You Don’t Need a Washington Task Force to Understand the Middle Class
by Joe 'The Plumber' WurzelbacherIt was kind of hard to stop laughing when I read that Joe Biden is leading a Task Force to study what’s on the mind of middle class Americans. Give me a break.
It would be funny if it were not so sad that those in Washington need a special commission to figure out what America thinks. How can we be represented in the first place if the people we hired to carry our hopes and fears are so clueless?
Here’s my suggestion Mr. Biden—take a trip to any town or city and sit down for an early breakfast in a coffee shop. Stop talking long enough to listen. Try a barber or beauty shop for the same lesson. Have a beer in a tavern. The key here, Mr. Biden—and all you folks from Washington, D.C. who have become so frightened that people are expressing their independent will at the polls—is to stop pontificating long enough to actually hear what we are saying.
Here’s another clue that could save us all the cost of a task force to find out (what you really should already know)—we don’t like being lied to about the size of the national debt or the fact that you have been taxing coming generations of Americans to secure more loans from foreign countries today. We know that you are mortgaging our future, so just admit it. Admit that spending our money gets you elected.
Try telling us the truth about the influence of lobbyists on public policy. Start with the indecipherable and unimaginably corrupted tax code. Be honest about Congress selling off two or three pieces of the tax code every day they’ve been in session for the last 25 years. Admit that the income tax system requires more than $300 billion a year from us just to fill out all the forms and obey the 67,500 pages of tax code regulations. Fess up that lobbyists spend more than $1.5 billion a year to get what they want for the aleardy rich and powerful from the House Ways and Means Committee–and that we end up paying the difference. Admit these are the reasons you hate the FairTax.
Maybe being truthful and actually listening will then lead you to the plain and obvious fact that we are mad as hell that you and the rest of the political class in Washington can barely disguise your contempt for those of us who live outside Washington . We lost a lot of our retirement savings in this economic meltdown because of government fumbling and a whole lot of us lost the jobs that we depend on to feed our families because you think raising money for government is more important than letting it work in the economy. We don’t think that cutting special deals with plaintiff lawyers, reluctant Senators, unions or big banks with our money just so you can buy their votes has helped us as much as it has helped you. And, for Pete’s sake, we don’t think that the answer to every problem we face is shifting more of our earnings to the 40% of the population who don’t pay any income taxes at all
Just for good measure you might explain again how wrong it was to ridicule those of us who clutch our “guns and bibles” and admit that the people you seem to so despise are the very same people who win our wars, build our cities and yes, pay your salary. Admit to us that you’ve spent too much time listening to others in Washington and too little time listening to us. Stop scheming and stop treating us like sheep that can be ever more efficiently sheared to advance your own ambitions.
If you really want to understand, however, what the middle class and most of the rest of us really think, go get some ham and eggs and save the money of the commission. I’m sure that we could make better use of those funds—another thing you need to come to understand.

In my opinion, Joe the Plumber, while he may be a good representative of average middle-class people, was used by the McCain campaign to make Americans believe that McCain and the Republican establishment have the interests of the middle class in mind. The Democrats also use people in this manner. I believe that Joe the Plumber is still being used in this way, and that neither party is looking out for the middle class except to gather money and power.
You right-wing nuts fail to understand time and time again…it was your beloved leader G.W. Bush that got us all into this mess to begin with! The old model of "Republican tax cuts" and so forth is a failed model!! The definition of middle-class changes most of the time with new generations. Having Washington politicians form a "Middle Class American Task Force" makes about as much sense as having alcoholics form a "Dangers of Alcohol Committee"…..apologies to all alcoholics on a "Dangers of Alcohol Committee".
To start with, Joe Biden is so utterly clueless about middle America…it actually is appropriate that he head this task force, at least they aren't hiding the fact that it isn't going to produce anything worthwhile. Sure, stock in hair plugs may rise a little bit as a result….however, most politicians wouldn't know what a "Middle Class American" is even one kicked them directly in the marbles.

The American class system is a joke. This country is living an unsustainable standard of living. We consume without asking where this product is coming from. If we keep buying product made outside the U.S. our money will go with it. The reason we buy products made outside the U.S. is that they are cheap enough to allow us to temporarily sustain a standard of living in which we send all our wealth to other countries.
Do well fund groups that go to Washington and support unions and health care reform? I'm not sure check out who gives the most money.

