Tea Party Takes On Political Corruption and Big Labor In California
by Marc Harris“…California remains one of the best places in the world to start a successful small business. All you have to do is start with a successful large business”
US Rep. Tom McClintock; (R) Rocklin (CA)
This week, the ordinary American citizens known as Tea Party Patriots— the pesky nemesis of power-drunk, spendthrift politicians—have laid down a gauntlet, building on the momentum of the protests in towns all across America as well as the 1+ million Tea Partiers who took part in rallies across the country on September 12th.

Making the transition from single-event political protest rallies to a sustained political activism campaign, the Tea Party Patriots have filed an initiative to appear on the November 2010 ballot in California. The initiative is the first official act within the true grass roots’ political activism platform we’ve titled “The Citizen Power Campaign”.
What is the first target the Tea Party Patriots’ ‘Citizen Power Campaign?’
The heart of the political machine that is bankrupting the once Golden State: politicians extracting money from taxpayers to increase the size of government and the recipients of this largesse, the public sector union bosses rewarding these politicians with generous campaign funds. This is a rigged game where public sector union bosses amass hundreds of millions of dollars each year in political war chests to finance candidates and liberal causes that neither the rank-and-file union member not the public at large would otherwise support. It has created a situation where no politician, Republican or Democrat, can stand up to the enormous power and influence that taxpayer money is being used for—often against the best interests of the taxpayers!
The Tea Party ballot initiative will create a constitutional amendment making it illegal for the State of California to forcibly extract monies from public employees to give to unions for political activities.
Says Mark Meckler, the California Coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots, and one of the initiative’s five Proponents, “It’s time to unplug the machine, and make liberal politicians have to pursue campaign funds the same way everyone else does: make your case to the people, and convince them to write a check!”
Of the dire circumstances California is facing, Chicago columnist Warner Todd Huston noted “[W]e have a bankrupt state trying to stay alive by cutting the costs of government…Certainly these sorts of cuts are common in real life; that where business is ruled by the reality of economic forces, but here we are in the fantasy world of government where only an upward projection of revenues, wages, and benefits is apparently possible despite any such silly thing as ‘reality’”.
That “fantasy world” exists solely because the union bosses live in a sort of parallel universe where they do not have to worry about the sources of the money they spend, nor the consequences of their largesse. In his soon-to-be released book “Plunder! How Public Employee Unions are Raiding Treasuries, Controlling Our Lives, and Bankrupting the Nation”, political journalist and author Steven Greenhut states “By its nature, government is not subject to the profit-and-loss test…of the free market…[and] is unique…in attaining its revenue via the coercion of taxpayers. Hence, government suffers no worries about losses or bankruptcy; it need serve no one but itself.”
This fight is crucial, as this machine has driven California to the brink of bankruptcy, with few alternatives remaining to continue funding the exorbitant union dues and pension benefits other than cutting many services and raising taxes—a historically guaranteed recipe for disaster.
The initiative will require collecting over 1.1 million petition signatures–over 700,000 of which have already been pledged by thousands of Tea Party activists across the state. This unprecedented early momentum will mark the first time in the nation’s history that all of the required petition signatures will be collected through a purely grass-roots’ effort; meaning no money required for professional signature gathering organizations.
And this Tea Party revolution is happening much to the consternation of the union bosses in Sacramento (as well as Washington), who had been believing its own arrogant presumptions of the public being either too stupid or too distracted making an honest living to even pay attention, let alone stand up to the plundering to taxpayer funds. Bankrupting the state through diverting billions into self-serving political activities is a gross violation of the public’s trust. The union bosses will soon find that the silent majority is silent no more.
Two of the leaders of the initiative effort are career public employees and former union members. These individuals, active Tea Party Patriots, are fed up with not only the corruption they witnessed within their own union, but also the expanding size and power of government, excessive taxes, and diminishing liberties.
Politics makes for strange bedfellows, indeed. Should be a very interesting fight to watch, to say the least.

Well, when you pursue economic theories and policies that don't work, and you bankrupt businesses left, right and center, and you cause unemployment to skyrocket… you leave all those people without jobs… and they now have time to collect signatures…
Karma.
Ha, TeaBagger Patsies? Sorry, I know that infuriates y'all. The poor Tea Partiers have been duped. It wasn't grassroots, it was Astroturf. If you are brave enough, look up the Republican lobbying group FreedomWorks headed by Dick Armey. They, along with the corporate 24/7 political operation known as Fox News, along with partisan talking heads on radio, hijacked the real Tea Party movement from Ron Paul. They are using you just like they used the evangelicals in 2004. If the Republican party actually manages to win control of something, they will drop you like a rotten potato. Then the Republican leadership will commence to growing big government, centralizing power, and spending your money just like the Democrats.
I nominated this Big Government blog over at the 2009 Weblogs Awards for "Best New Blog."
Go over and vote it up!

