Teamsters Win 2010 ‘Most Decertified Union’ Award
by LaborUnionReportWith their pension plans about ready to implode (no wonder they’re clamoring for a union pension bailout), a union boss who was just dumped by his top running mate, and with hundreds of members out on strike, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters can now add one more thing to their pot of bad luck: The union just won the 2010 Most Decertified Union Award.
Every year for the past five years, Union Free America (one of a handful of websites that is committed to helping employees maintain their independence) gives out its Most Decertified Union Award and this year’s award winner (or loser, as the case may be) is the International Brotherhood of Teamsters:
Teamsters Union Wins 2010 Most Decertified Union Award
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is the winner of Union Free America’s 5th Annual “Most Decertified Union Award.” This honor is awarded to the labor union that lost the most decertification elections during the preceding 12 months.
The judging was based on an analysis of the reports of election results on the National Labor Relations Board’s web site for the period August 2009 through July 2010. During that time the NLRB conducted 251 decertification elections. Employees seeking to rid themselves of a union won 157 or 63 percent of them.
The Teamsters union won the “Most Decertified Union Award” by being decertified 48 times during that period. The Teamsters were involved in a total of 64 decertification elections of which they lost 75 percent.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) came in a distant second by being decertified in 9 out of 15 elections, or 60 percent.
The International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) won honorable mention by being decertified 8 times. This may seem paltry compared to the Teamsters, but IUOE deserves recognition for being decertified in 8 out of 8 elections.
The Teamsters outstanding performance was not enough to help the Change to Win federation edge out the larger AFL-CIO in the competition. AFL-CIO unions participated in 99 decertification elections and lost 69 of them while the Change to Win unions participated in a total of 101 decertification elections, but lost only 60 of them.
Colorful certificates commemorating these achievements have been sent to the Teamsters, Food and Commercial Workers and Operating Engineers unions.

In order to win an award of this nature means that unionized workers in workplaces across America were brave enough to educate themselves about the complicated nature of union decertification, gather signatures from their co-workers, likely withstand union harassment and legal wrangling before, finally, exercising their right to vote the union out.
This is particularly noteworthy as President Obama’s union-controlled National Labor Relations Board considers ways to make it more difficult for workers to decertify unions.
The National Labor Relations Board, in 3-to-2 decisions, has granted review and invited interested parties to file briefs in two sets of cases that question when a labor union’s support among employees can be challenged.
One set of cases (Rite Aid Store #6473 and Lamons Gasket Co.) asks the newly-constituted Board to reconsider the 2007 decision in Dana Corp., 351 NLRB 434. In that decision, the Board majority held that when an employer agrees to voluntarily recognize a union based on signed authorization cards, it must post a notice advising the employees that they have a right, within 45 days of the notice, to file a petition for an election to decertify the union or in support of a rival union, if they so desire. If the notice is not posted, the union and employer may not later claim that their contract bars a petition by a rival union or for decertification.
As the union-controlled NLRB is likely to rule however the unions want it to, it is likely that agency will establish rules making it more difficult for workers who are newly unionized to file for decertification in the manner described above.
So, in the meantime, congratulations to all those workers out there who helped the Teamsters earn this award! You’ve overcome obstacles, as well as saved yourself hundreds of dollars per year in union dues.

