Happy Birthday, President George W. Bush
by Jeffrey Scott Shapirot looks like President George W. Bush may have a pretty good birthday today. After all, this time last year the liberal media was terming him as “the worst president in American history.”
But a lot has changed since then.
History has proven that the challenges he faced during his presidency were much more daunting that anyone realized. In fact, shortly after the 2008 presidential election, Gallup ranked Bush’s popularity at only 27 percent and Obama’s at 70 percent.
Most of the country thought Obama would prove Bush totally incompetent, but since then a lot has happened, and Obama’s popularity, according to Gallup, has dropped 24 points to only 46 percent.
One of his lead generals has publicly criticized his handling of the war in Afghanistan and even former Bush senior adviser Karl Rove has equated the current administration’s handling of the BP disaster to of the BP disaster to what happened with Katrina. Some people have even suggested Obama’s handling of the BP disaster is much worse than the way the Bush administration handled Katrina.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that Obama is the worst president in American history instead. In fact, I’m not even saying he’s a bad president because this column isn’t about him. What it means is that the challenges George W. Bush faced during his presidency were a lot more challenging than anyone ever realized.
Aside from the polls, statistics, and historical analysis there is a lot to say about President Bush. Although there will always be people who dislike him, even some of his detractors admit that he is genuine a person with a heart of gold.
In 2008 when he was asked how he wanted to be remembered, he said, “I’d like to be a president [known] as somebody who liberated 50 million people achieve peace . . . I would like to be a person remembered as a person who first and foremost did not sell his soul in order to accommodate the political process.”
Bush was a president who cared deeply about freedom and human dignity for people. He was a man who experienced his own hardships with failure and addiction and empathized with others who endured their own personal pain. He was the kind of man who could forgive, and because of his faith and humility he knew he was far from perfect. He knew that no man can ever be perfect.
Somewhere along the line we seemed to think a president could be perfect – and that he should be.
Perhaps with the hardships President Obama has faced, we now know that’s just not possible.
Everyone make mistakes, especially when they have a hard job, and being president of the United States and the leader of the free world is the toughest job there is.
Happy Birthday, President Bush. We are grateful for everything you did to protect America and the free world, and we will never forget how you lifted our spirits in the darkest times in the wake of 9/11.
Thank you for being our president and standing by us.

Happy Birthday, Mr. President.
We miss you.
Yes. I DO miss you.
I think it's safe to say that President Bush didn't make decisions while in office with an eye towards short-term popularity or even a stellar legacy to point to. He made decisions that were the right thing for our country, our safety, and our ongoing viability. Happy Birthday, Mr. President. Your 8 years of personal sacrifice safeguarding our freedom and our way of life is greatly appreciated by many loyal Americans. Thank you for your service and enjoy a much-deserved rest!
Yes, the passage of time certainly puts things in perspective, doesn't it. Pres. Bush was not perfect, but he is a decent human being. I won't say any more about making a comparison.
Happy birthday President Bush, and thank you for the leadership you have shown over your eight year term. If as Paul McCartney says, that Obama can read, he might want to look the word "leadership" up. The longer Obama is in office the more this country will come to appreciate what "W" was doing for us and future generations.
Don't forget the Blue Bell ice cream while enjoying your cake.
Happy Birthday.
Move to VA. I'll find you a spot near me!
And good wishes for many more birthdays to come, President GWB.
Happy Birthday Mr President!
3…2…1..0…
Troll time.
Ditto that!
Dubya,
I love you Mr. President. I miss you too.
An elegant framed print of DiCianni's "Praying for Peace" hangs with honor in my office, and I know you are still praying for this country, as am I.
Sir I have the distinct honor that the only two Presidents I served under were yourself, and Ronald Reagan.
God Bless you on your birthday sir!
Happy Birthday, GWB. Just another day in your outstanding stint as a patriotic, respectful ex-POTUS. If living well is the best revenge, you have laid the smack down on your detractors a million times over.
Happy Birthday Mr. President.
………..and YES, we DO miss you.
We do miss you, Mr. Bush. Thank you for your hard work.
