The New Black Panther Party Case, the Racial Double Standard, And the Rule of Law
by Joel B. PollakThe Nation reported yesterday that President Obama has dispatched the Department of Justice to investigate states that have enacted voter ID laws:
Career lawyers in the civil rights division of the Justice Department, who were frequently sidelined and overruled during the Bush Administration, are reasserting their authority and independence under Obama. They may be the only ones who can halt the GOP’s war on voting.
This is the same Department of Justice that abandoned the open-and-shut case against the New Black Panther Party for voter intimidation.
As whistleblower J. Christian Adams writes in his new book, Injustice: Exposing the Racial Agenda of the Obama Justice Department: “from the advent of the Obama administration in January 2009, it was clear resistance to the case went to the top of the Civil Rights Division and beyond.”
Two presidents, two administrations, two complaints. Who is right? Is the argument over voter rights enforcement merely a political battle that Americans are doomed to re-live with each change of government?
The debate goes deeper than partisanship. It is a clash between two different visions of civil rights and tolerance. One applies the same rules to all. The other imposes different moral and legal burdens according to race.
That double standard goes far beyond the Department of Justice.
For several days, the mainstream media has obsessed over whether the word “nigger” might have appeared on a rock in the Texas backcountry where Republican contender Rick Perry hunted:
The governor’s record on matters of race is attracting new scrutiny after The Washington Post’s account of a secluded West Texas hunting property that Perry and his father leased that has long been known by a name containing a racial epithet.
The name, “Niggerhead,” was painted in block letters across a large rock by the property’s entrance. Perry has described the word on the rock as “an offensive name that has no place in the modern world.” But it remains unclear when or whether he dealt with it while using the hunting camp.
- “Perry built complicated record on matters of race,” Amy Gardner,
Washington Post, October 3, 2011
Yet Barack Obama used the word “nigger” over a dozen times in his first autobiography–not always quoting other people–without causing any fuss from 1995 to the present:
Maybe we could afford to give the bad-assed nigger pose a rest. Save it for when we really needed it.
- Barack Obama, Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance,
Three Rivers (1995), p. 82
Adams reveals how that cultural double standard, when applied by government, undermines the rule of law itself. He documents how the New Black Panther Party offered its public support to Obama at a moment when he was trailing Hillary Clinton and struggling to establish an authentic connection with black voters.
In that context, his administration’s decision not to pursue the case against the Panthers looks like political payback.
If the Department of Justice was “politicized” under George W. Bush, as critics alleged, at least it never embraced a double standard as a philosophy of law. And if Americans’ trust in government is at an all-time low, that is partly because there is seen to be one law for the political elite and the rich, and another law for everyone else.
In the administration of justice, a double standard anywhere corrodes the rule of law everywhere. That, more than race, is why the New Black Panther Party case matters.

Voter fraud could be the ultimate factor in the demise of this nation, with it there is no stopping communists like Obama.
I don't understand what the problem is with voter IDs. I mean, I understand why some people don't like it, but your right to vote isn't infringed simply because you have to show some kind of ID.
Marxists do not believe in the rule of law!….you are so right Bashley.
Just because Holder the current head of justice is so corrupt that he will not listen to any charges of wrong doing by his administration, does not mean that those charges will never be heard. When holder is gone next year there will be new eyes on ALL of these cases. At that time I fully expect many indictments to be handed down. The long arm of the law will get these crooks in the end. A criminal is still a criminal even if he works for the whitehouse.
They are using the DOJ as their own political enforcement arm. Reminds me of the USSR.
Democrats are afraid that voter ID requirements would catch illegal voters and those voters that have outstanding bench warrants against them.
"Republican House Speaker in New Hampshire, Bill O’Brien, was caught on tape explaining why he wanted to disenfranchise young voters.
“The kids [are] coming out of the school and basically doing what I did when I was a kid: voting as a liberal,” he told a tea party group in March. “You know, that’s what kids do. They don’t have life experience and they just vote their feelings.”
Officially, Republicans claim the restrictions are meant to prevent voter fraud, although virtually no evidence of organized fraud has ever been uncovered."

They will fight voter ID as "Fast and Furious" as they do Arizona enforcing illegal immigration. They desperately need the illegal vote as well as the Radicals on the Left voting as many times as they can. They clearly see the writing on the wall now, they will lose this next election. Simply put, having to show ID would stop that.
Lets see here, they are now requiring a license to drive a tractor on your farm, but don't care one iota if a person has a legal and legitimate right to vote…..hmmm.
