California Teachers ‘Reaffirm’ Support for Cop-Killer Mumia Abu-Jamal
by Kyle OlsonI believe there is a difference between rank-and-file teachers and the leadership of radical teachers’ unions. The trouble is, the rank-and-file sits idly by as the radicals embarrass them, time and time again. Perhaps we’ve reached the point where the rank-and-file can rightfully be accused of being complicit of such behavior.
Why aren’t teachers angrily denouncing a recent resolution passed by the California Federation of Teachers in which the union “reaffirms support for death row journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal?”
The American Federation of Teachers, led by Randi Weingarten, has to date issued no statement in opposition to this offensive resolution.

And what does the AFL-CIO, the parent to the AFT think? More importantly, what do the police members of the AFL-CIO think? After all, Abu-Jamal was convicted of killing one of their own.
Or don’t they care?
At what point will the teachers’ unions be more concerned with the pitiful state of public education than they are about the fate of a convicted cop killer, or other unrelated issues like gay rights, national health care or American foreign policy?
Mumia Abu-Jamal, a hero of hardcore radical leftists – to some because he executed a police officer – does not deserve the honor and respect of teachers. It sends the wrong message to children. But the fact that the union would take the time to pass such a resolution shows the purpose of the union: to pass a radical agenda that has little if anything to do with education.

Fry Mumia! That he hasn't been already is a travesty.
"I believe there is a difference between rank-and-file teachers and the leadership of radical teachers’ unions."
Why? Who elects the leadership? Aliens?
That's California politics! The good people put up with being jostled, elbowed and told what to assume by radical thugs and losers!
In part from the AFT:
Resolution 19
Reaffirm support for death row journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal
Whereas, Mumia Abu-Jamal’s 1982 trial in Philadelphia was characterized by illegal suppression of evidence, police coercion, illegal exclusion of black jurors, and unfair and unconstitutional rulings by the judge; and
Whereas, the trial judge, Albert Sabo, has been quoted in a sworn statement to have vowed at the time of the trial to help the prosecution ‘fry the n—–;’ and
Whereas, subsequent appellate rulings have bent the law out of shape to sustain the guilty verdict of that trial; and
Whereas, the appellate courts have also refused to consider strong evidence of Mumia Abu-Jamal’s innocence that has emerged continuously in the years subsequent to the trial; and
Whereas, the U.S. Supreme Court, in denying relief to Mumia Abu-Jamal, ignored key precedents such as its own ruling in Batson v Kentucky, which was supposed to prevent exclusion of jurors on the basis of race; and
Whereas, Mumia Abu-Jamal still is incarcerated on Death Row while awaiting a decision from the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals that could remove a stay on his execution; and
Whereas, Mumia Abu-Jamal has for decades as a journalist fought courageously against racism and police brutality and for the human rights of all people and has taken strong stands in support of working people involved in labor struggles and in support of well-funded, quality, public education; and
Whereas, the continued unjust incarceration of Mumia Abu-Jamal represents a threat to the civil rights of all people; and
Whereas, the CFT has at a previous Convention voiced its support for justice for Mumia Abu-Jamal;
Therefore, be it resolved, that the California Federation of Teachers reaffirm its support and demand that the courts consider the evidence of innocence of Mumia Abu-Jamal; and
Be it further resolved, that the CFT introduce and advocate on behalf of a resolution at the 2012 AFT Convention reaffirming the AFT’s support for justice for Mumia Abu-Jamal should he not have been cleared of charges and released by that time.

