Speaker at D.C. Union Rally Threatens DC School Chief Michelle Rhee
by Kyle OlsonOur stomachs turned a bit this morning when we watched a YouTube video of part of last weekend’s DC AFT rally in Washington, D.C. You can see it here:
The event was billed as the “Rally for Respect.” If the AFT wants respect, we respectfully submit the following suggestions:
Number one – Stop threatening people. During the rally, an unidentified male speaker was clearly heard on the video threatening D.C. school Chancellor Michelle Rhee. “Michelle Rhee had better watch her back,” the large, angry man chanted into the microphone. That clearly sounds like a physical threat, typically used by street gangs. His next few words were not clear, but then he added something about “She’s going down.”
Perhaps Ms. Rhee would be wise to contact D.C. police. Union thugs may very well have her on their target list. How disturbing.
Number two – Stop opposing every reform proposal that comes along. The American people, including our president and education secretary, are demanding more school choices for students and more accountability from teachers. This is a national movement that’s gaining momentum by the day. Only the unions are standing in the way. If you want respect, start acting like education professionals and stop opposing efforts to improve educational opportunities for our kids.
Number three – Stop calling for an end to the valuable D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program, a voucher initiative that allows children to escape horrible schools in your city.
Number four – Drop your ridiculous lawsuit that’s attempting to block teacher layoffs in D.C. Public schools are broke and cuts have to be made somewhere. If you want to save some jobs, adjust your wage and benefit demands, so there will be more money to keep a few more teachers working.
In the meantime, don’t be surprised at the lack of respect your organization is getting from the public these days. You stand for a time that has passed, when public schools were employee-based, not student-based. The American public will not accept that any longer. Join us as we search for ways to make our schools better, or just get out of the way.

It is of the utmost IRONY that like minded (at least politically) minorities and AFT union members are at odds over the school voucher program that is so needed by DC families. IT;s a wonerful opportunity for minority children to receive a quality education by QUALIFIED non-AFT teachers. I think the minorities are starting to FINALLY wake up about the racist policies of the Democrats. Oh ! And let's see…. the most VOCIFEROUS RACIST of them all pulled the charter school funding from the DC district….

I was in DC when Rhee was selected. The uproar from the Union lasted for weeks. I particularly enjoyed it when she said one of the first items on her agenda was to fire about half of the DC Schools administration.
There was a reason I lived in Maryland and not DC.

was over the top. Typically, street gangs breathe air and eat food too, but just because they do it doesn’t make it gang-related.

What influenced me early on was a MEA (Michigan Education Association) union meeting held in our office complex. When they were done the parking lot was trashed with food bag, empty bottles, cigarettes etc. The owner sued the MEA and secured a judgement. What a political disaster for the MEA…too funny.. Pigs !

I hate teacher unions, I always have. They are ruining the public education system in this country because they oppose accountability for the teachers..to make sure they are really teaching and doing it well.
And that they care more about teachers paychecks than they do about kids learning….the future of our country.
If they REALLY CARED about the kids, they woulndt care how much money they made.

The trouble is that the money is not getting to the teachers and certainly not to the classrooms. It all gets sucked up in the administration beauracracy,,,,and the union. Unions do not give a flyin F about their members short of the dues they are required to pay. How else can they afford the union leaders' lifestyles and the massive amounts of money they give as political bribes.
Take a look at everything this administration has done with OUR money and you will see it is all about re-distribution, sort of. The underpriviledged get the change left over after the UNIONS & LAWYERS take the dollars.

You can't teach an old AFT new tricks. They don't even know the old tricks used when the US school system was extolled.
It was suggested by Lincoln that one option for southern Negros was to them them go back to where they had been "taken". The suggestion as based out of concerns for their safety in southern states NOT out of pure racism. It is sad these days that most racism in the south is perpetuated by groups originally formed to help southern blacks. Those include the NAACP, The Rainbow PUSH Coalition and self named "reverends".

The Federal Department of Education needs to be abolished and all public funds cut off. Education should revert to private schools or at the very most State run schools. All Teacher and service unions should also be outlawed and no public money allowed to support them in any way.

Here's the thing. I really detest the politics of the Teachers Unions. They're oppressors of kids, of parents, and of teachers who don't agree with the Party Line. What do teachers teach? The correct answer is kids. Now, I'd really like to teach kids that science is fun because it is. But I don't know if I can face an environment where the teachers are my biggest obstacle. Having developed and produced a saleble product, I know that quality work earns quality pay. Market competition. Customers paid our price because it was the best product availible, and
we supported the customer and the product for a successful result. Well, parents are the customer. Kids are the raw material. If parents want good teachers, they need to provide teachable kids in a safe environment. Then hammer the unions. They contract to provide educated kids. If they can't, do it, sue for breach of contract.

Michelle Rhee is a hero. These firings have not come without notice…as in, from her FIRST day on the job. There are BAD teachers, and it's taken this long for her to get things lined up to be rid of them. We need MORE Michelle Rhees!

My dad has been a high school teacher for at least 30 years now. He's also a dedicated Democrat. I asked him his opinion on teacher's unions, and he said this:
"Teachers need to be in it for the students. The moment a teacher unionizes, their loyalties are forcibly shifted from the students to the union. If you're doing it for the pay and the benefits, you're in the wrong job. Also, anyone who stands in the way of vouchers doesn't care about the students at all."
Teachers' Unions, SEIU and ACORN. Are these the "civilian army better funded than the US military" that that marxist thug Obama was talking about? This could get very ugly as We the People fight to get our country back from the marxist hordes!

Number 1 – I stand corrected. In all honestly I did not think those who read these things would really have the mental capacity understand the difference. If you are an English teacher you obviously do not teach in public schools much less in the DC area.

That is what these so called educators are doing. What a great example they are setting for their students and their community. These protesters are the same people that said the tea parties are racist. Their families must be so proud, it is a job, if you do not like it, quit.
