Internet Lays Foundation for GOP Rebirth
by Mytheos HoltAs anyone who has any recollection of the aftermath of the 2008 election cycle knows, the GOP is hopelessly behind on the internet, cannot possibly marshal any web resources on its behalf because it’s stuck in the 19th century politically and will be eclipsed by the forces of Web 2.0 as surely as Democrats were eclipsed by talk radio.

Or at least, that’s what the Mainstream Media force-fed to people after the 2008 election cycle. Naturally, like most Mainstream Media memes, it was an abject lie, but still, somehow the fear worked its way around establishment GOP circles to the point that a veritable avalanche of hysteria crashed down on party activists. “Why, if the internet swings to the Left,” many supposedly “concerned conservative” commentators opined, “then surely our restrictive, overly ideological makeup will make it impossible for us to attract anyone!”
One can’t blame them for buying an argument which was made with such nauseating frequency. Yet, as recent events since the Obama election have shown, the idea that conservatism cannot capture the internet is not at all accurate. What few people may realize, however, is why this argument was so inaccurate, and more importantly, why it took a Messianic bumbler like Obama to expose its falsehood. With respect, therefore, I must disagree with my fellow contributor’s rejection of youth culture as something irrevocably tainted by liberalism, though I understand his frustration entirely.
However, as I mean to prove, the current youth ethos embodied by internet subculture is fundamentally conservative in character, even if its denizens have not yet caught on to that fact. In order to prove this, I will draw on knowledge that I have gained both as an avid internet user and as a member of a generation for whom digital communication is a second language – knowledge which would require investigating not only the harmless environs of Youtube, Facebook and Twitter, but also the darkest, least talked about nether-regions of the internet – websites which produce 90% of the internet’s cultural references, and yet are so riddled with perversity that their own patrons take it as an unspoken rule never to talk about them.
Not that these sites have gone unnoticed – indeed, some of their less savory exploits are infamous. For instance, on September 22, 2008, National Review blogger Andrew Grossman named one such website in an article dealing with the hacking of Governor Sarah Palin’s email account: “According to reports, one of a group of online delinquents who hang out on a message board called ‘/b/’ on a site called 4chan — they’re known as ‘b-tards’ — discovered that Governor Palin uses Yahoo! for her e-mail. He was able to reset the account’s password using information gleaned from Google searches: Palin’s zip code, her birthdate, and where she met her spouse…After he posted the details of his exploit on 4chan, a slew of forum denizens accessed the account to root through Palin’s correspondence.”
Now, to be sure, there are those among the “b-tards” whom Grossman describes who would no doubt fit the description of “delinquent,” but what no one out there seems to realize is that, were it not for websites like the aforementioned /b/, not only would countless recognizable internet memes not exist, but also, at least one influential political figure would arguably not have nearly the level of recognition he currently enjoys.
I refer to the truest example of an internet mobilizing politician, Dr. Ron Paul of Texas. Though many people only know Paul as a vaguely conspiracy-minded, neo-isolationist anti-Federal Reserve crusader, what they may not know is that one of Paul’s many titles is “President of the Internets,” (WARNING!!! EXTREMELY NSFW) a title which was bestowed on him early in the 2008 election cycle by the 4chan-affiliated wiki website, Encyclopedia Dramatica. As a result, according to Encyclopedia Dramatica (or ED, as its frequent patrons know it), “Paul placed FIRST (37%) in the MySpace primary, ahead of Huckabee (18%) and Giuliani (16%).” And though 90% of what gets posted on Encyclopedia Dramatica is freely acknowledged by its readers as ironic, intentionally offensive nonsense, when it comes to meticulously documenting the evolution of internet phenomena, it is one of the most reliable sources available, if you can stomach the NSFW images and extremely offensive language.
Alright, you may be wondering, but so what? Even if a bunch of rabid anarchy-mongering internet crazies turned out for Paul, what does that have to do with the GOP’s power on the internet? The answer is that, even if you accept the framing of such sites as hotbeds of craziness and rabid disorder, there is a method to their madness. As for what that madness is, once you get past the persistent ironic glorifications of perversity and take a look at how the people who frequent these sites actually behave, and more importantly, who they target, it becomes abundantly clear that not only are the values of such sites fundamentally conservative, but that their communications strategies, even if toned down for a mainstream audience, are nothing less than the perfect weapons for disassembling the Obama Presidency.
