Not as much as I detest baseball and basketball and NASCAR, but the mere thought of sitting in a stadium watching a football match or game or whatever it’s called makes me dream of the sweet release of death. So when I heard that Rush Limbaugh wanted to buy one of these teams or crews or squadrons or whatever they are called, I shook my head. If I had a couple hundred loose mil to spend, it would be on a tropical island, not a bunch of ‘roided-up dudes bashing into each other and preempting my favorite shows. But its Rush’s money and this is America.
Well, it was America. Apparently, that’s changed in the last few days because now it appears that Rush cannot be allowed to spend his own money as he wants to because his political views are unsatisfactory. He’s conservative, and therefore the rights, privileges and immunities or any other American citizen no longer appear apply to him. Just ask Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), who urged the NFL not to allow Rush’s bid to buy some team (The Rams? The Raiders? The Yankees? I really don’t follow this stuff).
Let me get this straight, because this is more disturbing than the thought of having to attend a hockey doubleheader: An American political leader is demanding that a private business not do business with an American citizen because she does not approve of his politics.
Am I the only one who thinks this is kind of a problem? In fact, isn’t this kind of an assault on the very foundation of our political system?
Oh, well, it’s really because of his inflammatory rhetoric, not his politics – as if that was a distinction with a difference. You can be conservative, I guess – you just can’t talk about it. I sure wish someone had told me that my First Amendment rights came with an asterisk before I twice deployed with the Army to defend them.
What’s particularly interesting is how the words Rush has actually uttered turn out not to be so inflammatory at all. And the quotes floating around that he did not actually utter seem so transparently ridiculous – nonsense about slavery nostalgia and idiocy regarding giving James Earl Ray a medal – that it’s hard to believe that anyone would credit them unless they were either utterly unconcerned with the truth or the mainstream media. Oh, wait – that’s redundant.
It’s those off-the-wall crazy quotes, published in a book and now being re-published by the left wing demolition crew that pique my lawyerly interest. I know a bit about libel law – in my first plaintiff’s case the jury awarded my libeled client $3,049,912 (yeah, I remember it to the freakin’ penny). I’d think long and hard about publishing stuff I know to be demonstrably untrue – especially when it’s lies about a guy with a whole bunch of money to spend on lawyers because he’s not buying a football team.
But beyond that, do we really want a country where if you hold views that annoy the powerful you are barred from doing business and freely lied about in print and on the air? Because it that’s the way it’s going to be then it’s going to be that way for everyone, and frankly 2010 is not looking so hot for the folks holding the reins of power right now. Even with my limited understanding of the game, the same rules apply to both teams regardless of who has possession of the football. The same should be true of our politics and our country.
So let’s clarify the rules of this game right now – does the team in power get to oppress the team temporarily out of power or not? Because what happens to Rush today happens to you in 2011. The ball is in your court.

This is what America is coming to if people don't wake up. It makes my fricken head spin. I must have missed the section of the Constitution where it says politicians can use the power of their office to influence how a private citizen can spend his/her own money. This is completely out of control.

This truly does make my head spin! And it spins daily from the craziness on the left! Are there really Americans out there who think going after Rush (again) is a. going to work, b. a good thing for America, c. anything but a waste of time and energy, d. what we really need to concentrate on considering all the other issues facing this country, e. is not another distraction from a long line of distractions to keep us occupied while they (the facist left) are changing this country one horrendous bill at a time?!!!
It is clear Limbaugh has a solid case to sue MSNBC for libel since it meets all the conditions (they told a lie, they knew it was a lie at the time, and Rush suffered financially for it). If Rush play his cards right, instead of owning the Rams he'll be owning MSNBC. Then Rush will be able to force Keith Olberman and Chris Matthews to suit up and go up against the Packers' defensive line.

I sent a note to the NFL politely pointing out that denying Rush because of politics, would lose them a fan. Expecially since it appears that Fergie has been pre-approved. (Check this before you blow a fuse!) If you would like to express your displeasure go to http://www.nfl.com! Hopefully profits trumph politics. If not, watch for Congress trying to bail out the NFL.

It is mind boggling that this arrogant, self important Congresswoman is actually discouraging a legal commercial transaction from taking place. if the sellers and the buyer can negotiate a deal, the government should be encouraging it because the sellers are probably selling for a gain, so the government stands to benefit from reaping a capital gains tax on the deal.

I encourage all conservatives to look at the You Tube Movie "The Obama Deception". It has two parts to it and each one is about an hour long. It is very eye opening and quite frightening.

Twine – As an organizer of July 4 and 9-12 Tea Parties in my city, I must take offense at your statement. We had a beautiful, respectful, patriotic group of 2000 people who came, and stood together as American citizens. The photos and sound bites brought to you by the media were not typical of the attendees, and certainly not ours. All groups will have their fringes, so don't lump the majority of the Tea Partiers with those that "frankly were an embarassment." Apparently they do, according to the rules now governing us. This is how it is done in countries without democracy. Apparently we are now one of them, at least until 2010.
The Founding Fathers sure knew what they were doing when they: 1) Founded a republic, which we no longer have (we have a democracy with all the attendant problems of a vast, ignorant electorate salivating to feed at the public trough); and, 2) Established a system of checks and balances (which has been sabotaged by corrupt voting practices).

