Pelosi Fact Check: Rangel Did Violate House Rules
by Mike FlynnIts been another week that I’m certain the Democrats in DC are happy to put behind them. Happy too, probably, that another snowicane slammed the Northeast. Anything to distract any part of the populace from what can only be described as a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad week.
A few weeks ago, the Democrats loudly proclaimed they would “pivot to jobs” and public concerns about spending. But, their addiction to ‘comprehensive health reform’ proved too powerful, culminating in one last, ‘we really mean it this time’ effort to pass a proposal opposed by a majority of the public. Yesterday’s surreal six-hour gab-fest/lecture on the topic was almost too bizarre to invite further comment. I mean, the spectacle speaks for itself. How did this ever seem like a good idea, even on paper. Giving the GOP a national platform to talk intelligently on health care is certainly an interesting strategy to pass ObamaCare. Clearly, too brilliant for me to understand.
As if the ’summit’ debacle weren’t enough for Democrats to welcome the weekend, we now get the revelation that, according to the House Ethics Committee, Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-NY) did in fact violate House ethics rules. (Shock!) Of course, simple facts aren’t really a problem for House Speaker Pelosi. If they are inconvenient, she’ll just pick some new ones. From today’s The Hill:
Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she’s once again sticking by embattled Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) — at least for now.
Pelosi (D-Calif.) said during a Friday press conference that she had not yet read the full report from the ethics committee, which admonished Rangel, the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, for improperly accepting reimbursement for two trips to the Caribbean.
“All I saw was the press release where they said he did not violate the rules of the House,” Pelosi said. “And I think that’s an important statement that they made.”
Fine except, you know, he did violate the rules of the House.
From the Ethics Committee’s official statement:
“The Report further finds that Representative Charles B. Rangel violated the House gift rule by accepting payment or reimbursement for travel to the 2007 and 2008 conferences.”
I’m not certain what press release exonerating Rangel Pelosi is referring to, but shouldn’t she be paying just a tad bit more attention to alleged ethical violations by one of the most powerful members of her caucus. We are talking about the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, perhaps the most powerful committee on the hill. I would hope Nancy “drain the swamp” Pelosi might do a bit more than just glance at a press release on the matter.
Then again, it has been a pretty bad week for her side. Perhaps she’ll just move to Australia.

I wouldn't get my hopes up expecting Pelosi to do anything other than getting that puzzled, bug eyed look on her face when she is telling lies, ie., when her paralyzed lips are flapping. Perhaps Rangel has some knowledge of "skeletons in the closet" or, just as likely, is being given a free pass because he has redistributed so much campaign money to numerous members of congress.
Fat head (Pelosi) needs to cut Fat boy (Rangel) loose if the dems are serious about their image.

I read his excuse is that he didn't know, his aids did. My view is anyone with his seniority should know the rules and hiding behind his aids is bull crap. The dems are quick to call for the heads of others who mess up, it is time to live by their own rules. To do anything else should result in Nancy being recalled for incompetence.
Charlie Rangle, Nancy Pelosi = Must Go and Will Go
California is a ginormous sewer pit caused in part by the very regulations and laws Nancy Pelosi has imposed on the people and business's of that once great state. Charlie Rangle is a toadie that's been sitting in the warm pot for WAY too long. It's about time to turn the heat up and boil these two corrupt elitist clowns.
My mom works in one of NYC's top hospitals and has met "Crazy Eyes" Rangel (her nickname) on a few occasions. He barges in for ridiculous reasons, shuts half the hospital down for himself, and treats the staff as if they are absolute scum. I once couldn't believe that this guy could year in, year out, continue to hold elected office. Then I realized he represents Harlem…
I believe the section she was referring to was as follows : "The Committee does not find sufficient evidence to conclude, nor does it believe that it would discover additional evidence to alter its conclusion, that Representative Rangel had actual knowledge of the memoranda written by his staff."
Cherrypicking this sentence infers that Rep. Rangel did not do anything improper. Indeed, he did not, according to the evidence presented. The next sentence :
"However, the report finds that Representative Rangel was responsible for the knowledge and actions of his staff in the performance of their official duties."
In other words, the boss is responsible for his people. That's kind of how things work.
It also ignores the opening sentence of that paragraph.
“The Report further finds that Representative Charles B. Rangel violated the House gift rule by accepting payment or reimbursement for travel to the 2007 and 2008 conferences.”
What part of any of this is difficult to read and understand? Lesson one of political theater – know and understand the facts before you open your mouth!
Oh for heaven’s sake. Did Charlie violate the public trust? Nancy Pelosi, doesn’t have her facts straight? The House ethics committee finally released something regarding the long time investigation on Mr. Rangel? I’m pretty sure I heard the earth crack. Let’s just see how much obfuscation the Speaker can muster up in this one. Ahh, she won’t obfuscate, she will just lie outright.
Rangel is a mirror image of his constituents. What did you expect? Honesty?

The "Poster Boy" for what happens when a previously free nation compromises it's philosophy of limited government and personal responsibility and, piecemeal, accepts the unearned wealth of their fellow citizens as entitlement.
Taxes go up, producers keep less of what they earn, unearned government "benefits" (wealth transfer payments) continue to rise and expand. Producers produce less in response, less economic activity takes place and the parasites then demand even more. No problem, just sell some more T-bills. Inflation, you say? So the producer has less purchasing power, less capital is available to the private sector for loans, and there is less activity, and the parasite has reduced purchasing power and thus needs more in "benefits". Raise taxes, borrow more, pay tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow…
This encourages enterprise, work and self sufficiency how?

I don't think the problem is Rangle or Pelosi, it's all of them. There isn't an ounce of integrity left in Washington, if there ever was any. Ethics? Honesty? Not in Washington, there isn't a single elected official with clean hands but in their defense the people keep voting them in. I think not, there needs to be an independent body, that means not made up of senators or congressmen otherwise we will never have any meaningful over site.

As I recall, former Speaker of the House James Wright (D) Texas and Newt Gingrich (R) Georgia were drummed out of the House due to improprieties. Tom DeLay (R) Texas was booted for his problems.
This Charles Rangle fiasco is a double edged sword for Madame Pelosi. Either she calls for his head to roll, and asks for Rangle to get the same treatment as others have gotten, or she is protecting him. It can't be both ways. If she is protecting Charlie Rangle, Nancy Pelosi needs thrown out as well……………