Hmmm – - – so simple, it may well work. The biggest problem will be getting the people that verify signatures to accept even legitimate ones. Those people are tied directly to the labor union bosses and politicians in a very close manner. In fact, in many cases they are the SAME people.
Oddly, once on the ballot, it will be impossible for the unions to run effective advertising against the measures. I suspect they would need to resort to running two sets of ad's. They will need to run some sort of extremist 'they are trying to steal from the childrens education' ad's for the pro side then the ad's claiming they have to stop this 'stealing from the childrens education' one they want to run against it. This is gonna cost em big time money wise.
(swap education with any other union activity they scam from)

Great article………….This Political circle jerk has been going on too long!
Remember to vote in 2010 and 2012
Better late than never? I concur – partly – with the first post. The behavior of Americans over the last several years has been remarkably poor. "Cash-outs" were not meant to pay for poker tournaments, lavish strippers, Jimmy Choo, a fourth house, (ad nauseum) without real proof that you could afford it. So it that regard America is facing a little karma.
But you give the 16 year olds the BMW keys, the AMEX and the beach house for the summer….hence the perpetrated depression. They knew what they were doing and GS knew fake AAA-repackages sold off to Iceland's pension fund would ultimately zero out balances all over the world – except for theirs of course.
And when Blankfein did tell a reporter for the Sunday Times of London that he’s just a banker “doing God’s work” could you feel the acid being thrown on the hearts and souls of America? And than the kick in the head as we grimace on the desert sand? Thought so.
So. “The Citizen Power Campaign.” I can't sign in California anymore – thank God (no not that one Lloyd) – but I'll have at least six signatures for you and I'll get them for you on my dime.
God Bless America! (NO LLOYD! NOT THAT ONE!) jeeez already

Wake Up California! Get your butts off the sofa and put down your lattie and start acting like you actual matter in your state. You should be able to get 4 or 5 milliion signatures. The government of california is killing your state and your families dream. They are ripe with corruption. Stop the corruption at least at one level . The government is working with the unions to steal you blind. Follow the money is right and then prosecution the *^&%^ to fullest extent of the law. They won't police themselves, they won't even admit its a conflict of interest when they give moeny to the unions to just have them turn around and give to the politains as campaign funds. What a crock! Sounds like bribery to me and thief of public funds and coersion and a maybe a dozen others crimes, just because Sacramento doesn't call it a crime doesn't mean it isn't. they are protecting their rearends and their careers by stealing tax dollars for uneithical purposes! Wake Up Califronia! yor bankrupt yet you can't layoff state emplyees and shrink the size of government? Bull hockey that's special interest in bed with lawmakers! Kick them all out and save your state! Wake up America!
Keep it up…I will "write a check." Americans, we must fix this system from the inside out. Any other way is a futile enterprise. Also, we will have to not only make signs and campaign; but put our "lives, liberties and fortunes" into this taking back of our heritage and country.

Could Doug Hoffman still pull out a win in the NY-23 race?
Public employee service unions are bankrupting federal, state and local governments all across the country. If all taxpayers suddenly died and dissapeared tomorrow these slugs would dig up the bodies and feed off the flesh and bones. They give cannabalism a bad name. If California taxpayers are successful in halting the growth of these unions, the rest of the country should follow their lead.
Look at this… LMAO !!! I wonder who n Congress will support this ??? hmmmmm , let me guess
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/11/12/acorn-...
They should go for broke and put "No Govt Workers May Unionize" on the ballot. That would be a revolutionary strike against the Statists.
Excellent chart! I have a similar-looking chart showing the "Evil Circle" of labor unions and Democrats in the California Legislature. You're forgetting that the Legislature also mandates union-only construction projects, which further feeds the money train and the "Evil Circle."
Download and read the following reports from the California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC). After Indian Gaming, the major money players in California are the state employee unions, the California teacher's union, and the California correction officer's union.

