No One Steps Forward to Serve in Detroit

And it’s with good reason. A story just released by EAGtv shows that parents have lost confidence in the adult-focused system and its elected leaders.
Detroit Public Schools are among the worst in the country. Dismal student performance, unions run amok and radical activists, like By Any Means Necessary, using the public schools as a platform for their socialist agenda. Glenn Beck featured this socialist on his Fox News show, when the moron pontificated about the virtues of the Soviet Union during the “National Day of Action to Defend Public Education” March 4th.
Detroit Public Schools has been hit with scandal after scandal. Employees stealing funds, the school board president fondling himself in front of the superintendent and a host of other problems and downright pathetic actions have been a distraction, to say the least, from educating children.
And on top of that, employee groups such as the Detroit Federation of Teachers attempt to block every effort by parents to seek alternatives.
Robert Bobb, the appointed Emergency Financial Manager, is attempting to clean up the mess and is engaged in a monumental fight with every interest group, including the elected leaders that should be rallying behind him.
What remains to be seen is if local leaders, the few that actually want to serve (for their own gain?) will be able to survive the parents that rightly have it out for them.

The reason nobody stepped forward to help save Detroit, is that anyone with one scintilla of intelligence knows it is unsalvageable. It hurries Detroit to graduate 25% of their students. I am sure it ranks right down there with a host of third world nations, for its illiteracy rate and social problems.
As a native Michigander who was born in Detroit, I cry to see how far my beautiful city has fallen. When I was a kid, it was a fabulous city. The progressives took hold and destroyed it. It ought to be declared a disaster and everyone involved in the schools (and probably local government) fired. Eliminate the teacher's union and offer a voucher system to each student. Then the parents have some choice and let the free market decide. It still is a long road ahead, but maybe would lead to some improvement
Detroit has become a skeleton of what it used to be. Unions, progressives and handouts have weakened what used to be a bastion of industry. Now, it is being infected with Sharia loving loons.
This is what happens when you suck the life out of productive Americans, leaving only victim parasites in charge. Detroit…a liberal utopia…coming to other failed blue state cities, “hope & change” …whoopee!
They have sucked the American blood out of Detroit and now the communists are gaining influence there as well…

And a body at rest tends to stay at rest. I wonder if they still teach that in school.
And how much public money, you know, the stuff liberals never seem to get enough of, how much TAX money is being wasted on this public school system? Great results for just throwing money at a problem, right? And guess what, according to Obama and the Democrats, the only solution to this problem is? Throw even MORE money down this rat hole. When are the liberals going to understand that simply throwing money at a problem doesn't solve it? And, as the above piece mentions, "Employee groups such as the Detroit Federation of Teachers attempt to block every effort by parents to seek alternatives." Well of course they do. The unions are making so much money off of these failed school systems, they'd be crazy to seek reform. As long as the unions control Detroit, it will be a hopeless mess, and it certainly doesn't deserve anymore Federal tax money.
I declare today "National Day to Defend Home Schooling!" It doesn't take $8,000 per student to teach a child Reading, Writing, Math, Grammar and History. Like I said in previous posts, I educate my children for a few hundred bucks a year and they test very well. My God, we are doomed with this current crop of students 'graduating' after being indoctrinated by progessivism and dumbed down by Outcome based education.
My 13 year old KNOWS what Socialism means, how it has always failed when tried — unlike this idiot with the megaphone.
Time to rise up and feed the Tree. People are going to have to get off the sofa if we want to bandage the wounds. Detroit has become a lazy and useless hulk and many will follow. The union debauchery, teacher ignorance, and statewide complacency have created the ultimate garbage dump. We can clean it up or put all the progressive scum there and let them create their utopia for all to see. Oh wait, it is that failure we witness there today.

We need for people to start making transportation plans with our sick and elderly conservative neighbors and those without transportation in general, unless of course they're liberals.
We need bus and van loads getting to the polls this fall no matter what the weather is on election day.

My husband and I voted with our feet and moved out of the liberal tax hell of the "Eat Cheese and Freeze" state of WI and moved to VA. The only thing I miss are the GB Packers and Beer Battered deep fried fish!

Stop federal funding of public schools and dissolve federal and state departments of education — all started with Carter. Go back to local boards running the schools and local tax payers funding them. Things will change pronto and for the better.

As an immigrant from the former USSR if I heard some moron extolling the virtues of communism I would have had to be restrained from shoving that bullhorn down that leftwing degenerates throat.

The irony to this is that the Soviet Union's students were about 3-4 years ahead of their American counterparts. What they teach in American schools in 12th grade Russians are learning in 9th. Courses that are routine for all students in Russia would be considered AP courses here. The Soviets were also able to educate kids spending maybe a few hundred per student and like I said they were about 4 years ahead of their American counterparts. Here we spend over $10,000 per kid in public schools and we get semi-literate, woefully unprepared future govt employees that frankly were robbed of an education. If $300 per student was good enough for the commies it should be good enough for their ideological cousins, the leftists.
The school system needs to be privatized and people need to start paying directly for their kids education. There is no other way because the government school system is owned lock, stock, and barrel by the radical leftists. People who support their local schools support the system that makes the Detroit Public Schools possible. There's no way to stop this machine from harming millions of children while each of you support and defend your little cog.

The facts are basically irrefutable. I’m getting REALLY sick of the left playing the politics of division and trying to tear conservatives apart. Mitt and Sarah have both been relatively close and certainly cordial for years now. No matter which one of them wins the nomination in 2012, I have no doubt that the other will do whatever they can to help the other become president. Nuttin' Honey! That is, nothing POSITIVE. This school system used to be a good school system, with some very good teachers..prior to the 1967 riots. Those riots,and an affirmative action mentality, where INCOMPETENCE was rewarded and encouraged (based on race, and Dem party affilation) and a dominating union presence served to accelerate Detroit's slide into what you see now : a city that looks more like a bombed out wreck in Iraq or Afghanistan than an American city.

There is a SA indian legend of a beast, a Kothoga that certain tribes could create to kill their enemies. They set it lose on them (the way unions set their members loose in our schools.)

IMO. It'll be difficult, but it can be turned around. For starters, vote EVERY incumbent out of state and federal government…take no prisoners. Next, Michigan need a fiscal hard-ass conservative person like New Jersey's Chris Christie for governor. Then, clone his philosophy and spread out. In a nutshell, to survive economically, the good people of Michigan deserve better and newer conservative leadership. This is indicative of many inner city schools across the nation. Most of the students are unmanageable due to poor parenting and the few people who are willing to work in such environments are more often than not under qualified for the positions only compounding the issue. To add insult to injury the same under qualification issue extends to the school boards and related councils. Many if not most who run for those positions seem to do so for either personal or political purposes and seldom have anything constructive to add. It's not unlike watching a toilet flush where you can see every dollar and child's future going down with the rest.

based on my grasp of mathematical facts and figures.
It could help, maybe, if empty houses or buildings in all neighborhoods were made into schools for lower grades like 1 through 4- small schools,small classes.. Keep them there until they qualify to move on. Give them a good start.. We cannot continue supporting millions of people on welfare. Too much debt now. Must stop.
