Needed: An English-Democratic Party Dictionary?
by Lurita DoanThis past week in Washington, DC has seen the GOP actively engaged in discussions and strategizing about taking back the House of Representatives and taking back the Senate. But before the GOP, Tea Party, or anyone else, can take back the House or Senate, they will face a more difficult and important battle–taking back our language.

Democrats have made an art form of mis-speak, consistently showing only a passing familiarity with good, old Merriam-Webster. Think Kafka and Orwell, where words are elastic, and plain-speaking is all but abandoned.
Understanding what President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are saying is difficult; for, though the language may seem to be English, in reality, they speak a different language, the language of the Democrats in DC. To understand exactly what they are saying, Americans need an “English –Democratic Party Dictionary. Here is a sampler of some of the most important words and phrases that cause confusion:
- INVESTMENT: President Obama and Speaker Pelosi frequently talk about the need for “investments”. For example, ” President Obama recently identified a need to invest in American infrastructure (and education) What Mr. Obama and Nancy Pelosi really seem to mean when they talk about “investments” is that government needs to spend more. Democrats have learned from extensive polling that disguising calls for more government spending, and even greater national debt, are more palatable (to those that have not yet figured out the scam) if, they talk about spending as “investments”. As most Americans know, making an investment implies a return worthy of the risk. Investors always want their money back and a profit to boot. Fat chance of that! According to the Democrat-version, “investments” are just spending by another name. There will never be a return, and taxpayers putting their money are risk will never get their funds back, nor is there any chance of a decent return.
- WORKING MAN: A favorite chestnut of Democrats, which really means Union Worker. Lots of Democrats talk about being the Party of “the working man”, but what they are really saying is that we need to support Unions and Organized Labor. Other Americans, that actually work very hard in a thousand different industries, and especially entrepreneurs, and small business owners, are not ever considered to be “working men or women”. Sure they might work 90+ hours a week, to build their business, but that matters not at all. Democrats support, and honor, only the unionized employee as a “working man or woman. All other, hard working, Americans are an afterthought, and none merit much attention beyond how much more their taxes should be raised.
- ENTITLEMENTS v. RIGHTS: When Democrats speak of “rights” most people mistakenly assume that they are talking about constitutional rights, that are specifically enumerated in the Constitution, But, that is a big mistake, for Democrats, and Progressives, have so misused and bastardized the “rights” to portray their expansive vision of government ,and the many false promises of something for nothing. For example, “it’s my right to have cheap healthcare.” Nowhere in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights is healthcare identified as a “right“, nor is the concept even discussed. Progressives also point out that, “it’s every American’s right to have a decent standard of living.” Wrong again. What Americans have been promised in our Constitution is an equal opportunity to pursue their own dreams and pursue happiness free of excessive government control . Similarly, it is important to remember that Entitlement programs are not “rights” either.
- JOB CREATION: Democrats in government talk a lot about job creation and the urgent need for government to create more jobs. But, government does not create any jobs in the private sector, and the only jobs it does create are government jobs, that can only be funded and supported by additional taxes on those that do create jobs.
- SHOVEL READY: Remember this one? “Shovel Ready” projects were supposed to result in the immediate launch of any number of new construction projects, creating jobs across the country. But that was a myth; very few “shovel ready” projects ever existed. Instead, the vast majority of new construction projects were tied up in nightmarish, regulatory processes; scoring rules, prospectuses, approvals, assessments, FONSIs (Finding of No Significant Impact) and Permitting, are just a few of the obstacles that must be overcome before a project is “shovel ready.” Had President Obama really wanted to push infrastructure projects, he could have eliminated or reduced any or all of the many different bureaucratic hurdles that a building project must navigate. Instead, the President merely called for more money to be placed into the maw of a process that grinds too slowly and at great expense to taxpayers. There are all sorts of infrastructure projects that could be made “Shovel Ready”, but that would require dedicated leadership willing, and able, to curtail excessive bureaucratic reviews and focus more on the actual building of new infrastructure, versus a timid, rote adherence to an unsuccessful process that does not serve the nation.
- CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE: Critical infrastructure should be restricted to a very narrow definition– roads, bridges and buildings essential to continued or increased commerce of the nation. But Dems in Congress have, in the Stimulus, expanded the definition to include water parks and studies of the Harvest Marsh Mouse. According to this view, building new tennis courts, water parks, and stadium parking lots, (especially if they are targeted into their own districts) are all now labeled as “critical infrastructure”. What Dems in Congress cannot, and will not, ever do is to actually prioritize the nation’s needs, and have the courage and leadership to decide which projects would provide the greatest benefit to the nation as a whole. Instead, a “critical infrastructure” is defined as any building project, or any spending plan, that will bring federal funds to their home districts.
- SPENDING CUTS / CUT TO THE BONE: Washington is always talking about “cutting to the bone”, but that is a fiction. There is so much blubber in the budget that it’s been many a decade since Americans saw the “bones.” When Dems use the term SPENDING Cuts — as in “we must reduce federal spending”, what is really meant is: let’s cut the amount of the increase to the budget line item. Memo to Congress: cutting an increase is not a budget cut.
Our country used to be one where a man, or woman, was bound by their word, and their word was their bond in public and private transactions. We are so long gone past that because, now, in the 111th Congress, words only means whatever the speaker wants them to mean. Before we can solve a problem, we need to acknowledge the problem openly and with candor. When we lose our language, we lose the power to change by civil discourse. And, that bodes ill for all Americans.