Resolution 20
Oppose the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act
Whereas, a far reaching anti-choice bill, introduced by Rep. Chris Smith (R-New Jersey) and supported by 173 members of the House of Representatives, includes a provision that could redefine rape and set women’s rights back by decades; and
Whereas, currently federal dollars cannot be used for abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or when the woman’s life is in danger; and
Whereas, the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act” — a bill that House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has dubbed a top priority in the new Congress — would limit the rape exemption to “forcible rape;” and
Whereas, this bill would rule out federal assistance for abortions in many rape cases, including instances of statutory rape, rapes of women with limited mental capacity, and many date rapes; and
Whereas, as far too many women know, bruises and broken bones do not define rape – a lack of consent does. The Smith bill is scary, with 173 supporters it already has a frightening chance of passage;
Therefore, be it resolved, that the California Federation of Teachers oppose the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act,” and communicate this message to state and federal legislators, the AFT; and
Be it further resolved, that the CFT urges its members to sign MoveOn’s petition to Congress, send emails, make phone calls, and visit their legislators demanding they oppose this sexist, anti-choice Smith bill.
Any thoughts of WHY our public tax payer schools are going to sh*t???
I am shocked. Shocked I tell you. OK, not really.
The infiltration of formerly mainstream unions by radical leftists has been going on under our noses for some years.
Cool. I'm sure ABC, NBC and CBS are going to lead with this story, to show the people the disconect between the Union and their supporters (Comunist/fascist/killers) and the common citizen.
Heheheheheeh, Ok, bad joke
The only thing surprising about this is they didn't demand more money for the children at the same time!
The leaders are all terrorists (or communists aligned with terrorists). The members are nothing more than useful idiots.
“reaffirms support for death row journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal?” Death row "Journalist"? I never heard of somebody being on death row for being a journalist. Wonder if the death row thing might actually be tied to the murder of a police officer. Funny how the left ignores this little trifle.
No offense, but you're hailing from Illinois. The people there have been conditioned to believe that their vote doesn't matter. Of course that's not true, but that's where the "conditioning" comes in.
What I find interesting is that if there's only a "handful of dozens" of people voting, where is the massive "union vote?" Are they just that confident that they can't lose that they didn't bother to bus in a thousand useful idiots to vote?
Arizonanas are now more worried about their western border than they are about the southern border.
Janet? I think we need another 1,000 miles of fence.
F***ing brilliant! I've said the same thing for years. The leadership merely reflects the preferences of the rank-and-file.
California has the death penalty, yet this thing lives? He should have assumed room temperature years ago.
Kyle…you hit the nail on the head…the rank and file are not standing and shouting FOUL! as they should…this is exactly like the "moderate" muslims not speaking out against the radicals…the few tainting the many….the many should be RAGING!
Terrorist and Terrorism and words that are often overused much like the leftist default argument, "Racist". Eventually, the words will be meaningless.
That being said, it is clear that the AFL-CIO and the CFT are organizations that are clearly anti-American. Didn't Trumpka say something about him not being about the benefit of his workers, but for the power and his agenda (which is CLEARLY un-American.)
These union thugs will claim to be deeply pro-American, but, the only pro-America they are for is the Marxist Utopian paradise they envision America becoming. Unions make up what? less than 10% of the entire work force?
This Union vision is antithetical to everything our founding fathers fought for.
I wonder where would be their support be if he killed a teacher and not a police officer?
The unions probably aren't showing up because they already financed the campaigns of the people who they want to win a position on the school board. Since there is never much coverage of the candidates, people will vote for whoever has the most yard signs which are sitting in the lawns of union members. The unions already did their part.
I'm glad to see that the unions are keeping their eye on the important issues in education. Sarc
You are right about that point, John. I came out of High School with the mindset that the electoral college was a corruption and that it meant my vote meant nothing. Little did I know that my "teachers" had undermined the very basis of our Republic in their desire to kill it and replace it with a Democracy.
I live rural so my polling place is a small one to begin with, I suppose I should have said something about that for proper context, but still, that is like 5% turnout by midday. Even worse, and this might be another part of why turnout is so low, many races in this local election aren't even contested save a write-in (which there are a couple of them but I don;t even think those are contested).
School board is a little funky here. The top vote getters do not even necessarily win. There is a rotation commanding how many people can sit on the board from different areas so that the most populous area can't just endlessly own the others (which could happen easily).
Hey man, this is why they need property tax increases and more federal taxpayers' money!
Disgusting huh.
I believe the following quote says it all: "Be it further resolved, that the CFT urges its members to sign MoveOn’s…"
CFT is just another lemming in the progressive movement. Unfortunately their going over the cliff will affect our children too.
Yep, they'll extort taxpayers dollars anyway they can…

Great don't worry about the cop killers, their Union backed.. Until he gets a couple more.. Hay unions whats the bag limit for cops ? 3, 5, 7, an even dozen. To bad that the cop killers don't go after Union organizers and higher ups right to Soros. Than we could give pardons.
The union supports this killer because they see in him someone who has the same values.
That MoveOn comment knocked me off my chair too.
)
No bones or hidden meanings. They show how Marxist they really are.
It didn't surprise me, mainly because I work with a similar organization. One good thing about NM is they cannot force union membership and dues like Wisconsin.
NM is a nice, and so far, a low populated state. I lived in Las Cruces and miss the beauty of the Organ Mountains.
)
There it is, support for a cop killer. I hope the cop union refutes this ASAP.
Why don't our "Highly Educated " Teachers take back the union ??? Useful Idiots is an understatement, you side with the evil ones I no longer respect you, you are just part of the THUGGERY……
Mumia is an animal who can read and write……..
I've lived here since I was a kid although the AF sent me away for 20+ years. It takes a bit for some to get used to the High Desert although it is nice seeing the clarity of the stars at night. Lately we are having winds over 70 mph producing huge dust clouds!
Those who are able….are moving out of CA…..those who are left are shooting each other….makes military service in Afgahanistan look almost attractive…..
Consider yourself lucky.

I'm back on the West Coast, and hate it. A place once beautiful, has turned ugly.
I here ya. My daughter was in sunny SoCal while stationed at Camp Pendleton. Well, we did get rid of the administrative branch Dems here in NM, we still have them in control of the legislative branch. The legislature was more concerned with their pay raise and insulting the #1 radio station then actually working on important issues for New Mexicans.
I'm very familiar with the sad state of affairs of New Mexico politics. Hopefully the change of governorship will help lead the state out of the doldrums, and a different attitude. We found many beautiful, and kind people in New Mexico. Lots of poor people living there, and they have a tendency to vote democrat, with an eye that they're going to get something for nothing. On the up side, New Mexico has lots of wide open spaces, and excellent room for opportunity.
I don't know exactly where you're located, but there's an excellent Mexican restaurant in a little town just North of Alamogordo, called Tularosa, just North of Holloman Airforce Base, on Highway 70. The Sunday brunch is out of this world, and comes no finer anywhere.

Uh-huh. And I suppose no jury ever came to an erroneous verdict.
When eyewitnesses testify that this clown executed the officer, probably not.
