So then, why exactly did ACORN fire the employees if they did nothing wrong? Why did they say they were going to conduct a thorough internal review if they did nothing wrong? If those employees didn't do what the tape suggested they did, shouldn't they be commeding the employees? Wouldn't they be defending the employees and the organization as a whole in that regard? They are acting as if the tape WAS NOT edited and that they are just as guilty as they appear to be on those tapes. Why, because they are guilty and the tape WAS NOT edited.

I believe that the Saul Alinsky reference is in reference to the use of Alinsky's tactics by the right against the left, although obviously only those that are not inherently evil, which does narrow the pickings down a bit. The good news is that the left can (and will) continue to use them all.

I didn't realize that the black women in question were particularly uneducated or unintelligent. I guess that's because I've had much broader exposure to blacks in the world outside of academia than the author. When I was first exposed to blacks as a child, I mistook their accents, vocabulary and mannerisms for a lack of intellect. Over the years, I learned the truth of it. Regional and racial differences are not a reliable indication of capability, although they are often assumed to be, especially by northern urbanites. Of course it doesn't help that movies faithfully reinforce these prejudicial stereotypes.

My advise to the author is to get out and meet people in the real world, and to resist the urge to assume things about them until she knows more about them than the oddities of their speech. Then perhaps she will realize that the women in the videos are quite smart enough to be culpable for their actions.

Take it from me- the hardest part about an 'elite' university is getting in. You can never flunk out, and have to try awfully hard not to graduate on time. (Thaqt goes for liberal arts. Some schools' engineering and hard science programs are quite rigorous)

For Ms Essig who, I couldn't help but notice, HAPPENS TO BE WHITE, the two black women on the Baltimore video must be 1. Poor, and 2. Uneducated. How arrogant an assumption. If Essig had even taken the time to actually listen to some of the recorded dialog, she'd have noticed that these ACORN employees seem to be pretty well versed on the law; certainly on how to get around it.
The pity here is that these low-level ACORN employees have been conveniently fired, while those who run the organization professed to be shocked, shocked that such a thing could occur in one of their offices. Each and every one of the string of ethical lapses recorded over the last several years is but a single anomaly, and couldn't possibly indicate systemic corruption.

Why, when I read Ms. Essig's comments, am I hearing "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!"

How to even begin to disassemble this bizarre argument by Laurie Essig? The ACORN workers were caught, on video, helping a couple obtain a home loan for use in a child sex business.

Laurie responds to this by saying, "…as you watch the video, it is clear that these women are trying to help, but also seriously disturbed by the behavior of these two white kids".

At what point do they seem disturbed? Throughout the video the ACORN employees are totally unaffected by the fact that what they are doing is illegal, not to mention morally reprehensible.

The coherent arguments in Laurie's post are at best dishonest. The remaining portion, along with her overall reasoning is less than coherent. If there is a conspiracy at work here on the part of biggovernment.com et al, it is only to allow an opposition post of this caliber.

As a woman who believes people should be allowed to marry who they choose, and who believes people should be able to choose whether or not to have a baby, as long as they don't expect me to pay for it… I'm going to have to say this opinion is not on the proper side of the argument.

Was it entrapment? possibly… did the guy tell us so in the opening of his story? yes… do I care? no. If you bait a person to help you break the law, they can decline. Regardless of what they look like. I've seen Ross Perot Sr. shopping at Men's Warehouse, and regardless of whether you think he "looks" educated or not (walking around in jeans and a t-shirt), Essiq seemingly did nothing but judge based on looks. I'm sorry that the people that worked at these ACORN offices weren't white (or that the "pimp" and "prostitute" weren't black)… it would have taken race 100% out of the equation.