Happy birthday!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, W………..A truly HUMBLE man, he learned that in Texas, we're big on humble here.
History will judge his accomplishments as the POTUS, not us.
Good Luck, and my wishes of happiness for you and your beautiful bride, Laura.
Guess you've heard we miss ya'll.
Happy Birthday W and you are truly MISSED.
The thing I admired most about President Bush, was that after the eight years of Slick Willie and untold sex scandals, at least GWB brought dignity back to the highest office in the land. By the time the current Administration is run out of town, they will have to fumigate the White House.
You sure don't appreciate what you had until it's gone…..MIss ya…
Happy Birthday Mr. President. Thank you for your love of this country and the military that serves it. Hope that you have many, many more, and may God bless you and Laura for years to come.
"coughing", not flu, TR……….drug resistant TB. Savage talks about frequently.
Rampant among MX Ntls BE VERY CAREFUL !
Happy Birthday, Mr. President. You are sorely missed.
(I still have my "W" sticker on my truck!)
Maybe the Marxists in DC are recruiting these people to ravage TX and AZ. Today Holder the idiot took his lawsuit to court against AZ. If AZ wins, then I can see huge trouble in that state. The sheriff of Pinal County says he doesn't have enough deputies. This is OUR country and the freaking illegals are trying to take over, thanks to La Raza and probably Sotomayor (who belongs to La raza) and probably gives Obama and these Mexicans advice. Maybe even Calderone has his hand in this.
Time to ask for help from other states as far as militia etc etc.
Happy B-Day George. I'll bet the majority misses you whether they admit it or not.
Happy birthday, President Bush.
Thank you for your service and for your personal integrity.
Honestly, I don't know how you have been able to bite your tongue for the past 18 months, without the end flipping across the floor.
Happy Birthday, Mr President!
Thanks for the laugh everyone. What precious nostalgia.
Chimpy deserves a Happy Birthday too. Seems like a nice enough guy personally. Happy birth of suffering day Dubya. Thank God for term limits.
Dear Mr. Bush,
Thank you for your service to America. First as a soldier and then as President. I have always felt and strongly believed that you have been a courages leader. I applauded the decisions you made and stood behind without apology or regret. The abuses you endured would have destroyed a lesser man. I hope you are enjoying the day and many more to come. God bless and keep you and your family safe and thank you again. Happy Birthday W!!!
In this case, it didn't take long.
You are a lucky man. Thank you for being there to assisst in good history, God knows that we could use the likes of good men again.
Happy Birthday President Bush. Many happy returns today, and best wishes for many, many more healthy, happy birthdays.. We don't agree on everything, BUT we appreciate the courage , dignity and discipline that you and VP Cheney brought to your respective offices, something that is sorely missing, today.
Happy Birthday President Bush!!! May God Bless You and Your family. Thank You for it All !!! Relax and enjoy !!!!
Yeah, about a nanosecond…..
W will always be my gang sign. Do I wish he would have been more conservative, yes. Was he there for this country on 9/11,yes. Was I prosperous under W,yes. Did I know that he would protect our country from another terrorist attack, yes.Do I believe he always had the United States best interest at heart and grieved for every soldier lost, yes.I do miss him. I miss the work ethic and class he brought to the office. Our friends in Israel, England and around the world knew he had their backs.Happy Birthday W, and Thank You always.
Obama will never enforce the border, ever. Of course, neither did Bush, one of the things that disgusted me in his 2nd term.
Obama furthermore doesn't care about Texas, because he knows that you all won't vote for him.
President Bush Happy Birthday and thank you for all you do for us. WE miss you very very much. I wish you were still president!
He sure did and Laura did too. No other First lady can compare. Both President Bush and Laura are such classy people with integrity. They gave us respect again. We sure need them still. Our nation is lost right now. I sure miss them. I never had to be as afraid for our national security knowing he was there to make the right decisions. God bless you both greatly.
Hell I missed him before he was gone!
I knew this guys was a bum when he was elected Senator and people said "Wow he looks Presidential"…
Happy Birthday Mr. President and wishing you many more!! We miss you, a man of integrity and an honest concern for your country and fellow citizens.
