Al Qaeda’s Successful Attack
by Lurita DoanEveryone keeps saying how lucky we are that the “crotch” bomber on Flight 253 was unable to ignite the explosives hidden in his underwear, but I am sorry to report that the attack was a actually a huge success. The plane was not destroyed and no lives were lost, but the larger, strategic goals of al Qaeda were certainly advanced.

Too many Americans, and many in our Department of Homeland Security, forget that al Qaeda targeted our economic power and symbols on 9/11. The goal, as Osama bin Laden announced, was to force, or cause the US to take actions, that would erode our economic prosperity and weaken us as a nation .
Unfortunately, we have given bin Laden a victory he does not deserve. DHS has, for some time, been unaware that the failure of many of the security measures and procedures that they have championed, has resulted in additional, self inflicted wounds.
Just days ago, while standing in a long line of frustrated travelers at Dulles airport in Virginia, I received a painful reminder. TSA screeners were operating a few of the processing lanes to clear travelers, and I suggested that it looked as if TSA might need to open up more lanes to handle the holiday traffic. “No”, the TSA screener responded, “we have the right number of lanes open, it’s just that there are too many passengers.”
No statement could better indicate how unimaginative our national response has been to terrorism. TSA seems to believe that there are too many travelers, and we would be better served if far fewer people used the airports.
This kind of logic has resulted in huge numbers of foreign travelers and vacationers no longer willing to come to the U.S. Indeed, America’s share of the world market has yet to recover to pre 9/11 levels. Understandably, travelers hate waiting in long lines, increasingly invasive procedures and airport hassles disguised as greater security.
Our leaders say the right things. Senior DHS executives talk knowledgeably about “layered defense” and “risk management”. Yet, when it’s time to implement a rational risk management strategy our government leaders are inept and fall back on the same old, one-size-fits-all approach, adding costly and ill conceived procedures that increase traveler frustration.
Remember the shoe bomber? In December 2001, this guy put explosives in his sneaker and tried to light it on fire in the airplane. He failed, and was wrestled to the ground by alert and courageous passengers. Shortly thereafter, DHS devised a new procedure, requiring everyone to remove their shoes and pass them through the detection system.
The shoe bomber response is a perfect example of DHS’s “risk based approach” in action. Everyone was required to take off their shoes from old ladies to little kids. Everyone was considered an equal risk. As a result, lines grew longer. DHS could focus attention on travelers that represented a real and potential threat, (for example, a Muslim man, travelling without a passport, without luggage, and who had been identified as potential terrorist by family members), but DHS has not done that. DHS views all travelers as an equal risk, which is probably why the TSA representative thinks that things would be better if fewer people decided to fly.
Unintentionally, DHS is creating the next opportunity for a terrorist attack. Screening procedures, document checks, baggage X-rays, shoe inspections, as well as whatever new procedures are dreamed up to check for explosives in underwear, have caused longer delays at airports. These procedures are why we are told to get to the airport early.
By creating these long lines of waiting travelers, DHS has created the next target for an al-Qaeda bomber. The line itself. A suicide bomber could kill more passengers by igniting a bomb in the midst of the long line of travelers as they wait to be screened by TSA. Why bother to try to smuggle explosive on the airplane when it is far easier to blow up people standing in line? Not only is there no security involved, but the number of travelers is far greater.
Watching DHS continually overreact to security challenges and then inadvertently create even bigger potential security problems is painful. As the 9/11 commission correctly noted, our leaders lack sufficient imagination. And so, we are probably doomed to more of the same.
Is there a better way? You bet there is. Here are three things we could do right now:
- Stop talking about “risk based security” and start implementing it. Our targeting system and screening resources should be focused on those actually representing the biggest potential threats. Too much effort is wasted on little kids, old ladies and people that represent little or no real threat. It’s time to stop all the political correctness and focus attention squarely on those that want to do us harm.
- Stop talking about layered defense and implement it. Instead of focusing attention on screening passengers at the TSA line, we could push some inspection and resources throughout the airport starting at the entrance. The most effective bomb detection system deployed anywhere in the world is a bomb sniffing dog. Canine units are also unobtrusive and do not hinder travelers as they move along their way, so they could be deployed at airport entrances with great effect without adding delays to the already ponderous process..
- Do talk about passengers. Oddly, DHS is reluctant to talk about the role of observant passengers in the security process. Perhaps DHS believes that only the government can provide passengers with protection, but both the shoe bomber and the crotch bomber were stopped, not by any government action, process, or inspection system, but by a determined, conscientious, fellow passenger. Such actions should be encouraged, and potential enemies should be made aware that travelling passengers are alert and willing to take necessary action. (A policy that allows the public to drag the next idiot bomber back through a gauntlet of frustrated travelers, eager to kick, beat, poke, and flog the would-be bomber on his way to jail would be even better.)
Above all else, we need to think more creatively and better leverage our national, entrepreneurial genius so that every new DHS policy includes a procedure that would improve security, but would also speed the flow of legitimate trade and travel. This way, every DHS investment would not only make us safer, but would have the added benefit of stimulating economic growth and vitality by moving people and cargo faster.
Let’s hope that over the next few weeks DHS starts trying to defeat al Qaeda by disrupting their strategy, and that the days of self-inflicted economic costs are no longer part of the norm.

Israeli agent to American agent, "You look for bombs, we look for bombers"
Actually, the more elegant solution would be to remove the incentive for them to attack us, which is our support for Israel. This support costs us billions every year and gains us nothing but enemies while Israel repeatedly stabs us in the back (USS Liberty attack, stealing nulcear material from the Savannah site, spying on us, selling our missile technology to CHINA, etc…..) We have no business supporting some exclusive race OR religion-based country. Imagine us supporting with our tax dollars a "White Homeland" that was created by kicking Blacks off land in Africa. Though it wasn't the same situation, reminds me of Apartheid South Africa which, btw, was an ally of Israel – they had Aparteid in common.
Your an idiot.
So long as we can have a separate set of laws based on race like Israel does, that might work. Make the US a White Homeland like Israel is Jew Homeland – let's carry this out to its natural "let's be like Israel" conclusion. Yes or no.
Fine article. Lately, the success of El Al methods in handling these things has been mentioned. Anyone know about this (and can expand)?
Profile, profile, profile.
Ah! A pre-emptive strike at intelligent and useful conversation I see. Troll softly and carry the big stick of alleged racism.
El Al has it right.
The US has it wrong.
Currently, we are two steps behind the beat, dancing to a bad polka. The terrorists are acting. We, are reacting. It will never work as long as they are making US dance to their music.
Political correctness can be dangerous. These bombers all have fit a PROFILE.
I'm pretty sure you are on the wrong site.
Crotch bomber? Weenie bomber is more like it.
Should we lease the box cars and ovens or buy? Run the numbers and get back to me.
The United States of America needs to get UNITED. A true American always puts OUR country First and formost. As the old saying goes "Charity begins at home." In this case Every United States Citizen needs to get motivated take action and do their duty to protect the GREATEST Country in the world. What ever it takes we need to get on the same page and show the wold how INTELLEGENT, POWEFULl perservering AMERICAN people will be.

As Dan said, El Al (Israelis) looks for bombers while we look for bombs. Practicality is a different matter, though, because El Al handles a small fraction of our air traffic. Still, we could use some lessons from them on how to approach the entire task of screening for potential risks, what to look for and what should be more closely scrutinized.
I like Knicker Bomber. Has a nice ring to it.
Up to now, edge goes to binladen. Of course if he has anything at all to do with the farce in the WH its a clear whippin?
Dan,
I'd say it's more like the wrong universe

