Sunlight on SEIU Part III: Understand Media Matters’ Funding, Understand Media Matters Targets
by Kyle OlsonMedia Matters has operated as a vile organization attacking all things non-progressive: Republicans, Tea Partiers, conservatives, non-progressive media. So it should come as no surprise that Media Matters’ ire rises most when its funders are attacked.
Most notably, Media Matters will trash all things non-progressive and in turn, its funders will cite Media Matters. Case in point? AFL-CIO’s Rich Trumka recently gave a speech in which he said, “We are working to counter the Glenn Beck effect and turn anger into action for real change.”
AFL-CIO then linked to a Media Matters article about Fox News. Additionally, Media Matters promoted its funder’s speech before a Harvard University audience.
Another? Media Matters has consistently defended SEIU.
An Investor’s Business Daily editorial advanced the false claim that Andy Stern, president of Service Employees International Union (SEIU), “is the most frequent visitor to the White House.” Moreover, IBD attacked Stern for saying, “[W]orkers of the world unite (is) not just a slogan anymore; it’s a way we are going to have to do our work,” and claimed, “In SEIU’s worldview, there is no room for dissent. Karl Marx, call your office”; however, IBD ignored that Stern has also said it’s “good news” that “communism’s dead.”
Consider this small group of funders:
- Service Employees International Union – 10/09 and 11/09 – $50,000
- National Education Association – 8/19/09 – $100,000
- AFL-CIO – 10/23/08 – $25,000
Perhaps the best way to get on Media Matters’ good side is to throw them a little coin. I wonder if they have a Muscle for Money program like ACORN did?

That defense of Stern was pathetic on every level.

When the Secret service did a security sweep of the oval office, they found some of Andy Stern's hair in the kneewell of our dear leader's desk. I think he's already found himself a position.
Yeah… and who the hell quotes the Communist Manifesto? I mean, besides a communist.
All of us need to take a page from Glenn Beck's book and go after these people. We CANNOT sit on the sidelines anymore and wait for someone more prominent to do our work for us. Folks like Glenn should inspire us, but we need to be the ones who inspire our kids and our grandkids to fight against these abuses of government power.

Great article! I have been wondering for some time who funds MM. I usually visit the site a few times a week, just to see them attack Beck & Rush on a minutely basis. MM posts nearly the same crap every day – Beck said this outrageous thing. Rush said this hateful thing. Then there will be 6-12 boring, inane insults hurled at the subject of the post. I don't understand why 99% of these posts are there. I used to troll there, but after I while I realized the only post that was worth placing was this. "I refuse to enter a battle of the wits with you –it's against my morals to attack an unarmed person." Can we determine if the posters are paid to comment on their posts, just to make it look like SOMEONE, ANYONE follows MM at all?
Republican is code word for "Socialist with a different moral vision for America than Democrats, but still a Big Gov't loving politican."
If Obama ever has a "Blue Dress" moment, we should swab Andy Stern's cheek for the comparison sample.

Hi guys, I live in Alabama and though conservatism/anti-union populism is all the rage here and I am kinda conservative on defense issues (meaning we should not get involved in meddling with 3rd world dictatorships), I joined the union at my factory and I make $10/hour more than my old fart anti-union counterparts. I get vision, health and dental while they get nothing.
So please do not knock union til you’ve tried it!
Get back to us in five years and tell us if you have a job or if the company is still in business. Also let us know when that doofus gets promoted ahead of you due to seniority. Oh and just wait until they give YOUR money to some political cause that you don't support.
One other thing….your 'not get involved with 3rd world dictatorships' is not conservative. Learn what conservatism actually is before you speak.

The only thing this tells me is these fools either don't know what communism actually is, or like the name of 'liberal' they are bastardizing it due to it's negative connotations.
It's all in the name with these progressive organizations.
Take the name of one and contradict it to get a more accurate
description of the organization.

Today the unions do not represent their members – they typically are examples of abuse. They spend members money on things the members do not support and underfund the things that were promised to members. Media Matters is one of many examples. I am thankful to BigGovernment that they brought it forward. Problems can not be solved if people do not know about the problems – people need to share this information. Believe me word of mouth is more powerful than any other form of communications; word of mouth is looked for by businesses.
Media Matters' may want people to believe that they are unimportant that one person can not do anything. It is not true – your voice carries more weight to those you know than tons of effort by the media.
September 6th is Labor Day , and hearing all this, somehow celebrating the birth of unions just isn't very appealing anymore. Shouldn't we use that day to reverse the old fashioned idea of unions? They have overstayed their welcome. The unions help bring down the economic powerhouse city of Detroit. Certainly not a cause for celebration anymore.
