Dems’ Health Care Strategy: Seek Forgiveness Instead of Permission
by Kyle OlsonConsider this irony: Democrats and their special interest allies are in the fight of their lives to keep the seat formerly held by the champion of socialized medicine in the bluest of states. Democrats should be tap dancing on the foreheads of Republicans in Massachusetts. But instead, they’re racing against the clock for a deal on health care reform because they run the risk of losing their critical 60th vote in just a few days.
So the Democrats strategy is clear: seek forgiveness of American voters in November instead of permission now because the probable message from Tuesday’s election will not be in favor of ObamaCare. Democrats are “hoping” to have an overall deal on health care reform, the tax-dodging Ways and Means committee chairman Charlie Rangel told NationalJournal.com, just in time to avoid the Tuesday Massachusetts vote.
The Huffington Post quoted SEIU vice president Anna Burger as saying, “Let’s go on and actually pass this bill.” Anna’s wish is, of course, this White House’s command.
The special election this week in Massachusetts can easily be viewed as a referendum on Obama, his policies and specifically government-run health care. And in a state that is navy blue, it’s a dog fight, with SEIU stepping in to plop down over $600,000 for TV ads savaging Republican candidate Scott Brown. And RedState.com reported House Democrats are spending beaucoup bucks to elect a Democrat to the Senate. It’s pure panic time for Democrats in Washington.
But they’re working as fast as they can to make health care reform a non-issue by the time the newest senator from Massachusetts is seated.
And worse still, more giveaways are emerging from Washington, DC but this time, not to lawmakers but to campaign-funding special interest groups. News broke Thursday afternoon that Democratic leaders had “negotiated” a compromise with labor leaders over the so-called “Cadillac” tax. They must have made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.
The New York Post said it well in Friday’s edition:
Big Labor got some big love from President Obama and congressional Democrats yesterday after they agreed to exempt union workers from the whopping “Cadillac tax” on high-cost health-care plans until 2018.
The sweetheart deal, hammered out behind closed doors, will save union employees at least $60 billion over the years involved, while others won’t be as lucky — they’ll have to cough up almost $90 billion.
So Andy Stern can go back to his members and say, “See what our $60 million investment in electing Obama got us?”
And CNN.com reported that, “AFL-CIO chief Richard Trumka has made looking out for all workers — not just union members — a big part of his platform.” What a peach! That must be why benefits negotiated through collective bargaining were exempted but not those for non-union workers. Way to look out for everyone, Richie!
The Post also reported:
Powerful unions were well-represented around the bargaining table.
Participants included AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka and Andy Stern, head of Service Employees International Union; Anna Burger, head of Change to Win [and SEIU vice president]; and the leaders of unions representing teachers, government workers, food and commercial workers, and electricians.
Isn’t that great? Obama’s pledge to rid the special interests from the halls of power seems to be more than a little phony these days – it’s bordering on insulting.
This Christmas Tree for campaign funders and liberal groups is the skunk at the garden party for Americans. And the bad thing for Democrats is this time, Americans know it. And in all likelihood, the Democrats know it too and that’s why they’re scrounging up a compromise because the wheels may fall off Tuesday.

I didn't vote for any of these Marxists, I didn't give them permission to usurp our God given liberty, and I most certainly will not forgive them for it.
With numerous states already exempting themselves from this disaster, and many state attorney generals about to file federal suits, I cannot understand why the big push. If this is found (I believe it will be) unconstitutional this is a big waste of time and money on nothing. The Dems will be hurt for years to come for attempting a coup of this country when the public wants nothing to do with this. I hope common sense will prevail and this will not pass in its present form. Reform healthcare, yes, not re-do our freedoms. We don't have enough prisons now so when you don't pay for this mess, where are they going to put you? Are you going to have to wear an ankle bracelet if let out early? That how stupid this whole thing is!! STOP NOW and start over