Will this new Democrat dictionary explain what " is " is?
Truth – a pointless and irrelevant concept that impedes any significant Marxist progress.

"Our country used to be one where a man, or woman, was bound by their word, and their word was their bond in public and private transactions"
Wasn't that a novel concept? Quite archane.
The Democrats don't need a dictionary, they need a history lesson…!
Besides, does anyone even listen to Democrats any longer?
The dems are a coalition of parasites and fools. As Lincoln said "you can fool some people all the time", that is a critical voting block for the Democrats. An independent voter is defined as "you can fool some people some of the times". The parasite (gov-worker, fat-cats) voting class know democrats are liars but don't care because they are on the take. If you work in the private economy and vote democrat you are a fool.
What we need are people (media and politicians) to have the
courage to call a LIE a LIE!!
This Progressive dictionary will define liberty as the government has the liberty to tell you what you can and can't do. It will define healthcare as the care the government decides to provide to whom and when. Gun rights as when the government can use guns against the people. Illegal immigration as the people that took the land from the Indians and Mexicans as illegal. Free speech as big government can speak freely to its peasants. Right to work states as you have the right to work for free but if you want to get paid you must be in a union. This is one book that I hope never gets published.
The Glenn Beck University advanced studies and graduate program is just what we need for the exposure of fraud and deception by the Leftist Progressives. Kind of like a doctoral studies program to recognize the cancerous disease of Progressivism.
Professor Beck’s CPAC speech was the perfect exposure of the cancer of the Left.
The progs are adept at the use of the language, however. Notice the NYT the other day had this headline, "CPAC and GOP Plot to Retake Washington." Plot? Why not say, "plan?" It takes just as much ink and is far more accurate.
People like Joe Wilson.
Start by investing in the first AMERICAN English dictionary to understand language as our Founders used them. Every patriot needs a Webster's 1828 Dictionary on their shelf.

Yes, he would come to mind…I was a little disappointed that
he got pressured to apologize for being honest…Can you
imagine?….Where else would you have to apologize for
speaking the truth….It's unbelievable, isn't it?
There is no English-Democratic Party Dictionary.
That would only codify the lies they spread and put into concrete the terms they like to change to make their lies work.
A roll of USED toilet paper should suffice though.
Only in CONgress.
That tells US volumes, about THEM.
I think no politican should be allowed to use the words "middle class" without posting their own working definition of that phrase on file.
Uhh…….I did not have sex with that woman….. she was, ah….making an "investment" in "job creation" in a "shovel readyjob" supporting "critical infrastructure". I'd say that "cuts to the bone"
unfortunately, the majority of voters have no conception of how language can and is being used. they have been put to sleep by public education and the endless entertainment drug of television.
i've seen Newspeak in action for some time, and i cannot think of a way for opponent to successfully re-claim the language. Off to take my Prozac now!
The English language has been bastardized for a long time. People like to use words as interchangeable, or as one poster put it, elastic. A good current example is the interchangeability currently being promoted with the use of 'equality', 'fairness', and 'justice'. All three of those words of very definitive meaning and applications, and yet society uses them inappropriately, which misleads everyone.
love quotes from Orwell and '1984'…
A reformed socialist, he saw the light late in his life and realized totalitarianism was the end result.
And that was an evil end…
There is no honor or shame in these Progressives' DNA, me thinks.
Indeed.
If you REALLY want a proper education, you should attend the Limbaugh Institute of Conservative Excellence. Beck is teetering on the brink of a relapse if you ask me.
Ah, the newspeak buzz words of Modern Liberautism. The ones I hate the most are STIMULUS and saved or created and healthcare crisis, to name a few.
That "means" wouldn't achieve their "ends". We all know how Progressives think.
That is a fine suggestion!
You make a good point. It's far better to just expose the lie and continue the fight.
"vocabilary is the opiate of the people, fools talk", Tonio K Borderline personality games of blameing others for what you do, attack irrelevant issues of opponent, answer question by puffing up questioner then answer totally different to say what you want by telling half truths, in a speech say contrary things and everyone hears what want, if cornered say you agree but you have to follow the law or precedent. If all else fails say target had nothing to do with it, it was a person talking for them. One thing you'll never find in that dictionary is the word lie, if so the word lier would be defined- see polititian.
Well done!
"cut to the bone" how about ''…interred…"
It's a tedious process. You must first re-state your opponent's position in plain English before you rebut it. It is both effective and successful when employed consistently. More conservatives need to learn to speak this way.
I work for a US based multi-national corporation with employees in China. A few years back, a Chinese co-worker stated, "Liberty is the freedom to do anything the law allows." … definitions matter.
This is what makes me scream at the TV or when I'm having a conversation with an "enlightened one." It's all about doublespeak and saying what poll-tested wording passes muster with most Americans.
Thank you very much Ms. Doan, wright on please!
"write" sorry I'm old

