to question even the smallest change in a Unit Member.
We had daily PRP pulls. Get your PRP pulled and no work that day, or the day after, until the Troop gets his head on straight, or is replaced with a Troop that works.

The Army gives just about anybody a Secret clearance, all it takes is a little bit of paperwork and a limited background check. We were handing secret clearances like candy when we were deployed to Iraq. Practically everything in theater is classified and thus A LOT of people need clearances to view said classified material. On the other hand Top Secret clearance, as this joker had, are far more difficult to obtain.
I was also intelligence analyst in the Army, and it would have been painfully easy for me to do as this piece of shit private did. There strict security rules in place, but they weren't strictly enforced because they are generally a pain in the ass to follow. This is especially true when deployed where units dont' really have the time or means to follow all the security rules. I imagine the assumption has been that no one would be really crazy enough to do as this private has done. But I have always been worried what someone pissed off at the military could do. You can be assured that the military is severely cracking down on this, this private made the Army look like a joke. I can only imagine how much of a pain in the ass things are becoming now in dealing with classified information. As everyone in the military knows it only takes one person to screw everything up for the everybody else. But it will be for the better.
One only needs a Secret clearance and access to the SIPRNET (The government's internet classified up to Secret/Noforn) to access all the material that has been leaked. In deployed units SIPRNET connections are everywhere, they are the primary means of communication. Just be thankful this joker didn't have access to JWICS (The governments Top Secret internet) where things far far more damaging are stored.
I hope this guys gets at least 70 years, if not getting charged with treason and execute. It would sure set an example but of course won't happen.

At 22 a Troop can already have 5 years in the Military, and Handling Classified is a lot different than knowing what the intel means.

Why was the Computer that the Troop had access to equipped with a CD/ROM Drive?
I know Troops with a hell of a lot higher Clearance than Manning had and they are younger, same Rank.
But, they are good Troops, and they are always watched by the Sergeants who are the EOD Team Leaders, I would have asked to listen to the CD that Manning always seemed to have with him, find out why he liked it so much, I may have been missing out on something good.

The Army enveloped EOD, smacked us down, made EOD something it was never meant to be, and, now the stress has taken its toll, seeing how there is more work now days.
Good EOD Techs are hard to come by, a Gay EOD Trooper (which I'm sure there are, know there have been, and guess there will be) would have been left to work, as long as he (or she) kept his Sexuality hidden from everyone else, and that's before DADT. As soon as there was a problem in the Troops personal life that compromised his ability to work, the Troop would have been pulled.

O'Keefe isn't the type of individual to leak security documents that would endanger the U.S. The ACORN investigation was conducted because of its voter fraud, corruption, and promoting underage prostitution.