NEW YORK (Reuters.com) –The Obama administration's plan to cut more than $1 trillion from the deficit over the next decade relies heavily on so-called backdoor tax increases that will result in a bigger tax bill for middle-class families.
In the 2010 budget tabled by President Barack Obama on Monday, the White House wants to let billions of dollars in tax breaks expire by the end of the year — effectively a tax hike by stealth.
While the administration is focusing its proposal on eliminating tax breaks for individuals who earn $250,000 a year or more, middle-class families will face a slew of these backdoor increases.
The targeted tax provisions were enacted under the Bush administration's Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001. Among other things, the law lowered individual tax rates, slashed taxes on capital gains and dividends, and steadily scaled back the estate tax to zero in 2010.
If the provisions are allowed to expire on December 31, the top-tier personal income tax rate will rise to 39.6 percent from 35 percent. But lower-income families will pay more as well: the 25 percent tax bracket will revert back to 28 percent; the 28 percent bracket will increase to 31 percent; and the 33 percent bracket will increase to 36 percent. The special 10 percent bracket is eliminated.
Investors will pay more on their earnings next year as well, with the tax on dividends jumping to 39.6 percent from 15 percent and the capital-gains tax increasing to 20 percent from 15 percent. The estate tax is eliminated this year, but it will return in 2011 — though there has been talk about reinstating the death tax sooner.
Millions of middle-class households already may be facing higher taxes in 2010 because Congress has failed to extend tax breaks that expired on January 1, most notably a "patch" that limited the impact of the alternative minimum tax. The AMT, initially designed to prevent the very rich from avoiding income taxes, was never indexed for inflation. Now the tax is affecting millions of middle-income households, but lawmakers have been reluctant to repeal it because it has become a key source of revenue.
Without annual legislation to renew the patch this year, the AMT could affect an estimated 25 million taxpayers with incomes as low as $33,750 (or $45,000 for joint filers). Even if the patch is extended to last year's levels, the tax will hit American families that can hardly be considered wealthy — the AMT exemption for 2009 was $46,700 for singles and $70,950 for married couples filing jointly.
Middle-class families also will find fewer tax breaks available to them in 2010 if other popular tax provisions are allowed to expire. Among them:
* Taxpayers who itemize will lose the option to deduct state sales-tax payments instead of state and local income taxes;
* The $250 teacher tax credit for classroom supplies;
* The tax deduction for up to $4,000 of college tuition and expenses;
* Individuals who don't itemize will no longer be able to increase their standard deduction by up to $1,000 for property taxes paid;
* The first $2,400 of unemployment benefits are taxable, in 2009 that amount was tax-free.

You know what it is? It's not that they are out of touch but that they don't care. This is why they would rather appoint a commission than actually listen to and speak with the people. They would rather sit back and use polls and commissions to figure out what the trend or overall sentiment is regarding this issue or that. But by doing so they are simply going through the motions because ultimately they vote what THEY want as a means to get what THEY want. What we have governing this nation is not representative of what this nation and it's people need or want.
It's not a listening problem friend. It's a don't care problem. They believe they are better than the rest of us and so know better than we do. This is why they presume to lecture us about what they plan instead of bouncing it off us and listening to what we think. What's more is if they truly cared they really would want us involved. Instead they hold closed door meetings without so much as one member from the other side of the isle. Just listen to Obama, Pelosi and Reid speak. Every other word out of their mouths is I…..I……I……me..me..me. It's not about we, us or together but it's about them.
Again it's not about listening. It's become abundantly clear that the American people do not want universal health care nor do they want government forcing them to buy health insurance, especially from the government. Yet, despite this, the left has vowed to push and pass some form of health care bill that they can later amend to suit their wishes. They do not care what the majority wants. They only care about the votes they can buy with the free health insurance for the poor.
Think back to the beginning of their Health Care "reform" campaign. Realizing it was less to do with the health care and more to do with health insurance they change their slogan to "health reform" which was STILL all about the insurance. In a nutshell they aimed to socialize medicine in this nation and thus far they have not given up on achieving that goal. They will stop at nothing to ensure that the majority ends up supporting the few even if it's against their will.
You are too right. It's not that they don't hear us but that they don't care what we think. Just listen to Obama, Pelosi and Reid even today and they are still vowing to pass some form of socialized "health care reform" regardless what the people think. They mean to force everyone to buy health insurance so they can tax that health insurance as well as any profits the providers would surely take in.
It seems the point of what Joe did is being lost on his celebrity. This nation is full of people, hundreds of millions of them in fact, who could better represent us than those who currently hold those seats. Instead what we inevitably end up voting for are either millionaires, lawyers, career politicians or a combination thereof. What's more is that the two political parties are in the driver seat where candidates are concerned and seemingly tend to support the candidates that are most easily controlled. The only way to get a fair election is to take the political parties out of the equation.
