Border Murder Highlights Administration’s Failure

Although most illegal immigrants are just human beings that are desperately seeking to provide for themselves and their families, this murder shines a spotlight on the Obama administration’s utter failure to secure our borders and uphold the rule of law.
A top story on March 30 is that Arizona rancher Robert Krentz was apparently gunned down by an illegal immigrant. Krentz’s family has maintained a ranch in southern Arizona since 1907, and he was known as a compassionate man who gave water and medical care to illegal immigrants crossing his land from Mexico.
Krentz was found shot to death, slumped over his vehicle on his ranch. Police dogs tracked the shooter to the Mexican border 15 miles away, indicating that the shooter was almost certainly someone in this country illegally from Mexico.
The murder of this good man casts in stark relief the outrageous failure of President Barack Obama and Secretary Janet “the system worked” Napolitano to deal with the enormous problem America faces as a result of illegal immigrants. Perhaps if they weren’t so busy taking over the economy (which the Constitution forbids them from doing), they’d actually secure the border (which the Constitution requires them to do).
This outrage occurred just as the Obama administration plans on pivoting to the immigration issue, at the perfect time to try to create a wedge issue to scare Hispanics into voting Democrat in 2010 in order to mitigate the massive losses in Congress that Democrats are sure to suffer after more than a year of ramming through a far-left agenda with extreme partisanship.
Immigration is definitely a problem that needs to be addressed. There are approximately 12 million foreigners in this country illegally, creating serious problems for a whole host of issues, from education, to healthcare, to employment, to law enforcement.
And this issue must be addressed in a humane and compassionate manner. Most illegal immigrants don’t want to break the law. They’re just desperate to find work to provide for themselves and their families, and they know that America is a land of opportunity. So they break our laws to get here and stay here because they’re focused on making a better life for their families.
In tackling immigration, we need to always remember that most of these people don’t want to harm Americans; they just want to help themselves and their loved ones. And they’re desperate to do so.
But the United States is a prosperous land of opportunity only because we live by the rule of law. We’re a country that respects property rights and business contracts, and that encourages free markets and private businesses (at least until President Obama took office).
We’re also a country where lawbreaking is punished, and where violent criminals are held to account. Foreigners who murder innocent Americans in cold blood should receive the ultimate punishment, as a clear statement that such crimes shall be met with swift and sure justice in the United States.
Ronald Reagan once said, “A nation that cannot control its own borders is not a nation.” The Constitution tasks the federal government with controlling our borders, to maintain an effective immigration policy and to protect the property, rights, and lives of American citizens.
The tragic murder of Robert Krentz shows just how abysmally the federal government has failed us all in this regard. Secretary Napolitano needs to admit that the system did not work. And President Obama had better drop the hyper-partisanship to address immigration in a way that meets Republican demands to uphold the rule of law and not reward illegal behavior.
This is not the time for far-left pandering or promises of amnesty in the galling hopes of political gain. Nor is this the time for cramming through a law instead of beginning a long, slow, deliberate conversation with the opposition party and the American people. This is the time for addressing a serious problem for this country, a problem that quite clearly entails a deadly threat to our citizens.

You Ken's talk as though illegal immigration is a new problem and it's all Obama's fault. This is a huge problem that has defied the best efforts of presidents and congressmen from both parties. There is a lot of blame to go around.
Look at the way John McCain was pilloried by the right for supporting immigration reform. If you want real reform you are going to have to compromise to fix the problem.
How many more people have to die or be put in prison (border patrol!) for doing their jobs, before SOMEONE does their JOB and closes the damn borders!!!!???? If I lived near the border, I would sit on my property with a gun and target practice…the sign 'trespassers WILL be shot and buried on site' would be put up on every corner of my property! If the law refuses to help these CITIZENS…maybe it's time they take the law into their own hands!
These people have repeatedly asked for help from law enforcement and been ignored…enough is enough!!!
For all you idiots who think a fence is the answer, please don't start. Securing the border is a nearly impossible task. Enforcing the laws we now have are not. Let ICE & Law Enforcement do their jobs. hold the illegals in Jails like Sheriff Joe Arpaio runs in AZ. Allow landowners to protect both themselves & their property as they see fit. Post signs (a simple symbol) & allow landowners to shoot on sight illegal trespassers. The landowners are in peril everyday, fences cut, property vandalized & their lives & families threatened……….It's a war & Time we treated it as such.

National security being one of the constitutionally mandated functions of the federal government, the failure to fulfill this responsibility with respect to our southern border is negligence of a level approaching criminality, and makes our elected officials partially responsible for every crime, every murder, perpetrated by individuals crossing that border illegaly, with impugnity.
Hasn't defied any efforts because no efforts have been MADE. Bush invades multiple countries without a legitimate congressional act of war but when you talk about a border fence they feign confusion and say how difficult it is to do! LOL! Yeah, it is more difficult to put a fence on our own border than it is to fly around the world toppling governments for Israel. It seems a stretch to refer to the efforts of Presidents and Congress over the past 25 years as best efforts. If these individuals had given their best efforts over that period, we'd have long since established an orderly process for immigrants to enter the U.S. legally instead of by the totally open border policy that has allowed incalculable millions to disregard our laws and illegally take up residency here and cause the hundreds of billions of dollars per year of unfunded costs on local, state and federal governments.

