Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) on Keystone Pipeline: ‘Twenty Thousand Jobs Is Really Not That Many Jobs’
by Joel B. PollakThis morning, Rep. Jan Schakowsky appeared on the Don Wade and Roma show on WLS-AM Chicago to comment on President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address. Schakowsky praised the president’s green energy initiatives, claiming that the (recalled) Chevy Volt “is doing pretty well” and defending Obama’s failed investment in Solyndra.
When the hosts asked her to defend President Obama’s decision to block the development of the Keystone pipeline, Schakowsky did not dispute that the project would create jobs, but denied that these jobs were significant:
Twenty thousand jobs is really not that many jobs and investing in green technologies will produce that and more. But I’ll tell you what, you know it seems to me that the Republicans would rather have an issue than a pipeline.
When the hosts pointed out that Schakowsky’s union allies support the pipeline, she was speechless. (The full audio from the interview is available here.)
Later in the program, the hosts interviewed Sen. Dan Coats (R-IN), who responded to Schakowsky’s comments:
Tell that to the twenty thousand people that woke up this morning and didn’t have a job to go, “Well, these don’t really matter.” I mean this not only is jobs, this is less dependence on Middle East oil. And here we have you know, the President talking about becoming energy independent but he turns down the easiest way to do that.
Update: Let it be noted that Schakowsky is Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democrats–a core leader of her party in Congress, not just a marginal representative.

Communist Undercover National Threat !
Seems that if 20,000 jobs isn't that many then 20,001 wouldn't be much more.
Someone should fire this wort.
Jan Schakowsky, delivers an urgent message for Team Parasite.
What a donk
Just more proof of how TOTALLY DISCONNECTED these people are. It is a sad time in American history!
"Schakowsky praised the president’s green energy initiatives, claiming that the (recalled) Chevy Volt “is doing pretty well” and defending Obama’s failed investment in Solyndra."……Seriously, can anyone doubt that Liberalism is a mental disorder? How else to explain defending OhBummer's stealing half a billion dollars of our money and giving it to the Solyndra thieves just in time for them to file for bankruptcy and flee into the night WITH the money? Seriously? You 'defend' this?
Tell that to that 20,000 that are out of work. Is this not the reprobate whos husband spent time in prison? She is untrustworthy and a pathological liar to boot.
"………it seems to me that the Republicans would rather have an issue than a pipeline…….."
Actually we would really like to have both.
Jan, Jan, Jan. At least these would be 20,000 actual jobs instead of the mythical "green jobs". If she thinks 20,000 jobs isn't many jobs in relation to how many people are unemployed she is in fact correct. What percent of the millions of unemployed is 20,000, I'm not a math wiz but I think it's a small percentage.
What a dope! It's thinking like this and her blind devotion to the party line that is killing the country. A project that isn't paid for by my tax dollars and produces real jobs is so much better than all the alleged, temporary, tax funded green jobs Bam has claimed to have created. IMHO.
The jobs universe was millions larger in 2006. These democrats have, since taking over both houses in 2007, destroyed millions of jobs. If we could get those seven million working imagine what that would do to tax revenue?
This woman is dumber than a box of rocks. She is the Illinois version of Maxine Waters.
Jan is the Poster Girl for the elite Liberal Left Woman. She has dishpan hands, ugly nails, and seems in dire need of some kind of facial peeling. She should get in touch with Nancy Pelosi to figure how to get straightened out.
20,000 isn't many? Let's throw in all the democrats in the house and senate and it still won't be that many.
"When the hosts pointed out that Schakowsky’s union allies support the pipeline, she was speechless."
If only the Illinois voters would wake up and vote this crazy skank out of office the everyone could continue to enjoy the "speechless" part.
its 19999.5 more than BO has ever created. it doesnt count when you give your friends money for votes or extending uneployment
Someone should have informed her of 2 critical things:
1. These 20,000 jobs would have cost the taxpayer $0 … whereas the "green jobs" seem to cost taxpayers a minimum of $250,000 for each job
2. The pipeline construction and eventual movement of oil would have INCREASED revenue to the Treasury (without raising taxes on the rich) from the worker's taxes and the taxes on the oil, etc. While increasing revenue to the Treasury, it would have also reduced the cost to government by 20,000 weekly unemployment checks.
The woman is a big stooopid … and everyone else on the show should have been better prepared to let her know it.
