WV Teachers Unions Exploit Miners’ Tragedy to Attack Pro-Charter School Democrat
by Kyle OlsonLeave it to teachers unions: they sure know how to be obnoxious at the most inappropriate times.
The West Virginia chapters of the American Federation of Teachers and National Education Association have teamed up with the miners union and the AFL-CIO to produce a television ad attacking Democratic State Sen. Erik Wells.
Like President Obama and his Education Secretary Arne Duncan, Wells supports charter schools. The AFT and NEA do not. Therefore, exploiting the deaths of 29 miners, the unions find Wells unfit for legislative service.
It’s a perfect example of the depth teachers unions will stoop to attack political candidates – even Democratic candidates they traditionally support.

Wells contends that state law already protects mine safety whistleblowers, and no further legislative action is necessary, according to the Charleston Daily Mail. Now the unions want him to pay for that honest opinion.
But why should that stop the teachers unions? What makes this particularly distasteful is watching the teachers unions – who supposedly look out for the interests of teachers – spend their resources to attack a candidate over mine safety.
Here’s an ad idea for the teachers unions: how about one that explains how Wells stands with you in protecting students from bad, ineffective teachers? Oh that’s right, because you don’t do that – you’re stuck in the mud supporting teacher tenure.
We’ve come to realize is teachers unions will use any issue, and any means necessary, to exact revenge on their political opponents. Sadly, a candidate like Erik Wells, who apparently supports choice in education, is among that group.
We’ll have to wait till May 11 to see if voters will hold the teachers unions accountable for such a disgusting attack.
In the meantime, Wells is running a counter attack, apologizing to viewers for having to watch the offensive attack on him. According to MetroNews:
“I basically apologize for viewers that they are watching an ad that is so distasteful and shameful,” he said.
…
“The bill in question, frankly, wasn’t important enough for them to even show up in committee two years ago. But now, in an election year, it is,” Wells said.
While I haven’t seen Wells’ ad, he would serve his constituents well to also point out how the West Virginia teachers unions, in addition to mine safety, don’t give a rip about the kids, either.

You and Eric Wells need to man up Kyle. If American politics is too rough on your delicate sensibilities try selling women's shoes or dog grooming.
Here is the ad:

While I agree that modern American politics is no place for a pantywaist, I question what exactly this has to do with the post. . .By my reading it seems to be an attack on teachers unions for using their funds on an issue that has very little to do with their original purpose. . .your trolling would be much more effective if you could focus on commenting on the actual issue brought up by the author.
I love how the teachers unions always claim that thier union dues don't go towards endorsing politics outside of education. what a crock of horsesh*t from these bastards.
Thor,
Clearly Mik feels Teachers Union Dues wrongly being spent on non Teacher related issues is "American Politics" as it should be.
This may actually be the closest to correct he has ever been. His version IS what passes for "American Politics" today. It is still WRONG, but it is what is happening every day in California and other failing proglodyte utopias.

I am from WV although, fortunately, not subject to this because I'm on the other side of the state. (Unbelievable as it might sound, all of the Delegates from my county are Republican and so is my Congresswoman. In WEST VIRGINIA! Go figure!)
One thing for sure. The teachers and their union show no interest in 'mind' safety. They are running a 50% disaster rating themselves.
What would you know about manning up to anything Mike? You think just because you sat second seat in a bomber makes you a man? Or do you think being a left wing moonbat makes you a man?
I would bet on the latter of the two…!
I also think you most likely speak from experience when you mention the selling of women's shoes and dog grooming, Mikatrollah…!
I am from WV. I watched all my life at how Democrats have run the state, keeping it last in everything you want to be first in. Ands first in everything you want to be last in. They, the Democrats, along with unions, havewrecked the state.
Two years ago I packed up and moved to Texas. Texas is booming. It enjoys job growth, and prosperity as WV sinks.
Texas knows how to do it right! Texas is a very conservative state! Look at the whole country, where Conservatism rules, the state prospers. When Libertals are in charge, the state is in misery. LIBERALISM IS A FAILURE!
conservadiv-the jury is still out on the cause of the spill. The timing is suspect on the heels of Obama's surprise announcement to consider off shore drilling. Eco-terrorist have always been ready, willing and able to serve their cause at any expense. Let's wait until the cause has been determined before we raise our rally cry against big oil, although it's quite chic.
The worm has turned, and they are eating their own. Let 'em eat their fill.
mikatollah-
Olson and Wells said the add was in poor taste-
and it was.
They didnt say that the unions didnt have the right to make an add that exploits the death of the miners-
they do, and they did.
So you just keep pussying up and get back to doing what your best suited for-
sucking c0ck for crack money.
Perhaps, but I can't stand the Texas climate. I have family there, but I need mountains and seasons. And since I live in the Eastern Panhandle, life is pretty good here.
There will be charge to abolish the Unions… America is watching you.
Union is now the code word for organized crime.
Yes the timing of this oil-spill is suspect, i will wait an see also, i hope the government doesnt doctor the reports.
There has got to be a way the wit on this site can be bottled,…………….
the money that would pour in would make a lot of folks rich,………….
Mickey sure has a way of sticking his but out ther,………ay thorschariot
unions = big money = corruption
So Mickey you are a supporter of teachers unions and against charter schools? Gotta keep the kids stupid so they will end up dependent on the state and loyal democract voters.

I agree with the one comment. Look at the eco-terrorists for the cause of the explosion.
Someone I work with visits your site quite often and recommended it to me to read too. The writing style is great and the content is interesting. Thanks for the insight you provide the readers!
Yes, it is now becoming clear that the cause of this oil spill is…. none other than the president himself!
wibble wibble wibble it's planet earth calling, take off your tinfoil hat it is safe to do so now.
Doesn't the argument of the Teachers' Union always comes down to "Give us what we want or we'll hurt your kids."
Of course, the public sector unions demanding higher taxes (lower disposable income for taxpayers) to pay for their raises and generous benefits are essentially arguing: "You should take a pay cut so we can have a raise."
The only way they achieve their ends is by deceit and exploitation. As Coolidge said, “There is no right to strike against the public safety by anybody, anywhere, any time” — I would replace "public safety" with "public weal."
You are not just a Troll, but a Idiot Troll, Russia wants more comrades, you are a Nazi, go home.