here's a better way of discribing liberal or liberalism:
1) a cancerous entity hell bent on the destruction of everything and anything this country was founded on.
2) any person or persons believing the Constitution is outdated and 'wrong'
3) any person or persons who believe the Bill of Rights is "fundamentally wrong"
4) anyone who belives that the money someone worked ahrd all their life to earn, must give a majority of it to the 'rightful owners….)
5) ad nauseum … ad nauseum
Bipartisan is a beauty too. It means; We Won, You Lost. Tough sh!t.
I recently had and incident with my son's teacher. She gave him a "0" on a test because he supposedly "cheated."
I thought cheating was a serious infraction – we certainly would take that infraction very seriously – and usually results in disciplinary action, however nobody from the school ever called me.
When I questioned the teacher she said that my son "didn't cheat in the sense that he copied from another student." She said that he and two others had talked during that test, even though the three boys in question had already turned in their tests, and that talking during a test merits a "cheating-like" 0! I said that my son should receive a 0 for talking during a test but not for cheating.
Cheating-like or cheating? Sounds like a liberal.
I got two…deficit spending aka-tax increase…and stimulous aka-tax increase
marxist progress, now thats an oxymoron only a moron would love
socialist security, aint it funny that socialism is anti-social
Check out the MemeShock group on facebook. It is a conservative group dedicate to taking back the language. They have a dictionary of sneaky words that give you an advantage in a debate because the word's bias is in your favor. It works like "pro-choice" changes the debate from killing babies to supporting freedom.

Heard a guy on the radio tell a liberal talk show host that the govt. gives freedom, if you take that literally the guy thinks that if the govt. controlled everything in life then he would be totally free, how dumb are Liberals, its mass hynotism

Just buy a copy of “A Soviet Lexicon: Important Concepts, Terms, and Phrases” published in 1988; read it, study it, and pass it on. While you’re at it buy “KGB Lexicon,” so you know what you’re in for.

I put on my +2 Cape of Lie Detection when I get home from work. I wore it to work but my boss didn't care for it constantly ringing when he was talking and banned it from the office.
I have a lot less tolerance for BS these days too than when I was younger. It burns my ass to hear Obama tell a bold face lie and think we all buy it because he said it.
If you look closely at Obama's eyes, you can see the back of his head.
Very good DaveGuy, I like it!!!! I wonder if any Dem politicians log on to this site???
Will this new dictionary at least have a Thesaurus so you will know it isn't the "Democratic" Party? It is the "Democrat" party and there is and never has been anything "Democratic" about it.
"Shovel ready" = uh, oh, get the shovel, Ma, we're knee deep in ____!

The Democrats are also famous for forming "committees" to "study" the problems that Congress and the President are supposed to resolve (this way, they are absolved of guilt when they break promises) You just wait – after this new committee Obama put together under the ruse of "fiscal responsibility" recommends tax hikes for all Americans, Obama and the Democrats can say they weren't responsible for the tax hike – they had to follow the Committee's recommendation in order to avoid diaster.
That's why there was no CSPAN of the healthcare debates. Even the Democraps have a hard time dodging when it's on tape. Especially with Big Brother Breitbart watching. Thank the Lord!
Very well done DaveGuy, I like it!! I wonder if any Dem politicians log on to this site??
Rush lost me when he backed the articles of treason know as free trade. When those things were passed, the sucking sound was kept so quite, that nobody heard our future going overseas to China with our jobs.
VERY well stated! +1
An English-Democrat dictionary would be nice, but even better would be a moonbat-English dictionary so we knew how to translate what they say to their Kool-Aid drinking faithful. Being from the Chicago area where almost every other car has an Obama or Kerry-Edwards bumper sticker on it, that would be helpful…

