If you look at the "police report" it looks more like a traffic ticket. A verifiable police report should have been filed at the station, along with a follow up report. At this point Acorn will have to produce an official printout of the report.

Whoever is handling these investigative reporters needs to have them run videos by them before posting them online. This video does nothing to help the cause against ACORN.

1) The video needs to be seamless without edits.
2) If you can't play the audio in some spots then offer a transcript, or show a visualization of the sound at the very least.
3) Stop claiming the video is unedited when it is clearly now. Show the time-code or something to prove your point.

I really want you guys to be right, but this is not the way to do it. You can succeed at this if you think about what you're doing before you post another video.

I went through 6 pages of comments, and didn't see a reference to anyone asking why the camera batteries (video) died at 26 minutes, but video reappeared when leaving the Acorn lobby… James O'Keefe might want to head off the conspiracy theories with a comment about spare batteries.

It will be very interesting to see the complete, unmuted video with the pulchritudinally challeneged (Katherine?) video used as a reference. Also, is there a large, viewable police report available. Too bad the time stamp on the camera was not set properly to use as a reference.

I'd be interested in seeing the 'police report'. Most agencies I'm aware of, issue case numbers for reports in a sequential manner. Reports taken on a particular day should have numbers that are close to one another. If ACORN decided to cover their asses and file a 'report' after the sting came to light, the case number on their report should be no where near the case numbers being issued on the date the sting occurred.

Um, its not illegal to wiretap your own voice. They obviously have the audio. They need the permission of the lady behind the desk. which of course she wont give because it will probably incriminate her. If she is innocent she should insist that they release the entire audio, she will be exonerated if she is telling the truth, excoriated, if she isnt.

Im going to make a guess that she will NEVER allow them to release what she is saying…. But she WILL insist it is a lie, she has been caught.

I will be the first one to scream for James' head if he has lied about what she actually said. and he will be a very poor man for the rest of his life if that is so.

I think you can tell that the ACORN people were being less than honest when they said they kicked you out of there office, but I would wait until you can put the audio out there before dropping more videos. They just arent as good without the audio.

The defunding of ACORN was not permanent. ACORN, like the New Black Panthers, should be permanently defunded, disbanded, and prosecuted for their criminal actions, particluarly with respect to voter fraud and intimidation.

As you say, you have no experience with non-profit so your second comment is a bit silly — you don't understand the role that non profits play in the market (and I am NOT referring to charities or those that exist on the tax payer's dime); I am referring to the 90% of non-profits that are not like that.

We were formed years ago by a group of companies that required a service. Our market consist solely of those companies, and others that have subsequently joined. Our goal is not to make money for the companies, it is to provide a service to them (that they don't require full time staff to provide, but between all of them, they do). So we are not for profit, since any "profit" would be returned back to the very companies that pay dues to the association for the service we provide. (If we started making money like that, the members would simply vote to reduce their dues the next year.)

Could a for-profit enterprise offer the same service for less? Possibly; however, it's likely that the level of service provided wouldn't be as good; we exist solely to provide the service; a for-profit company would exist for that, and to make money by growth, which at some point always (more or less) results in a drop in the level of service for the original customers.

Consider this example of a successful non-profit. A co-op that sells farm produce. The co-op exists to sell what the farmers produce. The farmers are for profit — they make money on what is sold — but the co-op is not. (It could be, with profits equally divided, but that's not the goal of the co-op.)

A farmer could contract directly with a for-profit wholesaler, and potentially make more money. However, the flip-side is that if the wholesaler goes belly up (as you say, bankruptcies happen in the free market) and until the farmer can replace the wholesaler, the famer makes no money. Or, the farmer is raped financially when the wholesaler decides it needs to make more profit by reducing the price of what it pays for the farmer's produce. Since the true free market has been bastardized by a handful of very large wholesalers, there's an effective monopoly, so the farmers has little choice but to accept the reduced price. The farmer's short-term gain in working with a for-profit wholesaler has now turned into a long term struggle to exist. (And this DOES happen, especially in agriculture!)

So there's a role for the right type of non-profits.

But don't misunderstand me — I do not believe there's a role for many of the non-profits who exist solely on the back of the taxpayer, and, frankly, don't provide a valuable service. For example, if our associate existed to provide a service to 10% of companies, but took a fee (tax) from 100% of companies, then I'd quit as that would be counter to everything I believe in. (Which is why I've no intention of ever working for the govt…)

I think you'll find that most not-for-profits are the ones like the country club. You'd be surprised how many businesses are incorporated that way. The ones giving us a bad name are in the minority. (Why anyone should be surprised by that is beyond me… isn't that always the case?)

The battery does not fix itself when they are going out. It was likely footage from when they are walking in.

Also, perhaps the Camera wasn't 100% synced to the right time. Just because it says 10 instead of 9:30 doesn't mean it's wrong, it also says it's the year 2005

Has anyone tried to get a copy (or see the original) the the report filed with the Philly PD?

The police report the Acorn worker holds up during her "testimony" is NOT the same one that is posted on Media Matters…. is anyone looking into the police report? The round stamp is on the left hand side of the page, but is clearly on the right in the Media Matter's posted version. Also, I'm not a handwriting expert, but the writing on the upper portion of the report appears different from those on the bottom. I'm looking specifically at:
The numbers, (3's and 5's are most obvious – compare the 3 in 30/w/m to the ones at the top of the report).
The slant of the letters in O'keefe's name, especially the J and A.
The numbers at the bottom seem to be an entirely different handwriting than those at the top.