If this seems strange, it shouldn’t. In fact, much as the highly controversial and obscene Comedy Central show South Park gave rise to a populist, pro-National Security, anti-political correctness breed of young Republican in the early 2000s, I would argue that the new decade could see a similar rise of iconoclastic, libertarian, anti-political correctness sentiment among what I would term “4chan Republicans.” There are three reasons why this could easily happen, which I will explore in detail below.
Firstly, as already alluded, the current administration embodies everything internet subculture hates. For instance, some of the most common targets for internet backlash are people suffering from cases of what is termed “unwarranted self-importance.” There is perhaps no term which has been better coined to describe the current President’s outlook on life and governance. Billing oneself as the sole causal factor in reducing climate change and expecting one’s personal preferences to constitute a compelling reason to move the Olympics are hardly signs of humility. Moreover, one element of internet subculture which is persistently invoked is the drive for free expression (often of the most politically incorrect variety possible), unhampered by restrictions of either an economic or governmental variety, and certainly without regard for offended parties.
The Democratic party, dominated as it is by multiculturally-minded quasi-socialists, many of whom have arguably been long since emasculated by sensitivity training, speech codes and other cornerstones of “progressive” victim-mongering, could not possibly provide a satisfactory home to such people. In fact, judging by the actions of internet goons, some of the Democrats’ most treasured constituencies have already fallen afoul of them.
And who are these targets? Besides the one conservative/mainstream example of Sarah Palin (who has not been pestered since), the answer is that the targets for repeated attacks are, by and large, people who most of wider society considers undesirable, many of whom are shielded from more official criticism by the wall of political correctness. These targets include such revolting examples as feminist bloggers who muse openly about aborting their teenage sons because all men are “potential rapists,” stalking vloggers who draw terrifying cartoon pornography of themselves with female friends, open white supremacists and, perhaps most infamously, the Church of Scientology. While one can disapprove of the tactics used against these institutions/individuals (some of which make the much vilified “enhanced interrogation techniques” look positively benign by comparison), it is worth noting that ultimately, the power of internet goons lies in their ability to enforce social norms against the most flagrantly vile members of society through private sanction – something which conservatives from Russell Kirk and Irving Kristol to Tom Coburn and Dick Cheney have endorsed. What’s more, at the point where their targets/members actually run afoul of the law, these users have historically turned the relevant information over to law enforcement, suggesting a desire to be hard on crime.
In short, unlike previous generations, when all the forms of counterculture have swung to the Left and emboldened the forces of chaos and social subversion, the darkest, most countercultural corners of the internet are possessed of a singular desire for spontaneous and brutally enforced social order. What’s more, their allergy to self-importance and the authoritarianism of victimhood marks them as prime targets for liberalism’s self-appointed multicultural targets, and as potential sleeper cells in the culture war. Given the power of these sites to define internet subculture, rally donations, win polls and crown previous third tier candidates as prophets of an insurgent movement, it seems indisputable that the conservative movement has much to gain if it only learns to speak in their language.

Thank God for the internet.
Poor old man Gore, his internet is coming back to bite him in the but. all the msm ignoring those of us who seem to have some understanding of right wrong and free will wonder why as they continue to lose their jobs as papers shut down acroos the land. One would think they could see this coming. The hand feeding thme is gonna take it off at the elbow.
Let's hope we can salvage the internet before they impose their silly "net neutering" law, the only reason they want that piece anti American is to allow only for "approved" dissent….
Thank You for this outlet Mr Breitbart and Mr Holt for this article.
For as long as we can stop 'net neutering', let's hope that outlandish bill doesn't pass either…
Thank God and Algore for the internet, and thank the cosmos for Andrew Breitbart!
As a group, and a demographic, Conservatives are a tad bit slow, and not quick on the uptake as far as this newfangled internet thingey goes. We are too busy paying bills, paying taxes, and driving the engine of capitalism. Howard Dean was the precursor to using the internet for his advantage. Barrack Obama learned well from him.
Although slow, we have caught on, and will beat them at their own game. As long as Janet Napitalano doesn't pull the plug on US…………
This is what helps the GOP
"read my lips no new taxes" Bush Senior
"I have to abandon free market principles in order to save the free market" Dubya
Should Jeb Bush run for 2012, and keep the R's version of camelot alive?
Yep, first Mr Gore lost on global warming, now he is losing the Internet.
.