Officially, Republicans claim the restrictions are meant to prevent voter fraud, although virtually no evidence of organized fraud has ever been uncovered.
It's really just a way to make it more of a hassle for 5 million (mostly Democrat) voters to vote.
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/10/03/new-gop-law...
Especially since those without a valid ID can still cast a provisional ballot and come back several days later with valid proof of who they are. Add to that the low cost of a State-issued ID card and it illustrates how the Left's stance against this issue is a just brazen scheme to stuff the ballot box in their favor.
Justice? LOL
Social Justice.
Racial Justice.
For Obama and his black nationalist and communist followers,
Justice= Vengence.
It's not about fairness or right. It's about administering punishment.
"Help me punish my enemies"
…..You are a Useful Idiot of the Lying Left, Canuck-Spit …..No organized fraud ??….Chicago, Philadelphia, Cleveland….etc. etc……
Anyone notice that lack of racial diversity amongst the Occupy Wall ST. crowd?
I dare say they must be RACISTS!
…..You are a STILL a Useful Idiot of the Lying Left, Canuck-Spit …..No organized fraud ??….Chicago, Philadelphia, Cleveland….etc. etc……
I hear you!!
Kinda like how raising taxes will make life more of a hassle for GOP voters, huh? When simply cutting the ridiculous fat from spending would work.
Funny how a group that f'ing LOVES regulation. LOVES making things difficult for businesses and tax payers isn't on board with this.
HYPOCRITS!!!! You guys take every chance for the government to regulate every aspect of life, but you don't want regulations for PROOF of WHO YOU ARE when you vote???
Nothing says I SUPPORT CORRUPTION more directly than opposing this legislation.
You guys SUPPORT CARD CHECK??????? But you don't support someone being who they say they are in general elections???
LOL!!!! What a crock of crap.
Fair share!!! Shared sacrifice!!! But the biggest recipients of tax payer welfare can't be bothered to PROVE they are who they claim to be when they vote?????
Go back to the frozen tundra, you canadian communist.
Still a far-left sheep incapable of oringal thought_ _http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/post/opposition-to-obama-grows–strongly/2011/10/04/gIQAlch2ML_blog.html http://dailycaller.com/2010/11/23/the-voter-fraud...
Need I go on moron?
Still a far-left sheep. Try thinking for yourself for once Canuck_Twit
So you think that your base is so incompetent that they can't provide legitimate ID? How do they cash a check? How do they buy alcohol? How do they drive?
See, this is ALL about your mass voter fraud movement and EVERYONE knows it, including you dumb asses who pretend like it's so awful to prove eligibility, a common theme amongst you regressives. Not only did I have to provide ID to get into Universal Studios, I had to use finger print ID for my whole family.
By the way, at your democrat rallies, you require photo ID. You disenfranchising your own, or are you really just completely intellectually immature? Don't bother, I know the answer.
http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/06/voter_id_s...
"Black people, young people, old people, gay people, disabled people, and all other "victims" should be tired of being used as an excuse for Democrats to steal elections and ultimately the treasury. Democrats know that 100% participation in anything is not possible, yet they demonize the impossible and blame Republicans.
Ask yourself what you must show valid photo identification for, and you can clearly see why this veto is nonsense. You can't rent a car or cash a check without a valid form of photo ID. You can't get a fishing license without a photo ID. You can't ride Amtrak or sign up for American Idol without a valid photo ID. "
Why do you even bother to comment here?
Your screen name "Canuck" Is reference to being Canadian, so therefor your twisted opinions have no merit in OUR political system…
Sad as I do happen to like Canadian people, but you tarnish that by being such a Buttmunch.
I have literally hundreds of links of voter fraud you all CONTINUALLY perpetuate, just ask Al franken. What an idiot.
I love the assumption you make of your base. That they are immature children who can't provide a valid ID in this nation where you need a photo ID to perform basic functions as an adult in America. Do you always piss on your base? Yeah, you do, and you need the illegal vote to try to steal yet another election. Dumb ass.
Eat a beaver, save a tree, loser…
Voting now appears to be the only thing you don't need an I.D. for….
The reason now seems more than obvious…
Funny, no black anarchists….
What's up with that?
Any black man or woman in any group who attempt to hastle or harrass anyone who votes shall be TAKEN DOWN this election.