The constant push by Democrats for Obamacare in light of the fact that the majority of Americans don't want this monstrosity is evidence of the strangle hold by special interests on the Executive and Legislative branches. Bordering? When 7% of the population is the only 7% that the Pres gives a damn about, when it's the 7% he will consult and pacify at the People and *MY* country's expense – I bypass 'bordering on insulted'. Well, for me and a lot like me… it's STOP NOW, NOT YOUR CONCERN, the Federal Government has not the authority nor the mandate to provide health care reform to any of us. Remove the shackles on the insurance industry and the market will even out. Then State by State, something can be worked out for the ones who fall through the cracks or are uninsurable.
Lose the Mass. seat, but push this unconstitutional, illegally formed Health care bill through any way, and Obama and the democrats will go down as the most hated administration in American history. Oh ya…and the people WILL revolt!

The problem with there thinking is that, not only are the American people disgusted with what the Liberal Dems are doing in Washington, but they are even more angry at the way state and local Liberal's have destroyed entire state economies. Just look at our home state of Illinois. The people I talk with are even more fed up (I know that doesn't seem possible) with the in-state Liberals than they are with the morons in DC. There is nothing they can do that will overcome this fact………..Maybe there is hope for Illinois????

One of the main thrusts of the socialist/marxist agenda is to replace God with their own "messiah", to grant privileges to "the people", in place of rights. Privileges which can be revoked at any time by a nameless, faceless bureaucrat from afar. Conservatives, on the other hand, believe in One True God(for the most part) and cannot put themselves in the place of God. The end result being that we are not the judge of these reprehensible creatures and we don't have to forgive them, that's up to God. We just have to not hate them, and, unfortunately, that is becoming increasingly harder by the day as we witness the destruction of our country piece by piece…..

Exactly right. It unconscionable that these so called representatives still intend to force through such an unpopular bill. What is worse is that there are still plenty of people out there that support these cretins despite their willingness to ignore the will of the people.
I for one will pray that Brown wins if only to highlight to the rest of the voters how disinterested these politicians are in the will of the people.

Actually, rights, as stated by our Founding Fathers when crafting the Constitution, are God-given and cannot be taken away by man(as long as you are a law-abiding citizen). Privileges(such as your drivers license, etc.) are given to you by the State and can be revoked at any time, without immediate recompense. Thanks for the reply ……… Hanzo

This 2000+ page monstrosity, allows the Executive Branch MORE power, than the Congress or the Judiciary.
Laws that cannot be made by Congress, or do not meet Const guidelines, are OFF limits to the Judiciary's purview for the most part.
The reason for this being done IN SECRET, is because if WE Knew all that it will do to out Const, BOR's, and Our Amendments…………………we would revolt.
The Exec Branch was given specific duties, and guidelines………CZARS, UNDER the NEW plan, can end game the other Branches.

Once Scott Brown wins, should the House pass the Senate bill on hope's of changes later, does the Reid language needing 2/3rd vote have any effect in modification? I'm thinking it was 2/3rd for repeal; but never seen the language. Also InTrade currently has Brown at 77 and Coakley at 23; either the money knows something or someone is gaming the trade….
Juan Williams was out last week giving the Democrat talking point about how even if they pass this bill that the American people don't want or like, that they will love it after they get used to it., after all, Americans love entitlements. Unfortunately I live in New York State and we will probably second to last for a regime change. NJ spoke volumes with their Governorship race. Chucky Cheese Schumer is deeply rooted, Gillibrand not so much.There is voter remorse all around me which is a promising sign. Obama bumper stickers are mysteriously disappearing left and right. I speak my mind in a cordial fashion and hope some sanity will sink in. Scott Brown has my support (sent him a few bucks) and will win. Checks and Balances!

You see, Congress cannot grant you Rights without a Constitutional Amendment so they are trying to use this as a stepping stone to re-write the Constitution. Obama has said it himself, he stated that the Constitution is of "negative liberties" (in this case, negative=GOOD), what the government CANNOT do to you like forcing you to buy a specific product . Progressives want to re-write the Constitution with "positive liberties" (positive=BAD), what the government CAN do to you like telling you what you can & cannot eat, what time you will go to bed, where you will work, how much you can money you can make. In other words, they want an oligarchy with them in permanent control.