Well, at least he can blame 2012 on Stone and Parker
Glenn Reynolds at "Instapundit" was kicking leftist internet ass waaay before 2008 – he's a warrior, like Breitbart…
…and his book "Army of Davids" set the blueprint for the success conservatives/libertarians are having now.
[...] Internet Lays Foundation for GOP Rebirth [...]
should the "fairness doctrine" and "net neutrality" concepts be enforced on college facultys where the Libs run rampant?
PS: Loved the black and white photo of Breitbart "behind the wire". I reckon that is how all the conservatives will look in the future, once we are rounded up and taken to our new "redoctrination camps". I wonder, will we get tattooes?
Gun confiscation by the military after Katrina is what helps the GOP.
Welfare payments to Israel are what help the GOP.
Welfare state of Afghanastan paying for police officers and backing a phony election and government are what helps the GOP.
That was a very powerful article. The funny thing is, one can really take a look at some posts on some of the news sites, to really get an understanding of where people are coming from, and see "
internet goons lies in their ability to enforce social norms against the most flagrantly vile members of society through private sanction"
It is easy to see the left on these sites, the attacks are canned. They never consist of anything substantive, just empty smears.
I think we all can see the lies, and many seek truth. The web plays an important platform in the never ending quest for the truth.
The 34 senate republicans and the 91 house republicans and Dubya signing into law TARP is what helps the GOP.
Let's hope the internet isn't just another golden opportunity the GOP squanders.
The internet,…..merely delivers the message,… the important thing is,….
the content of the message,… and that is formulated not on twitter, facebook, google, blog, etc,
it's our childrens' text books stupid.
Amen, CL.
"We are too busy paying bills, paying taxes, and driving the engine of capitalism."
Unfortunately, the taxes we pay are being used to further our Republic's demise. However, many of us will work harder, probably pay more taxes and refuse to give up the fight for our Constitution and liberty. We and our peers may be the most educated (emphasis on common sense) generation in some time. I believe our "demise" has been grossly overestimated by the progressives. God Bless America.
How about unemployment benefits extension? Did they vote for that as well Mr. Knoxs?
100% kick the sociaIists off of the college campuses!
The internet is where most people get their news now days…can't depend on the television to give you every story….it's OUR responsibility to find the truth when it is put out there!! Thank you, Andrew for being such a patriot!
Guess who one of the people to try to muzzle the internet? Sen Olympia Snowe that is who. If you are keen on keeping the internet free and unregulated head over here at vote for the issue to be included in Contract from America.
Fascinating insight. I'm not a huge fan of 4chan simply for the NSFW elements but their rallying power & organizational ability is unmatched in the modern information culture. Further, although some call them anarchic, I see them more as a backlash of not just political-correctness but also of the Nanny State as a whole. Young people-both teens & 20-somethings, have grown up in a polarized world. We can be either modern & by extension, progressive politically or we can be conservative hicks.
More & more young people are seeing the irony in demanding equality and respect for all, then tearing apart anyone who doesn't agree with you or kowtow to those who disrespect others. Many older adults decry the rise of 'snarky' young adult culture, when in fact this is a reaction against the dominant culture as surely as Soviet 'jokes' were jabs at the Party. 4chan-ers & netziens as a subculture HATE being told to be how or when to behave. Having been bombarded with the politics of innocuousness, young people are seeking a new edge. Something that allows them to have a voice.
If the conservative movement can figure out how to appeal to this anti-conformity mindset and these young people searching for an identity without internalizing the poisonous elements of the culture than does lead to bullying and real abuse, we would be in the strongest position we have ever been in. And I think it's possible.
As we are seeing in the current political climate, there is far more room in the Conservative tent than there is in the Progressive and we have become, ironically, counter-cultural and anti-establishment in a way no party has been for decades. Maybe if the Democratic Part had not disavowed American culture this would not be a possibility but they did & it is.
Further, I'm sure it is only a matter of time before someone shows up pointing out what a "charmer" Ron Paul is and exactly how savage 4chan culture can be, questioning whether there is enough of value for us to want to reach out. To them I say, we do not seek to internalize all elements of this culture, just those that are in line with Conservative values. If we do so, we will be seen, not as hypocrites like the MSM and Democratic attack machine, but as a legitimate option for those who seek to have a voice despite the controversy that voice might cause.