It serves no purpose for me to rank the many egregious initiatives of this president and his minions. However, continued failure of border control is among the worst because of its several effects, and because of the underlying electoral motive. His predecessor was no rose in this regard, and the irony of this tragedy and the position of the AZ. senior senator is not lost on us.

I can understand how this woman was picked for homeland security, but what I don't understand is how she was elected Governor of Arizona. She does not seem to be that sharp. I agree! Trespassing is Punishable under law or by the property owner. Trespassers due impose an element of fear sense they totally ignore the Law and rights of others.
They could start by allowing our Law Enforcement officers to do their job. Here in Phoenix, our Sheriff Joe has been hounded by the left forever. Just this past June, the esteemed Al Sharpton and his minions trailed our Sheriff department for a week filming them in order to try to catch them make any harrassing stops. The local, State and Federal Dem's are all over the deparment. The Feds revoked the ICE certification that allowed our Sheriff department to process illegals. Sheriff Joe is currently under a Grand Jury investigation for abuse of powers. What does Joe say? "I am here to inforce the law. If the law is wrong, change it. Until then I will do my job".
A tragic death, certainly, but since you indicate the police did not find teh shooter, how do you know it wasn't someone from one of those right wing militia groups that shot him? They carry weapons, and would have a motive to shoot a guy that is helping the Mexicans.

I'm not sure when compromise became a bad word, but it has been used since the beginning of the Republic to achieve workable public policy. You are never going to get everything you want in a country of 300 million, so get the best deal you can and move forward. Going in you have to be willing to give something up to get what you want.
The party of "Hell no" makes for good sound bites, but isn't good for America. And as the teapeople push the Republican party to the right they are going to dig in their heals and force a confrontation. And the result is going to be like we saw with heath care reform. You are going to lose.

I agree with you. I just wanted to point out that this guy was part of the problem. Instead of helping them commit their crime, he had a duty as a US citizen to report the violations. I'm sure he considered himself to be a compassionate person. The reality is that he was a \”useful idiot\”, and in the end he reaped the reward waiting for all \”useful idiots\”. There is a lesson to be learned from this, lest we overlook it.

The story is a little skewed. Robert Krentz said in an interview he would give the illegals water if they asked for it. and that about as far as the generosity went. He had his house broken into and called border patrol several times to have the illegals removed from his property. Which is exactly what i would have done. Last i heard the authorities were saying the shooter was most likely a member of a drug cartel.
To this administration, it's not a failure, it's a success. The fundamental transformation of America includes these kinds of things.

Did you watch the He/She interview on fox over the weekend? She first stated the fence being constructed is a total failure. The very next sentence she stated the illegal immigration traffic was down this year. When asked if that had anything to do with the fence she stammered and then denied it. Too funny, what a clown.

It has been a problem for a long time; however, IMO, since our current resident of the White House took office, he has painstakingly led this country in a way that makes us look weak. Violence from Mexico has escalated, the drug lords are getting bolder because no action by this administration has been taken. It's not a priority to Obama or the dems because they intend to sacrfice the citizens of this nation in order to increase their voter rolls. They know that they are going to lose big in November unless they get more voters, and they plan to appease the illegal immigrants and encourage more to illegally enter our country for one purpose: to get votes. Anyone who is here illegally should be sent home and told to do it right. A final example of how this administration has cow-towed (sp?) to illegals is the recent DOJ (aka Holder) decision to not seek the death penalty of three MS13 (a very, very violent gang from El Salvador) who robbed and killed a man. Last night I was listening to a guy saying if we didn't do something about illegal immigration, in 25 years we'll be fighting over water and other things like that…He said by then our population will balloon to 400 million, and that type of growth is unsustainable…He suggested we bring our troops home from defending others borders and defend our own….We won't be able to recognize the USA cause it will not only look like a third world country, it'll be a 3rd world country; and he suggested to look at our big cities, and what's happening to them….He sure sounded like he knew what he was talking about!!

You really know nothing of this particular situation. Krentz only provided water to illegals to prevent the on-going vandalizing of his cattle tanks/pipes. We had a rancher out here a few years back who held illegals at gunpoint…the result: He got sued (Southern Poverty Law Center) and the court took his ranch and GAVE IT TO THE MEXICAN!