That they lie isn't even the biggest problem. Pols have been lying since the Roman senate or longer. The problem is that more and more ignorant asses believe them and will even defend the lies. It outrages me to hear someone trying to justify an outright Maobama lie. I better quit before I have a coronary!
A plot is something sinister. A plan just denotes a series of steps. Anything the GOP does is sinister. Right?
What further outrages me, is that the ones stupid enough to believe the lies, have the right to vote.
They speak and wave their right hand as a distraction, while the left, unseen, executes the illusion. Just like a magician.
Don't listen to the words they say or be distracted by the props, watch what they do when they think no one is looking and that will tell you all you need to know.
Fresh blood needed before we become a rotting corpse, man. (sorry!)
I think the dictionary is a fabulous idea! I'll print a few million and sell them. Then, the Dems will find out the people finally understand what they are REALLY saying, so they will change the lingo. That will only take a week or so. I will then print and sell millions more revised dictionaries….lather, rinse, repeat! Look out Bill Gates here I come!!
Fortunately those stupid folks don't always vote or are not registered, that's why acorn makes up fake voters.
Needed: An English-Democratic Party Dictionary? by Lurita Doan: Great points made! I say it's actually simple: Marxism only works in the class room, not in the real world! But regardless, tough times are ahead because of a politically correct incompetent and inept voting public! Look: Breaking News from Moneynews.com "Buffett's Partner: 'It's Over' for U.S. Economy. Charlie Munger, Warren Buffett’s longtime business partner in Berkshire Hathaway, warns that the U.S. economic empire is crumbling before our eyes, thanks to federal debt and poor planning. The article leads with this headline: “Basically, It’s Over.” "
My used roll of toilet paper is all excerpts of Biden's best speeches.
This article is not news. Anyone with a high school degree should understand that these terms are being used to properly discuss the topics at hand. There is no cloaking, no disguise. Last I checked these are not big words.
Hi No More, That Bob Dylan quote doesn't make any sense to me,
sounds like "hippie" talk to me….If you want to explain it to me, go
ahead…..lol….All my life everyone I knew lived "inside the law"
including myself, and we were all "honest"…..
In response to the picture for this article…."Caught up in the fable,We watched the Tower grow,Five year plans and New Deals, wrapped in Golden Chains. And I wonder, still I wonder, who'll stop the rain(reign)?"CCR–Yeah its a hippy band, but they got this one right.
And I'll add that every atrocity the Nazi's did was perfectly legal, thanks to their attorneys…So we have to be very careful about just what the law allows.
"Propaganda is a horrible thing"…Won't see no late night public service announcements on this one!
I'd like to congratulate the author, for using all the terms and catch phrases that drive me insane. She left one out, the much bandied about "Green Shoots" that Warren Buffett and the business community beat US about the face and head with. Green Shoots? It sounds like astro-turf to me.
"Democrats have made an art form of mis-speak, consistently showing only a passing familiarity with good, old Merriam-Webster. Think Kafka and Orwell, where words are elastic, and plain-speaking is all but abandoned."
It's about time we all drop all pretense, and call a spade a spade. They lie to US. Is that simple enough?
Three excellent examples, which really cuts to the core.
WELCOME TO THE LAND OF THE SOVIETS WHERE LABOR IS FREE
Where global warming is evidenced by the coldness of the air.
Where we need to spend ourselves out of debt.

Lewis Carroll Quotes –
Alice: If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?
“When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean – neither more nor less.”
Bedside reading for Democrats
I like your short-hand "progs." It made me think "proglodytes" could work as their label as they collapse into the mist of history (and we help them do that).
http://libertyatstake.blogspot.com/
It's not "Democratic" Party Dictionary – Democratic is a governmental process, Democrat is a party.
"But to live outside the law, you must be honest" – Bob Dylan
“handout” = letting (nonpoor) people keep more of their earnings than the Dems think should be taken away.
“tax cut” = giving transfer payments to low earners, out of the taxes extracted from higher earners.
“paying for a (real) tax cut” = finding somewhere else to raise taxes.

In a way we already have a dictionary to their code words and phrases, simply look it up in a standard Webster's dictionary then look at what it says under the Antonyms and you have their meaning.
For example, look at progress. The straight forward definition is to advance, improve, gain or move forward. So the impression is that if someone is progressive then that must be a good thing, who wouldn't be in favor of progress? However the antonym is more the definition that fits those who want you to think that they are talking about a good thing.
Decline, decrease, deterioration, regression, retreat, retrogression.
I for one, and I think that there are many, am fed up with the use of words that mean the opposite of what most Americans understand them to mean.
Healthcare – nothing to do with either health or care.
Ecology – and it's many new terms such as 'green' or 'cap and trade'. — Another means by which we (the govt.) can extrapolate more money from the people through higher prices, taxes, fees, service charge, permits, ect. ect.
The political language is so filled with these definition snares that you can come away from a conversation thinking that you have talked about the same goal when you may have actually been talking about two totally different things, like the "fundamental transformation of America".