Open and shut case against the Panthers? Really. What a bunch of crock. If it was an "open and shut" case against the Panthers, why did Adams file it as a civil and not a criminal complaint? Could the answer be no voter or precinct worker filed a complaint. Oh, and finally, you may want to check out the fact Georgie's own Inspector General found the DOJ had been politicized under his watch. HMMMM

Progressiveists don't have a double standard, they have one standard….do and say whatever works.
I doubt it will come to that.
In 2008 two thugs showed up at a single voting booth in an overwhelmingly black area. As I predicted, in 2010 there was no repeat performance, despite the fact that the Democrats were poised to suffer a historic loss at the polls.
You wouldn't know it by the number of times they pop up in the media (their fiery rhetoric captures people's attention) but the NBPs have never had much in the way of support in the black community (which is why the last rally they held which wasn't a reaction to a police shooting or something was in 1999, and drew less than 100 people).
"It's really just a way to make it more of a hassle…"
Yes, providing ID is quite the hassle. I'm tempted to not buy groceries any more because of it.
Why would the need to provide ID scare off legit voters of any age or color?
Earlier this week, the Election Commission said nearly 217,000 registered voters in the state lack a state driver's license or photo ID. That already was nearly 40,000 more than the election agency had previously estimated.

So go get one! Hell, I'd support free IDs for all these people who are supposedly "disadvantaged" by having to go get one.
Would you support that, or is it still a terrible burden? I mean, I used the magic word "free," didn't I? At what point does it stop being such an unbearable request?
Honestly, we all know that if a state agency visited everyone's house, took pictures, and handed out free photo IDs, folks like you would still be complaining about people having to present those IDs when they vote. You just don't want people to have to verify they're who they say they are.
At least be man or woman enough to admit it.
Islam is all about control…
Anarchists don't want any…
the racial double standard has been going on for some time, correlated with the wide adaptation of affirmative action. Can you really be surprised of BHO reaction to the voter IDs? He has a fraudulent SSN, most likely was an Indonesian citizen attending US colleges/universities on foreign student status. He's a lie, so why should he place any importance on documentation that establishes validity of the right of a person to vote?
The fact is, it's not that hard to get a Photo ID. In CA you get it at the DMV, where you can even make "an appointment" so you don't have to wait so long.
The only problem would be for people who don't have their birth certificate handy. But that's not that hard to get either as far as I know.
And like you said, even if you said "free", they'd still find a way to complain because they don't want fair elections, they don't want to end corruption as long as it benefits THEM.
"Earlier this week, the Election Commission said nearly 217,000 registered voters in the state lack a state driver's license or photo ID."
You keep posting that like it's supposed to mean something. It means that if it is required before the next election, they should get their asses in gear and GO GET A PHUCKING ID. How hard is that?
Please explain to me in detail why it's hard for someone to obtain a Photo ID. Explain each and every obstacle and how it's impossible to overcome those obstacles.
I'll wait.
And? If they want to vote, they should take responsibility and get an ID. It's not all that difficult or expensive.
So the solution is to let 5 million illegals come in and disenfranchise the entire election and ALL voters because these people shoose not to live in modern society. Brilliant.
Furthermore, I bet those number s are wrong as hell, because that means they can't cash a check, buy alcohol, rent a car, pay for ANYTHING with a credit card, etc etc etc. Sorry, hard to trust the numbers of those who have a bad habit of fraud. That means they would have to never drive, never drink and use cash to pay for everything. Meanwhile, you don't invalidate an ENTIRE election for those who willfully choose not to live in modern society. Dumb solution to justify letting Mexicans vote for the Teleprompter Tyrant. Sorry, not happening. The "Brennan center for Justice" whose funding source isn;t listed. Virtually all your left "justice" organizations have ties to Soros. I doubt this is an exception.
The link is to an article about a so called study by the Brennan Center for Justice. This is a far left think tank funded by George Soros. This group has a history of supporting voting policies that benefit the Democratic Party – e.g. voting rights for felons.
It isn't so much that there are impossible to overcome obstacles as that it is an extra step that will result in more people not bothering to vote and will affect demographics that traditionally don't turn out in high numbers (youth, poor, minorities) and who also traditionally happen to vote Democrat.
If people won't go to the trouble of getting an ID, they are clearly not very responsible or motivated about their role as voting citizens. Why should we make it easier for apathetic, uncaring people to cast ill-considered votes?
No surprise that Canuck_Grit links to left-wing propaganda as "evidence."
Exactly, it's not hard at all to get a photo I.D. or find your birth certificate. That is unless you are Barack Obama or any one of the other 3,000,000-4,000,000 illegal aliens that have infiltrated our nation.