Its not about illegal immigration its SILENT INVASION!!! We are being invaded by Mexico. Beware their diseases

Well said, DMontgomery. I'm personally looking forward to the Bush memoir, if only because I want to see the nine years since 9/11 through his eyes and in his words.
I confess, though I never strayed from defending him from his countless detractors, I did grow weary of it. I got my own version of Bush fatigue. But I also grew to like just how much he persevered, in spite of the relentless barrage of cheap or unfounded insults. And now to see just how special his quality of perseverance was, especially since it contrasts with Obama's own petulance and thin-skinned nature, I miss Bush even more.
God bless you sir, the man who stood before the ruins and told those firemen and emergency personnel that Al-Qaeda would hear from all of us will always hold a special place in my heart. For the trials you were given, you showed greatness, and people will remember that.
Ah, class. You either have it, or you don't.
George was a little too liberal for me. I have to admit, I knew nothing about (_!_)bama. It was like he appeared out of thin air. The more I learned, the more worried I got. I thought, people are going to fall for this 'Change' crap and the rest have to hold their nose to vote for McCain…..
i won't argue, But I will say it like this.
W was too Moderate for me, and he was too trusting of the Prglodytes and Libtards in both parties and he got convinced "bipartisan" (which is a latin word for super stinky sh!t) was the correct domestic path and that he could trust Ted Kennedy, John McCain, and many other "Bipartisan" legislative giants…
He said he would be bipartisan, and he ACTUALLY DID IT, unlike this POS CINC…
Maybe Pres Obama should meet with these people behind closed doors, in close proximity, to see what their needs are or to determine if they need medical care. Then shake hands with them all as they leave.
Or you don't, and you rarely attended.
Happy birthday President Bush. History will treat you kindly.
naw Missy8s
the trolls are still trying to pull thier heads out of thier collective @$$#$
I was not a complete supporter of Bush
but I do wish him a happy B day
LOL! Good form, sir.
You got that right….
There was a scene in that movie classic, "King Ralph," where John Goodman, as the American made King of England while making a speech resigning from the throne says something to the effect of: "I made a lot of mistakes that embarrassed England, but I didn't do it on purpose, but what Graves (his nemsis) did was intentional." I personally liked and respected Pres Bush. I think he did the best job he could under very difficult and trying circumstances. I believe his successor is doing all he can to dismantle the greatest country on earth. And while he and his followers and the MSM continue to blast away at and blame Bush, even a year and a half later, Bush continues to show his class by not responding and not criticizing our current president. He said he didn't like it when former presidents did it to him, so he is not going to do it to Obama. Happy Birthday, Mr. President.
What do you expect from a PieceA(_!_)?
I keep telling people that
wait 30 years and see what really went down and just how close we came again
to annihilation at the hands of some wacko with a bomb
Bush saved our asses and history will reveal that
Boy do we miss YOU President Bush! A REAL American! Happy Birthday Mr. President! and thank you, and your family for your wonderful service to America! Enjoy your day. You deserve it!
We're stuck with a Socialist now named Obama, who does not have an American Mind. I can't wait for him to go away, and take his commie administration with him. He's the most anti-American, incompetent President in History and ALL the world knows it!
Bush is no Ronald Reagan, but he's 100 percent better than Obama!
Happy Birthday, Bush!

Boy do I miss YOU President Bush! Happy Birthday! and thank you, and your family for your service to America.
We have a Socialist President now, Obama, who does not have an American mind. He is the most dangerous, destructive President America's ever had,IMO. He wants to Rule the World, and drag America into it using
Cloward & Piven methodology.
Enjoy your Celebration President Bush. You've earned it! and thank you for keeping U.S. safe after 9/11.
Just as much a big government proponent as the current fool.
I will always blame W and the republicans for Obama. W was handed a surplus and no wars. I think that the people, Dick-less Cheney and his crew were delighted that W was elected. He was dumb enough to go along with all the crap that they wanted to do! Happy Birthday you dumb ass!
DIGNITY???? You can't be serious!!!
Yeah I miss W like terminal hemroids!!
Sorry to hear about your affliction. I hear those wipes work…..
