Mr. President, Where Are the Jobs?
by Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC)Americans are hurting – there is no doubt. Unemployment is at a record high and since Speaker Pelosi has been in the Speaker’s chair, 8.7 million more people are unemployed. What’s even more frightening is that 3 million of those jobs have been lost just since the misnamed stimulus was shoved through Congress less than a year ago. So where are the jobs?

Earlier this week, we learned that Recovery.gov, the official Administration website charged with reporting abuse was its own worst offender. It is full of fake stimulus jobs in fake Congressional districts. It also shows that $3 million couldn’t even produce a single job in South Carolina’s fake 43rd district. Somehow, $1.8 million was spent for 1.4 jobs in the fake 00 district. This would be funny, but the money belongs to taxpayers, not the government.
Wednesday night, ABC News broke the news that the Government Accountability Office says that one out of every 10 jobs claimed to have been “saved or created” by the Administration came from projects where no stimulus funds had been spent. When asked about the inaccuracies, the spokesman for Recovery.gov replied, “Who knows, man, who really knows. There are 130,000 reports out there.”
After a week of reports on blatant inconsistencies in stimulus spending, and a hearing in the House Committee on Oversight and Government, this Administration still has not provided adequate answers as to the whereabouts of stimulus funds. In response to this Administration’s insufficient communication on stimulus spending, I called for an examination of all stimulus dollars appropriated.
You see, the Recovery Act includes a provision that allows for the establishment of a Recovery Independent Advisory Panel (RIAP). This panel consists of five presidentially appointed members to advise the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board on how it could prevent fraud, waste, and abuse relating to covered funds. The President has yet to appoint this panel despite widespread stimulus inaccuracies.
On Thursday, I publicly called on the President to appoint this panel immediately. The Recovery Act is one of the largest spending bills in our nation’s history and it’s critical that we work together to maintain our goals of transparency and accountability. If this panel is not appointed by December 1, 2009, I will call for an outside, independent examination of spending and reporting inaccuracies.
These actions will address short-term reporting problems. But we really should have our eyes on the horizon. In the long term, we must continue to push this Administration and Speaker Pelosi to give this economy the economic jolt it needs.
Our plans like the Economic Recovery and Middle-Class Relief Act of 2009 (H.R. 407) unleashes the potential of American businesses, investors, and entrepreneurs. We help stabilize home values and help more responsible families achieve the American dream of owning a home. Instead of continuing to skyrocket federal spending, our plan offers incentive-based relief to individuals and job creators. It reduces the burden that the government places on both employers and employees and provides assistance to the unemployed.
I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to come together to demand immediate accountability for stimulus spending inaccuracies and in the long-term, work together on bipartisan job creation plans to get America rolling again.

You are right Joe! POTUS lies!
Joe I applaud your effort but really don't hold much faith in any panel that is appointed by this president and his band of thugs.
I think the best thing that our conservative representatives can do is to continually point out the pure evil that results from liberal policies.
Well done Mr. Wilson calling Barry Longnose a liar. In fact “you lie” should be our rally cry as we begin to sweep Washington clean in 2010. Jobs never where the intention of the Porkulus bill. It was nothing but a massive government savings program, even if they have to screw America to do it!
Great work Joe–let's also check the SEIU and ACORN folks who probably received this money. Let's look at all of the bank accounts of the people that are pushing this healthcare bill. Mary Landreiu stands to get $100M in "reparitions" for Lousiana in the Senate HC bill–didn't we contribute enough in donations and federal funds already after Katrina.
This swine flu vaccination debacle is evidence that the govt should take over healthcare.
The stimulus is a failure–another 505,000 jobs lost this week but the govt has the cajones to say we it is reducing and stabilizing-no it is not dont' they understand that a half-a-milion more jobs are gone.
When are these blue states going to be accountable to their citizens and just "do the hard work" like the POTUS keeps telling all of us.

Go Joe!
Dear Mr Wilson,
I'm sure glad you have the courage and grit to speak out. There are not many of your caliber who represent people.
Bravo!
Please don't give up for 1 second.
God bless you sir. And the USofA too.