We want every voter in America who is feeling marginalized, dismissed, dismayed, disgusted and just plain over it to join our group, ask everyone you know to join and most importantly, to vote in 2010 and begin your fall house (and senate) cleaning with that election and continue it until all the professional leeches & crooks have been booted out of office. It is my fervent hope that Mr. Limbaugh takes everyone involved to court and sues them for the maximum amount of money he can get, to include future earnings, residuals, and anything else they may have now and in the future. And I expect it will be for a huge amount, at least nine decimal places to the left of the decimal point, and he wins all of that, and treble for punitives. I want the total award to be high enough to bring California into solvency if it was theirs.
I want those who attacked him to reflexively reach for and open their wallets whenever they see his picture or hear his voice…
I want them ruined for the rest of their existence on this planet…and if someone figures out space travel in their lifetimes, any other planet they go to…
And I hope anyone else that these larvae attack; gets to give them the same treatment…in perpetuity…
And I hope the details are made public as a condition of the judgment…as an example to other larva out there…
OK, because of his political beliefs, Rush can't buy a part ownership of a football team. So what's next, because we are registered Republican we can't buy a house(because some loony politician doesn't want "those " kind of people in their neighborhood). Or something a little worse, we can't vote because of out beliefs.

The missed point is that the sellout NFL, whose owners and management have become professional city blackmailers, are turning on Rush to line their own pockets. The way it works is they need to be able to extort their own cities or the governments of the cities they wish to move to. Well they don't need some key politician voting against their extortion because of his/her opposition to one of their owners' political views, you see? I would agree, except that's exactly what they want us to do – pick up a stone. That's what they are trying to push us to. You think things are bad now? They would just love a reason to round us up, take our names, and take away our guns and our votes.
There are better ways – A General Strike, everyone driving the speed limit during the daily commute, or everyone calling the White House at one time at, say, 3am… to melt down the phone lines (I know… Obama does not hear the phone ring at any time of the day or night). I'm sure Saul Alinsky had better ideas than I do. But we have to remember one thing – they want us to rebel against the Government, because, in reality, even though idiots hold the conch shell, the Government is US. We can't fight the Government without fighting ourselves.
Look at Honduras – they threw out their President for unconstitutional acts against the state, yet the US is backing this Chavez wannabe. That's what our 'leaders' know about our Government – they can do anything they want, regardless of the Constitutionality of it. Who's gonna enforce it? The Supreme Court? Sure… just ask Andrew Jackson. The Congress? Nope… cut from the same cloth. The military? Ohh…wouldn't THAT be nice?? The ONLY thing more sure to destroy the Republic than case 1 above (martial law, rounding up citizens, etc.).
My point? The only fix for this situation is to try and shut them down peaceably until we can clear them all out as quickly as is legally possible, vote 'real' Americans into office, and thank God for waking us up before we flew too close to the sun!

Other than that, the comment is completely factual: football players do "bash into each other", and games often go into overtime, cutting into other scheduled programming.
I don't think it's fair to dismiss a comment as "ignorant" just because you disagree with the writer's point of view.
I currently have zero interest in any so-called "team" sport. I'm not sure whether that's a function of age, or of wisdom…

So what this pretty much boils down to is that the government will determine what you can and cannot do – business-wise, if they do not like your politics.
I realize this is Limbaugh, and it's on a much bigger scale than the rest of us have to worry about (now anyway), but it's pretty creepy to think about.

How is the government demanding that the NFL not allow rush to own the Rams any different from Obama replacing the CEO of GM and dictating how banks and auto companies pay their employees? I just finshed sending my email to the NFL:
I am writing to inform the NFL that I will no longer attend/watch a NFL game, buy NFL merchandise or support any of your other affiliated organizations. I don't care to watch or support overpaid 'athletes' and 'commentators' that lie on TV. Or are charged for drunk driving, domestic violence, animal abuse, and basically overall bad behavior. I hope others follow my lead until you and your players clean up your act.
And finally do us all a favor – and keep your thoughts to yourself on anything other than a football play or score. For me, you have ruined the Sunday tradition.

I don't see how they can "round up" up tp 200 million armed citizens. The ones I know would not take kindly to being rounded up. If you would give up your freedoms for the fear of harm by an Obama fascist government that is your choice not mine and millions of others.Freedom is not free and sometimes it has to be fought for even if the enemy is within. Which it sure seems to be now.

First, I don't think we're talking about 200 million armed citizens in the US, but that's besides the point. And of course they would not just round us all up at once. They'd start with the easy ones – just declare a 'state of crisis' and arrest anyone who stands up to them. Yes, there would be some who would rebel, so they'd use them as an excuse to crack down further. "Armed insurrection at some demonstrations", "Armed mobs threaten the security of the law-abiding citizens"… can't you see the news headlines now? So, they'd have to round up all the guns to protect the population.
I'd bet 80% of gun owners would bring their guns in on the required day to their local collection points without fail rather than face going to federal prison. The remaining ones would then be rounded up and made an example of.
Do you really think Americans would stand up en masse to the government? Some would, yes… but most Americans would just complain, blog, and post on boards like this… but in the end just do what they're told and even show up bright and early to turn in their guns so they wouldn't have to stand in line all day.
If it's numbers that makes you believe it couldn't be done… China manages to control 1,000,000,000,000 people without constant violence. It's amazing how quickly people will cow when you take out 1% and make examples of them.
If you want an example closer to home, just recall a few years ago when Hurricane Katrina struck Louisiana… they confiscated firearms from the citizens there, and the only story that made the news was the little old lady they wrestled to the ground to take her pistol. What happened then?? Outrage? yes… so what? If 3 or 4 250# cops will do that to a little old lady, what do you think they would do to you or I?
I'm telling you, the only hope is to sludge up the system with non-violent action and replace them all democratically. In my example, few would die, and we'd come out with our system still intact. With the alternative, we move to a police state, thousands die, and we come out being the country that's the closest thing to China.
