National Education Association Thanks Students for Raising PAC Funds
by Kyle OlsonAt its recent convention, National Education Association Vice President Lily Eskelsen publicly thanked students for raising funds for the union political action committee, known as the NEA Fund for Children and Public Education.
“We also want to recognize the great work of our student programs all year long they’ve been utilizing our member-to-member fundraising tool go.NEAfund.org to raise money from students all over the country. Thank you retirees. Thank you students!”
Aside from not being able to insert complete sentences into the teleprompter, Eskelsen is acknowledging that students helped raise money to elect union-friendly politicians.
Can’t the union for once just leave the children alone? Can’t the union for once allow students to receive an education untainted by the gripes of unhappy employees?
Political action committees are only supposed to solicit funds from union or association members or employees. So why are students participating in the first place?
The NEA PAC handbook says, “Power comes not just from more members, securing a good contract or winning an election, but by mobilizing all of our resources – people, money and ideas – around a common concern.”
One would think the “common concern” would be improving public education in many parts of the country where it’s downright pathetic. Perhaps if the union was more interested in student achievement than feathering its own nest, the American public would have a better view of the union.
But rightly so, just 42% of Americans have a “somewhat favorable” opinion of the union, according to Rasmuessen Reports.
The more America understands that the union is about political power and influence versus high academic performance, the lower than number will sink. Using students to raise PAC funds won’t help, either.

"So why are students participating in the first place?"
If they didn't steal money from everyone, they would have NOTHING!!! And if the overpaid union administration had to find a REAL job, they would finally understand the plight of the American WORKER!!
"Using students to raise PAC funds won’t help, either."
Well, it might help, if you're trying to raise up a new generation of communists.

Dear President Obama,
I know you want to have Kathleen Sebelius knock off as many seniors as possible to pay for “Obamacare,” but do they have to eat dog food before that day comes because you failed to prioritize your Social Security payments against other far, far, less pressing obligations? Americans have to do this everyday of their lives, while we all make mistakes, including me, we learn from them and try to do better the next time around. Money is not so tough to manage once you realize that it doesn’t make you happy, but not having it certainly makes you hungry. It would appear that you’ve gone for the “Scare the Elderly Card.” Ok I’ll bite. Seeing that your side has no problem making videos depicting people I respect throwing the elderly off a cliff, even in wheel chairs. We truly have neared the bottom if this is how we conduct political debate.
In the real world when future costs are impossible to bare a company looks to end the obligation with a lump sum payment. For instance, take a 75 year old on SS with no other means of support. What would be better for all involved? Stringing this person along? Or sending one last lump sum payment out? It’s obvious that sending out that final payment is the wiser choice. The retiree can rest assured that she has her money in the bank and the government can now attack it’s core problems and responsibilities. Of course don’t forget the rest of the future recipients, they should have their “money” locked into a well diversified account and receive a quarterly statement and have the option of contributing to it if they want to save more for retirement. All of this makes complete sense, and as such, has about as much chance of passing as ending a lightbulb ban that encourages the use of bulbs that are, end to end, far more polluting than any incandescent bulb could ever even dream of being.
Mr. Obama maybe you are correct. Recently I saw an Arab fellow in the news burning a $1.00 bill, and I had a thought. Why not just take everything I own, including my Derek Jeter Card, and burn it? Just put it all out on the lawn and pour gasoline on it? At least then what ever I own will go for some useful purpose like generating heat and not polluting and corrupting young minds, or being used to fight for one side of the same/muslim arab coin, or be used to pay the salary of a TSA worker that shoves Ipads down his pants, or before doing so decides to aggressively search a 6 year old from Amish country. Of course I will do none of this. I’m not stupid. I voted for the best of two terrible options. McCain/Palin. It was the Obama voter that set this nation on fire. Conservatives like myself are trying to put that fire out.
Ever wonder what the world would be like if you lost?
I do.
Respectfully,
Joe Doakes
If the school boards and parents wake up and prohibit all fund raising for anything in schools that would be a 1st step.
PLUS 10
Although I do not mind having students learn about CAPITALISM first hand!! Some may think this is "fund raising" if they do it for a *gasp* PROFIT!!
INDOCTRINATION…………………Soros would be sooooo proud.
Isn't bad enough that they brainwash our kids with their leftist ideas, now they have to use them to raise money for them. Quality education in action? Come on, someone stop this BS!
A teacher walks up to a kid and says, "Won't you donate?" Isn't that coersion of the most perverted kind? This should be illegal.
Where's the Justice Department when you need them?
American Voters: Demand from your State and County Legislatures to STOP doing Payroll Deduction for Union Dues. MAKE the Union Thugs WORK for their money.
I'm willing you a thought because if I write it it'll get censored.
Hate to pour cold water on this, but I think she's referring to student NEA members, who are college students prepping to be teachers.
When teachers are using their students for personal gain, doesn't that cross some ethical boundary? Sickening people.
It's time for conservatives to stand against the NEA. http://conservativeteachersofamerica.com/2011/07/...
This really should surprise me but it doesn't. The left will do anything to promote their agenda including using our children for their benefit.
The teachers unions will start worrying about the children when they start paying dues.
These students have no future….they will, however, have a memory of this…and we will be able to put 2 and 2 together when they are old enough to vote…assuming the pigressives don't ban elections.
Now the teachers union is the school yard bully taking the kids lunch money.
No wonder kids can't get help from the school principal. He's the one running the racket.
“The more America understands that the union is about political power and influence versus high academic performance, the lower than number will sink.”
That is the key. Whether it be the indoctrination, or the excessive amounts that teachers unions dole out (http://bit.ly/l1rdpr), educating the taxpayers about how these unions operate.
Better yet is to look at what happens to the workers that the unions “represent” as employers struggle to meet the unrealistic demands of the unions. The Milwaukee Public School District, operating under a previously union-negotiated contract was forced to lay off hundreds of teachers (http://bit.ly/jlSdqO).
Conversely, the curtailing of collective bargaining has allowed districts in Wisconsin to turn major deficits into surpluses and saved jobs in the process (http://bit.ly/mDfKWy).
As these examples spread through Wisconsin, and other states, people will come to see what harm unions really do and why it’s so important to restrict their power over taxpayers.
That assumes that progressives have ethical boundaries.
Communist Outreach…and these are the thugs brainwashing your children…
The Congressional Education Committee can be reached at: http://edworkforce.house.gov/Contact/
The Committee's individual members are located at: http://edworkforce.house.gov/OurTeam/MeetTheMembe...
Or, once you know their names / state, you can reach each one at their respective office at: http://edworkforce.house.gov/OurTeam/MeetTheMembe...
Here is what I just sent the Committee:
I am shocked and outraged that the NEA would enlist students to carry-out PAC fundraising efforts. There should be a swift investigation into this, with appropriate punishment / sanctions against those NEA and state affiliate individuals involved. Children and schools are used enough as political pawns, but they do not need to be used as free labor to enrich the coffers of the NEA lobbying apparatus.
I was hoping for a law to illustrate for them. They only follow the rules when they are forced.
They obviously need more coercion.