I, for one, intend to do my part. Instead of putting up with the onerous, absurd and invasive security theater that is TSA, I would rather drive across the country – taking three days to do so – than fly.
I quit flying in 2003. The TSA security kabuki, carried out by a team less intelligent than chimps, both infuriated me and made me laugh. I'm an 11th generation American, and I simply won't put up with that cr@p. Now, if I can't drive there, I don't go.
Back in '83 when I was a longhair rock guitarist returning from a year-long tour of Europe, I hooked up with an El Al flight out of Israel in Amsterdam to return to New York. My passport had visa stamps from just about every country in western Europe and Scandinavia, so the El Al security guys took me out of the line and interviewed me. They made me play my Walkman for them (Remember those?), they looked INSIDE my guitar – they had a set of jewler's tools: Is that cool, or what? – and they made the plane wait 15 minutes until they were done with me. They were polite but very, very intense (The Beirut bombing was a few months earlier).
That's how you do it, right there, you profile the he!! out of people. Oh, and I had steel untensils to eat with when abord. The kosher meals were by far the best airline food I've ever had.
The TSA is a joke. A sick, pathetic, and profoundly stupid joke.
Were you born that stupid, or did you have to practice? It doesn't have anything to do with Israle. The Islamofascists hate us because we are not Islamofascists. They've even told us as much.
They hate us not only for supporting Israel, but for being, what they consider, a Christian nation. Too bad more people in America don't consider us to be a Christian nation.
Is that your final solution?
Yeah, too bad apartheid absolutely destroyed the South African economy in addition to being morally abhorrent.
Where do you get your tin foil hats?
I have stopped flying. In my opinion, it's just not worth it.
You are completely uninformed if you think, that our supporting Israe,l is the ONLY thing they have against us!!
You sound like David Duke on an acid trip with these ideas of yours.
Caly Girl, start with voting out the California Democrats please…
Well, there you have it! Obama has proven more than enough times, that he is NOT a true American!!
The PC apologists always cry that not all mulsims are terrorists … maybe but what is true is that so far all of the terrorists have been muslims. With props to JG profile, profile, profile!
Profile the crap out of me …. hell let's do retna scans if I can get though faster …
the author is right .. they did win again and again ….
head over to Yeman and tell the government to pick a corner of the country .. any corner.. then send over ervythign we got and start bombing the crap out of it until they hadn over who we need… soon you will run out of country
War is hell .. keep it that way …. WWII would still be going on today if we had these clowns (both sides) in office…
No Fonz, we need to stop supporting the oil producing nations in the middle east with trillions of dollars in oil imports. We can start that by exploring and producing our own energy resources and sending those terrorist supporting nations into economic ruin. This would dry up the finances of the muslim terrorist operations, and prove once and for all that a peaceful and productive nation like Israel is far superior to any islamic state.
DHS – the crisis over-reaction created liberties/freedom/rights monster that can never earn it's costs. A constant adversary on our own team that says every day- "We must be perfect". Translated that means; We will be trying every day to sacrifice your heritage in compromise for a false and unachievable security". And will be forever forward.
It won't be long until the Bombers use the same methods the drug lords use to transport drugs across the border. Without a body x-ray, we won't be able to detect the explosives. We must start looking for bombers NOW! The health risks of repeat exposures to X-rays at airports would become a huge health issue to the nation and raise health care costs.
Anyone that get on an airplane after what happened during Christmas, is, in my opinion, much too trusting in this administration…while nothing worthwhile is being done about security in this country the idiots in charge, are behind closed doors, yet again, trying to ram a health care debacle down the throats of the American people! They are NOT in the least concerned about securing America against terror attacks, rather their criminal agendas!!!
I posted this on Big Hollywood yesterday, and it seems all the more appropriate with this story:
"I actually had a twinge of happiness when I heard Obama had bombed Yemen but then this crap happens. Here's a Walter Williams article I read in one of his books making a good case for racial profiling:

Some sage words from a wise man: Like he says, don't blame the security officers who detain you if you're innocent, blame your Muslim brethren who have caused you to be associated with atrocities."
Profile the crap out of people. Screw political correctness.
Government should not provide security for private companies. End of story.
You missed the most important change required, and as such you are depending on government to work and work efficiently. It won't happen, from Katrina response to educating kids, government is a failure and will continue to be.
Ya'll are being so hard on The Fonz. I was just about to disagree with him, but then I realized he's going for the "elegant solution." And as we all know, elegance wins wars and establishes peace throughout the world…

i would still fly before I drove across the country. It's faster and safer. 40,000 deaths per year on the highway.
Your odds of trouble on an airplane are slim to none.
When Mr Obama releases more prisoners from Gitmo Bay, are they going to be screened? Every day, in almost every way they are insulting us as a people! The American People did not screen Mr Obama good enough before voting him into Office!
After dropping off my son and his family for their flight from Phoenix to Raleigh, I had a sick thought. Noting the half a block long queue for baggage check in what is to prevent an inventive terrorist from blowing up a suitcase bomb there? Absolutely nothing! The human carnage would be horrendous. This would bring up the absurd situation of having to be inspected before you even entered the airport.
Recently retired, my wife and I bought an RV expressly to travel across country and avoid airports. We live in interesting times.
You miss the point. You have to make people uncomfortable. If you are a muslim who isn't involved in terrorism, jihad, extremism, etc… sooner or later you'll get pissed off enough about being strip searched at the airport so that when you hear about or notice someone who is trying to blow up the airport, you'll (quietly) take action so that person doesn't succeed.
The people have to be as vigilant as the security people, and treating everyone equally doesn't create that mindset, it just causes a shrug-the-shoulders-because-everyone-has-to-go-through-it attitude.
So far, bombers have either looked arabic or like a hippie, so let's start by singling out all arabs and hippies…
Corruption destryoed the South African economy. Post-colonialism destroyed the South African economy. Rampant crime destroyed the South African economy.
Apartheid was bad, no one will deny that. But there are a lot of other forces at work that keep it firmly locked in the third world.
Profiling, bomb sniffing dogs, pat downs and body cavity searches have become a necessary evil. Deal with it Mohammed, afterall it's your stinking Jihadist ideaology that has brought all of this about.
If you don't like the way American Ailines do it, don't come here. Most of us don't want you here anyway.
Who is John Galt?
Trying to tell a blockhead conservative that our foreign policy might create enemies is like trying to tell a liberal welfare doesn't help fix poverty.
We have no business meddling in Israel. I agree.
Your are correct, if we removed the incentive, they would not attack. You are incorrect about Israel as the motive but it serves their purpose if you think it is the motive. The real motive is religious hegemony (not just against Israel but everywhere) and to truly implement your elegant solution, we would need to submit to the Muslim world view resulting in mass conversions, sharia law and many other tyrannical rules and policies. By all means, step up and lead by example and be the first to convert.
tisk tisk, that's a horrible comeback. Research it, you might discover he is right.
Look for this guy to come through America real soon !!!!

Then al Qaeda has won. They are terrorist, religious fanatics, not a cult, not a group that believes differently, they are true fanatics , meaning their goal is to spread fear & terror, to throw the world into chaos & bring on Armageddon. Our government & many of us, I would say the majority, have proven over & over again that they just don't get it. Their attacks, by our definition of success, do not need to be TECHNICALLY successful, to be TACTFULLY successful, that would just be a bonus. Often times they are even more successful if the attempts fail because we have idiots like Attorney General Holder and many in this Administration that will give them a pulpit to spew their theology & allow them to continue on spreading terror.
I ran the numbers and we can't afford to meddle in Israel anymore. It's time to let the 51st state go.
Wether we are "protecting" Jews in Israel or Muslims in Kosovo, you have to ask what supporting perpetual war accomplishes besides adding to the national debt. And if you can't atleast question that, then you are equally as blockheaded as a liberal that can't understand welfare doesn't solve poverty.
It's not profiling, it's called good police work.
It IS profiling and it should be done. Profiling IS good police work. Perhaps you thought my comment was from a bleeding-heart liberal. That, I am not.
They have also told us that they love bankrupting the United States by luring us into perpetual war. It solves nothing. They run around with some AK 47's and macgyveresque bombs while we spend trillions.
We constantly meddle in other countries affairs because the U.S. government knows best. They also know that we don't need to eat trans fat, our water tank on our toilet should be a certain size, and we should use a certain type of light bulb.