HoR beat me to it, but I was going to say the same thing:
Voting is one of the most important rights we have, next to the 2nd Amendment. They both keep the power with the people. But for far too long Americans have not bothered to pay attention or have complained and yet kept voting in the same people over and over again (it should not be a badge of honor to have Kennedy and Byrd serve more time in the Senate than Stalin was in power).
You have basically ruined your argument – it's really not about race or anything else. It's coddling the lazy. Seriously, if someone can't take a half a day out of their time to go down to DMV and pick up a photo ID, they don't deserve to vote. The fact that THEY CHOOSE not to bother to get an ID is NOT MY PROBLEM. The choice is theirs. It's called PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and you have just shown that you do not advocate for that at all. Typical lefty.
LOL! Yeah, with the birth certificates I was definitely thinking about the illegal aliens.
To anyone that has a problem with voter the I.D. proposal please follow this link: http://www.eac.gov/assets/1/Documents/national%20...
Apparently it is a Federal Law to supply a valid driver's license to register to vote, unless of course the States that say this in this PDF are lying. I think not. Please also notice that some states require the last four digits of your SSN if you do not have a drivers license. Finally if you are one of the unfortunate few that has neither you enter "none" as your I.D. number and the state will supply one.
I see a built in way to track potential voting fraud already inherent in the system. Track the "none" population and see where the trail ends.
Oh Canuck_Grit please follow the voter fraud indictments listed below…all from my wonderful home state of Missouri
In 2008 alone ACORN had registered 1,315,037 voters.
Although the organization prides itself for its registration efforts, it also has a long history of scandal. In the state of Missouri in 1986, 12 ACORN members were convicted of voter fraud. But that case was not an isolated incident in the state. In December 2004, in St. Louis, six volunteers pleaded guilty of dozens of election law violations for filling out registration cards with names of dead people and other bogus information. Authorities launched an earlier investigation after noticing that among the new voters was longtime St. Louis alderman Albert “Red” Villa, who died in 1990. The volunteers worked for “Operation Big Vote” — a branch of ACORN — in St. Louis.
On February 10, 2005, Nonaresa Montgomery, a paid worker who ran Operation Big Vote during the run-up to the 2001 mayoral primary, was found guilty of vote fraud. Montgomery hired about 30 workers to do fraudulent voter-registration canvassing. Instead of knocking on doors, the volunteers sat at a St. Louis fast food restaurant and wrote out names and information from an outdated voter list. About 1,500 fraudulent voter registration cards were turned in.
In October 2006, St. Louis election officials discovered at least 1,492 “potentially fraudulent” voter registration cards. They were all turned in by ACORN volunteers.
In November 2006, 20,000 to 35,000 questionable voter registration forms were turned in by ACORN officials in Missouri. Most all of these were from St. Louis and Kansas City areas, where ACORN purportedly sought to help empower the “disenfranchised” minorities living there. But the ACORN workers weren’t just told to register new voters. The workers admitted on camera that they were coached to tell registrants to vote for Democrat Claire McCaskill.
In 2007, in Kansas City, Missouri, four ACORN employees were indicted for fraud. In April of this year eight ACORN employees in St. Louis city and county pleaded guilty to federal election fraud for submitting bogus voter registrations.
And, that was just Missouri.
So, what's the problem?
GET AN ID!
Look, I understand that most of Obama's supporters are lazy and don't want to work. That the only time they like getting up off their porch is to go to the mailbox on the 2d day of every month…..but this is a little ridiculous.
You people want FREE everything.
"Officially, Republicans claim the restrictions are meant to prevent voter fraud, although virtually no evidence of organized fraud has ever been uncovered. "
…at least not when the Democrat wins…eh?
and the states that have passed that law provide FREE ID's to whomever needs one and can prove who they are.
too busy flash mobbin'
Funny, they don't do that in conceal carry states…
afraid of lead poisoning?
Heck, I'd be worried if they didn't ask for one.
Sorry, you can complain if you are not affected, Canadian. Situations in the USA belong here. No airing dirty laundry with dirty Canadians. Move along. Move along.
If this was a problem as you whine, Holder and crew would have gone ape sh!t on it long ago since they are a criminal element that attacks this sort of thing. Move along. Move along.
Of course. The horse blinders he wears only allow so much to pass his field of vision.
Excellent Observation.
Well I guess they won't bother to buy alcohol, drive or cash their checks either.