Rep. Wilson — you are my hero. You tell truth and call a spade a spade. I personally had the priviledge of being forced to fillout all the required inpu informatyion into the new ARRA govt system, due to the funds transferred to Section 8 housing to fill the budget gap from ARRA (stimulus) funds. But, give me a break. These rent subsidies usually are funded from Continuous resolutions…while waiting for Budget approvals. A few years ago, we didn't get paid from HUD for over 5 months…and had to fund operations from our own bank accounts.
My point is, how can we be expected to report saved or created jobs in the ARRA system??? when all we are doing s getting paid rent subsidies that are contracted to recieve anyway??? isn't this double counting of federal dollars, and jobs created already existed??? Makes no common sense to me….and I see that over 6,000 jobs were reported as saved from these ARRA funds???
I don't usually do this…but I couldn't resist quoting the whole column of Mr. Wilson in my blog. I'm sure my dozen or so regular readers haven't seen it yet.
congessman wilson, where are the rest of the people with either "r" or "d" next to their name, willing to stand up to this bully, and do what is not only right, but what the constitution actually says for us, we the people? can you possibly start holding constitution basics 101 classes on the hill. i do know any law that needs more pages, or words than the constitution most likely does not follow the constitution, if they would read the rule book, then we wouldn't get these stupid waste of our time, and money. with the proposed laws they want to pass, every man woman and child, and even grand children will need to work 3 jobs to pay the taxes. are we viewed as citizens, or atm machines?

It's simple.
The only jobs created are the accounting jobs that are necessary for tracking the stimulus. Oh, and don't forget the new taxes that are not going to be rolling in as people continue to lose jobs….we need to track that.

The Anti Liberal Zone
Obama lied – the media sighed
It's called "Overwhelming the System", dummy!
My only beef with this is they should call the panel the "Recovery Advisory Independent Panel". Better known as RAIP!!
It my suprise the POTUS but we had rather have jobs than handouts.
You're still right Joe,………
President Ben Dover……………………………………………is a BIG liar.
That was you.
Thank you Mr. Wilson.
The proof is in the pudding isn't it? Small business is suffering and so jobs are being lost. Many businesses seem to be in a holding pattern waiting to see if the government is going to force them to provide health care coverage for what few employees they have left. This means they are hording what money they have coming in and holding off on making any moves towards expansion. Meanwhile the banks are not being very flexible with their lending practices and as result many businesses that might wish to expand are having more difficulty than ever. Some are even having difficulty getting the final draws on their loans putting them in a position where they cannot pay their contractors. Money, the life blood of any economy, is flowing very slowly and this not only hinders growth but it also affects the ability to heal. If something is not done our economy may not ever recover.
If there is something about our nation that is broken you can bet the government played a hand in it. Rather than try to streamline and focus on efficiency our government chooses simply to raise taxes. Every time you raise taxes to stifle growth just a little more. Dig down to the core and you will find that taxes are the reason everything is so expensive. The cost of living is so high now that the average American couple can't afford to have more than 2 children much less send them to college. The liberals answer to our declining birth rates? Immigration, both legal and illegal. Supposedly combined our population remains stable. Unfortunately even with a stable birth rates our government continues to outspend itself each year and passes the burden to us and our children.
Our country is 13 trillion dollars in debt. How is this even possible? Surely we didn't spend that much in Iraq or Afghanistan. Where did the rest go? It certainly wasn't spent on domestic infrastructure improvements or upkeep.
By all rights that money has been spent feeding the blob that is our government and it's appetite appears to be insatiable.
Rep Wilson you're right the ARRA is not about jobs it's the Federal govt bail out for all of its agencies and state / local governments. Sure there are jobs saved or created but most are for a limited time, some 4 weeks or less. There is alot of pork spending, it's a way for the Dems to reward the faithful but not call it pork. The Recovery.gov website is a joke. A typical government way of not giving us real information but rather only telling us what they want us to hear. If you want to see the data in an intelligent manner with detail, go to http://stimuluswatch.org/2.0/ .
Also can you tell VP Biden that according to Big Al and the fat guy gobal warning is here and Joe can not give us a snow job.Hey there's one job saved!
Also ask him this question. It's a multiple answer quiz so even he should be able get it right.
Does he really think we are
a) that stupid to belive him?
b) is he that stupid to believe we're that stupid?
Since the President used the word stupid I figure I can without being censored
LMAO! I love how this Liberal take-over of our government has totally exposed the stupidity of its policies, tactics and supporters. Libs always fall back on ad hominem arguments when they don't like the facts. There is no such scandal in Wilson's past and even if there were that's not the reason that unemployment has risen to a level not seen in 26 years, nor does it explain why ObaMao lied about the stimulus keeping unemployment under 8%. Yes, maybe he thought it would keep it under 8%, but many experts stated that governmental stimulation would not create jobs, but he refused to heed their advice. So that makes him stupid or a liar. Your revealing Wilson's imagined bathroom escapade won't give jobs to the millions of Americans that are out of work.
Sorry, these tactics won't work anymore. Don't beleive me, ask the MSM how their propaganda, misdirection and spin is working in their attempts to cover for O-bow-ma.