If these jobs averaged $60K per year, that would ad a direct increase in wages of $1.2 Billion. At a 25% tax rate that would ad $300 Million to the tax roles, and that doesn't count any of the growth that would happen from their spending.
These people are fools, and the people who support them are even bigger fools!
Gotta tow the Obama company line, doncha know!
how bout we develop green technology while we are getting our oil from our northern ally and not our middle eastern enemies?? these are the people who are destroying our nations future. how on earth do these idiots get these high paying, decision making jobs? how?
New jobs not dependent on the government that would help reduce America's foreign oil dependency while growing GDP… ya, we can't have that. How will that help create more Democrats?
This woman is a very respected member of the democratic socialists of America for the main point so it answers all the questions about how disconnected the left is and why we don't comprehend how it is that they don't seem to get it. They get it from their viewpoint, we don't understand them because we think in terms of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and freedom to achieve the American dream and self reliance and succeed or fail and such concepts. The DSA/ communists only understand control and misery evenly distributed amongst the serfs.
Not that many jobs unless you don't have one.
Is she flashing her IQ like a gangbanger would? Gangster. That pig needs a burka.
Sorry, but this broad is way too much.
Oil trade groups: Drilling deregulation could create 190,000 permanent full time jobs Published: 12:04 AM 07/12/2011| Updated: 2:34 AM 07/12/2011 http://dailycaller.com/2011/07/12/oil-trade-group...
not sure- is enabling, encouraging, promoting, pimping, & providing cover for it the same as 'defending' it?
I think that's what makes Newt shine so brightly, because he is able to utter very lucid and coherant speeches because in contrast most politicians, especially democratic politicians, display very low I.Q's and don't have the ability to think logically and I'm serious about this observation, I think they are detached and quite frankly stupid.
Jan Schakowsky, elitist dim representative from IL, is nothing more than a tool and useful idiot. 20,000 jobs are not to be sneezed at. It would put a substantial group of Americans back to work and help to cut our dependence on oil from a bunch of unfriendly countries.
Can she be ousted from her nest in Dec for antagonizing her union followers?
Somewhere a box of rocks was just offended by your comparison. LOL
Those are just the direct jobs you greasy buzzard! Large companies use the services of other companies who in turn use additional smaller companies and so on. When one company does well, and hires more workers, so too do the others tied to that company. Uniform Laundering Services, Banking Services, Food Services, Transportation Services, Day Care Services, Construction Services, Window Cleaning Services, Decorating Services, Vendor Services, etc., Then there's the influx of business from employed customers that further boosts the economy. Grocery Stores, Retail Shops, Vehicle Maintenance Shops, Health Insurance Companies, Gyms, Restaurants, Private Schools, etc. Twenty-Thousand more financially stable families creates an endless trail of commerce – and it creates MORE TAXPAYERS! It's called Trickle Down economics you uneducated dope! You should not have a job – you're not even qualified to scrape the gum off the sidewalk, a much nobler, useful profession than yours! Enjoy paying more for the gas, oil & electricity to run your Prius to take you to your undeserved job where you work to make our lives harder. When you use windmills and sunshine to run your home, then you can preach to us – You ghastly hypocritical elitist freak!
20,000 jobs would employ every last one of these OWS slackers
All this time we have been looking for evidence of global warming. I think we've found it. There's plenty of hot air, but it's not coming from the planet.
So where are all of these mythical green jobs we keep hearing about? The Keystone Pipeline would have provided real jobs, not ones made up in the Marxist in Chief's head. Rep. Schakowsky is drunk on the Left's koolaid. Why else would she say that 20,000 jobs isn't a lot? Whatta maroon.
I can think of another 435 "jobs that are unimportant"!!!
And those $250,000 "green jobs" only seem to have lasted a year!!! Ask Solyndra.
She said that out loud? Seriously?
Simple math equation…….Before pipe line (0) jobs created or saved…. After Approval (20,000,00) jobs created . Democrats are morons it's THAT simple.
You know how many is not a lot of jobs?
192
You know how many more is not a lot of jobs?
53
You know how many more than that is still not a lot of jobs?
2
A total of 247, not a lot of jobs at all.
Further, 20,000 is a low ball estimate. It fails to take into consideration all the jobs that are created by efficient and low-cost delivery of energy.
Every dollar you save at the pump is another dollar you could have spent buying something else … something else that requires workers to provide.
Efficiency is the mother of prosperity!
Joel:
Do a follow up and see if the union endorses her for reelection. They don't care about their members since they should tell Obama and democrats like this to go to hell!
