Union Group Calls 9/11 Attacks ‘Blowback’-Do National Leaders Agree?

These groups are not just calling for a Palestinian homeland in the Middle East and a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian/Israeli standoff. They’re suggesting that the creation of Israel has been a disaster for the Palestinian people.
It’s clear that they don’t share the commitment to Israeli security that American presidential administrations – Republican and Democrat – have maintained since 1948. They are radically anti-Israel, and they offer no apologies for that. The following passage can be found on the Labor for Palestine website:
The establishment of Israel in 1948 inflicted on the Palestinian people a continuing campaign of displacement, discrimination, exploitation and brutality that has continued to this day.
The anti-Israel rhetoric is just the tip of the iceberg. The group suggests that American foreign policy was to blame for the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001. In other words, 3,000-plus people deserved to die due to American support for the continued existence of Israel.
The group also protests recent U.S. military actions in the Middle East – calling them an endless “war of terror,” – and suggests that Iran may be the next innocent victim of American “colonialization.”
Their allies — including racist demagogue Pam Geller, the Anti-Defamation League, Rudolph Giuliani and prominent Neocons — promote bigotry to fuel increasingly unpopular U.S. wars against the Muslim world, while shielding Israeli apartheid from growing international isolation.
Workers, abroad and at home, have long paid the price for these disastrous policies. On 9/11, we suffered blowback from decades of U.S./Israeli war, occupation and colonialism.
9/11, in turn, has been the pretext for an endless bipartisan war of terror. This war has devastated Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Palestine, Lebanon, Somalia, Yemen and other countries.
It has left thousands of G.I.s dead or maimed. It has tortured prisoners and undermined civil liberties. It has squandered trillions of dollars.
Now it targets Iran.
For these reasons, it is essential for trade unionists and all workers to stand up in defense of the Muslim, Arab, and South Asian communities.
Excuse me? The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 were “blowback” for the “US/Israeli war?”
The leadership of these unions can’t possibly believe that a majority of their members buy into this left-wing rhetoric. They ought to denounce the radicalism within their ranks, or risk being tainted with it. Or does AFT President Randi Weingarten really believe we deserved what we got on 9/11?
Meanwhile teachers, many of whom are professionals and work hard every day, ought to demand better than the radical positions of their union leaders.

But then again, if union members continue to allow their hard earned pay to be squandered away for frivolous reasons, who am I to complain? There is a phenomenon in nature, and specifically in agriculture that most city folks probably aren't aware of. It is called "Vavilovian mimicry". Essentially, in lay-mans terms, it is where a weed, grows next to a good plant, and mimics it in appearance, shape, color size, etc. Sometimes, through several generations, it is hard to distinguish.

Interesting that your objection focuses on whether American foreign policy intervention is to blame for the 9/11 terror attacks, although this is a documented historical fact in the 9/11 Commission Report.
In fact, the report summary (http://www.9-11commission.gov/report/911Report_Exec.pdf) specifically cites that the attacks occurred "because of American 'occupation' of Islam's holy places and aggression against Muslims" (pg. 7-8).
Please reconsider the basis for your article as contrived outrage will only get you so far… with those unable to think for themselves. Or maybe that was your goal. Who knows.

I worked the entire weekend in order to meet a construction deadline. I, some painters,carpenters and electricians all worked. Deadlines are something that unions are unfamiliar with, Ultimatums are more their style.

But I must say that there is very little said by these union groups, as represented here, that I do not agree with. God did not give Israel to the Jews, England and the U.S. did, especially Harry Truman. There was a little problem, however, there were a lot of people already living there productively working the land. I believe in basic justice and rule of law (against card check, against illegal workers), and giving the Jews the land of other people was not just.

The real reason is exactly what bin Laden says it was. You don't ask a perpetrator of a crime for their motive just to discount it. I think the Muslim populations of the Middle East are put off by American intervention and felt it necessary to retaliate. My point with saying Islam is not the enemy was to illustrate how the religion itself does not call for the murder of "infidels", but that a perversion of the religion can be executed so as to incite violence.

You're sounding like a child with these inane "rupaul" & "dr. K" comments. I'm sick of it, especially now when there's no chance in hell that Paul will run again for President. I disagreed with some of Paul's stances, but he was the most honest person running in EITHER party.
I've lost my notes, but found the website where I found a scapegoat for conservatives. I did the research after a Catholic attacked Ron Paul's character in a certain prominent conservative pundit's forum. If you feel the need to blame anyone but yourself for Obama getting elected, why not put it all on "devout Catholics"? In this article from a Catholic website: What Happened to the Catholic Vote?, it gives numbers on how Catholics voted. As I said, I can't find the figures, (and didn't want to do them again) but if you'll do the math – number of eligible Catholic voters against the total number of votes, etc. factor in "devout" vs. "Catholic in name only" – you'll see that if "devout Catholics" had voted their supposed beliefs – against the party of infanticide – there would've been something like a nine million vote swing the other way.
I read another similar article about Jews. Let's throw them in the mix, too. How 'bout the black people who voted for Obama solely because of his race? I can go on and on about this, but won't.

We need to be consistent. Since it was okay for the UN to create the country of Israel in the Middle East, then they should create a homeland for the Native Americans. I propose that they create it in the deep South and force all the southerners to move away from their homes in order to make room. Then, of course, the Native Americans should have the right of expansion because of "natural growth."

The motivation of the footsoldiers and that of the leadership often differs in war. Some guy who wants to strap a bomb to himself and kill a bunch of Americans for Allah? That is pure Jihad plain and simple. As for BinLaden and the other higher ups? Of course US foreign policy is the reason. He has stated on multiple occassions that his primary issue is U.S. bases in Saudi Arabia, and I've never heard a logical rationalization for why he would lie. Religion is the excuse that politicians and generals use to get privates to put their lives on the line. It's never the actual cause of conflict. Wars are always political, God is just a tool.

I agree with this that it probably contributes, at least to the leaders of the Muslim countries (and other powerful leaders within Islam). I don't think it means we shouldn't be their ally though. Or that it makes it our fault that we were attacked on 9/11/01. (not suggesting you think that it makes it our fault either, just wanted to clarify my opinion for those that go around thumbing down constantly without actually reading or responding to someone's comment in a rational manner).
I'm not so sure many of them would want it. Many of the tribal governments have a pretty sweet deal right now. It is rough for many of the individual people, but their own country wouldn't help that. And those in the south west who were never dislocated from their homes certainly wouldn't be moving to the deep south on the whim of our government. Oh and many are very patriotic and love this country. It wasn't always like that but is in many places now.

Paul didnt mention Israel in his remarks but rather quoted the 9/11 report as saying jihadists seek to attack the USA over our bases and overall presence in Saudi Arabia the Muslim Holy Land.