We're gettin' tired of hearing the same old Johnny meme. Got any new material, Johnny? +Hanzo+
Uhh, johnny, the gun confiscation, I believe, was a local enforcement issue, correct?Like I asked before, got any new material? I sure hope so. ;^) +Hanzo+
Wow, replying to your own comments now, are we? Just come up with some new, thought provoking material and we'll play again.Thought provoking?Did I really state that? Ha ha, my bad.;^) +Hanzo+
Is Johnny bi-polar or retarded? I never know what to call behavior like his.
*YAWN* Zzzzzzzz. +You know who+
JohnnySlox goes to the only response left in the dimwitted leftist arsenal: Blame Booooosh! LOL.
The internet has little to do with the failings of the GOP. The problem with the GOP are the shysters, hucksters, progressives, and out and out fraudulent and fake so-called "republican" members. No, the lower case "r" in republican is not a mistake. If the GOP doesn't purge itself of these buffoons then it may as well just close up shop, and declare itself dead. I don't think they have any idea at all as to how many people they pizzed off, and how many others like me switched to either Libertarian or unaffiliated. I don't think they'll ever get it either. I hope they do, but I'm not betting my next paycheck on it.
Funny.
Everyone comes by and gives you a thumbs down.
I enjoy your sense of humor. I agree with you on this particular post:
"The 34 senate republicans and the 91 house republicans and Dubya signing into law TARP is what helps the GOP"
You are right, it is the 34 Senate Republicans and the 91 House Republicans and Dubya signing TARP is what helps the GOP. It will help them right out of office in 2010 and 2012.
We have a long memory on this one…………
I am from the *chan-o-sphere. (note my name is anonymous). I used to go to 4chan, then I found other *chans and I don't go there much anymore. By the way the author broke rules 1 and 2 of the internet, 1. Do not talk about /b/, 2. Do NOT talk about /b/.
Stunted.
If they lock us up who will pay the bills?
Bar codes?
Randy, guten Tag. Sind Sie Stiefel schön anzuschauen? Warum bist du, Israel anzugreifen? Ist es, weil Sie ein One Trick Pony oder ist es, weil du ein Nazi ist? So oder so, du bist ein Idiot, nicht wahr?
Seig heil eh Randy? Sieg Heil!
Thanks Andrew, conservatives are in the game!
Unless some unknown comes from out-of-nowhere…I will take the Republicans over Democrats any day. Not crazy about either one, but it may take time to find a true conservative base!
He's all the above, with that broken record quality thrown in for good measure. +Hanzo+
Were you r a p e d by a gerbil as a youth?
Funny. Remember when they said "smoking will stunt your growth"? I think John Boys parents forgot to tell him, but if they did, it was on purpose. However, he is a mental midget.
ohnny, you should "run" and keep your family's version of "Deliverance" alive.
"Squeal like a pig Johnny"
"Ya sir boss, Soooeey! SOOOEEEY!"
"Good. Say Johnny, has anybody ever told you – uh, you have a purdy mouth?"
You are 100% correct Hanzo and Mayor Ray Nagin was smacked down in the supreme court for violating peoples civil rights because of it!
Sadly the ruling was based on the 4th and not the 2nd amendment but that too is about to be corrected!
"the idea that conservatism cannot capture the internet is not at all accurate."
I am hoping that the Internet is an entity that cannot be captured. What worries me is that ideas and points of view would be suppressed. Put it all out there and let the reader decide.
Well i hope we can apply these rules to how we conduct ourselves on this website – ignoring trolls and not emboldening them by patting ourselves on the back with the exact reaction they seek!
I think there breathes through most Americans a desire to be free. Sometimes we choose the idea of safety over our freedom, to our later regret. We are learning, a crisis anymore raises red flags, it usually means the left if reaching for more power and they need a crisis to bring it about. The current "health" crisis is one example. The real problem with health care is it could be fixed with a bill a fraction of the size of the one they are trying to force on us, but it lays the groundwork for the progressive agenda. We know that, see through it, yet, it may become law. It will be difficult to ever remove, but not impossible.
America, we lost the press, lost the schools, lost congress, and the presidency, it is not going to be easy to get the America of our constitution and of our founding Fathers back, but we are making great strides on the press thanks to sites like this one. Congress we could take back in 2-4 years. Schools will take longer as the teachers unions are strong leftists. The presidency?…hopefully we have only 3 years left.
I'm coming to that conclusion myself…
I think it was consensual.
Yep – change it from useless and self-serving to representing the people.
"Deliverance" at its best.
”All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.” – Thomas Jefferson
Mark,
We will not remain silent. We strongly dislike our government. We love our Constitution and cherish our freedom. Tell us what is on your mind. You are among friends.