Walter Hanson
Minneapolis, MN
if 20,000 jobs is no big deal, lets fire 20,000 federal employees!
Good one! It'd not the number of jobs that is important, it's who has them.
Because these jobs are not "green" the Dems put their noses up in the air. Funny how these cost the taxpayers nothing and the green "jobs" are fantastically expensive.
Hey Polack, the pipeline would create 6,000-7,00 jobs, temporarily. The people pushing it count any one job created which lasts two years as TWO jobs of one year's duration….the new math I guess. Schakowsky wasn't referring to 20,000 pipeline jobs, and you know it. Back to South Africa, you racist freak.
Funny how whenever this woman goes on Don Wade and Roma, she makes an ass out of herself and liberals. Last time, Roma asked her how much would be enough for the rich to pay in taxes, and of course, no answer. Keep getting her on the show!
… as well as a communist sympathizer. Check Trevor Loudins NewZeal blog to connect the commie leanings of this gang of thugs
If all these jobs were union jobs in her district she wouldn't think so.
It's not so much about the jobs for one thing; it's about the productivity to generate the economy. What world is she living in? The Dems are such hypocrites. They always spew out the phrases that we need jobs, but turn around and kil 20,000 of them. I guess it wasn't train jobs so they killed it. I always wondered what one of those zombie taking over the world movie scenarios would look like in real life. I think we're seeing it in D.C.
Also – these are 20,000 direct jobs, right? Wouldn't there be a lot of spinoff jobs from the pipeline?
…Here is your answer http://rightamerican.wordpress.com/scientists-fin...
Also investigate her involvement with the corrupt Shorebank, which now operates under another name, Urban Partnership Bank.
Exactly – a false dichotomy. such a statement finds purchase in the weak-minded, though.
Shiori, wow! That was beautiful baby.
How glorious it must be to go through life with no self knowledge.
Here is a link you may want to look at:
http://www.transcanada.com/keystone.html
Now understand that the article says only about 13,000 workers for the pipe line will be put to work , but do not forget about the project 7,000 workers that will be needed to manufacture the pipe. Also do not forget about the equipment that need to be purchased, so one also has to manufacture it.
I would think that with the current economy that a project like this would be moved along rapidly just to get people back to work.
By the way why inject your racism into this conversation?
If you're looking for a classic display of ignorance, tempered with a large dose of cronyism, you found it with her. How in God's name do people like this hold public office? My 12 year old is smarter than her.
I certainly don't need any convincing that Liberalism is a form of mental retardation and ingrained dishonesty, I've been saying it for many years. But thanks for the link! I can send it to any who are still wavering on the subject.
Thank you darlin'. Sometimes, I get so mad – just want to see these overpaid snobs out on the street.
; )
Jan is just another in a long line of LIMO Liberals…she's rich, and thinks Jobs are just silly. Bet she never held a real Job. She lives in the land of the fabled Money Tree…DC. Probably pays very little in Taxes herself. Pimps out the partyline of TAX the Rich. Pretends to "feel your pain" as she plans her next Cocktail Party for her donors. These Progs are self centered, selfish, actors who just care about being considered Cool, Hip, and Progressive…and she doesn't know BEANS about the Economy, working people, poor or middle class families.
Did this woman flunk third grade math?
Quayle2012_Knot;
Liberal feel. Conservatives think. And your response is the perfect example.
Were did you get your numbers? How about some citations?
Remember just "hearing about it", "I saw it on Wiki." or "It was on HuffPo, Daily Kos, or Democrat Underground" isn't good enough."
Let me show you how it should be done.
……
In a study done by the Perryman Group, they found that having stable oil supplies as implemented by the Keystone XL pipeline would generate:
1. $221,304,958,930 in annual expenditures
2. $35,454,811,793 in total income
3. 553,235 jobs.
They also provided the numbers and statistical and analytical models.
http://www.perrymangroup.com/reports/TransCanada….
Most likely you derived your numbers from the Cornell University Global Labor Institute study, This is the study touted by various "Watermelon" groups. (Green on the outside. Red on the inside)
The study is flawed because it provided no statistical or analytical models. It only provided anecdotal evidence and inferences.
http://www.ilr.cornell.edu/globallaborinstitute/r...
I await your response.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, Racist, Homophobe, Bush did it, That dam Cheney, WAA WAA WAA, Halliburton, Exxon, WAA, Wall Street, WAA WAA WAA, the Banks, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
Keystone's numbers show 6-7,000 jobs, and if it's such a great idea, why don't the Canadians build their own pipeline to their own refinery?