All-in-all, California has the best government that money can buy!
1000% agree !!!! We need to add this to the list of demands when voting for politcian…. We need to change the Constitution for this one !!!!
And it doesn't stop just in California. Here is a list of the top Heavy Hitters on political contributions, based on legally-required public disclosures.
http://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/list.php?order=A
At the left of the table, note to which party the money goes. Corporation AT&T is #1 on the list (so that's why my phone bill is so high) but both parties received a share.
Compare this with six out of the top 10 on the list (#2,#5,#7,#8,#9,#10) that are government employee unions or trade unions with 92% to 98% going to a single political party. You guess which.
Number 4 on the list is Goldman Sachs with 75% going to the same party in 2008. Why? Oh yeah, didn't the White House Chief of Staff used to work there? I'm sure that's just a complete coincidence.
And how can we forget, as reported in the Chicago Tribune, the Service Employees International Union (SEUI) brags that it spent $60 million electing themselves a United States President. This provides Andy Stern, head of the SEIU, with unprecedented access to the White House.

This has to be one of the best and most succinct summariy of the general problem with governments period, solve this problem and you solve all problems within the Republic (no lectures on why we are not please, I understand them all too well)
“By its nature, government is not subject to the profit-and-loss test…of the free market…[and] is unique…in attaining its revenue via the coercion of taxpayers. Hence, government suffers no worries about losses or bankruptcy; it need serve no one but itself.”
There is a federal law in place now, but soft money is a different matter, the unions dont care if they get caught, i would suggest people look at *National Right to Work Legal Defense* Trust me you will learn more about unions at there site than any other, as they are the ones who have defeated unions in the US supreme court. ACLU hates them with a passion, which tells me they are good people.

I wonder if this is the hope and change Obama was asking people to believe in? Works for me, LOL
I have often thought that government employees should be prohibited from voting in elections that directly affect their job status. For example, state employees could not vote in state elections, but could vote in municipal elections. Further, all public sector unions should be outlawed, and any right to strike eliminated.
This is the trade-off that someone should make if they choose to work in the public sector.

LOL. You just keep spreading that around. Seriously. The more you say it…the better it is for our side. Now go back home and tell everyone that those little tea partiers are no threat to our political dominance at all. Run along and spread the word. Bwahahahaha….
Nah, I don't think anyone outside of your little echo chamber is paying attention to angry white crowds who hold up hate-filled signs and don't even know what they're protesting against. I don't like the health care bill either, but I at least look at objective information to draw my conclusions, rather than drinking the Faux News/Rush Limbaugh koolaid.
Oh, and how do you feel about the CBO analysis that says the bill will reduce the deficit by $109 billion over ten years? Or will you cast some kind of label on them now that they don't agree with your preconceived delusion?

EXCELLENT!!!! Time to disconnect the unions from the spigot of money fed to them by the politicians in Sacramento, who then feed it right back. Time to break the cycle.
Um, news flash – this about California and a state iniative – has nothing to do w/ a National Party, or those boogiemen at Fox News.
You know, those old tactics of calling people names whom you disagree with only works on people that care what names you call them. And false "facts" only work with people that don't know the real facts. I think that you might have misread this crowd…. I'm just sayin'….
What hate-filled signs? I think you're confusing the Tea Partiers with the leftists who protested in Seattle and Pittsburgh. Those nutjobs, though few in number, were setting fire to cars and trying to destroy everything in sight. The Tea Partiers were a civilized crowd that even picked up their own garbage. And no hate-filled signs in sight.
BTW, Ron Paul is on the same side as the Repubs. Doesn't sound like you are, though. Sounds like since you can't silence the message, then destroy the messenger. Typical lefty lib tactics.
Reminds me of a joke I heard Branford Marsallis tell:

JPaye; Hate to break it to you, but you've sucked on the teet of your koolaid bearer a bit too long. The CBO estimate has been revised. And it is still a pipe dream. Just boggles the mind when the truth can smack someone square in the face, and they cry race when it happens. You my little one, have been duped. And you have no clue that it has happened.
The walls will come a tumbling down.
First, you're not sorry, and second, you've been reported. You won't be here long.
Next up, the Tea party folks are responsible for Doug Hoffman's near-win in NY-23. The Republican party is not happy with them; neither is chairman Michael Steele, and neither are most RINOs, who will lose their jobs in 2010. The Republicans aren't using the Tea Party activists by a long shot.
Your utter unfamiliarity with what you speak shows just how much you know. Then again, all trolls are ignorant cowards who use the internet as their megaphone.
I thought Hoffman had lost by only 2,300 votes, not 3,000. Anyway, thought he conceded too soon. It would be great if the results were overturned. I knew something fishy was going on when Acorn said a day in advance of the election that they were contesting the outcome. That meant that they wanted a vote total so they'd know how many ballots they had to manufacture behind closed doors to put Owens over the top.
Ooops, you just betrayed yourself, troll.
"angry white" and "hate-filled" (id est, racist), plus "don't even know…" (id est, stupid).