These are no longer peace loving citizens that we are talking about. These people are hardened criminals now that are pouring over our borders because they think they will get amnesty. They all need to be shot. Period. Our jails are full of them and so our prisons. All they know is crime, because they do not enforce laws in Mexico. Unfortunately, states that have proposed and passed legislation to do exactly that have found the laws challenged in federal court by the ACLU and other assorted progressives.
You make some good points. The president did not make immigration reform a top priority when he assumed office… a political calculation I'm sure. Politics is the art of the possible and immigration is not high on the possible list. Not to mention that the economy was melting down and he had bigger fish to fry last year. He also made a political calculation that health care was a more pressing issue.
I think we are going to get reform sometime during his first term. But I know that financial regulatory reform and jobs are going to come first.
These open border politicians should face murder charges as accomplices. Their dereliction of duty in securing our border has led to more Americans murdered by illegals than were murdered on 9/11. The current and past administrations certainly bear the lion's share of blame in all of this. Considered in this light, the rancher probably is deserving of our pity. But we do not know that that was the case. All we know for certain is what was reported in the article.
In a perfect world, the guy should have rendered humanitarian aid and then reported them to ICE. I doubt that is what actually happened though.

You are leaving out a LOT of details in this story of yours. Foremost is WHY did the judge rule the way he did? For all I know, he may have had a perfectly good reason for doing so. You also neglected to mention the grounds upon which the suit was filed in the first place. They may or may not have been valid, but the fact that you didn't mention them makes it appear as if you are trying to hide pertinent facts.
Compromise with progressives gave us much of the failed policies of the Bush administration. And this administration along with the Democrats among the Congressional leaders have made it abundantly clear that compromise means, "Our way or else!"

We need an immigration moratorium NOW — and tough policies on all the illegal immigrants that are here. A civil rights group says two mentally disabled immigrants in federal detention are being released to their families in Southern California.
The American Civil Liberties Union says immigration officials will release Guillermo Gomez-Sanchez and Jose Antonio Franco-Gonzalez on Wednesday from a San Diego facility.
The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service has no comment
The men, both Mexican citizens with criminal records, were held after being ruled incompetent for deportation hearings. Gomez-Sanchez is a paranoid schizophrenic, and Gonzalez has the mental age of a child.
The civil rights groups contend the men were deprived of their constitutional right to due process.
AS a foreigner myself , who arrived legally , I have to say how amazed I am by the number of illegal undocumented aliens there are here. I got here in 1976 .
No one seems to gave a damn , the nation will fall to Mexican population pressure if the borders stay open. Yet no government I have know here , seems to care.
SO I ask who is paying for this invasion and who is being paid to ignore the problem ? The demographic statistics yield a Mexican future for American . That is , a peasant society.

This isn't completely Obama's fault. Both parties have no intentions of doing anything to stop the illegal immigration problem. Leaders of both parties are bought and paid for by corporate interests who want cheap labor. Think about it. How hard would it really be to control the border? The border is around 2,000 miles long. Just have one border patrol guard per half-a-mile at all times. They would literally be able to look to the left and right and see the other border guards. If you assume that each guard works an 8 hour shift, this would only require 12,000 guards. We have tens of thousands of troops stationed all over the world guarding other countries' borders; can we not spare 12,000 to guard our own?
Amnesty is the next battle on the horizon. If the Dems pass Amnesty, there will be no way to stop them, not now or ever. They will have an army of 15-20 million new voters. While grassroots conservatives are distracted trying to repeal the healthcare bill (which cannot be done until at least 2013 when we get a new president, if it is even possible then), Amnesty will get slipped through, probably with the help of the GOP establishment.
The "problem" has not defied generations ofpresidents and legislators. You lefties have defied them. Go ahead- try to defend the Dems' unceasing opposition to effective border controls, to raids, to deportations. Oh, no, you folks are all in favor of open, unrestricted of unskilled, uneducated labor.

Sorry, Looking4Sanity, but I have to differ with you on this one.
I read a report that this rancher's brother had recently found about 300 pounds of marijuana and some drug smugglers on their ranch. Said he called the Border Patrol, who arrested the smugglers and confiscated the drugs. The speculation was that the cartel sent a "hit-man" to kill the rancher.
Remember, the rancher had a gun in his vehicle, but hadn't used it. I imagine the cartel sent a sniper to kill this guy – in order to send a message to the other American citizens who live along the border.
Your reponse only reinforces the progressive view that everything is the responsibility of the federal government and that the states and, therefore, the people should just sit back and be quiet while the powers that be decide what is best.
And if we did seal the borders and, according to your POV, become North Korea, does that make Obama our Kim Jong Il?

Are you aware that another border rancher, a while back, shot and killed some illegals who were menacing him and his family, after years of their begging the federal government for help?
They tried him in court, convicted him, and confiscated his family's ranch land and gave it to the illegals who hadn't been killed.
I know you mean well, but the citizens, in general, have absolutely no idea whatsoever, just how badly our federal government has failed.
An illegal is illegally trespassing and the legal owner restrains him at gunpoint,…………
and sometime after that the illegal is sitting in the living room of the previous owners house because a judge gave him the ranch.

At this point I have to agree with you. A private citizen cannot afford to have open warfare on his property with the ilegals. Also, I could only clean up so many dead illegal bodies on my property without offering human kindness like water.
The rancher is not the guilty party, the US Government should have a method of some sort for protecting the borders.

It will also yield a society in which it will be demographically impossible to elect conservative candidates or anyone who wants to reduce the welfare state. Sadly, the GOP establishment hasn't figured this out and thinks it can get the Hispanic vote if they just pander to them more.