Any handwriting analysts out there??

So… lets get this right, then. There is a second half to this video. Possibly the MOST important thing about this video isn't that ACORN is a criminal organization full of dishonest individuals that play fast and loose with things like "facts" and "laws". No, the main reason for this press conference and the addendum at the end of the video is to call out the main stream media for their role in this debacle.

Do you think that they have more ammunition or do you think they are bluffing… that is the question here. I believe that the TRUTH is the real weapon here, and Media Matters is putting all their hopes into a police report- kinda like Dan Rather putting all his hopes in a forged document at CBS. Am I saying it is forged? No, but I AM saying that Media Matters is doing a bang up job of trying to spotlight the ONLY visible chink in the armor of our heros here. Which is exactly why I think the next installment will address just that, sending Media Matters reputation down in flames (not unlike Dan Rather, actually).

And wouldn't it be awesome if the second half of this video contained, oh, I don't know, say, an interview with the officer who filed that police report? Or perhaps with any of the other people named on that report? I mean, in the REAL world of REAL journalism, there would be things like INTERVIEWS to either corroberate or discredit information. I can just see the second half of this TORCHING Media Matters and other MSM organizations who printed false information without doing their fact checking.

After Cameras are shut off due to low battery, they do tend to gain enough strength to be turned back on briefly. You must not have ever run out of batteries on your camcorder. I can get another 3-4 minutes off my camcorder.

Of course small business' want to make money, its the only way they can survive. I had my own small service business for 7 years, but almost dying made my business die. I'm still confused about your business. When you say you dont have to make profit I cant help noticing that neither does the govt. and the govt. supposedly exists to serve the customers/People and is owned by them. Socialism is simply govt. intervention in the free market. Heres my question..if you dont make profit, your consumers/owners lose wealth how can they sustain this relationship without disappearing from the market?

They don't lose wealth, because if they hadn't formed us to perform this service, they'd be paying someone else to do it anyway. Over-paying, probably. (Or paying for it in-house which on a company by company basis would be horribly wasteful.)

The country-club example below is a good one; it exists for its members, not to make a profit. Now, it may be more cost effective for the members to contract with a for-profit management company (or not). The club probably contracts with multiple for-profit vendors. There's still profit involved, just not for the non-profit itself.

And unlike a homeowner's association, members of a country club can opt not to join…

Your advice for the Dems is pretty much useless. They can't cut fast enough or run far enough. They are in way too deep. ACORN is essentially the clearing house for another 300 NPOs. It seems pretty clear to me that there is a very high probability they didn't provide sufficient traceability to prove government money hasn't gone into political endorsement activities, which is a violation of federal law. If you've setup the system as a shell game, that opens all the groups up to RICO. ACORN is tied to the SEIU. ACORN is tied to George Soros. George Soros ties into almost all the rest of big money operations that promote the Dems. Right now the Dems are desperately trying to put a firebreak between ACORN and the rest of these organizations. ACORN is so much toast I'd feel sorry for Bertha if she weren't in it so deep herself. The question now isn't whether ACORN goes, but whether ALL of the operations they've been setting up go, or if it is just the shell that is left after they move the money and the people elsewhere.

PA has a similar wiretapping law to MD. Okay to record if "no reasonable expectation of privacy" exists. Have to wait for MD judiciary to decide their case … ACORN is publicly-funded and so I believe should fall under "no reasonable expectation of privacy," making the audio/video LEGAL.

During the release of the first 5 videos, someone (Big Bertha? not sure) said that James had called prior to make an appointment at Philly ACORN from his own cell phone. Supposedly, after they left, an ACORN employee referred to the caller ID on the office phone and got his name from that.

Turtle–if what you say is the case it doesn't help ACORN in the least, it just shows that they realized they had been had and tried to prepare a story. They still have to explain why Katherine claims they were kicked out quickly and why they reported an altercation when in fact they spent 32 minutes in the office–most of it talking with her–and she did not bat an eyelid when the subject of prostitution was brought up and there was no altercation of any sort. The likeliest explanation seems to be that the office manager learned soon after the pair left who O'Keefe was and filed a false report.

Also, the sound and video work off the same set of batteries. They did not say they changed the batteries. Normally you have a lot more recording time than thirty minutes. You can normally can record up to two hours. You figure they would have fully charged the camera in order to prevent the battery from dying in the middle of the appointment. A good investigator would.

That they are willing to acknowledge this is important — it sets them entirely apart from Dan Rather, or the entire masthead of the New York Times — who goes after Republicans but pretends to do so from a position of neutrality — but they quite obviously have an agenda.

Can you please explain the battery situation?

One question that keeps popping into my mind is why that particular story line? Why not just ask for help to dodge taxes? That would work to prove that the agency was corrupt. Why underage prostitutes from El Salvador?
This a story line that is obviously fake and I find it difficult to believe that anyone would have believed it.
I've lived in poor neighborhoods before and this scenario just would not have happened.

The whole time they were claiming to say these comments about prostitution and what not the video either froze or the audio cut in and out (they would say something and you do not hear any background voice of the Acorn rep).