Happy Birthday, and thanks for the Patriot Act, bailouts, prescription drug coverage, Iraq, etc.
You're a fine example of a liberal politician, Mr. Bush.
Happy Birthday, Mr. President! Sure do wish we could have you back in office!
Bush can keep his "class" and we'll keep the government.
Oh gee, look, a double-standarded, bigoted troll. Yep, it was OK to call Bush a chimp but not Obama.
YAWN.
Well said! Bravo!
Seen the same influx here in NM. Seems to be a migration from AZ as well as new illegal aliens from all over trying to get them some of Obama's stash (Detroit Obama supporter's explanation for "free" handouts) along with that amnesty.
I hear ya although I had to suffer under Carter and Clinton. It was indeed an honor to serve under Reagan and Bush 41, retiring in time to elect Bush 43. God Bless GW and may his life be filled with many more birthday celebrations.
I've been to Humble TX although I didn't know it was big.
Happy Birthday, President Bush! I didn't always agree with everything he did, but I always knew exactly where he stood.
While channel-surfing yesterday, I caught part of a tribute to W on one of the God channels. The focus of the show (of course) was how his faith developed during his adult life and how he expressed it throughout his presidency. But what really caught my attention was a former staffer giving an outline of W's work day: Prayer, exercise, work work work work, dinner, then reading hundreds of pages in briefings PLUS a book PLUS some Bible reading. EVERY DAY. Doesn't sound like a lazy scion of an oilman, the MSM's version of W.
Not when the rhoids are due to suffering from CRIS. It takes a simple procedure to fix the affliction though.
President Bush,……….'if only,….
you hadn't tried to reach across the aisle when ya had them on the ropes.
If ever you get the ear of the next Republican president,………
show him the bite marks on your hand.
You're not going to have the governement much longer.
"………Thank God for term limits.,………"
No Candy,………Thank God for 4 year terms,…….
see ya in 2012,….now that will be a real laugh,……….ay Piece,..????
First as a SOLDIER???? His daddy took care of all that BS. SOLDIER my ass!!!
The only dub-asses around here are the ones with the donkey as their party symbol, and boy does the shoe fit! So wear it with pride jackass.
Happy Birthday President Bush. You served our country with class and the integrity it deserves. History will soon show that you are among some of the greatest leaders this great nation has ever known. Even today, you continue to exemplify the character people expect in their President, and you are truly missed.
CRIS? And that procedure?
Thanks to your successor all I have to offer is my adoration and respect!
Happy Birthday, President Bush!

CRIS stands for Cranial-Rectal Inversion Syndrome. When the proper procedure is applied then the sufferer will hear a "POP" and begin to see the light, IOW pull their Cranial appendage out of their Rectal Orifice.
He can't hear(?) ya. He's got the shop vac going. The little wanker's gotta pick-up that floor-dry under his computer desk. Gettin' a little funky down in the basement….
God Bless you George Bush- missing you
Happy Birthday! We miss your leadership, sir.
Happy Birthday President Bush. Thanks so much for your respect of the office
Yeah, that's what I thought it was. I'd think, eventually, they slip completely inside and disappear altogether……Poof!
Happy Birthday Mr. President! We miss you around here. We miss you, your leadership (even when I disagreed with you, you still were a leader) and we miss the quiet grace and elegance of your wife, a true First Lady.
And a Dublin Dr. Pepper! I miss Texas.
Yes, Dignity. Not to be confused with arrogance.
So it is BUSH'S fault that the Islamists picked a fight with us and he could not brint spending by Congress under control or even under supervision?
And you are a fine example of a liberal troll.

Bush was a disaster with government growth and spending completely out of control. However, compared to what we have now, Bush looks almost like a competent conservative.
At least Bush had principles and liked his country.
Candy owns a computer,……..??????
I thought he was at the library.

Thank you again Republicans for supporting another idiot. First Reagan and now Palin! "And some people have even suggested that" the Republican Party is trying to destroy America.
But richardporter, we're busy studying the constitution!
How about some accounting and political science, maybe some higher education?
Hope you're happy on your birthday!
Heck I miss Carter and I hated the buffoon
