Frances Fox Piven: Glenn Beck Seeks ‘Foreign, Dark-Skinned, Intellectual’ Scapegoats
by Kyle OlsonThroughout much of 2009, Glenn Beck extensively covered the “Cloward-Piven Strategy” that was first brought into the public domain in a May 1966 article in The Nation magazine. In the article, Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, two Columbia professors, developed a strategy by which the welfare system could be overwhelmed with demand, broken, and replaced with a “guaranteed annual income.”
Beck has successfully made the argument that the Cloward-Piven Strategy was a blueprint for success at overwhelming that system. Don’t think it worked? Ask the leaders of New York City. The strategy worked so well, the mass rush for welfare benefits bankrupted the city in the 1970s.
So as Beck has brought new light to this strategy, no one has asked Frances Fox Piven’s opinion. Until now.
Piven dismisses Beck’s opinion as “silly.” But she also went a step farther.
“So, it’s an old technique of right-wing ideologues – finding a scapegoat, somebody preferably who is not a farmer, right, an intellectual, and attributing things that go wrong in American society to somebody who’s foreign or dark skinned or an intellectual.”
Actually, that’s what’s silly. So anyone that’s “foreign or dark skinned or an intellectual” can’t be to blame? That’s convenient insulation but not very believable.

This isn't unusual or even stupid to discount the wisdom of your political enemies. "Belief" often trumps "knowledge" in political games. People don't really care to be told or be reminded that they are making bad decisions. They want to hear that they are good and smart and loyal red white and blue patriotic Americans. The customer or voter is always right even when they are wrong. In the end the voters will vote you out and shout down the political opposition.
Ironically they often eventually adopt the polices to which they expressed opposition but by golly they "ain't" gonna vote for the person who suggested it to them.

If anything good comes of our economic crisis I'm hoping it's this: that we discover that we can't afford to pay for people to get vanity liberal arts degrees anymore. Under this particular solution, any person who wishes to get a degree in condescension towards his fellow man may pay for that degree himself. Any and all federal dollars that may have gone to degrees like that can then be applied to to degrees useful to society like medicine or engineering.

They say if you can remember the 60's you weren't there. Well, I'm 60 now, and a veteran of the Vietnam war. I was there with bells on. I can remember the 60's just fine. I remember the 1968 Columbia University protests. I remember SDS (students for a democratic society). I can assure you those students were not satisfied living in a Republic. They wanted democratic rule and nothing more (but perhaps less: such as anarchy). They sure did not want to live within the confines of the law. I can remember SDS leader Mark Rudd encouraging lawlessness and making demands during illegal occupations of campus offices. I remember the anarchy. This is the environment these so-called "intellectuals" surrounded themselves with, and they loved every minute of it. I think "intellectual" is far to kind and grandiose a term to apply here. Personally, I would prefer terms like, hypocrite, arrogant, elitist, un-American, conceited, snob, pompous, shallow, and a long list of other less flattering, self-congratulatory descriptive adjectives.

While Beck says unflattering things about her, his comments are almost entirely directed at her belief system and ideals.
These people are so full of themselves, they have lost any connection to reality. They really believe the stuff they're saying, believing it to be profound and wrapping it up in an 'everybody knows this is true' attitude. They see the gathering pitchforks coming over the horizon and haven't the slightest clue as to what it means.
For all you non-foreign, non-dark-skinned, non-intellectuals, it's real easy to decode Ms Piven's remarks, George did it.
I had to look up her strategy and wasn't aware of Becks covering it. But I immediately had one very strong impression when I watched this. To heck with her rambling and incoherent babbling- her body language screams deception. When initially asked directly if its true she not only diverts her eyes but dips her head in some sort of a classic avoidance gesture. She just doesn't appear comfortable with denying the accusation, and continues to dip and roll throughout her answer as she cites one illogical reason and strawman after another to try and support it. My guess is that she is secretly very pleased that her theory has been recognized and she has probably avidly followed the success of her strategies many times over the years in different locations around the country with pride. The question that WE should have is whether you can continue to fool populations with your lies when they are now aware of your strategy.
Robert slow a bit, in the depth of meaning department. She states it was an observation of what was going on at the time and a plan. Then she mocks the right for believing the plan she created based on the landscape of the day worked. So either she was intellectual dishonest at the time stating it was not a plan but merely an observation (analysis rather then a theoretical paper), or she is lying now, and it never was a plan just a coincidence that she would like to take credit for while simultaneously denying her role. Intellectually dishonest and schizophrenic in reasoning. Now troll along.
Oh, and one other thing that I forgot to add was that "face touching" is used by loss prevention people to indicate deception.

