Context Is Everything. NAACP’s Jealous ‘Snookered’ Himself
by LaborUnionReportContext is everything.
As the Left (including the NAACP) has tried to brand the Tea Party movement as ‘racists’ over the last year, they’ve engaged in racial politics at their worst using the tactics of Saul Alinsky to try to “pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it” [see Alinsky Power Tactic #13].

Now that the very same tactic has been brilliantly used on the NAACP (and unintentionally caught the White House in the net as well), they’re attempting to pose as victims to some nefarious trickery. The flaw in their argument though is that they did it to themselves.
The fact is, those who capriciously take words out of context for political purposes were warned about “context” at the beginning of Breitbart’s Monday post, were never told that Ms. Sherrod caused harm to the farmers (except through Ms. Sherrod’s own words), and were even given the proper context:
In the first video, Sherrod describes how she racially discriminates against a white farmer. She describes how she is torn over how much she will choose to help him. And, she admits that she doesn’t do everything she can for him, because he is white. Eventually, her basic humanity informs that this white man is poor and needs help. But she decides that he should get help from “one of his own kind”. She refers him to a white lawyer.
The problem for both the NAACP and the White House was that they took it out of context on their own and reacted as any victim of an Alinsky-style tactic might—by overreacting. However, in so doing, they also threw Shirley Sherrod under their bus. In other words, they got beaten at their own game, with their own bat, and they chose the politically expedient way out of it.
That was their fault, not Breitbart’s.
He just facilitated them getting caught in their own hypocrisy. [Alinsky Power Tactic # 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”]
The funny thing is, according to Tuesday’s statement issued by the NAACP’s Benjamin Jealous, it’s now all Fox News and Andrew Breitbart’s fault that the NAACP and the White House got ’snookered’ and Ms. Sherrod became an inconvenient speed bump:
With regard to the initial media coverage of the resignation of USDA Official Shirley Sherrod, we have come to the conclusion we were snookered by Fox News and Tea Party Activist Andrew Breitbart into believing she had harmed white farmers because of racial bias.
Having reviewed the full tape, spoken to Ms. Sherrod, and most importantly heard the testimony of the white farmers mentioned in this story, we now believe the organization that edited the documents did so with the intention of deceiving millions of Americans.
The NAACP’s after-the-fact back pedaling can’t hide the fact that they knew there was a contextual problem and they still condemned her (and the audience) anyway, making her the roadkill on their path to demonize average Americans.
Here is Jealous’ statement on Monday, proving he knew there was more to the story and still proceeded with the condemnation her anyway:
Her actions were shameful. While she went on to explain in the story that she ultimately realized her mistake, as well as the common predicament of working people of all races, she gave no indication she had attempted to right the wrong she had done to this man.
The reaction from many in the audience is disturbing. We will be looking into the behavior of NAACP representatives at this local event and take any appropriate action.
Context is everything, Mr. Jealous. You knew the context of Ms. Sherrod’s comments on the tape and you still condemned her anyway when the White House forced her resignation.

So Jealous condemns her, the regime fires her, and yet Andrew is the big bad guy for pointing and saying the NAACP should clean house before inventing bogus charges of racism against the Tea Party.
Wow… you should be ashamed of yourselves for manipulating words and creating stories when there are none. Foul. Simply foul.
Sherrod is a problem. She resigned and her resignation was Accepted. If she finnagles a return, she will still face her Pigsford shakedown stories in public.
In my opinion, the NAACP would NOT allow a non racist person to speak to them.
I can't name a wreck that went under the bus and was yanked out and sent to rehab. Can't she just re carreer at Climate Progress with Convicted felon Soros like the other under "friends unda da bus" fraternity?
Yes, the NAACP's accusations against the Tea Party, based on non-existent non-evidence, and fueled by evident race-based resentment, is indeed foul.
Please don't feed the troll.
I have been a loyal fan of Fox News and Big Government for over three years. Now comes the revelation that these two entities have not been honest. That is not good Breitbart. Selective editing is a poor way to get an honest message. Now I have no news source that I consider trustworthy.
You can rest easy. The only source posting deliberately edited (IOW, manipulated) video, is the NAACP.