Why, oh why do democrats keep electing idiots like Jan?
You fit in quite nicely here. Keep posting.
I wonder if she would be upset if the president decides to cut 20,000 fed jobs. Hmmmmmm.
6,500 jobs for two years. Calm down.
I don't think you understand.
You have to give some underlying proof or evidence to support your statements.
For example, you blurted out "Keystone's numbers show 6-7,000 jobs".
That's all well and good, but where did you get the statement from?
Otherwise we can have no discussion.
And try not to deflect the argument. That's such a cheap transparent trick.
Said the King of ad hominem.
Oh hypocrisy….The mother's milk of the left.
20,000 is not that many jobs nor is the 1 million energy sector jobs being held back by the Obama energy strategy. Now green jobs that according to Juan Carlos university cost 2.2 jobs for every job created, not to mention often at a great cost to the taxpayer, are a great investment. Is it no wonder some call liberalism a brain disorder.
She is in a totally protected dist in the liberal Nirvana called IL where the libtards have run the state into the ground and only know how to raise taxes on the peons while giving special deals to business and all their Dem crony friends. Lets not forget MASSIVE IL state retirements for the bigwigs. Sounds like Obama land, spends like Obama land where politics is blood sport, is run like Obama land where taxes always go up to feed the legions of people who somehow never worked or get massive link cards even when they work.
My fear is that Obama will spread the wealth around so much we will all be poor and that this will happen to the entire country. When we are equally poor, (the rich will move out of country as they are doing right now by the 1000's) there will not be enough $ to pay for govt in its current bloated form.
Jan does not have to worry about any of this. She is set for life with a juicy fed retirement and connections at the highest levels plus being a very active member of The Socialist Party of America of which 70 sitting House Democrates are also members of. She has all the angles covered. The pillage of America has just begun. There is a new law in IL that minorities can NEVER be redistricted out of their seat even if their population #s go down which is exactly what happened in the last census.
I know 20,000 jobs might not be that many but I also know that one Jan Schakowsky is one too many!
In short, no. In fact, the unions will be pounding the pavement in her favor…they don't know any better.
Sadly, there is nothing "undercover" about Jan and her ilk and yet they are re-elected time and again.
Eee aww!
Did you catch this live? I turned it off as soon as I heard her voice. Why do Don and Roma do this to me?
This communist woman is a disgrace to her constituents…and maybe the other way around too!

Ya gotta admit it Chi,………
Jan in the morning is sure a good waker upper
First thing that comes to mind was a friends episode in which Joey was starving on Phoebe's birthday while waiting forever for the rest of the group to get to the restaurant. The rest finally arrive and Rachel is blabbering on and Joey turn his head and says "never hit a woman, never hit a woman". That is how I feel about this waste of human life.
Hey spazboy! Not all of us can just live with our moms and play World of Warcraft all day like you lot! Americans are struggling out there. Clueless tit.
If you mean "upper" as in my blood pressure…then yes she is.
There was a time when I could listen to her nonsense. That time has long passed.
Great idea…
Jan is possibly the worst spokeswomen for anything expect her convicted felon husband.
The more she speaks the worse it gets.
The libs need to realize she is hurting all causes –
Remove her
Well why don't we start by taking her job,if 20K isn't that much then her "one" is a mere pitence. See how important she thinks her job is when she thinks she going to lose it.
20,000 isn't that many? Democrats have always sucked at math.
20,000 is a lot of anything. The Chevy Volt is the Edsel of our time and setting $535 million dollars on fire would have produced more energy than Solyndra was ever capable of.
20,000 more unemployed is good for Marxists, more people enslaved to government.
Haven't we learned this lesson yet? Green jobs are phantom jobs…nothing but another form of welfare?
This woman BETTER NOT be running unopposed…
Funny that someone who has a job can look at people and tell them that 20,000 jobs isn’t a lot. I would actually like to see someone tell a room full of 20,000 jobless blue collar and middle class workers or anyone for that matter that it’s not a lot. It's quite the wrong view or approach to take. For many blue collar and middle class workers the pipeline could be the saving grace factor that frees them from the trenches of poverty. (http://bit.ly/ytP77z) to delay a decision such as this is a big mistake on the part of the white house, and one that we should take a firm action on so we can move on with a course of action that will benefit us all in the long run. I think that it would be wise to reconsider the matter.