As per usual, the simplest way to defeat these arguments is to ask "What did you hear him say that proves this assertion?" They then fail for 2 reasons:
1) they haven't listened to the person they are defaming
2) the defamed person never said anything that proves their point

The only problem I could see is that if there were a "Men's Studies" department in 99% of universities, it would teach the same thing as it's counterpart, that is, that men all suck and women are all their victims, and that the only solution is Marxism.

Intellectual has come to be a pejorative term. They are "learned" people but don't really know anything. One of my friends likes to say he is "not college uneducated". I heard a marine on the radio say he had a PhD – Plain high school diploma. Still another reason to judge everyone on individual merit…

ALL the government handouts are putting us in debt, look at Medicare, Social Security, (that is right, people get more in social security than they pay in to it.) This would of ended it,I was all for it because Bush new the Government was spending it up. It got shot down and now the Government has to borrow the money to pay it out. In Philly people that get SSI wich is a form of social security can get it easily. I know people who get ssi that don't deserve it and people who are disable and are young and need it have a hard time getting it. I submit that she is an intellectual. Intellectuals are the only group of people who's only byproduct are ideas, and when those ideas fail there is no cost to them or those who support them. Society at large is safe as long as they stay within the general boundaries of their intellectual specialties and aren't allowed to teach in any education system. Of course, that's where they gravitate.
Consider Noam Chomsky, the father of modern linguistics, who has become known more widely as a political dissident, an anarchist, and a socialist intellectual. Consider FDR's Brain Trust and the hell they wreaked upon the economy, and the social engineering they perpetrated in the name of advancing societies lot. Consider Lennon, Stalin, Hitler…et, al.
The Cloward-Piven Strategy was/is part of that big picture subversive approach the progressive intellectuals have been perpetrating for a hundred years. Unfortunately, this woman has worked within the "system" of education for decades, she is a "distinguished" Professor of Political Science and Sociology. Our education system has been overrun with her ilk and worse, and several generations have been subject to their indoctrination.

They invariably resort, in an attempt to control the conversation, to raising their voices and throwing around emotionally charged buzz words. Any future attempts to engage them in honest, open discussion results in silence. A good dose of humility is what we all need from time to time but the hardened leftist ideologue always takes a chance to learn as a slap in the face.

We "ignore and not consider the depth of meaning in her words"? This isn't freaking poetry! Get over yourself. The English language uses words with defined meanings that are strung together in sentence structure and then organized into paragraphs. It’s REAL easy to make a point that is clear, concise and understandable and does not require plunging the depths of the words meanings to find the point, especially for such an intellectual giant as Ms Piven.

Here’s how easy it is: Look it was merely an analysis of the Progressive political movement in the 1960’s. It was never meant to be a “roadmap” to political change. The class is to be discontinued, as far as I know, this year because the professor is taking a position at another school to teach Women Studies with his wife & their boyfriend (no joke).
As long as you could show that you paid attention and could give an intelligent argument, he was OK with that you didn't agree. It was the students that just regurgitated the dialog but could not give reasons for or against that had problems in the class.
Side note, Zinn would easily get side tracked, he had an assistant that would actually go up to him & put him back on track.

A simple example: they want to drive the system down by sucking all the 'relief' dollars out of the system but if the IRS accepted IRS Form 1099-GOV for all this money and required to treat it as the "redistributed" INCOME that it is, we'd see much less of it. When Texas went from paper food stamps to the LoneStar card to reduce fraud close to 100,000…ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND…families decided they didn't want to get caught up in that. Imagine the shock if they were required to actually file an IRS (Income Reporting Service) form!

As some of you may know (especially the closet Foxnews viewers among us), Glenn Beck has been on a tirad for over six months demonizing Frances Fox Piven and Richard Cloward as the brains beyond Barack Obama's attempt to intentionally throw the society into crisis and force the US to move to a communist government. Yes, that's right, political discourse has gone totally off the rails in hunt of a scapegoat for our troubles. Beck keeps talking about the Weimar Republic and how the crisis led to National Socialism (i.e., Nazism). What he seems to not notice is that his demonizing of Frances is a classic Nazi strategy to blame our economic problems on an intellectual, a Jew, etc.

This link has been previously posted here and there by the more attentive members of the viewing public. Frances, however, has not responded or said much about this ongoing attack until now.