Also, the NAACP and the regime are the only sources of condemnation, here.
A race card, a terrible thing to waste.
There was a time when the NAACP stood for something. Advancement of colored people was a noble goal — Now they throw their lot in with the party of slavery, KKK, Jim Crow and segregation. They watch as education programs for inner city children get thrown in the union maw, and the colored people are put on the new slave plantation of welfare forever … How does that happen.
They are nothing like the vision of MLK laid at their feet. Sad.
Umm… that whistling sound you're hearing? It's a clue flying right past you…
The real lesson learned here is seeing how dangerous it is to throw around the term "racist".
Who manipulated words? Who created a "story"? AB presented information without altering. And the clue that zipped by you….Ms. Sherrod wasn't the star of the show. NAACP's hypocrisy and racism stole the show. Sherrod's tire tracks on her back…Odumbo and Jealous
Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. This was a quite brilliant trap laid to show the hypocrisy that is the NAACP and it's condemnation of the Tea Party.
Besides, anyone that talks of referring a white farmer to "one of his own kind" deserves everything they get, regardless of the context! Can you imagine the field day the LSM would have had if a white person had said that about a black farmer?
If you're going to make an omelette you have to break a few eggs.
This all proves that if HATE is your friend and corruption is your tool, then you will have a very unfulfilled and meaningless life.
Unfortunately for millions of black Americans, they have fallen prey to the NAACP's vile racism, hook, line and sinker.
I listened to the video of Sherrod for the first time in the middle of the night last night (darned insomnia again!) She sounded to me like a gloating power hungry slave owner maybe from the 1800's. She has a 'god' complex and had no qualms about persecuting an elderly man ( I realize this was 24 years ago, but he was still a 'seasoned citizen as Rush says') based on not being like 'her own kind.' It would be interesting to know the dollar figures she with held because he is white.
White women didn't have much in the way of freedom in the 1800's and you don't see me focusing on the past and using it to become a victim and demanding reparations. Can we please get over slavery once and for all?!
It's like napalm. It's why the left uses it so much.
…
And that's the reason Andrew wears Nomex sport jackets.
What I don't understand is how just because she went on to at least partially reconcile the error of her ways in the speech, it still doesn't excuse the many racist phrases she used and racist ideals she espoused throughout the entire speech. Nor does it excuse the laughter and approval of the NAACP audience which was the real object of the video release in the first place…
Why are so many people apologizing for her now? Because she's not AS racist as originally believed? Being LESS of a racist doesn't make you 'not a racist'.
Breitbart informed people that she had a change of heart in the original post, but nobody decided to pay attention to that, which is no fault of Breitbart.
Hahahaha…I love it, keep up the good work Andrew!
Considering the source of that quote, it would be an apt motto for the American left.
Anyone know Latin?
I too took the article out of context. But for some reason–maybe because I'm on vacation and away from my usual discussion partners–I didn't discuss it with anyone. People have to learn Breitbart's M.O. His intentions when making these disclosures are not always what you would first seem. This is what news should be, presented in a frank manner to allow the consumer to form his or her own opinion for discussion and development. And Breitbart shouldn't be lambasted for his techniques which are simply a refinement of many of the same strategies used in long-standing "well-respected" news programs such as Sixty Minutes.
The issue with politics is that no one wants to take responsibility – everything is someone else's fault. The reality is that most of the time it's a LOT of people's fault, and this is no exception. Breitbart's mistake was latching onto an out of context speech in order to try and prove a point he as trying to make about racism in the NAACP. Fox made a mistake in broadcasting it without doing any due dlligence in checking up on the veracity of the claims. And the NAACP and the administration continued the mistakes by forcing this woman to resign. Wouldn't it be nice if any of those people would admit that they messed up? But no, I guess pointing fingers outward is a lot easier, and it continues in this story. Sad.
Keep them twisting in the wind Andy there is a gail coming in November
Pay attention to the whole story or zip it. Beck and Fox are so up their butts that they fire people before Beck or Fox publicly says a word about it…hahahahahahahaha.
Sir Andrew Breitbart: American Baddass.