The problem isn't the union workers, most are like you and me, the problem is the union bosses. Most seem to fit the Mafia mold, and they will do anything to stay in control so they can line their pockets.
If the workers can freely vote the union in, they should be able to freely vote the union out.
We need to contact these employees and invite them to organize the Tea Party into a union that demands lower taxes, both corporate and personal, and less government regulation. Demands an immediate tax write down for infrastructure spending, zero taxes on the health care industry; hospitals, doctors, nurses, medical devices, insurance, drugs ect….
Let's all join the smaller government union.
I would dare say, most likely there are many in their local Tea Party.
Likely so, maybe even reading me saying thank you to them??
Thanks Y'all
This is great news.
Less union money for spending on elections of Dems
I would like to see the public employee unions decertified,,,,but it will never happen,,,,voluntarily. Their employer (US) don't get to negotiate their benefits and pay raises,,,,,we are stuck having to accept the decisions of the politicians whom are owned by the union.
THIS IS A TRAVESTY to the whole concept of equitable negotiating, and we are the ones getting screwed!
Unions offer no real bargain in the market and can only be sustained by government interference as the outcomes are always the same:
(i) total employment goes down.
(ii) total profitability goes down.
(iii) productivity goes down.
(iv) capital base is eroded.
And the final outcome is the failure of the company. Anyone with a brain can see what happens when the union plague comes into town. Just like the Black Plague before it, the result is a complete shutdown of society as people seek to shield themselves from the horrible death the union plague leaves in its wake. Slums, deserted factories, long unemployment lines, bloated government spending and corruption that decimate cities and towns throughout the Rust Belt where it has infected the largest number of populations.
When the union plague comes to your town do yourself a favor and sell your house and move on before your town becomes Detroit.
Do you know what the difference between Detroit and Zimbabwe is?
The UN hopes Zimbabwe will eventually recover.
OT: a reporter ask propaganda minister Baghdad Bob Gibs if Obama even knew what liberation theology was LOL Baghdad Bob said Beck made up his own facts or something along those lines…..but word is getting out, that is the important thing, the light is beginning to lift the darkness.
Yes, but are they a certified most decertified union? Most of them are certifiable………Or are they decertifiable? Hmmmm, I may be pondering this for a while.
I'm surprised that the afl-cio didn't take top spot with this brickbat trumka as a leader

The guy is a certifiable socialist.
Congratulations! Couldn't have been a better choice to win that award!
Unions – Knucklehead thugs……
When JFK signed executive order 10988 in 1962, allowing government employees the ability too unionize, he doomed any chance of fiscal discipline. Repeal Executive Order:10988!
Another victory for grass root Americans against those who are trying to destroy America. And with OSHA, EPA, DOJ, and hordes of trial lawyers hovering just out of sight, why, again, do we have unions?
Call, fax, E-mail your representatives in congress to prevent "card check" from becoming law. It destroys the secret ballot

It really is bad, and it will surely affect your pocketbook on everything you purchase.
Those Teamster guys are gonna be pissed off when they get back to work, after the non-union picketers have all gone home.
Say Amen somebody!
I guess some people see that it will just get harder to get rid of the union, so they are doing it now.Congress has a very low aproval rating, and these unions are in bed with them…ya think the workers are starting to see the crooks for the trees?
StanH's idea of repealing 10988 combined with a national right to work law would fix this problem.
It would be great for UPS and CostCo could throw off the shackles of the Teamsters.
Both the workers and the companies would benefit by driving these criminals from their workplace.
De-claw and dismantle the obsolete Unions and restore free choice to America!
I second that AMEN!!!
The unions have most definitely outlived their usefulness… Time for them to go away…
My grandfather was a railroad union man when it was dangerous. My dad was a physician but a union sympathizer all of his life. I venerate them both but today they'd be against the kind of unionization that erodes the health of the country. Patriots first and always. My dad in WWII. Granddad died before he could serve.

The unions were slowly hijacked by the socialists (at the top)…mostly completed in 1995.
Congrats to some real heros for throwing out the union.
Didn't have any idea that the unions got decertified that much. FIgured it never happened due to how hard it is. I guess its still pretty rare for people to ditch their unions. Figured most of the lowering numbers of union members was due to job disappearing. Good news to hear people can get out without losing their jobs. Numbers of freed people will undoubtedly fall during the Obama regime.
I bet that these guys who got the union decertification procedures rolling went through some heavy crapstorms. Kudos to them for having the "stones" to see it through.
The Unions most evil of all? Federal Employee unions as well as any State Employee Unions. These monsters need to be slain. They produce nothing, they consume untold treasure. They work off the backs of the citizens taxes. For time on end we have been told they are public servents, but in reality they are tyrants who demand the public serve them and their every whim. The average salary at the Federal Level now exceeds 120, 000.00 dollars vs. the salary of 60,000.00 dollars in the private sector. These union need to be banned.
Congrats, Teamsters! Keep up the good work. And all you other unions too!
That's for sure! I'm sure it wasn't fun to deal with the union thugs that were undoubtedly sent to stop them.