If your wife cheated on you, would you be more angry at your wife or the guy she cheated with, or at both?
I think one just has to look at the manner in which Scott Brown ran his campaign. Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube were key, but, he took it one step further in live streaming campaign stops. Whoever ran his campaign network should be a key player at the RNC.
How bout a Rudy McRomney type candidate? More big government nonsense or a chosen one?
No Apologies, or i'm going to be sorry?
Shhh…the Johnnys does not likes teh confusion…its fustrations will mount…
If your male lover murdered your wife, would you blame it on Bush or Obama?
Shouldn't you be stalking some campers?
teh johnnys…has a confusions…
He's "replying" to the voices in his head.
There's one voice, Johnny calls him "Elmo", and Elmo says over and over and over…"Johnny, stalk the canoe people – stalk the canoe people – stalk the canoe people…."
How about the Prescription Drugs program, the Republicans just said ah hell, we will borrow some money from China to pay for it, and then tax the worker minions to pay for the wealth transfer.
Nah, you read the article about the science czar. We'll all be fitted with shiney new microchips so we can be tracked like cattle.
It was also partially federal agents as well. It was not 100% local effort.
I track my cattle ahorseback. I'm sure though they'll have US all bent over to receive a fax though………
Flag down, move on…
THIS IS WHAT HELPS THE GOP
Excerpts taken from a recent Republican Fundraising Presentation
Small Donors motivations are "FEAR" and "REACTIONARY" Judging by the posts on this website they are correct.
Major Donors concentrate on "EGO DRIVEN" and "PEER TO PEER PRESSURE"
They are sycophants, just flag them down and move on because they are completely delusionally attached to their twisted plantation masters…
Just do what works best, don't give them your time…
It depends if my wfe cheated with just any old man, or my best friend.
In the first case, I'd shoot them both.
In the second case, I'd shoot my wife.
It's hard to replace a best friend………..
Covering up the USS Liberty attack helps the GOP.
http://eclipptv.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=10625
From the recent Republican fundraising documents small donors are motivated by "fear" and are "reactionary".
Enough said.
And what are Dem voters motivated by?
The current liberal/progressive movement is a giant contradiction, admonishing everyone to "question assumptions" and "challenge authority" – but the reality is that they are the new authority, and see themselves as unassailable. Just look at how Obama stares daggers at anyone audacious enough to question HIS authority. The preaching and haranguing that goes on in the environmentalist movement in particular is so overbearing, it puts overzealous Christians to shame, and any teen rebel worth his or her salt isn't going to tolerate it. Rebels, you've found your cause.

He's clearly a lost soul…
Are you still talking to yourself Johnny-Walker Knox?
"free money" and "Obama – he gonna pay my house and Gas!" (tears of joy!)
All in in all, it was all just bricks in the wall…
I agree with you on that one, I'm just learning this internet thing!! I've only been online for a few months!!
Clueless on how most of it works!!
Good thing I helped a computer whiz move, he helps me figure it out!!
I always used my hands and brain to earn my living!!
I sure am glad I was informed about this site though, thanks to Beck for that!!!!
Thanks to AB also for his insight!!! And this site!!!!
Oswald was a Marxist and did it. He was one of their own. Oliver Stone would still like to insist it was a conspiracy of righties — so sorry, that pig still won't fly.
Robert Kennedy was killed by a disaffected Palestinian. Again, one of their own. Code pink and Bill Ayers was just over there last month demonstrating against Israel with Hamas in Palestine.
.
We now know that Ahmadenijad of Iran says he is also a 9-11 Truther, just Obama's Van Jones — perfect.
Democrats lie about EVERYTHING to give the false sense of inevitability about their authority for leadership. Of course Republicans and conservatives should own the internet! To wit:
Despite claims by dems, Republicans earn 60% more college degrees than dems, and this has been true every year since records were started, 1955. it's not even close! And, It's not even counter intuitive, it's obvious – that's why democrats need free stuff from the government!
Their constituents are blue collar union members and undereducated minorities that make up the bulk of the HS drop out pool. If we don't own the internet we have no excuse!
.
Do I hear banjo's in the background? ;^) +Hanzo+
SIX out of TEN of the 9/11 Commissioners believe the official story is not the real one! Most Americans do, too! LOL! Truth is gonna win. Neocon fascists are gonna lose.