A true "gotcha" moment for Andrew! The NAACP and the White House got tripped up by their own racism bias and are looking to point a finger at someone, ANYONE, other than themselves! As for Sherrod, she is just another victim of the "under the bus" gang, although she seems to have, or at least had, some race issues of her own! Sad circumstances for this "post racial" administration, huh?
If you've not figured it out by now who is reporting solid facts and truth you never will. By your post it seems you've just been waiting for an excuse to post something like this. A fence sitter quite possibly. Even when the writting is on the wall some can't see it.
Ms. Sherrod is a racist, and she used racism as a criteria of to whom to give aid in her own words. If she later fixed the issue, she should be commended for doing so. But her first actions were wrong, and the NAACP applauded this wrong action.
David Duke also condemned racism after being in the KKK.
The NAACP is throwing stones at a fevered pace, but they still have a house of glass. I commend them for having finally done the right thing by denouncing the New Black Panther Party. And I ask that the tea party continues to denounce the concept of racial supremacy.
What are you crying at us about? It was Obama that fired this woman, not Breitbart. You aren't questioning Obama, are you? Because it's been clinically proven that people who question Obama are racists.
………..and we need to know your year of birth …..why?
If we are to cut off all history past the date of your birth,…….shazaaaammmm………so the uncivil
CIVIL WAR never happened???…………..oh that would mean slavery in the USA never happened???
Way Cool dude/dudette,,,,,,,,,,,,REVISE HISTORY MUCH?
GOD where is anon, …………..these trolls need some instruction
Prove it. With facts, not emotions, please.
"Show me where Andrew investigated this tape prior to releasing it?"
Show me where he didn't
He didn't seem quite in control of his faculties.
Hey Sooth I almost fell out of my chair and I spilled some coffee. That was a good one. Oh wait were you serious? Please check the meaning of slander per Webster:
Slander
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English sclaundre, slaundre, from Anglo-French esclandre, alteration of escandle, from Late Latin scandalum stumbling block, offense — more at scandal
Date: 14th century
1 : the utterance of false charges or misrepresentations which defame and damage another's reputation
2 : a false and defamatory oral statement about a person — compare libel
Therefore in order for it to be slander, Breitbart would have had to have said something false about Mrs. Sherrod. If you go back and check the posting you will see that Mrs. Sherrod does all the talking. Maybe she could sue herself for Slander???
Urgent message from the 57th state!
lol Well, the tea party has been exposing themselves even further thus far. Andrew Barfbart has been exposed, and is being blasted on every network (including a few on Fox News). And here are the idiot supporters struggling to support their idiot leader. If it wasn't enough for you all to make fools of yourselves, here's a racist death threat from another tea partier. lol @ you all exposing yourselves!!!
http://www.naacp.org/blog/entry/naacp-receives-de...
Nice try. It's truly comical seeing the right wing media clones in this country fall over themselves trying to rationalize this character assassination. This whole thing was framed so that it looked like a federal official (who just happened to be the same skin color of the POTUS) was in the habit of treating white people as inferiors. Feeding the narrative that Obama and co. in the NAACP are racist against white people. You're not fooling anybody. The fact that you're not willing to apologize to Ms. Sherrod shows that at long last, Conservative America continues to have no shame. While I agree that Vilsack and other USDA officials responsible for this disgrace should apologize and perhaps even be fired (should be up to Ms. Sherrod), there's no doubt that the conservative idiots responsible for spreading vicious lies about this woman should at the very least apologize and lose all credibility to any thinking person. and you wonder why the Republicans are being relegated to poorly educated, 65+ racist white people.
you're brainwashed. you can't stand hearing anyone with differing views. wake up.
and that ringing- that's the clue phone…don't think Mr Watkins is gonna answer it, however…too busy watching the clues do a fly by past his "tower"…
umm…don't think that's sand
but then, you seem far more polite than I am lol
your type of trolling is a well known tactic… my response to your comment is BS
what does your rant have to do with the fact that those listening were agreeing with what she had done?
when they are not blaming Bush!!
The word 'racists' is used so much it is becoming useless..now, EVERYONE is a racists…hmmm, doesn't that make us all even!?
