Military ‘Intelligence?’
by Monica CrowleyOver the past decade or so, there’s been a movement in our schools to make every kid a winner. In gym class, in sports events, in spelling bees, in tests of every kind, every child was often given an award or citation to cushion their fragile self-esteem. Competition was eliminated and “winning” was downgraded to a mere technicality. If you came in second, you still won! No losers here, kids. You’re all equally mediocre.
This politically correct virus has now spread dangerously into the U.S. military. The armed forces exist for this reason: if called upon, to kill the enemy. The military also exists to deter the enemy so that lethal force is not needed. But if necessary, our troops are trained and ready to wipe out our enemies before they can wipe us out.
Now, thanks to same Pentagon social engineers who brought us the ideas of gays serving openly in the military and women on submarines, the military is considering a “courageous restraint” award. What on God’s green earth is THAT, you ask? Good question. Apparently, you will now be able to win a medal for “holding your fire” and avoiding civilian casualties. Implicit in this utter ridiculousness is that our troops do not NOW show “courageous restraint,” do not NOW “hold their fire” until absolutely necessary, and do not NOW avoid civilian casualties. This is an insult to the fine and selfless men and women in uniform who give up their lives—in some cases,
literally—to prosecute a war and defend the American people.
Military awards are bestowed for uncommon valor in combat. They should not be given for doing what the good and decent American armed forces are trained to do anyway: use force judiciously.
This is the worst and most dangerous example of political correctness that I’ve seen in a long time. It could work to get our troops—and ultimately us—killed. Consider that most of our current enemies ARE civilians: terrorists who do not wear the uniform of any nation. Holding out an award to our troops for “holding their fire” could get them slaughtered.
Call me old-fashioned, but I’d like our military to stand ready to fight on our behalf, and yes, use lethal force when necessary. God bless them for doing it so the rest of us can live in freedom and relative security. But there should only be outrage for the crusaders of political correctness who
have infiltrated our fighting forces with a lollipop award for abiding by the liberal platitude that “violence is never the answer.”
Sometimes the violence comes to you, and you have no choice but to use violence to stop it.
The battleground is a life-and-death, hell-on-earth, kill-or-be-killed, no-room-for-error place. Leave the playground awards at the playground.

I was discussing this with my husband today and we came up with the same conclusion. I don't think this award will be well received amongst the ranks. Even worse is the fear that it will be an award most likely earned posthumously.

Why do you hate our military?
It's because Obama loves a good "corpse-man."
He'd rather put a "Courageous Restraint" medal on a dead soldier than a medal of Valor on a live one.
America has been in "Homer Simpson World" for the past 17 months in which everything is upsidedown, backasswards and nothing makes any sense. We have a madman in the oval office.
Each day we hear about something that makes me say, well we can't top that. And each day I'm wrong. I agree with Timshappywife, this will put our troops in harm's way and will, soon enough, be given posthumously. Shame.
This is an affront military! Send them in harm's way and give them a medal for NOT firing at the enemy!!?? WTF!!??
My son is a US Marine currently on the ground in Helmand province and I hope he never comes close to winning this ridiculous medal.

This ship sailed long ago, but we are going to correct is course in short order. This "commander in chief" will be fired by "We the People" in 2012. Obama has lost his anti-war, anti-american base (the same way LBJ did) and they will stay home or vote for Mitch Daniels or who ever we put up. Always remember the men and women of the US Military always do the right thing, always.

Funny, you acknowledge what I have said all along – we are targeting civilians. Our military is meant for defense of this country. The only country threatening us is Mexico and they are invading at will. Yet we are fighting wars for ISRAEL'S benefit in the Middle East while paying tribute payments to Israel. Does Israel run our government? Nearly openly they do, it seems.
BTW, don't pretend you are opposed to all this – CFR – the organization you are a part of – supports the dissolving of borders and non-stop war to advance their agenda – their primary goal is that of destroying America to the point it is on par with other nations (to help with globalism).

Monica – the National Defense Service Medal is a blanket campaign metal given to all in the service during a national emergency. This medal has the colors blue, red, and yellow. My fellow service members commonly joked that blue was for the oceans that were not crossed, red was for the blood that was not shed, and yellow was the reason why. Many service members just don't wear it. This "Courageous Restraint" medal will never be accepted by service members. I'm glad I am retired.
I’d like to believe that the average military man/woman will look at this ridiculous piece of BS award as a joke and if there is actually a Soldier/Marine/Navy/Air Force that receives it, will likely get f**ked with by his/her piers. NO military personnel will accept something like this in a humbled manner.
The ultimate “reward” for any service personnel is “survival”, the ability to defend another day. And a bit of respect and appreciation from the citizens of their own country would certainly be welcomed as well. God Bless America, out Troops and Their Families!

If the politicians would get out of the way and let the military do what they were trained to do, we would have been done in Afghanistan and Iraq a long time ago.
As a combat vet, there is only one rule. Do what we do best: do unto them before they can do unto you. When are the idiots in this country going to realize that there are no rules in war but survival of the best. A war can not be managed from 7,000 miles away. It must be managed on the spot where lead poisoning is a common malady. Overwhelming force is the answer, and no stupid award for not wasting the enemy is worthy of of consideration when in the $**t.

Most of our troops would turn down the award – they exercise restraint when it is justified and whenever they can.
It's the ones who'd accept it – who think "I could'a wasted that kid but didn't, they should honor me" – that I'd be most worried about.

I have to agree with other posters. Most military infrantrymen/women generally turn into type A personalities when deployed with their teams. Getting something like that may help thier professional carreer but can be guarnateed that at team-level you would get one hell of a ribbing. Our men adn women are the best I have no quams thinking that this won't affect their performance, readiness or killer instinct when push comes to shove.

I'm sorry, as a former member of the military I knid of see this as a non-issue. The troops on the ground are not going to do anything that jeapordizes the safety of themselves, their fellow soldiers/marines OR any non-combatants. This medal means nothing, it's just posturing from the lefty administration to show that they CARE.