Dont forget Michelles 23 personal assistants, seems like she could have gotten a blackberry or something instead, but apparently spending other peoples money is her true calling in life.
I like it.
I need to see the details of this plan, if it's removing tax burden and restrictive anti-competition policies and letting private small business take the lead then I am all for it. If it's more handouts, I am not interested, I dont care who the recipients are, so I will reserve judgment.
How about a captial tax holiday if you invest money in a new business. Say for instance if you put a million into a startup, you are free of captial tax ( Zero ) on any returns for that investment for the life of the investment if the money is left in for at least 4 years?
Investing money in a company is a risk, if you remove the 30% short term and 15% long term the risk is much easier to swallow.
To be honest the current irrationality of the US Administration may make any incentive irrelevant becasue we suffer unde the burden of a group that could eaisly claw it back in an obscure way or change the rules any day the please.
Nice job, Joe. But all your analysis will do is convince the Democrats that the only problem is they didn't spend enough. Stimulus 2 and 3 are coming soon.
no it was his dad
Ha ha! Typical juvenile response.
BTW, did you see that Gore admitted to Newsweek that new studies show methane and black carbon or soot had a far greater impact on GW than previously thought? That carbon dioxide, the main focus of the politics of climate change, only contributes 40%? That Gore acknowledged the findings could complicate efforts to build a political consensus around the need to limit carbon emissions?
Have you heard about the hacked emails of AGW scientists admitting they're fudging stuff?
Go back to your liberal echo chamber pal, where ignorance is bliss and a juvenile mentality rules.
Mr. Wilson, the more things i screw up the more govt. employees i need to hire to fix things, and they will be seiu members.
Sincerly,
President Bean Pole
Thanks Rep. Wilson. We desperately need sanity in DC.
Nice one. I just regret that he is forcing all of US to Ben Dover.
As an aside this is the first time I have ever posted anywhere. Regular Men and Women of America will not take this any longer.
Conservatives Blow Goats. BOOYAH!
so does your mother
Seven Million missing jobs, all thanks to your government’s expansion.
My back of the napkin calculations after three sudsy beverages shows that the extreme growth of government spending as a percent of GDP may have cost the U.S. taxpayer 7.5 million jobs from 1993 until 2008.
But, of course, the solution to our economic woes is more government spending. I mean, as a percent of GDP it will only be 45% of GDP this year when you count federal, state, and local largesse. I just saw an image of Fidel Castro in the head of my beer, I think I might faint.

These are not "stimulus funds" but private "slush funds" for The President to buy or pay off special interests. The surprise is he has the cohonies to do it in front of us and act like we're to stupid to recognize the con game.
With this sort of responsible management, can we trust that there will actually be any savings, or debt reduction if the healthcare bill passes?
The only transparency with this administration is that they are ruining our country; promoting unpopular, potentially crippling legislation; making us weaker in almost every imaginable way in an ever increasingly threatening world; blaming others for the very things they have created that failed; and as we should all be clearly able to see, THEY ARE LYING!