Uh..hello? Do you NOT watch Fox News?? They did apologize for airing the edited version of the tape! However, there is MUCH more to this story, and I don't think that the NAACP or the White House are going to like it!
Trust me, she is no victim….the NAACP made a 'victim' out of her for a reason…there is much more to this story and the NAACP and the White House are not going to be happy when it is aired!
Andrew Baitbart…..you racist bastard! You got caught with your pants down!!! Ms. Sherrod can sued your racist ass for trashing her GREAT NAME!!!! I hope that she takes you to the cleaners!!
Urgent message from the 57th state!
Remember to point and laugh!
Amen k_d_i.
This woman is still a blatant racist, as is the NAACP.
Lets wait for the other shoe to drop on this woman as more info. comes to light about her.
Now that she's been apologized to and offered her job back, they own her, along with all the new revelations that will be uncovered.
Checkmate.
Well played Mr. Breibart.
absolutely nothing..that is them not her, she was talking about her redemption and if it helped those in the audience to be better human beings in the future, good, if not, that is their failing. it goes both ways with the race issue
What I chuckle about is the fact that it was a tape of an NAACP event and they (the NAACP) had the whole tape the entire time. Yet they STILL overreacted and threw her under the bus! What a bunch of morons! Then they come out and say "oh wait, we've now reviewed the whole tape and we spoke too soon". They were just trying to show how "even handed" they were in their dealing with race issues. I call bullshyte on the whole group! They have become the Black wing of the KKK and are irrelevant.
Hey didn't Benjamin Jealous run the Vote Hope PAC on behalf of campaigning for Obama?
http://votehope.org/about.php
All Vote Hope moneys spent on Barack Obama
FEC receipts here-see they spent most of it for Obama http://query.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/com_supopp/2007_...
from the Vote Hope page-

We envision a future in which the electorate is energized and empowered, and reflective of the country’s growing diversity. Join us and be part of making this vision a reality."
To all the folks who said Fox News/O'Reilly hadn't gotten caught up in Andrew's lies, here's O'Reilly's apology for having gotten caught up in Andrew's lies.
http://video.foxnews.com/v/4289777/who-is-shirley...
How nice of Andrew to demonstrate how Fox News is just as kneejerk as the "liberal media", LOL!
So did you watch the whole thing?
O'Reilly brought up some valid points regarding Mrs. Sherrod's ideology/politics and the ethical implications of political speak from a USDA representative.-like why is a higher up in the USDA discussing Healthcare?
O'Reilly also brought up Sherrod's $13 million lawsuit award against the USDA from her Pigford claim.
Sherrod is straw man on this matter-bigger issue is-just how much money is going out for Pigford claims and why are there more claimants than there were farmers?
And why the heck did the USDA hire someone who just sued them for $13 million?
Why did the USDA hire someone who sued the USDA for $13 million?
I am poorly educated and I do not understand this…please send help and money.
lots of money, i need money.

I often forget to engage brain before operating mouth, as you've probably noticed……..?:-D
Tried to reply earlier but had issues.
Look at my profile and you will see this is the first blog of Brieghtbarts I have ever posted on, and I have been lambasted for daring to have a different opinion. I do not thumb down comments of other simply because I disagree, I down thumb comments when people are being insulting, or nasty. But that is not the standard of conduct here.

Does it matter that folks don't agree with your opinions, are you here looking to have
your ego stroked. If it gives you any solace, I often get TD's, but I'm here to vent and
spew, so I don't really GAS. I've never been afraid to swim against the current though.
Just happens I agree with many here on most issues. It helps if you can learn to re-
cognize when you have lost an argument, or either are so far outside the majority con-
tinued argument is futile. Shoot I read this site for several months before I began com-
menting, felt like I needed to get the lay of the land.
Just what kind of game is Joseph_of_Steel playing? Just a few days before this post above….he posted this:
"Sir, since the NAACP's courageous plea for the Tea Party to, at the least, denounce the racists in their midst (and at the worst, admit that the movement is an incarnation of the KKK); this biggovernment site has been devoted to killing the messenger. It has done nothing but pile on mercilessly. It has sacrificed not one white hooded tea party member at the alter of equality and fairness.
You are infected with prejudice."