Vlad, you're right about the R's…………this old gray haired crony stuffed aristocracy will deny
our existence as long as they can. I often wonder if it occurs to the old fools that while they're
doing an interview with MSM, & I now include Fox in that disparaging terminology, that I am
screaming crude abusive language at them & throwing nerf objects at my tv. How can they
look in the mirror to comb their hair?
Thanks to the author for a tour of the darkest netherworlds of the internet. This make sense in a very basic way. Young chimps do not wake up one day and kick the pack leaders butt and start having sex with all the females. It is a slow process. A group of young turks will sense vulnurability in the boss. They will openly taunt him and run away, essentially mocking him. They will wear him down and erode his confidence. The toughest young turk will eventually kick his butt and take over. Likewise mocking and taunting are effective tools for keeping subordiates in line.
Nevertheless, you should get outside and play with real kids a little bit more.
I certainly am for ignoring the trolls & 'talking points' posters. I call them 10 liners. My first encounter
with them was after R Paul won the straw poll at C-Pac. My head was spinning. They were obviously
young, well educated, under experienced folks regurgitating blather from their debating class. They
will NOT support the Republican Party. They are too idealistic to compromise their conservative values.

You've got that right Rita. The first time I found the (real) internet, was about 96. It was still in it's infancy, and is barely adolescent now, but, I believe the net is going to do what no government in history was/is able to do.
"We the people" this concept was started here in America, and in the beginning, was mostly word of mouth. Now, with the internet, most of the world can benefit from this concept, because most of the world want's the same things you and I want. "and the net shall lead them"
Hey Cowboy, if that kind of chit starts to raise it's ugly head, expect a lot of visitors down in Texas, how ironic, we play out our last stand at the Alamo!

Yes, cornpone but they will, and do debate, and we all know that in the debate of ideas, and ideals, conservatism will prevail. The best part of this (net thingy), as one so aptly put it, is that the concept of "we the people" can be heard, uncensored, around the world, to all men.
just think of what Patrick Henry would say to the current congress?

Another unformed ranter.
Net Neutrality is intended to get a congressional law to STOP the FCC from allowing the ISPs to filter traffic and give preferential pricing and preferential treatment to data traffic based on where you go or what you are doing.
This is one the Lefty's seem to have gotten right and too many on this blog are reflexively against due solely to the knee-jerk response of "If Obama's for it, I'm ag'in it".
Please do some research (ignore the paid studies and propaganda of the Telcos and Cablecos that are 'only' trying to 'manage' their own 'private' networks without 'government interference'). They will claim that because the NN law would prevent them from charging preferential (tiered) prices and from filtering your internet traffice, the government is out to controll *all* networks. They would have you believe that NN is intented to be progressive and would allow government to tax emails. Question: If the NN bill says that traffic is not allowed to be prioritized, identified, segregated, etc – how would the government identify email (or any other type of traffic) in order to tax it ?
To your point, since NN is intended to PREVENT companies (Telcos & Cablecos) from tracking connections and censoring access to the internet, just how would NN promote the censoring you ascribe to it ?
Wait, what? You’re using 4chan as proof that the GOP is re-surging?
I suggest you find another example; that web site is one of the worst things to use on a political standpoint.
Also, lurk moar.
As I've noted before on some other topic, the anti-establishment of the 60's and 70's has become the establishment. As you sow, so shall you reap. True power to the people!
Thank you Cornpone. Well stated. If taken to the next step, is it reasonable to think the Tea Party Movement can/should 'join' the GOP without giving up its core principles ? As I see it now, the TPM almost *HAS* to become a 3rd party because the GOP is too thoroughly infested with Progressives.
Look at that last election (McCain – progressive liberal, Mitt Romney – as Governor of Mass, he ushered in Romney-Care that is driving the state broke and continues to brag about it's 'success', Huckabee – Nice guy – too willing to compromise with Liberals in my opinion – not enough cajones to just say 'no', and NY Mayor Rudi Juliani (sp?) – seems like a true conservative). Out of the batch they dropped out in the reverse order I listed them. Each time the most conservative candidate dropped out, I had to re-think my choice. By the time I got to vote for one of them (I'm registered independent), I could choose between McCain & Obama. I'm from Illinois – I voted for McCain & got Obama.
I'm sick of this result that occurs time and time again because the national GOP party can only select 'liberal Republicans' to office because they are fascinated by the 'center' and have abandoned their right-wing base. It's time to offer a Tea Pary Candidate to the country as a true alternative in 2012.