If we collectively stop paying our taxes for a couple of years maybe and the corrupt politicians will think twice before trying to pull the wool over our eyes again. Think of all the scams they are perptrating against us ACORN, Global Warming, turning a blind eye on Illegal Immigration, a fraudulant stimulus bill loaded with Pork, Obamacare, what's next? Until you get the resolve to do something drastic like COLLECTIVELY REFUSING TO PAY YOUR TAXES, this this thing is only going to get worse. Until then I say get use to it suckers!!!

I know the paperwork is cumbersome, but this man you are praising wants to abolish the program entirely. Guess that would make the paperwork easier for you, since you'd have no money to collect!
You freaks make me sick. Joe Wilson is a sack of shit.
An Open Letter to all "AYE" Voting Senators & Specifically: Kay Hagan – NC (Part 1)
With Saturday's vote, you have threatened the ability of every small business in America to maintain their current employment level.
The vote was a dishonest cram-down against our need for lower cost & more competitive health insurance, and a lower tax burden to help keep our doors open. A tax credit is of no use, when we are counting our sales each day and each week during the month to meet expenses.
Politicians need to understand that we can't print money, we can't ignore expenses and financial obligations, and we don't have access to credit – ANY credit. So while Washingon – and Democrats specifically, are BURNING cash with excessive spending, driving down the value of the US dollar, quadrupling the national debt in the first 4 months of this year… Small Business USA, is dying.
To be Continued in Part 2
Part 2: Open Letter to "AYE" Voting Senators
We are trying to take care of our employees and their families. Your vote, in the name of party unity, for some 1930's goal, was a betrayal of us all.
If you wanted ANY public or republican input, it would have been in conference and in deliberations, and there would be PLENTY OF TIME to analyze and refine any bill – in advance, and without any gimmicks.
But no, it had to be done in secret. It had to be released at the last minute, with a rushed vote – just like the destructive 'stimulus' bill – on a Saturday night with a minimum of publicity.
Don't think you can vote "NO" later and have political coverage. Come January, my employee's health insurance premiums are going to go up, my business and personal taxes are going to go up, and my business, as an ongoing concern, remains uncertain.
The healthcare bill should have been fully discussed and deliberated by BOTH democrats and republicans BEFORE it came to a cloture vote. You made my decision tonight.
To Be Continued in Part 3
Part 3: Open Letter to "AYE" Voting Senators
I am either going to have to try to get my employees to voluntarily reduce their hours to 32 per week so they can retain their full time benefits, or I am going to have to let some of them go. I am sick to my stomach.
My business is carrying over $ 2.5M in debt and we are struggling to survive. I can't handle any more expense – regardless of your good intentions.
For the first time in 8 years, we will not be having an office christmas lunch. We moved it to Thanksgiving in appreciation of each other and in consolation for the difficulties ahead. It feels like a 'Last Supper', in that we may not be around by next November.
Do NOT be surprised when our unemployment rate in North Carolina exceeds 20%. It's nearly there in some counties. Forget about SPENDING and TAXING. The political class is robbing us of our hopes and dreams, and the future looks bleak.
To Be Continued in Part 4
Part 4: Open Letter to "AYE" Voting Senators
All of us EXISTING small business owners IN EVERY COMMUNITY, need a means to refinance our debt with extended terms and/or a lower interest rate AND lower tax burdens. We need to lower our operating costs so we could stretch our sales dollars a little further and maintain the security of our employees.
Instead .. we got 2,100 pages of MANDATES, ADDITIONAL TAXES, worthless PROMISES of less spending in the future, MORE bureacracy and regulations, and a (wink, wink) "debate" to make it better. I can hardly wait. Maybe an additional 1,000 pages will make it better …
Your vote tonight betrayed us all. Want to try for 30% unemployment with Cap n Trade ???
