I haven't trusted census data for well over 20 years after learning how the data collected can be manipulated for various political causes. Based on census data, redistricting often occurs which usually ends up splitting up a Republican district into various Democrat districts. While the opposite occurs as well, I've experienced being redistricted out of a Republican district and into a strong Democrat district on several occasions based on census data.

Is this a joke? Why does the census have to be part of any group? Why can't it be done just through the local community government employment?

The American Federation of Teachers seems to be an off-set of Acorn. Their national gave Acorn, Acorn's attorney, the SEIU, Healthcare for America Now, and the Apollo Alliance around a million dollars this year. It seems that Acorn is just playing the shell game unions. Why are unions involved in the census? They should already have jobs….what about Census jobs for the unemployed? Oh, I forgot, Obama wants to keep them unemployed.

But organizations with a noted political slant, who have paid to support candidates? No way.

Besides the relative (in)security of the data collected, without knowing (and I highly doubt it) that the work will be conducted with intense federal supervision, I wonder what "tricks" they will pull, like going past nice-looking homes with white families and marking down "no one home," while making sure to hit places with Obama and "Union First!" bumper stickers on the vehicles.

The census form has only ten questions from what I've heard, and nothing tooooo sensitive. A local news report said that if you mail your form back in, then you won't get a personal visit from a census worker. I'm not sure what would happen if you don't want to answer ALL the questions, but if I feel like there's something that they don't need to know, then I'm not answering it! If my Rottweiler lets them in the yard, I'll tell them myself that it's none of their business!

I'm not sure, but I think there is a monetary penalty for not providing the required information. If it's $100 I'll gladly pay …. if it's $6,000 the choice between family and noncompliance becomes more difficult.

I don't understand why the Federal Government is able to outsource Census Taking to any organization which makes political donations. Such donations should eliminate an organization from eligibility – include being part of an umbrella in which certain parts are political.

For this and many other reasons, I believe it's time to start REDISTRIBUTING POWER away from the Federal government and over to the States or to the People. We can no longer trust the feds to operate apart from corrupt influence, so it is imperative that we begin to deconstruct their stranglehold on power.

Article 1 Section 2 of The Constitution includes this sentence:

"The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct. "

The Constitution provides for a counting of the population. To my knowledge, that is it. It doesnt' call for a demographic study of one's race, religion, gender preference, favorite book, shoe size, pets, etc. Congress has passed laws to expand the scope, but such expansion is beyond the express requirements of Enumeration.

From what I can see in the links that I followed, it seems pretty straight forward in allowing organizations to participate in census taking. It seems few or none independent to conservative organizations have registered to partake in census taking. Maybe it's our own fault.

The first round of census people had gizmos that GPS'd all houses and locations. It didn't matter if you where home or not. The second wave of census takers ( which by the way get paid $18.00 per hour plus gas, mileage etc.) will do the actual census taking. If you are not home, they will send you a form which you must complete or get fined. Thats all I know ( info supplied by one of the "first wave" census takers.

The second wave by the looks of it, is all governed by radical leftist groups, even though anyone can apply to be a census taker, no matter what you're political affiliation. It's the people in charge at the offices that determine things.

Regarding the Census questions, don't just state you are caucasion. State you are whatever nationality you are most of-then American. Such as, I am mostly Hungarian- "HungarianAmerican." This is due to our current governments diversity issues and dealing with minorities. We can ALL be minorities! If they ask you how many miles you drive to work-what they're are really trying to "pinpoint" you on is how much gas you use a week, or how many miles you drive a week. This all has to do with
"Cap&Trade" that's in congress right now. Do not answer truthfully. As far as other questions-tell them somthing. Just don't be so "open." I generally don't advocate lieing-but it really is none of their business.

