More Gasbaggery from the American Federation of Teachers
by Kyle OlsonWhen we received a threatening letter a few days ago from the American Federation of Teachers over AFTexposed.com, we knew it was little more than bluster - the typical bullying that the AFT has come to be known for.
I mean, who else could loge personal threats at a “Rally for Respect” (of all things!) against the chancellor of DC Public Schools, Michelle Rhee, right in the heart of the city, and get away with it?
Needless to say, the baseless threats continue from the country’s second largest teachers’ union.
Now comes another letter from October 21, in which the union has apparently dropped its demand for us to stop using the acronym ‘AFT.’ They’re also no longer calling for us to turn over the domain registration to them. Hopefully the General Counsel of the union, David Strom, saw how absurd and downright pathetic his demand was.
But, they do want an AFT-drafted disclaimer on the site. We currently have:
Welcome to AFTexposed.com, a website exposing the agenda, finances, and tactics of the American Federation of Teachers. As a result of a threatened lawsuit by the AFT, let us be patently clear: the American Federation of Teachers does not like this site.
If that isn’t clear enough, I don’t know what is. And as our excellent attorney from the Institute for Justice, Clark Neily, said in response: “…the [Education Action Group] Foundation declines your invitation to reword it.”
Neily finished the October 22 response letter by saying:
Finally, it appears that we have much different understandings of the law in this area. I would therefore appreciate it if you would provide citations to relevant case law in future correspondence, as I did in my October 16 letter to you. Otherwise, this begins to look less and less like a good-faith dispute over the contours and limits of federal trademark law and more like a naked attempt to intimidate and punish an ideological rival for exercising its constitutionally protected right to free speech.
In my personal view, it is time for the AFT to put up or shut up. Sue us or leave us alone.
The Institute for Justice has been spot-on throughout this goonish ordeal. I liken it to the nerd has not only just beat up the bully, but he’s also said, “Oh, and by the way, I’ll take your lunch money now.”
We do look at this harassment as a good thing. Every minute the union is pestering us over our website that apparently is embarrassing to them (ie. 2009 funding to ACORN), it’s one less minute it is strong-arming school boards, stifling parental choice or putting employees’ needs first.

"the American Federation of Teachers does not like this site." Then what? They don't believe in the truth? Maybe not with all the crap they try to feed children like the Inconvenient Putz movie. Remember, they work for us!!
Just read the letter and they have more VP's than qualified teachers in the group! If you don't like being made fun of and exposed then clean up your crappy shop AFT who can't and do not teach. Do you think your wages are for babysitting services? When the children are properly educated you may earn Americans respect. NOT BEFORE.

American teachers can break the backs of big labor and they must. Don't be fooled. These teachers unions are endorsing homosexuality in the schools, and a million other things most American teachers would never support, and they are using teacher dues to do it. Get off the train. get rid of the Unions.
So what. Tell those Commie, Fascist teachers to shove it. That just shows the typical liberal response: dissent is the highest form of patriotism, unless you disagree with men, and then dissent isn’t allowed. What hypocrites. Like almost everyone on the Left. Viva classical liberalism.

I for one have left an 18 year career in network TV news to become a school teacher. Go figure? I am a conservative – I make Ronald Reagan look centrist. So, why a teacher? I'm doing it BECAUSE of stories like this. We cannot turn things around if liberals control all the fronts. I figure FOX already has their attention in the media – I will take the battle elsewhere. But please don't crucify all teachers with the AFT. There are many political views among teachers – this is not a bad thing. What's bad is the union left-wing agenda and attempts to silence opposing voices.
In short: "teachers" not equal to "teachers union." They do not speak for all of us.
I heard that AFT is going to sue Webster's Dictionary for including words like after, rafter, and DAFT.

As a recently retired veteran of forty years in the clssroom and a fifth generation conservative voter I can only say that the AFT’s agenda is rational compared to the National Education Association’s marxist lunatics, the demented Goliath of teacher’s unions.

Hmmm, I can only speak for my own interactions with the 2, but I found the AFT much more militant and Marxist than the NEA. However, the NEA never represented us although they tried to organize us.
I've been wondering about that a bit. We haven't heard much about them lately, and they are as you say Goliath.
Please add to this website the textbooks that have lies that are taught to children. The socialistic leanings in the minds of our young. It is no wonder Obama turned out the youth vote. Get it?
The AFT isn't going to sue. The amount of harassment is proof of that. They have a flimsy at the best case if they did try, probably a 1% chance of being successful.
When I was in college my instructor for a law class was a pretty good attorney. One of his rules of thumb he taught us was that the more someone threatens to sue you, the less chance they will because it shows that their case is weak and that they are just trying to get their way through intimidation. Push back and they usually back off.
Speaking of AFT and their political agenda, it’s hard to tell but I think the President is their ally.

And that is a complete outrage. Unions were always intended and sold as voluntary membership organizations. I've never encountered a union where these lofty ideals exist.

I belonged to the electrician's union for 40 years….When I changed my political view during the Carter era, I submitted a form to my union to not use any portion of my dues towards any political work(s). That has to be honored. It's quite fair to say that Union Groups are socialist in word, actions & deeds; but are hiding under the name of Democrat. It was intended that our National Policies should operate as a Christian Republic.
The worse the school does, the more money it needs. Just wait for GM to do bad and govt. health care to do bad, I wonder what will happen. I'm convinced Obama doesn't understand economics. He did say thats what he has Valerie Jarrett for, guess shes a real economic genius too.

You are right…and it must have been done recently because I was on it about an hour ago and it was fine. They probably didn't like the links that I commented about decertifying a union.
And now it is working again.
41 states to date have passed right to work laws so honest Americans don't have to join these socialist organizations called unions.Who ever thought that laws would have to be passed so Americans could get jobs without having to pay for them?
The past nine months have been a rough ride for most right thinking Americans.But good has also come out of this mess.Americans who know that we live in the greatest country in the world regardless of party afiliation have woke up to career politicians legislating for special interest and not for what's best for this country.It's started happening slowly but surely,incumbants are falling.

I am with you there. I am also a conservative teacher who has taken on the battle against the liberal unions. Many of the teachers in my school feel the same way.
You know. I attended public schools during my eduction in the 70s and 80s. And, looking back on it, I damn near turned gay. It wasn't for the reasons you suggest, though. It was because the administrators and teachers made me bend over so much.
You know, the Federal Government bends me over all the time too. I bet they are in cohoots with the AFT.

Acorn is corrupt to its heart! It needs to be fully investigated and every gorup afiliated with it as well as the politains who support it. where there is smoke there is fire and the house is burning down around Acorn. Stop the funding on all levels demand all moneies be returned to the tax payers and put the gulty in jail starting with the founders and the top staff. I would not surprise me to find Obama recieved illegal funds from Acorn to help get him elected tot he senate. First he claimed that he had nothing to do with Acorn then he said he only had a small role in some small lawsuit then he was found out to be it main Chicago council. Wake up America! Stop letting yourself be lied to. Demand the corruption stop. until you do nothing will change!
