America Exports Socialist Ideas to Venezuela

News is Venezuelan brute Hugo Chavez has created a “new chain of government-run, cut-rate retail stores that will sell everything from food to cars to clothing from places such as China, Argentina and Bolivia,” according to Breitbart.com:
Chavez said the Comerso chain of stores will include “a network of subsidiaries” that will sell new vehicles directly imported from China and Argentina, “without capitalist intermediaries.”
“We’re going to defeat speculation. Private individuals in sales can still sell, but they’ll have to compete with us and with a people who is now fully aware,” Chavez said.
Gee, where have I heard that before? Oh yeah! That kind of sounds like the talking points from the Democrats government-option proposal.
Consider what White House spokesman Robert Gibbs has said:
As he [the president] said to Congress and the nation in September, he supports the public option because it has the potential to play an essential role in holding insurance companies accountable through choice and competition.
And Senate Finance Committee chairman Max Baucus:
I included a public option in the health reform blueprint I released nearly one year ago, and continue to support any provision, including a public option, that will ensure choice and competition and get the 60 votes needed to pass the Senate.

The public option has new life because as Americans have learned more about it, they have come to see it is the best way to reduce costs and increase competition in the health insurance industry.
A statement released by the Service Employees International Union said:
We must hold insurance companies accountable:
If the insurance companies win, we lose. Insurance companies must be held accountable with strong regulations and consumer protections, and we must be given the choice of a national public health insurance option available on day one.
Last but not least, Richard Kirsch, campaign manager for the ACORN/SEIU-led Healthcare for America Now:
We applaud Majority Leader Reid’s leadership in making sure the Senate bill includes a public health insurance option to lower costs and inject much-needed competition into the health insurance marketplace.
Chavez seems to be taking a page out of the Obama’s “How to Fundamentally Transform America” playbook. If the government doesn’t like a particular aspect of the private sector, take it over, pledge “competition” and grind the free market into the dirt. Congratulations President Obama, you’ve just discovered the new American export.

Venezuela's Comerso is just a Latin version of the American company store, aka WALMART.
Chavez doesn't need the US to show him socialism, he has it down pat. It's more like Obama and Company are following Venezuela down the path to destruction.

Are we living in bizarro world? Schumer is delusional … no one in their right mind wants government run health care. Max Baucus is a drunk who along with most of the "Ds" has sold his soul to the unions, trial lawyers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and insurance companies.
You want competition and reform? Start with tort reform; shut down the ambulance chasing scumbag lawyers, allow ( or mandate that) insurance companies to compete across state lines; open up the sale of drugs from Canada and elsewhere, audit the unions and suspend their favored tax status, end campaign contributions from special interests.
There are a few months left to get yourself good and mad, rile up your friends and neighbors, and then vote these weasels out of office.
What else would you expect. I'm sure that, if he could, Obama would give Chavez a key position in his administration. Who knows, in a few years, after he forces the North American Union down our throats and declares himself supreme dictator, maybe he could give Chavez that job after all.

We haven't had a free market system in this country for many decades.
As a matter of fact, we haven't had a functioning constitution in this country for many decades.
Where was the Constitutional authority permitting the Federal government to establish the behemoth Ponzi scheme known as Social Security? There wasn't any. In fact, the Supreme Court threatened to veto it, along with many other pieces of legislation in FDR's progressive agenda. FDR and the lapdogs in Congress threatened to appoint more justices to dilute the existing justices, and give FDR enough of a majority to do whatever he wanted.
Since then, the size, scope, and failure of government have metastasized to truly incredible proportions.
Anyone who wants to blame free markets, capitalism, or our Constitutional freedoms for the current mess is living in a fantasy land. Those things have not existed in this country for decades.
Freedom didn't fail. It was usurped and vanquished by the progressive movement. The progressive movement owns this failure, dating back nearly 80 years, just as Obama owns the failures from his own policymaking, which began January 20th, 2009.

The progressive movement is based on the idea that need creates an enforceable lien against anything which could be taken to lessen it.
Under such reasoning, everything of yours belongs to the government, based on their ability to tax in the name of fairness, not reimbursement. That which they do not take, under such a system, is not yours by right, but rather, an illusion that private property still exists so long as they need you to continue producing with efficiency.
Once the progression of technology and the accumulation of capital in the hands of the state renders above-average motivation unnecessary, then the government has no reason to let you keep anything at all, above and beyond that which is required to keep you a marginally productive but wholly passive servant to the ruling class.

It worked very well for Ford for about 12 years: black was the only color at the time which could be subjected to accelerated drying; and of course mass-production was simplified.
Besides, Ford's whole idea with the Model T was to make the ultimate no-frills car, far cheaper than any competitor. But if you didn't like black, there were over thirty other American carmakers to choose from. In other words, competition.