Before 9/11, Bin Laden never once mentioned Israel in any of his insane rants. He did say that the presence of US troops in Saudi Arabia was the worst disaster to befall Islam since the death of Mohamed. That has nothing to do with Israel and everything to do with protecting US foreign oil supplies. Bin Laden repeatedly demanded the US to leave the Arabian peninsula. He never once demanded anything regarding Israel. Anyone who knows a smidgen of real history (not the propaganda leftists spew) knows Muslims have been waging Jihad against us infidels for 1400 years. Things had been quiet on the western front since the fall of the Ottoman Empire (although Jihad had continued unabated elsewhere). Now they’re on the offensive again. Nothing but our very existence makes them hate us.
Al Quaeda, Bin Laden, Arabs, Muslims, and the world in general couldn’t give a rat’s ass about the Palestinians. Occasionally they use the Israeli/Arab conflict as a rallying cry to garner sympathy from leftists and any other fellow antisemetic travellers like yourself.
And yes, the TSA and DHS could learn a lot from Israeli security. I’ve flown to and from Israel. Psychological screening starts even before you get on line for your ticket. It’s also interesting they don’t use such powerful metal detectors as in the US. They know they’ve already properly screened everyone before they get that far. How do I know this? I have a prosthesis in my arm. Before 9/11 this never caused a problem. Since 9/11, I have set off the metal detector every time in the US. Never in Israel. There are dozens of Arab Muslims and other people of all stripes on the plane and I feel completely safe.
I hear you, dictators run rampant through the continent.
Check out this article:
http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinio...
and while you're at it throw out all the illegal aliens squatting in your State…I was born in CA…the last time I went to a high school reunion, I didn't recognize it, I though I was south of the border!! I'll never return….
"By creating these long lines of waiting travelers, DHS has created the next target for an al-Qaeda bomber."
And maybe that is exactly what Al Qaeda wanted. Al Qaeda is adaptive, we in the US are very static in our approach to terrorism. This junior Jihadist had a mission, he may very well have carried it out perfectly. Not that this little junior terrorist knew what the true goals of his handlers were.
political correctness has rendered us impotent in our abilities to make war and fight the bad guys.
I fly to Amsterdam to visit with our family at least once a year. Prior to 9/11 our blond haired – blue eyed daughter (6 yrs old at the time) was taken from the screening line to be interviewed – I was told I could not be with her! She was taken behind a glass opaque screen (not out of my sight) and asked about her travels, told to turn on her walkman and her beloved Furby (remember those?). Needless to say I was horrified that they would target a child and not let me be with her. From that point on I vowed I would never let my family be separated at an airport regardless of the security protocol in place. I'm not looking forward to our spring visit.
He is NOT right. Muslims have been at war with Christians and Jews long before there was ever a state of Israel. Saying otherwise shows ignorance of historical fact.
Just because he got his facts straight on Israel stabbing us in the back does not mean his analysis is correct. What good would come of throwing Israel under the bus? Eventually that country would be attacked and genocide would take place. Those who consider us their enemy would have advanced their agenda and accomplished one of their strategic goals, this would embolden them to continue the advance not seek a peace. Bloodshed would continue.
Whenever I look at the TSA screeners working at an airport, I am reminded of KMart. There are always only 1/5 of the available counters being used (no matter the demand) and the screeners have a bored and stupid expression. Not inspiring.
You must know that if all the airlines had their own private security screeners, the ACLU woukd be crawling all over them looking for discriminatory practices. Eventually the ACLU would render private security just as ineffective and impotent as the TSA is now.
So true, the best defense we have seen is a motivate set of Individuals on the plane that thwarted the terrorists actions. Big Government will always trend toward ineptness, corruption, inefficiency, apathy, waste and eventually collapse on itself due to it's size.
We need to somehow enable passengers to be more effective against the terrorists on board, not less. That has proven to be our best defense so far.
I'm REALLY surprised that there haven't been homicide bombers/shootings at the malls yet.
I agree . When asked why he wanted to blow up the plane the guy made references to the cruise missiles launched in Yemen a few weeks before. You hit a hornets nest with a bat and you're going to get stung. . By the DOD own account cruise missiles and drone attacks have a 3% success rate. So for every three bad guys you get you kill 93 people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Those are 93 mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers who had the misfortune of living near some bad dudes. The argument will be, well they should of known better than to live next to some terrorist. Or we're at war and they're collateral damage. I call bull shit. If it was your mother, father sister or brother who was killed by another countries arrogance you can't tell me you'd sit here and say 'well it was the United States, and they did have some intel that maybe a bad guy lived next door so that makes it ok'. yeah right…. Grow up people, this isn't a video game this is peoples lives we're destroying. Our actions as a nation have repercussions. It's called blow back. I'm not say we should stand by and do nothing but we spend 75 billion a year on intelligence. And God only knows how much on the military. You think they could come up with a way to take a few bad guys out with out pissing off the whole neighborhood….
Take away Air Force One and Pelosi One and see how fast air travel security changes.
keepdad, I thought about that when looking at pictures of the jam-packed terminal right after someone walked the wrong way and then disappeared 20 minutes later. Supposed that person had only seemed to disappear, or suppose that person had had an accomplice with explosives on or in his body, and suppose that person or his accomplice had been herded into the holding area with those hundreds of other travelers? If you and I can think this way, I'm sure the terrorists have already thought of it.
My first thought was that everyone should fly naked, but, then I realized I might get the seat next to Janet Napolitano, and changed my mind.
Let's look at Hollyweird
I now understand that when you retire from TSA you are elgible to apply for a security job at the white house.

So after we abandon the Israelis to extermination, what then? Comply with the Jihadists when they demand we stop supporting Great Britain? How many allies will we have to turn our backs on in order to make the terrorists like us?
Feigned outrage over our support for Israel is just a smokescreen, something to get sympathetic Lefties and other anti-semites within our borders to do their propaganda work for them. What they really want is to destroy Western civilization and establish a worldwide caliphate. The best way to do that is to get us to throw up our hands and leave the Middle East, so they can control the world's oil supply and a good deal of nuclear weaponry.
Your concerns are right on. I thought of this a few years ago myself… the danger of a mass of unscreened passengers.. all lined up. It's a pathetic response to screen everyone equally. Air travel has not recovered and that is a win. When free people agree to be lined up and searched and the flow of commerce and free travel are restricted, the terrorist wins.
All of your bullet points are spot on and I'd add that congress ( or even individual states ) add provisions of harmless clauses or laws… that a fellow airline traveler that intercedes will be held harmless in the eyes of the court for reacting to a perceived threat. Yes, it's not perfection, BUT it sends a direct signal that we are living in new times and some people withhold action or judgement of circumstances because they fear litigation/prosecution.
Why doesn't someone run on a platform of improving air travel? The suggestions above are great. Bomb sniffing dogs, profiling everyone.
What happened to the program to allow pilots to carry? Anyone? Did they stall the licenses? I think so. Last I heard, there were thousands that wanted to participate, and only a dozen allowed.
How about a new rule. The plane can only take off it greater than 25% of the passengers are packing concealed. That would greatly enhance the security on the plane.
DHS's system of profiling Americans seems to have a fault. It didn't catch the panty bomber. Hmmm you mean it wasn't one of the groups the DHS targeted for profiling earlier this year. How odd….
This guy wasn't: Former Military – Nope, Tea Party – Nope, Rightwing extremist – Nope, etc.
Anyone remember the video of Bin Laden promising to give us a Christmas gift? Well, turned out it was the weenie-bomber. I say we bomb the $#@! out of those guys on the next Muslim holiday.
Let's all remember the Christmas miracle this year of a Muslim homicide bomber that failed due to an explosive that did not detonate. And brave passengers that rushed to the defense of their fellows.
Hear, hear. Every last one of our elected reps (POTUS excepted) should have to fly on commercial flights only.
Huc,
I appreciate, and echo your sentiments.
I quit flying comercially, on September 11th, 2001. That, from a man who has flown over a million miles. It is no longer worth it. Today, if someone really needs to see me face to face, I prefer they come to me. If it is urgent, I'll fly private aircraft, and I fly helicopter alot for short business trips.
I simply refuse to pay top dollar for air travel, then be treated as a suspect, while our little brown brethern sail on through security. I am an American. WE built the world, and gave them everything they now use against US.
George Bush, his failed Department of Homeland In-security, Janet "Butch" Napilatano, the TSA, Barrack Hussein Obama, and the Muslim Arab world can kiss my ass.
No exceptions. That is how this crap gets out of hand and elitist attitude grows.
SNIP : “No”, the TSA screener responded, “we have the right number of lanes open, it’s just that there are too many passengers"
Goverment at its finest, LMAO
Not to worry, dont you know? We have free healthcare coming. (sarc)
Amen Cowboy. I will never fly again. If I travel, I drive, and thats it. I don't plan on leaving the country, because there is no place worthwhile to to go. Once the country wakes up from this little PC coma we are in, maybe we can start making some much needed changes to the way we handle terrorism.
I disagree, if we had the limp-wristed politicians spouting their peacenik rhetoric and bowing and scraping to Hitler and Hirohito, we would be speaking a different language or you would be a lampshade.
Like good old Rahm once said, "Never let a good crisis go to waste".
No, I would make the exception for the POTUS and VPOTUS because of their demanding schedules and real need to be many places in the US and overseas for official State business. There is value in giving them extra protection given the target size and value. Senators and Congressional members are another story, though. Pelosi has abused her position so much that she should be put on a no-fly list just to give the airmen a break from her.
I don't mind if Muslims are tired of the terrorist BS and want to move here LEGALLY to protect their children, but you are right, profiling is a proven security measure, and should be put to very good use. It does make one wonder however, why do you not see more Muslims speaking out about disagreeing with the terrorists or condemning their actions.
Thefonz,
So the west should commit suicide so some pinko commie liberal jihadis terrorist can sleep safely. No dice.
Joe
It is the opposite.
Off shore drilling creates as many problems as it solves. We are still burning oil and the risk of environmental disaster from spills becomes inevitable. Go to the middle east sometime and look at their shorelines and then come back and tell us if you still want that for this country.
With the money we have spent attacking Iraq we could be well on our way to oil independence by now. We need a national commitment to ween ourselves off of foreign oil first, and then all fossil fuels. The technology is on the shelf, we just need the commitment to wind, solar, nuclear, hydrogen and several new technologies that could produce energy given a financial commitment.
You got it Mark We are trying everything in our power to vote those liars out. Especially Boxer & Feinstein.
They have wasted our tax money and accomplished absolutly NOTHING. They collect their paycheck live a very very comfortable live & F the constituents
Caly Girl
Yeah, then they poison the food supply. Good plan. You people have your heads in the sand.
The perfect reason for weening ourselves off of fossil fuels. Let them try and bath in their oil reserves once we have moved on to the next great technology leap.
You are right.
I have traveled to over forty countries.
There is no place like the good ol' US of A. Those third and fourth world cesspools are nothing but fetid shitholes, full of the great unwashed; mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually incapable of putting cohernet thoughts together. They have only recently learned to function and use an opposing thumb, and are merely one generation away from tree sloths.
Screw 'em. I'm tired of being a second class world citizen to the dregs of society.

