CNN, Huffington Post Urge Violence Against Republicans

CNN and Huffington Post have each published op-eds this past week by regular contributors with headlines that explicitly call for Obama to use violent gangland tactics against his political opponents.
CNN published a column by Roland Martin on February 11 with the headline, Time for Obama to go ‘gangsta’ on GOP.
Martin concluded the article with a plea for Obama to emulate the violent tactics of the Prohibition-era Chicago mob boss Al Capone.
Obama’s critics keep blasting him for Chicago-style politics. So, fine. Channel your inner Al Capone and go gangsta against your foes. Let ‘em know that if they aren’t with you, they are against you, and will pay the price.
The Huffington Post followed-up with their own call for gangland violence against Republicans with the publication on February 14 of a column by David Bourgeois with the title, Obama Better Start Breaking Kneecaps.
Bourgeois concludes his article with this call for gangland violence.
You’ve given it your best shot, you’ve tried numerous times to talk with the Republicans, to negotiate, to meet them halfway on every single matter before the American people. But they hate you for many reasons. It’s time you break kneecaps (bold in original). It’s time to destroy the Republican Party. They don’t deserve a seat at the table when all they want to do is score political points by being the Party of No.
HUFFINGTON: Well, Roger, it’s not a question of picking a fight. And aren’t you concerned about the language that Glenn Beck is using, which is, after all, inciting the American people? There is a lot of suffering out there, as you know, and when he talks about people being slaughtered, about who is going to be the next in the killing spree…
…It’s not about the word police. It’s about something deeper. It’s about the fact that there is a tradition as the historian Richard Hofstetter said, in American politics, of the paranoid style. And the paranoid style is dangerous when there is real pain out there.
Ailes defended Beck, saying he was accurately talking about the governments of Hitler and Stalin.
Violent rhetoric such as that espoused by CNN and the Huffington Post is usually found in the bowels of Internet discussion forums, not as sanctioned op-ed headlines on news sites with White House press passes.
CNN and Huffington Post would be well-advised to retract the calls to violence and issue apologies to Republicans before Obama supporters are incited by their violent rhetoric and start going gangsta and break kneecaps of Republicans.

This is a stretch, but this type of rhetoric does sometimes lead to actual violence by soft heads.

You'd really have to be obtuse if you don't know the history of the socialist and progressive movements in this country and not realize that they very much engaged in violence.
HuffPo and other left wing blogs and websites are filled with the thick-headed that might just not take this as hyperbole.
The language cited in these articles were presumably meant to be taken figuratively not literally. Yet no one can doubt that violence has occurred at Tea Party events by some of Obama's most erstwhile supporters: union thugs.

This was my concern. I was starting to be concerned that the OBlivious administration to start to create a violent bent to try to stop it, leave it to the people losing the argument to "bring out the bats" instead. It is really revealing that when these people lose the argument it is either because we are stupid or should just have it beaten into us. Aren't these the same wonderful people that keep telling us drill and practice doesn't work to educate our children?

Sarah Palin's church was fire bombed in Dec 2008 with people inside. TX Governor Perry's Governor's mansion in Austin, TX was fire bombed and gutted June 2009. During the Sept 2008 RNC political convention, two individuals were caught red handed trying to fire bomb the delegates attending the convention. The FBI informant who turned them in later had his life threatened, and so there was another arrest.
Never heard of this? Not surprised, and not surprised if there will be a spike in violence being incited by CNN and HuffPO.

Kenneth Gladney was a victim of such tactics at the hands of SEIU members. Leaders of the SEIU also issued memos encouraging their members to "shout down" any who questioned the health care bill at town hall meetings. Any who have tried to debate the issues have found how quick to anger liberals are. Ultimately when they are loosing a debate they begin hurling insults, yelling and making threats as a means to silence those who disagree with them. Many, though not most, are even willing to get physical if the occasion calls for it.

Please….as a conservative myself "urging violence against Republicans" is a rediculous and irresponsible response to what is being said. Republicans are NOT the enemy of this administration, the PEOPLE are. By resorting to this kind of rhetoric, Roland and Huffington are clearly conceding that the left has lost in the arena of ideas.
've seen the video for myself and Gladney ended up in the hospital. The same cannot be said of the other side. So who was shoving whom again? And how can you justify the use of force against a man who was simply selling his wares?

Finally, let's go back to the original articles here: the HuffPo piece insists that the Republicans have been invited to the table to negotiate in good faith all along. This is an outright lie, and anyone who's been paying attention for the past year knows it. Funny that Obama and the dems didn't see any need to even listen to the Republicans until Scott Brown upset the apple cart. So who's being insincere here?

My Dad, God rest his soul, worked for a book company back then and encountered filthy hippie radicals who were planning such 'disruptions' and 'demonstrations' in flight on more than one occasion.
