California Teacher Fights Back Against His Union’s Support of Cop Killer
by Kyle OlsonA few weeks ago I brought you the story of the California Federation of Teachers passing a resolution “reaffirming” support for convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal. He was convicted of killing, execution-style, Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner. Despite numerous appeals and efforts by far leftists to spring him from prison, he’s serving a life sentence in an open-and-shut case.
The Fraternal Order of Police issued a strongly-worded letter to American Federation of Teachers’ President Randi Weingarten, parent union to the CFT.

The union’s absurdly radical action is now producing its consequences.
I received an email from a CFT and AFT member resigning his union membership over the kerfuffle. He wrote in part:
“Having given the matter considerable thought, I have decided to resign from our labor union, an affiliate of the CFT and the AFT. I have already instructed [an administrative staff member] in Davenport to stop deducting dues from my paycheck. I feel some responsibility for briefly explaining the reasons for this difficult decision.
“I did not especially think this faculty needed to unionize when the idea for that came forward, but I did vote in favor of it, in support of the majority of faculty that did think this worthwhile. I did so with the understanding our union would stick to our immediate educational and terms of employment issues at [our school]. Indeed, our local has pretty much done a good job of that, except for having used tactics during the last round of labor negotiations that I rejected as long ago as 1968 as a college student. No, the end did not justify the means. I will leave it at that.
“More to the point, I cannot allow my dues to support either the CFT or the AFT. The CFT recently passed a resolution supporting convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal. I have attached a strong objection written by the National Fraternal Order of Police. Frankly, I have no idea whether this person did or did not kill a cop; but I do know that I do not want one penny on my union dues spent on this cause. It has nothing to do with education. Moreover, the CFT also expends considerable resources on state-level political struggles that I do not support, and in fact could bankrupt the state I live in.
“As for the AFT, it is purely and simply an organ of the Democrat party. I have attached some charts below showing that at this time it contributes almost exclusively to the Democrat party. I do not approve of this use of my dues.
“Since I continue to support the mission of our Local insofar as it involves educational issues at [our school], I will contribute 10% of what I have been paying directly to our local, through the treasurer. As the former treasurer, I believe that amount will exceed the portion of my dues that remains in our union’s bank account after regular monthly payments to the CFT and AFT.”
Kudos to this teacher and former union treasurer for standing up for what he believes. He now realizes that he didn’t leave the labor union, the labor union left him.
Many other teachers are beginning to recognize the in-your-face radicalization of the public sector unions, and they don’t like it either. I expect we’ll be hearing similar stories from brave union members who’ve had their fill and simply say, “Enough!”
Teachers, please continue telling them.

Union bosses are by definition criminally corrupt and a significant majority of union members are as well so this really shouldn't surprise anyone that AFT and CFT would endorse the actions of a cold blooded murderer.
Mumia is an American terrorist. Anyone who supports people like Mumia, should be put on the terrorist list. Code Pink included.
Way to go dog. This is what I call…………………..FREEDOM OF SPEECH
Take a wild guess who will get a presidential pardon following the next election.
I pray that that teacher, whoever he is, remains safe from the vindictive impulses of his former union brethren.
The behavior of the teachers in Wisconsin should give everyone pause for thought.
There are sane people in the unions…
The good will cleanse the bad and take there union back…
A lot of there dews should go into there pensions not a commies bank account… To do with what the union wants…
Bravo! It's about time that the sane and responsible members of these public unions start standing up and saying enough. I know that there are more than a few who would follow this brave teacher's example if they felt that there were others around them who would back them. Time to break away from the union mob and get this country out of the greedy grasp of the unions and the Democrats.
There's no end once they step onto the "other side"….. Where does the "left" think they want to go with the support of d*ckweeds like this?
You would think at some point it would be more than just BG that finds this story. Where's the outrage?
This is a perfect example of principled American values. Well done and well stated. Perhaps these examples as they receive more exposure will bring a level of common sense to the debate.
"…………Many other teachers are beginning to recognize the in-your-face radicalization of the public sector unions,……."
Now all we have to do on this site is to express ourselves,…..
in a manner that clearly differentiates our feelings between,……
the American union rank and file member and the,…….
Trumpka stooge rank and file member.
I believe this teacher represents a majority of all teachers. However, it is likely most teachers are so fearful of retribution from union leadership they are unwilling to speak out against the wrongs perpetrated by unions in support of leftist policies and beliefs. ____It's unfortunate our free speech laws don't protect union members who are willing to stand against corrupt unions using their dues to push an agenda that is counter to the values most Americans believe in.
Looks like the Union bosses…to borrow a phrase… "chickens, have come home to roost"
and not a moment too soon.
GOD bless this citizen who is a union 'member' that will not be bullied…by the 'goons'!
Where are the rest of you?