So, we are Christians fighting the Muslims? Nonsense. The Muslims didn't care about the US until we started messing in their business for the oil companies (and Israel.)
I am John Galt.
So are a lot of other folks………
You got it! It is all about perpetual war as described by Orwell.
Actually, the official story states our support of Israel as a reason if not the main one.
Excellent point but it requires a commitment to intelligence gathering and human intel. It also requires that we stop behaving as though we have been defeated by the terrorists every time they succeed at sneaking onto a boat, train or airplane, or manage to kill some people. In wars people die and we are going to lose a few. But not nearly as many as we win.
Why aren't they attacking the MUCH more Christian nation of Brazil? Many more nations are more Christian….including the Vatican!
I agree to a large extent. Until redheaded freckled teenagers start blowing up stuff, let's concentrate our searches on the types of people who want to kill us. I think we can get so good at it that we can pull it off with minimal invasion of privacy to legitimate travelers and make us all safer in the process.
tiredofit2010 I think alot of people are real sick & tired of the BS. Since our economy is worthless out here a lot of the illegals disappeard I wish a lot more would leave. Some of our Cities take a stand and deport them when they hang around streets trying to get work. We have a law called vagrency No lottering in front of Home Depot. or any other street. I will not use any illegals for anything. if we all follow that rule they will not be able to survive her.
California Gal not Mexico gal
Why did the US place economic sanctions on Apartheid South Africa but ignored their ally, Apartheid Israel?
There are ways to accomplish it without giving internal body cavity searches to every Muslim who wants to travel. Buy it's hard to argue against your main point.
Jon Stewart said it best… When it comes time to meet Allah and start deflowering your 72 virgins, better bring your gear.
Well said, JohnnyKnoxs!!!!!! Only the dupes falling for this "war for peace" are NOT conservatives – they are neocons. Any peace at the point of a gun will be temporary.
Finally a story that gets it! Thank you!
So, they are trying to convert us with bombs. And we are trying to convert them with bombs. I think you haven't thought this through. Their biggest weapon is OUR insane immigration and land ownership laws (almost no other nation in the world allows such immigration and foreign ownership of land than in the US )
Why aren't they doing this to Brazil?
Precisely.
Israel is just an excuse.
If Israel goes under, Spain or France will be next. Spain because it was once Moslem, France because Islam once conquered part of the south and there are so many marginalized "eastern youths".
"So after we abandon the Israelis to extermination, what then?"
Celebrate. Count the money we save.
"Comply with the Jihadists when they demand we stop supporting Great Britain?"
How much foreign aid do we give Britain?
"What they really want is to destroy Western civilization and establish a worldwide caliphate."
Why is this taken seriously when saying the Jews want to take over the world is denounced?
Where I travel the screeners are efficient, competent and friendly. I have the benefit of flying out of a small market airport, but I have had very little hassles on return trips. It helps to learn the rules and the "tricks" to keep from getting singled out. When that happens you better not have any plans for the next 20 minutes or so.
Wow, they must love to see ugly Americans like you coming. No wonder they hate us.
Off Thread ~~~ Mark Steyn is reporting on Rush Limbaugh that Michael Yon has been arrested and handcuffed at the Seattle airport for refusing to disclose when asked by a security guard how much money he, Yon, earned. What is going on with this IncompetanoKeystone Kops Homeland Security joke???????
Supporting with our tax dollars a "White Homeland" that was created by kicking Blacks off land in Africa? Sounds good to me. Can we start by kicking one particular black out of America?
Do you think so?
I have paid a price, professionally, and personally.
I loved to travel, and do business worldwide. I was successful at it also.
In thirty five years, and forty-six countries; travelling over a million air miles. Having been shot, stabbed, blown up, kidnapped and left for dead, I do have a different perspective than the "average" person.
No, "they" hate US simply because we are Americans. WE built the world, and if you, or anyone like you thinks I'm gonna apologize for that, or suffer white guilt, you haven't got a clue.
How about you? Ever been out of your mommas basement, or gone past your county line?
I am surprised it has not happened yet.
Did you see the business news yesterday? The worlds tallest building is now in Dubai. It has a Mosque on the very top. That'd make one helluva target for Protestant Suicide Bombers…………
Yeah, I don't know about the whole naked flier thing. They would just have to take out that center seat because there are not many fliers I want to get to know that well. Headphones and blindfolds would be hot ticket items.
Bin Laden has indeed already won in his campaign. He FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORMED America on 9-11 and could have easily retired after wards, knowing that the total destruction of the American way of life was well underway. We have spent untold billions on so called security that does virtually nothing to make anyone safer. We have gone to war, likely wasting more American lives in combat than would have ever been lost to terrorism. The whole purpose of terrorism is not to kill people, but to change them through fear. In that, they have achieved unimaginable success, and they will continue that success for as long as we believe that spending money and shredding liberty will somehow protect us.
Air travel security needs and over haul What about the our BORDERS? What about the trains? What about the cruise boats? We all need to fix these problems because our Government past & present are NOT looking out for the AMERICAN CITIZENS
TIME to ACT NOW WE PAY THEIR SALARYS & DON"T YOU FORGET IT
YOU CORRUPT POLITIANS. You will get your payback for what you all did to our country and how you disrespect the VERY HARD WORKING AMERICAN CITIZENS
I think a House Speaker rates private transportation regardless of political affiliation. It's a monster job and for the most part, thankless. On its best day running the congress is like herding fleas.
Well said!
Maybe so, but Pelosi seems to be quite the prima donna about her air travel. I hate prima donnas. We don't need another aristrocracy here.
Yeah… all the Christian and Jewish homicide bombers. LOL.
Some prefer to see the mass graves as half-empty, some see them as half-full.
You think this is all about Israel. I got news for you: this dates back 800+ years to the Middle Ages and the freakin' Crusades. Even if Israel disappeared tomorrow, this "fight" isn't going to go away.
And speaking of heads in the sand, that would be the liberals and peaceniks who think that these terrorists are actually willing to negotiate peace. They're not. Sure, they'll welcome you with open arms, take your "donations" and then stab you in the back first chance they get.
Mind boggling how people like you are so frickin' clueless!
Thanks, and you're right about our "behaving as though we have been defeated…" Although actually, that isn't really "us," it's our opportunistic political pundits taking cheap shots at (their) ideological opponents.
My comment, though, was a response to Terry Huffman's question about El Al and I wasn't thinking beyond the air traffic thing. I completely agree with your point about the necessity of commitment to intelligence gathering and human intel (as well as greater respect and support for the intel gatherers).
What? What business is it of anyone's how much ANYONE EARNS???? What does that have to do with security? Someone is going to get sued for this one.
And your solution is….?
Sooooo…. when the muslims are bombing the Glasgow Airport (Scotland), and the London Underground (England) or the Spanish rail system (Spain)… that's all about the US's involvement in Israel?
Riiiiiiiight….
Religion is not a real reason, it is only a pretext. The real motive is that we are perceived as rich and they want us to share. That is why they don't do this to Brazil. They did it occasionally to Argentina, though. The only solution – nuclear energy.
Seems like a very strange and irrelevant question for a security screener to be asking a traveler. When I hear things like this that appear too weird to be true there is usually more to the story than what has been reported.
That being said I have been stopped on I-10 near El Paso by U.S. border agents and asked if I were a citizen, and what my business was in El Paso. It was a struggle not to be a smart ass, but like Yon I did ask them, once I proved American citizenship (with Texas DL and US retired military ID), why it was any of there concern what I did for a living. He was unfriendly and decided he needed to search my trunk. Guess I should have kept my mouth shut.
Probably it would have escaped my attention had I not recognized the name Yon, a correspondent/blogger embedded until recently with Brit and American troops in Afghanistan whose field reports has appeared in BG and BH.
My hope is the someone in Breitbart with better resources will look into it and see what the story is.
We are always willing to believe the worst about people that we don't agree with. The worm will turn soon enough and the Speaker's ride should not depend on how nice a guy (or gal) they are. Also, everyone should be allowed a bad day. I'm taking mine tomorrow.
And when it does it will be CHAOS for the airlines because noone will be wanting to gather in lines for their absurd screening process.
But lets just keep blaming Obama for everything and not admit we have had a failed system in place for years. A process setup and executed by the smartest administration this country has ever seen. Just ask Karl Rove.
You're a real ignoramus. Seriously, criminally ignorant.
Thomas Jefferson needed to understand Muslims who might soon become the enemies of the U.S. When American colonists rebelled against British rule in 1776, American merchant ships lost Royal Navy protection. With no American Navy for protection, American ships were attacked and their Christian crews enslaved by Muslim pirates operating under the control of the "Dey of Algiers"–an Islamist warlord ruling Algeria. (France and Europe dealt with the piracy threat by -what else- paying tributes to appease the pirates.)
In a later meeting with the American Congress, it was reported that Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja had answered that Islam "was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Quran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman (Muslim) who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise."
All way before there was a state of Israel, before the big oil companies, before anything you even know or THINK you know about, idiot.
And made possible thanks solely to liberal policies of appeasement, appeasement, appeasement.
Yeah, but liberals know better than ANYBODY why the Muslims are unhappy with us. Why, they even know better than the Muslims themselves. Liberals are soooooo smart.
>/SARC OFF
Sounds like you've had an interesting travel schedule. But it has left you rather bitter.
Most of my travel has been in B-52s, B-1s and C-141 (A models). I made it through a 25 year career without getting shot or stabbed so I can't identify with you there.
People don't hate Americans. They hate the stereotypes of Americans that they have been force fed. Makes it difficult to communicate, but you can break through if you want to. Not with everyone, but with somebody.
"When asked why he wanted to blow up the plane the guy made references to the cruise missiles launched in Yemen a few weeks before. "
THE PLANNING AND LOGISTICS WAS TAKING PLACE WELL BEFORE THE YEMENI BOMBING, so ANY excuse would do. THIS EXPLANATION UTTERLY FAILS. Your ability to use logic FAILS. You are just a non-thinking, bleating liberal mouthpiece. You FAIL.
They hate us because you excelled at fisting lessons in grade school.
Do you hate this country and its people? You are aiding terrorists by giving them ideas. They are not original thinkers and depend on others for their ideas.
Wow, sorry to hear the rough history you have had leaving our borders. That would be an interesting conversation, I have a feeling. I yield to your expertise in the matter.
Off-shore drilling using 21st century technology all but eliminates the possibility of "environmental disaster." Vast, proven reserves of on-shore oil and oil shale continue to be discovered inside our borders. With a real strategy for gaining energy independence, we should use these domestic supplies to full capacity until we can redevelop our nuclear capacity and advance our use of hydrogen.
And the goal of all of this must be to develop and sustain an unlimited amount of energy for the purpose of building a real, self sufficient economy. NOT to impose austerity measures upon the population, the way the so-called "progressives" have plans to do.
BTW, you can drop the "solar" and "windmill" nonsense. We need to move FORWARD with our technology, not backward the way the "regressives" would like us to.
I don't need to "break through", nor do I want to.
Not with everyone, not even with someone.
Nope, not bitter either. I have lived the American dream, and have been blessed beyond my wildest expectations.
I would beg to differ with you. People not only hate the stereotypes of Americans, they hate Americans in general. Don't believe me? Go to Rhiyad, or Tehran, or Dubai and start witnessing to a Muslim about Christianity. Do it with a megaphone, the same way they do it in New York City, or Dearborn, Michigan.
Americans, on the other hand, are a rather open minded lot. They do not hate Muslims, but hate the stereotype.
Did Obama tell you that the Vatican was a nation? Wow, when did that happen? Guess I missed that, along with the 7 new states that joined our union!!
And where is the "Christian-ness" of nations rated? Who does it? Is it like a Zagat rating?
What do your parents think of your profound idiocy? I guess you spend too much time with people who think like you (meaning, they don't think) so you have no idea how deeply defective your "logic" is.
How about I am tired of being a second class citizen in my own country. I am tired of having to push 1 for English. If I buy a toy I have to assemble for my son, I hate it when they do not include the instructions in English, but remember the instructions for French and Spanish (true story), tis is not racism, it's realism. Do you think us as a nation can survive such a divided (dare I say "segregated") society? I think not.
Cowboy Logic I too have given up commercial/TSA travel. We have owned a place on Maui for over twenty five years. I REFUSE to go thru the "under educated, lazy, fools that are ALL employed by TSA (usually a minority that is rude)…long story short I refuse to visit MY Maui home. Thank God we have a great "property manager" the extra rent income, during this Obama/Democrat Depression is nice too! Cowboy I just wonder HOW many of us UNHAPPY potential fliers are doing the same thing? I fly out of SeaTac or Vancouver BC and they both are totally PC!
Press one for English……

