Planned Parenthood CEO’s Mammogram Claims Are False

The campaign included TV, print, radio and online ad buys, a big pink bus rolling
across the country, and numerous appearances and opinion pieces by Planned Parenthood spokespersons and supporters (including this gem by PP vice-president of communications Stuart Schear.
Planned Parenthood has been insisting that they provide invaluable health services to “millions” of America women.
Just a few weeks ago, on national television, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards said thisabout Rep. Mike Pence’s amendment to defund Planned Parenthood:
“If this bill ever becomes law, millions of women in this country are gonna lose their health care access–not to abortion services–to basic family planning, you
know, mammograms.”
Yet this is blatantly false.
We got a tip from former Planned Parenthood director, Abby Johnson, that Planned Parenthood does not provide any mammogram services. Just to be sure, our investigative team called up 30 Planned Parenthood
clinics in many major metropolitan areas. Every single one of the clinics told our actor that no, they do not provide mammograms. “We don’t provide those services whatsoever,” one staffer in Arizona said.
Another in Wisconsin remarked, “We are just a surgical center, we don’t really do health services.” In Overland Park, KS, at Planned Parenthood’s “Comprehensive Health Center,” they said, “We don’t
actually have a, um, mammogram machine, at our clinics.”
We called 27 states total. In none of those states does Planned Parenthood provide mammograms.
We challenge Planned Parenthood to provide evidence that they provide mammograms to “millions of American women”–or to any at all.
Almost everyone has a loved one affected by cancer. It is reprehensible to play on the fears of women and their families with lies, in an attempt to extort more money from taxpayers.
Sadly, such deception and manipulation should not surprise us.
This is only the latest in Planned Parenthood’s abusive and deceptive activity. Planned Parenthood claims to provide “pregnancy options” to women, yet over 97% of their services to pregnant women are abortions. The corporation aborts 332,278 unborn boys and girls each year, gives false medical information and manipulative counseling to women, covers up the sexual abuse of young girls, and cooperates with the sexual trafficking and commercial exploitation of children.

Roe V. Wade decided when a fetus becomes a 'life'. So, they all believe it. Unfortunately, even if it was 'proven' that life begins at conception, I believe there would be those in favor of abortion anyway – Obama himself said he didn't want his daughters 'punished by a baby'. He didn't call it a fetus, but a baby. I had an ultrasound at around 8 weeks for my 5th child and it already showed a heartbeat!
Not to nitpick, but the link for "over 97% of services are abortions" actually shows the opposite. I'm not a fan of PP, and I'm definitely Pro-Life after years of being "agnostic" on the matter. (An Intro to Ethics / Philosophy class woke me up to the evils of moral relativism.) So I agree with the general thrust of the post, but the link simply shows PP claiming that 3% of services are for abortions and that 97% are for other things… including 830,000 "Breast Exams or Breast Care". I'm assuming that these aren't "mammagrams", and even if some of them are it would still be way less than the "millions" that PP's Cecile Richards claims.

Poor women and those in abject poverty need help. That's what Title X which is where PP derives it's funding and BTW was created by a Republican administration(Nixon) is for. It helps low-income and women in poverty get medical care and access to birth control. What Rose is really trying to do is eliminate access to contraception which is what the public funding goes for. Abortions are not covered by Title X and have to be paid for out of pocket.

I know this is anecdotal, but I have met several people who have worked in a PP clinic, or represented PP in a legal way. And without fell, they always proclaim their atheism, along with a hatred for the Christian Right. How about this simple concept, why should the state bother at all in the birth of the child. It should be just between the mother and doctor and no one else. Ralph, The left rely on names to fool the public into believing that what they are doing is related to the name. If they called it what it is, as you say "Abortion Clinic" they would be far less succesful at finding unhappy women with a fetus that they want killed. When one name is used up, they will rename it something else to disguise its true nature.

Hi, nice to meet you. But what happened to that guy who posted a while ago about being against authoritarian institutions, especially the government? I guess he's out gleefully buying health insurance, as mandated by the ever-benevolent government.
If I'm mandated by the government to buy something for my body (i.e. health insurance), then the government is regulating what I do with my body. My body is no longer my own. I find it ironic that the same people who demand that the government stay out of their wombs don't mind it poking its nose into every other part of their body.

Isn't the idea behind articles like this to inform people who are on the fence, and to enlighten them to the facts behind a situation?
I don't believe in my heart that the writer of this intended it to come off this way, but;

This statement states facts (in the form of information that can definitively be supported as right and wrong), but doesn't provide the backing for those facts in the body of the text. There may be links posted, or I might be able to find that information, but the way that is perceived by a neutral reader, is that the right winged writer of the article is trying to exaggerate, and to use fear to turn the reader towards their point of view, and most people will write it off as that, and not consider the message.
I could be wrong in this conclusion, but it boils down to this (and to the writer of this article, you're not the only one that does it, it's everywhere, and our community needs to do a better job of cleaning our act up)…
Either we're not considering our audience, or writing like this is designed to "preach to the choir", and I'll spare you the internet euphemism for this, for it is fairly vulgar, but please… if we want to further our cause and prevent the left from destroying our country, please please please try harder to avoid statements like this.

And the more unplanned pregnancies there are, the more money Planned Parenthood gets. So how much incentive to provide and encourage contraception? Probably not, considering all the money it takes in from abortions.
Why call around to each Planned Parenthood? That is a lot of work. All you need to do is google "Planned Parenthood" and "mammogram" or things like that, and you can find out a great deal.

For 2009, abortion services counted for 3% of the total. The majority is taken up with contraception, STD testing and cancer screening.

How many of the posters here know anything about referrals? I work in the medical billing industry, specifically in radiology services, and we receive tons of claims from women who are a part of various mammogram clinic programs and what not, that receive free yearly screenings. The thing is, many of these women don't have the services performed by the physician that performs the initial examination, they are REFERRED to a radiologist (often time it's own practice). So, it must be that every single one of you has a physician with their own radiology equipment, and you must think it's the norm, but it's not. The truth is, these machines are EXTREMELY expensive to purchase and operate, and often cause the office to lose significant amounts of money, only to them have the results referred to a radiologist off site to be interpreted BY LAW.
Planned Parenthood does offer general medical services (no more or less than what a free clinic offers), so to say otherwise, as is being hinted at in this article, is a blatant lie and yellow journalism at it's worst.