They announced today that 3000 post offices will be closed, why not let the post office since it is broke, close for a couple days and go into their community and collect the census, we are already paying them with great benefits, including a trip to a expensive outing, or is he going to borrow more from china. Since we caused most of this problem by relentlesly voting them back in office, we will show them we do have a long memory. We need a big march on state capitals and on Washington I do not mean just a million people. Or do in by the millions at different times to keep pressure on, form a march in your area where your congressman lives in the area. The time of the last census, I was with a university which was a two hour drive from my home. I kept a small apartment for convenience near the university, where I stayed during winter or late meetings etc.
I filled out the census form in the county I considered home, where I paid taxes and voted. The census taker happened to come an evening when I was at the apartment, telling me I had not filled out the form. I explained my situation, telling her I had filled out the form in what I considered my home county. She insisted, so we filled out the second form. I gave her very little information, expecting to receive a letter from the government asking why I would not answer the questions. I didn't, but for that year I was listed in two counties.

The law requires that you answer the questions. However, a sympathetic census worker told me that you may legally answer "Refused," and they have to accept it. They may supply information they know from personal contact with you, for example that you have toilets in your home if your address indicates you live in an apartment complex where all the apartments have toilets, or that you are a white male if it is obvious that you are one. But for all information that is less than obvious, you may simply politely answer, "I don't want to give that information, thank you."

You have said what so many of us out here are feeling. You get to the point that you realize you've lost a lot of friends, but you don't care because you would rather have no friends than have to deal with stupidity. The funny thing is that you find yourself talking about losing your friends to like minded people who are experiencing the same thing. All the info we have ever given is how many people live in the house. I have never even given them my children's names and I refused to give them our income. They just took what we gave them and left. There's usually an informational resource that comes before the census stating what you are required to tell them. They get no personal information from me and if I get threatened, I'll threaten right back. Get educated, know your rights and stay calm. Make sure you have a camera set up to film the event.

There are two "types" of census forms – the short form: the 10 question form, usually mailed (but can be a personal visit) and the Long form (not sure on # of questions) – this is the form with the "weird" questions like how many toliets do you have, also usually mailed (but can be a personal visit) If they do not get the mailed form back, then someone can/will be sent to your home.

The Constitution only specifies a head count to draw Congressional districts. All of the other questions are for "record keeping information only. It is interesting to know, but the government doesn't have any Constitutional authority to ask. The problem arises that the governent has no authority to ask for any other information other than # of persons, but try to force you to answer all the questions by imposing fines.

It's kind of like SS & Medicare – technically they are "voluntary taxes" but it is against the law not to pay them,

The constitutional purpose of the census was/is to determine the number of congressional seats. It's not the government's business to know how many appliances, toilets, cars, etc. one has, therefore, the only question I have ever answered (including the census 10 years ago) and EVER WILL answer are the number of people in my house – PERIOD! This census is intrusive and for the purpose of determining the "haves from the have nots" in order to redistribute the wealth (you know, communism.)

I am extremely concerned with organized labor's participation in the Census. This has got to be the 5th or 6th letter I am writing to you in regards to my concerns about the Census. I do not understand why big labor is playing such a role in this, except to skew the numbers. There are many unemployed non-union workers who would be more then happy to participate, so why are so many union groups involved?
President Obama, I do not want union thugs coming to my door and having access to my personal information. Please take the census out of the hands of Rahm Emanuel and place it back with the commerce department, and get rid of big labor's role. Use this as an opportunity to get some unemployed non-union workers back to work – JOBS ARE WHAT WE NEED.

Of course Olson cherry-picked cooperating organizations in order to come up with a scary list. Follow his link and ask yourselves whether we should also be afraid that such radical organizations as the American Baptist Churches of the South , Boy Scouts of America, and the Coca-Cola Company have also agreed to encourage full participation in the Census.

And that's all it is, folks—encouraging full participation, so the government—not the cooperating organizations—gets the kind of statistical information the U.S. Census Bureau has been collecting and compiling for a variety of useful purposes for many years.

But of course the far-right needs a succession of silly strawmen to keep the ignorant and delusional suitably fearful and in line with policy positions that often work against their own self interest.

First off, the list above is not a complete list of all the partners – it's a list culled and limited to groups on the left. There are lots of partners who are on the right. Secondly, partners don't do the census. They won't have access to the data. They're only there to help get the word out and help to get people to participate so that they are fully represented in the data gathered. Concerns about the partners using the data are unfounded – they won't have access to the data.

Don't give them false information. That is a $500 fine and possible imprisonment. If you give incomplete, minimal, or no information, it is a $100 fine, max. That is according to their own website link.