I think there are alot of US.
We have the cash, and are simply fed up of being treated like trash.
The only way to prevent a terror attack is the same way that we always have, stop them before they have a a chance to act. There have been numerous plots discovered and foiled through good intelligence gathering. After the attacks on 9-11 we found out that there was intelligence beforehand but that it had been ignored, same thing in this panty-bomber case. We had the intelligence to stop both of these but failed to act on it. Consider this: How many security measures would it take to guaranty a safe air flight? If you could somehow stop an attacker from getting on a plane, what would stop him from exploding himself at security. Do you then make people go through body scans before even exiting the interstate to get to the airport. Suppose they decide airports are too much trouble and go after malls, or schools, or road side cafes, or busy sidewalks. You will never stop someone who is willing to die to take you out except by catching them beforehand. We are bankrupting the country and walking around in fear of an attack. It seems to me that is exactly what they want us to do.
YOu know that the Jews are not even allowed to pray or bring ANYTHING with Jewish writing near or on their HOLIEST SITE, the Temple Mount, right? They get arrested if they attempt it. No yarmulkes allowed. But right next door is a mosque that blares prayers at all hours of the day. All thanks to liberal policies and attempts on the parts of Jews to make peace with Muslims. And I'm sure I don't need to mention how Bibles are not allowed in Muslim states.
OR MAYBE I DO, CONSIDERING YOUR ALL- ENCOMPASSING IGNORANCE.
You can cite numbers all day but if I drive I can go pee when I WANT TO. Not to mention the food is a damned sight better!
And the failure was due to ??? (PC!)
You don't stop this madness by hoping to "catch" people before they act. You do it by keeping THEM off-balance and on the run, and by making the consequences of getting caught so awful that they think long and hard about just staying home. You sure as heck DON'T stop anything by turning this into a criminal matter and turning failed terrorists over to American trial lawyers.
What they WANT US TO DO is die. They want us to treat their jihadis like kittens. They want us to fold. Obama is doing exactly what they want.
Why aren't they attacking the Vatican, then? Why didn't they attack the US before we supported Israel?
some say I have a stick of dyn-o-mite in my undies.
It is about their support of Israel's wars in the Middle East, yes. Did they attack Columbia?
They were pirates that were Muslim. Wasn't McVeigh a Christian?
No, the interventionist policy of war, war, war. You expect to bully them forever? Look up Operation Ajax.
Bankrupting the US? I didn't know Bernanke, Geithner, and Madoff were all Muslims.
It is a nation. That is why it is called THE Vatican and not just "Vatican." You think it is just a building?
People like Dhass and JohnnyKnoxs HAVE TO compliantly, consciously and willfully REMAIN IGNORANT. They are confronted daily, consistently with facts here, but refuse to learn anything about history.
Yeah, closing Yucca Mountain is a real sign of how seriously Obama takes the need for alternative energy. That is, the kinds that aren't rigged to make liberals rich at the expense of everyone else!
Actually, the Vatican is a sovereign country, with embassies and ambassadors, etc. So what he told you was true, from a certain point of view.
That being said, taking an isolationist approach to Israel (a fully functioning democracy) and the rest of the Middle East (not fully functioning democracies, far from it in fact) is incredibly naive.
"It is better to be feared than loved, if you cannot be both." – Machiavelli
And nothing says "elegance" quite like bowing (while exposing the back of your neck to the enemy).
What's a neocon?
I thought having the biggest, baddest battalions won wars and established peace. That, plus bombing your enemies back into the stone age.
Sorry, I don't trust a lot of the pajama-pants, flip-flop wearing folks I see jamming their crap into the overhead bins much more than I trust TSA screeners. Our "best defense" as you put it is hardly a defense at all. It is a response from frightened people trying to survive. We can and must do better. The best bet is to put THE ENEMY on the defensive instead of our own people.
You're like a sphere. NO point.
Al Qaeda's stated goal is to establish a worldwide Islamic state (caliphate), by force if necessary. Notable Wahhabi scholars, such as Sayyid Qutb, have declared that Western civilization is the enemy of Islam and as such should be destroyed. Or do you think I made that up? Bottom line: the Islamofascists want to destroy us because we exist. Period. No discussion. No negotiation.
Can you provide quotes from notable Jewish scholars stating similar goals?
Your views are naive. The world is a dangerous place. I suggest you man up, get a weapon and take your post, or get back in your corner and keep sucking your thumb. The barbarians are at the gate.
Al Qaeda’s Successful Attack by Lurita Doan:
WELL SAID! — AND, IT WASN'T HURT ANY BY THE ADMINISTRATION'S "ENCOURAGING" RESPONSES EITHER!
HOWEVER, DON'T EVER RULE-OUT OBAMA GOING TO WAR!!!
Yes, it has its own coinage too. It's a city-state. But not a "nation".
No, but they attack Phillipines, India, Australia etc. etc. The list goes on and on. There are very few problems in this world that do not involve muslims. They just do not know how to coexist.
It has got nothing to do with US or Israel.
I suspect that "Fonz" ,"Dhasselhoff" and "JohnnyKnox" are all the same person. The same TV-obsessed, kooky person…
… and the Titanic was unsinkable.
You should come to west Texas and see what we have done with wind. The wind corridor begins just south of Sweetwater and runs north all the way up the Panhandle and through Colorado. Thousands of wind stations as far as the eye can see run right along side of Hwy 84 to Lubbock, and then alongside of I-25 north. T. Boone Pickens who knows a little bit about energy production has gone all in, and his vision includes windmills running from Texas north into North Dakota. The next stage of the plan is a modern (and hardened) power grid to deliver wind power east and west to both coasts where the people live. His personal investment is in the billions and the future of wind is tremendous.
He wants to power electric cars with clean wind energy and large trucks with natural gas which burns cleaner than diesel and of which we also have an abundant supply in Texas.
Solar energy is also a player in desert areas like Arizona and Nevada where wind is unreliable. Probably not the direct electricity from solar panels like NASA uses, but solar driven steam turbine generators. It is not nonsense and is happening right now. This is the future of power production in our country.
Seriously Tread, really? Check out the googles…
I heard today also, that Continental air lines refused to let Joan Rivers on board a flight because, her passport said Joan (married name) aka Joan Rivers…seems that aka is a Muslim sur name! LOL!!
Are you dense? Their goal is to make everyone on earth a muslim. Remember pick up the Koran and read it, we are all non-believers. Here is the sad part, is that they actually enjoy killing each other.
Oh I see and if we do nothing then you will be complaining that the U.S. did nothing to help prevent Genocide. Arabs want to kill Jews. By the way have you ever been to the Middle East? I have Bihrain and Israel. Try going there sometime and you will see the difference. Very ignorant indeed.
It is Kind of like Monaco you idiot a principality.
"like trying to tell a liberal welfare doesn't help fix poverty. " Hey now you're talking like a true conservative. That is what I have been telling all the Libtards they just never seem to listen.
like trying to tell a liberal welfare doesn't help fix poverty. " Hey now you're talking like a true conservative. That is what I have been telling all the Libtards they just never seem to listen.
We knew about 9-11 before hand but did not act to stop it. We knew about the fort hood shooter before hand but did not act. We knew about this panty- bomber before hand but did not act. The US has amazing intelligence capability and does detect and stop terrorists all the time. We need to improve on that capability. And yes I agree, when we catch one they should be treated as an enemy and tried by the military and then shot. Terrorists are not like us. They are not afraid to die. The threat of arrest does not scare them into not being a terrorist. Going to war in attempt to eradicate them only strengthens their resolve and breeds the next generation of terrorists from the children that hate us for killing their fathers. Right or wrong, in their minds they are doing Gods work and are ready to die seeing it done. The problem is that we are destroying our way of life in a vain effort to FEEL safe. My point is that there is NO amount of security measures that will ultimately protect you. Body scanners? What if they hide it in an opening? Whats next; cavity searches for all passengers? Maybe they have a bomb surgically implanted. Would the next step be to subject all passengers to ultrasounds, maybe full body cat scans or MRIs, even exploratory surgery? How far will you be willing to go to FEEL safe?
"Thousands of wind stations as far as the eye can see" and all of them together cannot match the steady power output of one nuclear reactor that takes up one square mile. A phrase you should familiarize yourself with is "energy-flux-density."
The point is that we have the capacity to develop new technologies that produce more energy with fewer resources. The idea that we need to invest in millions of windmills in the hope of producing enough energy to maintain a level of subsistence acceptable to regressive, elitist scum is simply UNACCEPTABLE.
Humanity has come to a crossroad. We will either move forward into higher technology and human advancement, as the conservative movement desires. Or we will enter into an era of decline and regression, as the so-called "progressive" liberals have envisioned. That choice is ours.
And BTW, the "national power grid" is an idea who's time has passed. Local energy production is a far superior and more reliable goal to attain.
Amen, amen, amen, my American brother… You are being potlite when you refer to the TSA as chimps. The El Al security chief made a similar comment about the stupidity of our airline security. You would think that modelling after the success of the Israelis would prompt us into appropriate security action. But NO ! Not when you have politically correct incompetent imbeciles like Obama adn Napolitano. I no longer fly either. Some of you Americans or your family members will perish this year. Their blood will be on the hands of the aforementioned!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
So, what are we getting out of this besides monumental debt and fewer liberties?
India is a big supporter of Israel. Australia is, too, sending troop in the Zionist war effort.
Have you read the Talmud? The Chosen Ones….what does that make everyone else?
We are doing nothing to prevent the genocide of the Palestinians.