Teachers
Their unions are hard left. Teachers seem to teach far left ideology. A large percentage of student graduate with a left view.
It appears to me that a vast majority of teachers are liberals and bring that liberalism to the classroom as a hidden agenda (even if they themselves don't recognize the disservice they perform). After all they are products of a liberal education themselves.
America slept as this cancer took over our education system.
As long as the slain officers' fellows can get a shot at the death penalty they were denied by the liberals in the first place!
Kyle you are such a liar. No one can believe a word that comes out of your mouth.
He'll get beaten up, one way or another. The Union cannot afford to let one guy start a stampede.
wanna bet?
This coming from the biggest liar on Andrew's site, worried someone is going to lie more than you thus taking your title? You must be in 0bumble campaign mode because your left wing hypocrisy is showing again.
congrats to this brave teacher knowing right from wrong point blank. I pray for you and will stand behind you if needed- many true Americans will stand behind you- it is important that we know who you are so we can help protect you- there are more of us then the thugs.
I hope his young and elderly family members are either in hiding or protected because I'll bet the mighty Union has already put a contract out on him.
Careful there, people. Mumia is one of Bill Ayers' heroes.
Could you please be specific, where exactly did Mr Olson tell any lies…???
Simply claiming someone has lied without supporting it with facts is disingenuous and hypocritical on its face.
So please do be honest and specific, this is for posterity.
We hope they will stand up, or will they be sheeple???
can you give us your take on why the Cal. Libs want this,……
Mumia Abu-Jamal fella out of prison,…????
Phuck-off, troll…
I recommend Maureen Faulkner's book "Murdered by Mumia". It is incredible what this family has been put through by the nutjob supporters of this evil man, Mumia. Frankly, It wouldn't surprise me if BO pardons this POS as he leaves the WH after the next election.
Mumia Abu-Jamal is a criminal and with the support he's getting from the teacher's union, that makes them criminals as well. Time to clean house. Time to remove the criminals.
Hey sheet head,
Well that is much better then what humps in/out of your mouth.
Halleujah! Finally a teacher with morals, brains and guts. Keep up the good work, but watch your back. BTW, this killer is upheld by Dumbo's man, Van Jones. Isn't that a crock?
And you are a freaking idiot. Keep up the good work Kyle.
I think this type of teacher is more common than we think; it's just that the extreme radicals are the ones leading and guiding these unions. I would bet that most of the members of this union don't support this cop-killing murderer in Philadelphia. But I think the writer's best point is this: what does a convicted murderer in Pennsylvania have to do with education in California? Friggin liberals, make me sick.
With all due respect, Kyle, I am not a fan of any unsourced stories. It is true the unions support Mumia but if this teacher is so principled why not put his name out there? And I'm not doubting you got the email I just think that until it is substantiated, it's just an anecdote.
Our side has to be better, more transparent and blogging with greater verity because that is how we win the war….
The pardon power may only be applied to those convicted of federal crimes. It can't be used for state felony convictions…
… then again, you have a point: Since when has the Constitution or the laws ever kept BoBo the Clown from doing exactly as he pleases?
<crickets>
A message to the teachers and other people who are members of unions:
All it takes for evil to succeed is for good people to do nothing.
The teacher in this article is not doing nothing, he's doing something, and he's doing something good. If all good teachers and union members did something, and that something was good, all union corruption could be stopped.
We have to stop being afraid to speak and act for what we know is right.
Remember the blacks and whites that marched for Civil Rights – they were hosed and beaten and attacked by dogs, and yet they stood for what was right.
Remember those that protected Jews in Germany and other Nazi occupied countries during WW2 – their punishment was most certainly death, and yet they stood for what was right.
Remember the anti-slavery folk and abolitionists that helped runaway slaves, including through the Underground Railroad, the slaves risking either a return to chains or death, and those that helped them were also risking punishment, and yet they stood for what was right.
Remember that our Founders demanded independence and liberty and risked being convicted of treason and yet they stood for what was right.
If none of those people stood or what was right and risked their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor, imagine what kind of world we'd be living in today.
Kyle you are such a liar….what are you little girl 10?
LOL!
In today's country putting your name out there isn't just something -you- have to deal with. If this guy has kids, a significant other or anything else, in our twisted morally sick culture that means they're all open game.
Plus I think we've all seen how nasty union members are to other union members who don't agree.
What does this Mumia case have to do with teaching? Nothing. The leaders of the TEACHERS unions need to be this concerned about TEACHERS and TEACHING. A teachers union has no business taking a stance on this either way.
You are wrong.
If there are any "good" or "sane" union members, they have been successfully gagged and intimidated into turning their eyes from all manner of corruption. Whether it is a teachers union, a police officers union, or any other, they are all about protecting their 'brothers', at any cost. Truth, honor and justice have no place in organized labor.
The bad will never be punished. They can't be fired. They won't be fined. They may have to stay home a day or two, with pay, but that's about it.
Unions are the front lines for those who would destroy the US.
Have any of you read the resolution? It's pretty innocuous; asking for a solid hearing of evidence that could prove this man's (who campaigned for quality public education) innocence. There are a couple of problems with the wording that I don't agree with, but it's hardly the "Yeah! We love cop killers!" that the article makes it out to be.
Also, the guy who wrote this letter is a joke. It's clear to me that he just doesn't want to be part of the union, which is fine, but trying to make the whole thing a political argument is ridiculous.
It's about time that the sane and responsible members of these public unions start standing up and saying enough. I know that there are more than a few who would follow this brave teacher's example if they felt that there were others around them who would back them. Time to break away from the union mob and get this country out of the greedy grasp of the unions and the Democrats. personalloan