It's not for the Republican Party that we're working. In fact the Republican Party had better get on board with fiscal conservatism and limited government, fast, or they will get dumped right along with the Dems. They are on very thin ice since Newt's "Contract With America", a nice little set of promises of which they delivered about 10%. And Newt supporting Scozzafava helped crystallize the problem of RINOs for all of us.
There's another ballot initiative starting up here in CA, to make the legislature a part-time job. The Citizen Legislature Project (http://www.reformcal.com) aims to cut them to half time and half pay. While that won't do anything to reduce their appetite for donations – if anything it might increase that a bit – it will reduce the amount of time they have to enact insane bills as they have been doing for the past 30 years.
A nice 2-term limit might help too. Goooh.com is on that case for the federal legislature.

Someone from another post referred me to a site called http://www.Dearpolitician.org to write my politicians. The site is really cool in the fact that it automates everything and you can write your President, Vice President, Senators, and Congressman. The really interesting parts are that you can write complete Senate and Congressional committees. After you write what you want to say in the body of the template, you can print them off and mail them yourself or you can have Dearpolitician.org fax them to their offices instantly for FREE. If you want your letters delivered today, go to that site! Just passing along a cool site!
CBO projects $109 billion reduction in deficit ? This is like reducing a mountain by 1 pebble…. Wait 'til Obama starts mugging Liberals (You included) along with the rest of us.
Has anyone requested a type of P/L Statement from any State Government so citizens can see how much revenue is recieved and from what sources and what the expenditures are such as payroll, benefits for all State workers. I want to see "actual figures" and not the Usual "Pie Chart". Any rising journalists out there ?
There are PLENTY of workers out there willing to take thier jobs…..
A similar unholy alliance of Democratic Party–ACORN–Working Family Party–Data and Field Services– is circumventing New York state election and local campaign finance laws as well as raising taxes at the State level.

Last night I attended a New York Young Republican Club (http://www.nycyr.org/) meeting where I heard from Councilman-elect Dan Halloran of NYC District 19 that WFP was out in force seeking to commit voter fraud. One common tactic was attempting to use WFT Interpretors (rather than NYC Board of Elections-certified Interpretors) to manipulate non-English speaking voters to vote Democrat. Another tactic was having WFP operatives impersonate legitimate voters, which is easily done since NYS does not require any proof of ID to vote. Yet another tactic was distributing a bogus anti-Halloran letter reputedly from the local Roman Catholic priest (apparently Halloran is a Roman Catholic). Whole groups of WFP "operatives" were bussed in to this predominantly Asian district in Flushing, Queens. Halloran reported that the Democrats' lack of ethics and general sleaze was on view for all to see. I certainly hope so.
“But a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.”

stop brinking the kool aid
So, according to your so-called "reasoning", because Freedom Works (or any other conservative group) applauds and supports the Tea Party Patriots' Citizen Power Campaign, that is "proof" that the movement is now "hijacked" by the GOP, and we are all slaves to its evi, big-governmentl agendas? Well, then we can all assume that because the Demoncrats (no, I didn't misspell it) accepts money and vocal support from NAMBLA, that all liberals, including you, are pedophiles, right?
The GOP, Fox News, and conservative talk radio have not "hijacked" the Tea Party movement, they are merely observing and reporting on it and, yes, supporting its values. The difference is that the Tea Party movement is happening because thinking, informed conservatives have objectively challenged the GOP, unlike you and all kool-aid drinking liberals, who are incapable of any critical analysis of the left. It is not we who are "patsies" but you–or at least most liberals, as it is clear you are a deliberate agit-prop agent; which makes you a very disgusting human being–no principles, just deception and lies for a covert agenda. The best remedy to the "big lie" is the even greater "big truth".
You have a gift. Great way to express profound truths, and very funny! May I quote you in future blogs? In fact, the Citizens Power Campaign is a platform the Tea Party Patriots are going to apply nationwide in both the electoral process as well as the courts, as we are attracting thousands of conservatives in the law profession who want to volunteer their time and resources to use the courts the way the left has. Liberal judges beware! There are 19 other states that allow the ballot initiative process by it citizens, and we are creating a blueprint for those states in the 2012 elections.

There is NO sincere desire to fix any perceived public problems, only the desire to identify them (or deliberately CREATE them) in order to create the mechanism to skim the money.