Personally I would rather die while going about my life freely, as opposed to living under the heavy govt hand of a police state meant to protect me from a statistically irrelevant terrorist threat.
More people die in the bath tub than die from terrorist attacks and yet the govt has enacted NO security regulations to insure your bathing safety.

Why are so obsessed with Brazil? If it makes you feel better Hezbullah and Hamas has a nice home in Venuezuela.
Bull hockey. Read up on Tripoli and the USS Enterprise (yes, there really was a tall sailing ship named the Enterprise.)
Go back to your KKK-White Supremecist cave. Youre only laughed at here.
Five new towers go up everyday, so if you want to stop wind, and the infrastructure to get it to consumers you better get started. You might find some support from a couple of coal states, but the rest of us are moving on.
The wind stations cannot be destroyed by one well placed bomb or a tornado or some other regional disaster. They also cannot meltdown if cooling is interrupted. They don't blow up.
But that being said, I still favor the development of nuclear power in this country. It has all the risks listed above plus the problem of storing nuclear waste, but it burns clean and doesn't emit carbon into the atmosphere. We have the technology to safely store the waste for several hundred years, and I believe that is more than enough time to develop a more permanent storage technology.
We agree that the choice is ours and our future depends on us making the right choices. It's all that stuff in the middle we can still fuss over. There is no longer a conservative movement. The right is dominated by science-hating evangelicals, teabaggers and neocons. Real conservatives are moving into the Democratic party for lack of a home in the Republican party. It is an uneasy fit, but you have to pick sides in a two party system.
Was that an explosion we heard or a guffaw?
Doesn't this prove YOU are naive – guess you didn't know about these….
"We will have a world government whether you like it or not. The only question is whether that government will be achieved by conquest or consent." (Banker Paul Warburg, February 17, 1950, as he testified before the U.S. Senate).
"The great ideal of Judaism is that the whole world shall be imbued with Jewish teachings, and that in a Universal Brotherhood of Nations a greater Judaism in fact all the separate races and religions shall disappear." (Jewish World, February 9, 1933)
"The League of Nations is a Jewish idea. We created it after a fight of 25 years. Jerusalem will one day become the Capital of World Peace." (Nahum Sokolow, During the Zionist Congress at Carlsbad in 1922)
"The Nations will exhort to tranquility. They will be ready to sacrifice everything for peace, but WE WILL NOT GIVE THEM PEACE until they openly acknowledge our International Super-Government, and with SUBMISSIVENESS." (Zionist Congress at Basle in 1897)
"As for the final result of the Messianic revolution it will always be the same…the nations will be converted to Judaism and will obey the law, or else they will be destroyed, and the Jews will be the masters of the world." (G. Batault, Le probleme juif, p. 135; The Secret Powers Behind Revolution, by Vicomte Leon de Poncins, pp. 203204)
Damn, you got your panties in a bind lol. I'm not a liberal, I'm a libertarian. I'm into freedom. Freedom to board a plane and know it's not going to blow up and freedom to go to bed at night knowing a cruise missile isn't going to land in my backyard. I just don't feel that being safe should be exclusive to us at the expense of others. there are a lot of people out there who couldn't give a rats ass about what America did right up until the hellfire took out Grandma. Boom, instant pissed off grandson looking for revenge, instead of waving his Gadsen flag and marching in the street he straps on a vest and marches off looking for the nearest GI's. My point is our actions have consequences.
Whether you want to see it that way or not is up to you.
Your patriotism is being played like a fiddle by the ones running the show. They couldn't give a crap about your safety or who they kill on the receiving end. They make money every time a bomb drops.
Young Muslim Men are screened about as good as Obama was screened by the former Main stream media, and the simplest, cheapest and most effective answer lies in profiling MUSLIM MEN, and then the airports will look like this …. http://tinyurl.com/yze3j8r
That's how they should'a looked after 911 through today. All these Muslims need to do to cost a city a couple million dollars is cause a security breech like this last failed attack and their work is done, as they try to bankrupt us which they're helping to do..
Now they don't even have to succeed to be a pain in the camels azz
Update about the Yon detention:

Thank-you for the link. Hard to believe that something this sensible could actually be printed in Boston.
Muslim fanatics want to kill us no matter what we do or don't do. There will ALWAYS be an excuse on their part. If it wasn't military action, it would be other support for Israel. If it wasn't that, it would be our decadent culture and the "westernization" of Islamic states' culture. If none of those, it would be some perceived slight or insult to Mohammed. If nothing else, it would be the mere fact that we are non-Muslims and are therefore fair game for conquest. If we were Muslims, we would be the wrong kind. No matter what, they want to kill us. They said so.
That's not a "nation". A city-state is something different. But hey- those are just facts. You go ahead and call things whatever you want to, dear. Just make up your own little world. Whatever makes you happy. "Cause it's all really about you, isn't it?
Solar requires water. Not easy to come by in the desert.
How many birds are those turbines killing every year? How will the noise affect those living nearby? Eventually, some people are going to have to have them built nearby.
Not to pooh-pooh solar and wind, but nuclear power is cleaner, quieter, safer.
Your anti-Semitic insanity crosses the border from outrageous to abhorrent.
The Muslims themselves have stated that their intention is to re-establish a Caliphate. It is ALSO they (along with the balck separatists) who say that it is Israel/the Zionists/Jews who want to "take over the world". The first is an example of a people stating THEIR goals, the second is an example of people stating (in full-blown paranoiac anti-Semitism) what they think someone ELSE's goals are.
"Le probleme Juif". That's awesome, Adolph. Shouldn't you head down to the bunker now?
My dad flew C-141's at the end of his career, which started with P-47's and included C-46's and C-123's (He was Air America at that point). I even flew in C-141's from Yakota to Utapao and back when I was 13. I was sad to see so many of them cut up in the boneyard in Tucson last time through.
That said, I would fly overseas at this point only if the job was good enough that I could fly a charter and avoid TSA entirely (As I do in the CONUS for corporate gigs). I'm not xenophobic – and I have no fear of flying, since I practically grew up in a Cabin Waco – but I do expect the travel system to respect me and treat me with dignity. When dignity and respect return to commercial air travel, I'll return to commercial air travel.
The fact that wind towers are being built does not in any way make it a wise use of financial resources. For the most part that is just one more example of government subsidies encouraging bad investment. Even T. Boone has stepped away from expanding his investment for lack of interest in building infrastructure for delivering that power.
I never mentioned coal, but since you did, we know that the majority of electricity produced in the US comes from burning coal. Investing in systems for collecting emissions from coal plants might be a good idea for the short term, as we massively expand our nuclear energy production.
I'll give you credit for supporting nuclear, but if we can safely store waste for "several hundred years" that will be plenty of time to develop even more high tech energy systems. Cold fusion perhaps?
Where you lose all credibility is when you say there is no "conservative movement." In fact there is currently coming a conservative tidal wave. It is the natural backlash to the current power play of the leftist statists in our present government. And you think that conservatives are moving into the democrat party? I won't ask you what you're smoking, but it must be really good stuff.
Finally, you lose all respect when you sink to the level of "name-calling." I'm on the right. I'm a conservative. And I don't appreciate any of your misrepresentations of my ideological brethren. We are the one's who will be carrying the human race into a better, brighter, and more technologically advanced future than could even be dreamed of by the "best of the left," those harbingers of misery, austerity, and repression.
Oh you idiot!. Can you not see they are SO AHEAD OF US??? We're not even thinking yet! And THEY are acting! Get a life!
You are absolutely correct.
I'm already prohibited from carrying a concealed weapon. Licensed in FL, I am essentially un-armed and defenseless in NY. Meanwhile, crime is rampant. Illegals drive drunk just like they did in Mexico. MS-13 operates around here. Safe? The gov't could start by getting out of MY way and letting me defend myself where, when and how I see fit. THEN they should get out of the military's way and let them fight a war however THEY (the generals) see fit. That's a start. Let people defend the borders instead of prosecuting American citizens or border patrol agents who do so. How about that? That's a start.
We thought you was just happy ta see us.
In the words of Susan Powter; "STOP THE INSANITY"
Just curious what would be your solution to the problem?
Here's mine. Quit buying their oil. We support these a-holes every time we fill up our tank. Without the oil money these countries aren't shit. We have our own oil and gas reserves. Let's use them. There are other non-Muslim countries that export oil. We choose to participate. We import oil they export hate. You can't kill them all. Our country is going broke trying to play world cop.
I'm starting to think it's like when you were a kid and somebody would do something wrong. Everybody else would be punished while the trouble maker got to stand there and watch. Like in the army when everybody does push ups because of one guy's screw up.
First, there is no "solution". Muslim terrorists will come after us NO MATTER WHAT. Again, if for nothing else than the fact that we are not Muslim. There may be all manner of excuses, but the real reason is that we're not Muslim.
Let's extract our own oil and gas. Let's keep getting smarter about energy consumption, recycling, refining amd delivery. Lets use ALL sources available, and instead of subsidizing what doesn't work, lets spend some money on R&D. How about tidal energy? Kinetics? Can we alter the standard 40-hr workweek to reduce demand? And all this NIMBY crap- if you live in a high-demand area, guess what? You get a nuclear plant/turbine farm/refinery/drilling nearby! You may get energy cost reductions, too, but it's not gonna be the poor and or the rural folks that always get the eyesores built near them.
Maybe he should just thump the Middle-East with his fist and go "Ayyyyyy!" like he does with the jukebox at Al's. That should fix everything.
Pinko commie liberals are one thing; jihadi terrorists are another.
They are like matter and anti-matter in that they cannot exist in the same place. They will ty to annihilate each other. Only the stripe of the commie pinko can determine how badly the Muslim jihadis will defeat them.
So, the terrorists are right! I knew it!
I have neighbors with windmills in their backyards. They are not loud and they are not a danger to the birds. Most of them run along highways for access and are not in populated areas. The bird argument is a coal-fired red herring.
Don't kid yourself. There are entire cities in the desert (Phoenix and Las Vegas spring to mind) and they have access to water. Pipelines can be constructed and water moved to where ever it is needed. It's happening as we speak.
Your objections on wind power are based on misinformation. But like I said, I support nuclear too. Both produce pollution free power. If you oppose wind power in Texas you are a bit late. We have already decided to go with it.
You can not deny that Jews have stated they want to take over the world….and seem to be doing it with the US nearly used up fighting their wars for Israel in the Middle East. But mostly it has been done through banking cartels like the Rothschilds. How many Federal Reserve Chiefs of the US (with 2% Jew population) have been Jews? How many board members? How many Senators are now? Congressmen? Supreme Court justices. Owners and operators of major media? ……now how many are Muslim.
You seem blind to the real threat – how does one get so cowed as you are?
If your dad flew P-47s then he is a great American. And lucky to have lived through a golden age in Aviation. I spent my first 3 years in C-141s and spent most of my career in bombers: Strategic Air Command and later Air Combat Command. My 141 service was at Charleston AFB in SC, so if your dad was there in the late 70s our paths may have crossed. Charleston was a huge eastern MAC hub and the base was home to three active duty flying squadrons and three reserve squadrons. I was assigned to the 41st MAS if your dad is around to ask about it.
I feel your pain and don't fly commercially overseas anymore unless it can't be avoided. I tolerate the inconvenience because air travel is the front line on terror and we can not let the bad guys win. Not now, not ever.
Except in the latter case, the point is to encourage "lateral discipline". Your buddies do NOT want to do extra push-ups because of you, and you do NOT want them to hate you, so you get yourself in line. Here, what the government has done to us is disarmament (because they don't trust us non-criminals to be able to think and obey the laws), with the promise of protecting us. And, when it comes down to brass tacks, they FAIL to protect us. All I can do is try to get more effective, less unreliable people elected. And try to punish truly negligent gov't officials through the courts.
We can always sell the Texas windmills to China. Oh, never mind, they're not that dumb.
Pickens is committed to 700 turbines in the next two years. He will build more as the infrastructure is constructed to handle it. He is the most visible, but not the only person in west Texas building wind farms. But they are up against cheap coal fired plants and will need a commitment from government to complete the grand vision.
Cold fusion was a hoax. I don't know if it was intentional but I do remember the excitement in the 1980s when it was introduced … for about a week. Once the literature got out into the scientific community it didn't stand up to the peer review scrutiny.
When the right stop calling us the "Democrat Party" I'll let go of teabagger. But until then, they have it coming. I do not to put the label on individuals, but if I put it out there and one of them crawls under it then I don't know what to tell them. Get some thicker skin I guess.
Very few of us go blogging looking for soul mates.
You know what? I think you hate Jews. I think you're one of those Truther / Inside Job freaks, and so you can NEVER have any credibility with me. And you know what else? If I had to choose between converting to Islam or death, I think I'd choose death. If I had to choose between converting to Judaism or death, I'd choose Judaism. I'd be a Jew-for-Jesus, though. Couldn't do that as a Muslim. Wouldn't have many rights as a Muslim, either. Jesus was Jewish. Hate Jesus too if you want; that's your problem.
As for the "real" threat; I can hardly tell what's worse some days. Muslim hate or liberal hate.
Has anyone looked at the speeches by Osama Bin Laden? The ones that the Bush administration tried so hard to block from being released? The solution to terrorism is simple: withdraw our troops. Bin Laden said that he planned 9/11 because of Bush Sr.'s attack in the 80's. We started the war. The media has tried so hard to make it seem like they want to kill Americans because they are jealous of our freedom. They want to kill us because of our policies-the policies that conservatives enact. Bush invaded Iraq just to benefit his oil companies, that is why Al-Qaeda hated America even more. They hate us because we let our President murder, rape, and torture innocent women and children in Iraq. America needs to get over this "greatest society since the Roman Empire" and stay out of foreign affairs by stop invading other countries on a whim; look at the consequences. Conservatives are the cause of terrorism and they are getting us killed.
BTW again look at Osama's speeches, his plan is to bleed America into bankruptcy by engaging in an endless war. Look at our economy. His plan is working. Wake up America.
Dad retired in '72 after 30 years, figuring WW II, Korea, and Vietnam were enough, and Vietnam was being wound down. He was flying out of McChord when he was in 141's, but his last gig was as Station Traffic Officer of Yakota. He also flew T-33's and was an Instructor Pilot at the USAF Academy, which is my first memory. I was actually born in Newfoundland when he was stationed there supplying the NORAD bases in… L-20's? Big single engine stick-and-rudder job that had floats or skis depending. Anyway, yeah; dad was a hell of a guy in a generation filled with a lot of hell of a guys. Unfortunately, he's not around to talk about this stuff anymore.
Yes I have and it is no where near the Koran. At least it doesn't teach Jews to kill Christians.
They're killing themselves.
I know we are dropping bombs on them, but I don't recall us killing them before they choose not to convert from Islam to Christianity.
Thank you Don't Tread! Can't stand these Jew Hating azzholes.
Have you ever been to Israel? I have and they are very kind. They treat Americans better than in other places I have been to.. Italy, Spain, Turkey, Greece, Bahrain, Portugal even Mexico!! I also had a great time and by the way it is a Beautiful country. It is so funny you quoting something like what 100 years ago? Please your argument has no teeth and shows you intolerant towards a race.
Now all arabs are not bad, but the majority have issues. Which means the bad ones make the good look bad it is sad but true.
I think your Messiah wants to take over the world with his dumbass policies. I think your pissed because a Jew took a job that you wanted. Instead of trying for another your riding the welfare wagon.
I didn't know Obama was Jewish? But I know he is Muslim.

Sorry to hear that your dad is gone. Our WWII vets are quickly leaving us and it is sad.
I once worked with an older DOD employee who was a B-17 flight engineer and top turret gunner during the war. I was always bugging him to tell me stories but he was kind of tight lipped about his experience, a common trait among those guys I would later learn. But one day he told me that he had to bail out of two aircraft fatally damaged in combat. So I asked him, "Were you scared"? He said, "Well, the first time I didn't know enough to be scared, but I was the second time". After his death I learned from his wife that on that "second time", at age 21 he was the oldest man on his crew of 10… and the only one to survive.
She /could/ have been given a stuffed toy loaded with explosives, or drugs. I think that both have happened.
I'm a little baffled about her being required to turn on the Furby as there is so much padding in there that could be replaced with explosives without impeding the function.
I follow your argument, and I don't disagree with you but I do have one question. If they're coming after us simply because we're not muslim then why is it that countries like Canada, Mexico, Japan, and Australia for example aren't being targeted? They're all first world nations with similar values to ours. I'm sure you could chalk them up as 'infidel' nations. Could it be because they more or less mind their own affairs?
I do agree with you on the energy part. A country as strong as ours could greatly reduce our dependence on foreign oil if we wanted to. I travel to Brazil about once a year. And it's remarkable to see a developing country that has embraced alternative fuels. You can go to the pump and get gasoline, natural gas or alcohol. And most of the cars run on more than one. And the most ridiculous part is that a lot of the 'flex fuel' cars are American! Brazil is entirely energy independent. And that's one of the main reasons things have been improving down here. If they can pull it off why can't we?
we need to get out of the middle east all together, bring our troops home. And quit spending money there. If the middle east didn't have oil we wouldn't be there. Invest in America, find ways to be energy independent and to hell with the middle east….the terrorist problem would solve itself
If we didn't run around like Chicken Little screaming "The sky is falling, the sky is falling" every time some terror attempt turned out to be unsuccessful, it wouldn't be a victory for Al Qaeda.
Canada and Mexico are portals to the US. It would hardly do the terrorists good to terrorize those countries and cause a clampdown in immigration on their borders and ours. The Mexican border is a complete joke and the Mexicans are occupied with their drug wars, not illegal border crossings. The Canadian border is not much better as far as security goes, but they aren't as bad as Mexico. Japan has a pretty indigenous population, Muslims stick out like sore thumbs there and have more trouble blending in despite the Japanese cultural habit of politely keeping to themselves and not pointing at strangers. They are also non-militaristic after the whole WWII incident, and have instead concentrated their industry on commercial enterprises. Australia IS being targeted.
Sad to say, there really is little anyone can do about an entity determined to commit acts of terror. As Lurita Doan pointed out, terrorists could easily ignite explosives among a crowd of waiting passengers. I'm sure everyone is also aware that terrorists could easily explode bombs by remote control in practically any town or city in the world….No need for anybody to commit suicide….We see car bombs blowing up in the Middle East…why is it that this sort of thing seldom happens in the United States? Terrorists could effectively shut down any city they choose…or the entire nation….
All of these liberal racists and haters need to be called out for what they are and shamed if they have any decency at all. Guys like that used to belong in little clubs called the SS and the Werewolves, and they wore spiffy little uniforms and killed a lot of good people. Now they call hard-working American people "Nazis" while stifling free speech and stealing democracy. Don't let them think you don't know who and what they really are.
2700+ feet tall – that's half a mile isn't it.. just wonderin; could it qualify for the tower of babal

It is better to be feared than loved, if you cannot be both. – Machiavelli
Isaiah 60:12 "For the nation and kingdom that will not serve Israel shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted."
Political Correctness: The premise that it is entirely feasible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
They have been. The U.S. helped Israel to achieve a state in 1948 since then the terrorists has been at us.
Light the fuse.
No, I seriously want Dhas to tell me what a "neocon" is. There are many different definitions, depending on who is throwing the term around. I want to know hiow Dhass defines it since he is using it.
sshhhh… damn.
you realize they'll have to enforce those regulations don't ya.
Really? So Israel is to blame for the Barbary Pirates?
Because there's a difference between restricting people based solely on their color and restricting people who have repeatedly said they want to kill every last one of you and keep trying to kill your people.
I'd call you stupid and say you cannot see that, but something tells me you're just a hateful little twit who refuses to see that because it gives you an excuse to rail against those awful icky Joooooooos.
You can not deny that Jews have stated they want to take over the world.
I deny it. So there.
Feed them to the crocodile and hope it gets full? Throw them off the troika to slow down the wolves?
You are a disgusting creature. Part of me hopes you have the same fate as your spiritual predecessor. Cut off in a bunker, doomed to have a movie scene featuring one of your last tirades used in countless parodies. A laughingstock. Hopefully a video recording of it will exist so historical accuracy will make it even easier to mock.
But no, that would require an incredibly costly war. May you die old and alone… with no one following your poison ever again.
I'm not Jewish, but I would tend to think that the reason there are so many Jewish people with successful careers in business and government is because as a culture they raise their children to get an education and reach for high goals, and they look poorly on failure. Of course, there might also be an evil Jewish plot by a Zionist cabal to take over the world and force us all to wear yamulkas and watch Woody Allen flicks. Yours isn't the first toaster to start talking that kind of nonsense, and it probably won't be the last.
Feigned outrage over our support for Israel is just a smokescreen, something to get sympathetic Lefties and other anti-semites within our borders to do their propaganda work for them.
Judging from the "blame the JEWS" folks posting here, it works.
"So after we abandon the Israelis to extermination, what then?"
Celebrate. Count the money we save.
Would you like your share in pieces of silver, or Danegeld?
Enh, I dislike either/or fallacies. The whole convert or die thing makes me want a third option: kill the people trying that method of conversion.
Judaism, fortunately, is not one of the religions known for using that method of conversion.
You aren't blind to the real threat. People like "The_Fonz" are part of the threat.
Meddling in Israel and many Arab countries, nanny stating the world so to speak, creates side affects, like blowback as defined by the CIA.
We know we shouldn't nanny state health care, but somehow people want to ram nanny state down others countries. It's wrong and it has side affects.
No denying blowback as defined by the CIA, and you highlight a few classic examples.
The United States government loves Muslims. They love Saudi Arabi, they love the down trodden Muslims in Kosovo, they love sending your money to Pakistan.
Many problems exist that do not involve Muslims, a weakening dollar that threatens national security more than a single under bomber for one example.
Nanny stating other countries? You mean like when Obama tells Israelis that they shouldn't build more settlements in their own country? That sort of thing?
The U.S. government loves supporting Muslims in Kosovo, Saudi, Pakistan. They love sending your dollars overseas to give the Afghan police officers pay raises.
Does the government have a love hate relationship with Muslims or do they just like to fool around?
The US helped radicalize the Taliban when the Russians invaded Afghan. Now we are witnessing unintended side effects from BIG GOVERNMENT
Black drug gangs in inner cities enjoy killing each other as well.
Just because they have that goal doesn't mean we need to help them along by propping up Pakistan, Afghan, and Saudi, and protecting the minority muslim population in Kosovo.
Nanny stating the world doesn't work and has unintended consequences.
End your love affair with Muslims tread, it is unhealthy and creates problems. No more money to Pakistan, no more money and troops in Kosovo coddling Muslims, no more paying for police officer pay raises in Afghan. No more money to Israel.
It's big government nanny stating the world.
That doesn't justify killing millions of women and children around the world in the name of safety. 2973 or so deaths in the world trade center bombing is miniscule. 40,000 die on the highways every year.
We are doing exactly what the Muslim terrorists want us to do. It's time to change strategy.
I think the CIA helped define it. It's called BLOWBACK.
Anyway so what if they are unhappy, it doesn't require the United States government to do exactly what they want by wasting trillions over a few thousand deaths in a bombing.
It's simple. Israeli's don't really give a crap about political correctness, and THAT my friends, is the weakness of the West.

mikatollah act of contrition…
I want to thank the nice folks on biggovernment.com for sharing their time and ideas with me for these past few weeks as I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. I try and conduct myself with proper respect and a sence of humor, and not get drawn into flame wars that always seem to generate a life of their own.
I know I have offended many of you with my use of the term "teabagger". It seemed harmless at first when I believed this list was filled with knuckleheads. I justified it by telling myself and others that it's ok because others do it. But I was wrong. There are many good people here who love their country and are just as passionate about their politics as I.
So to all of you I give my heartfelt apology and hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive. I want to assure you that the word will never pass my lips again, either while blogging or in my personal life. The word is dead to me.
I'm not going anywhere and I look forward to future debates. And just a note, you are going to see this post several times because I am going to post it everywhere I find someone that I know I particularly offended.
