Obama on the Daily Show: How the Political Class Thinks
by John M. O'HaraIn his Daily Show appearance last night, President Obama made a very revealing—and presumably inadvertent—statement about those in Congress who have supported his radical agenda.
In the context of many congressional seats being up for grabs in what pundits and prognosticators are predicting to be a GOP wave election, Obama stated that many of his allies in Congress voted for politically tough bills because they believed “it was the right thing to so” despite being in conservative-leaning districts.

On the surface, what the President says sounds so noble. These politicians are doing what they think is right. They’re standing up despite outside pressure! Except they aren’t standing up for the right people: their constituents. “Doing what they think is right” is warm and fuzzy code for “what Nancy Pelosi / President Obama tells them is right.”
Elected officials aren’t supposed to vote for what is right in their minds alone. What seems right in the halls of power amidst meetings with tax-eater special interests and arm-twisting White House political hacks is quite likely not what’s right for the people elected officials are supposed to represent. This sort of backwards thinking, internalized even by the President, is exactly why the American electorate is upset with the political status quo. Elected officials are supposed to vote for what is right in the minds of their constituents for whom they work.
This concept is a foreign notion to the political class, particularly the liberals who currently have the reins and are, to borrow an analogy from the President and funny-guy-turned-scary Senator Al Franken, driving our country off a cliff. They believe that it is their job to determine what is right and then “communicate” it to the ignorant, confused masses, which is why they are already selling the likely losses in the upcoming election as PR issues. But it isn’t. It’s the policy, stupid.
If, as President Obama states, members of Congress are making “tough” votes that are tough because they are in sharp contrast to the will of their constituents, then these members are, by definition, not doing their jobs. Hopefully voters will keep this in mind as they exercise their right next Tuesday to make some serious personnel changes.

Bull pucky! Congressional members voted the way they did to save their fat posteriors and their cushy jobs. Some were coerced, some were threatened, many were browbeaten; but in the end all but a few dims caved in to save their jobs without a single thought for their constituents. Heck, they didn't even read the proposed legislation before voting on it. So how could they have discussed it with the folks back in their state or district? Did they check the polls? Apparently not or they would have seen that the majority opposed almost all your infamous legislation. Good grief, BO, quit trying to feed me and the rest of the country pabulum(PC for BS).

Sure, in a Democracy. But in a Republic, they are bound to only vote for what their constituents want within the scope of enumerated powers delegated to them by the Constitution. Even if constituents want something beyond that, it is their FIRST duty to vote NO.

It would appear that we have us here an oxymoron. "Political class" and "thinks" in the same sentence is definitely a contradiction in terms.
I have always felt that the original intent of the Founding Fathers was that the Senate was designed to use their own conscience and deliberation to determine how they would vote on a particular issue. While the House would only be concerned about how their constituents would vote on a particular issue.
This is another check and balance for the Federal government and it provides another buffer from the tyranny of the majority. This is why one term is 6 years and one is 2 years. Also, with Senators historically being representatives of the states and not directly to the people, they had the opportunity to think more about how bills in Congress would effect the business of the states and not the citizens themselves.
Regardless, what we have today is both houses doing whatever they feel it takes to get re-elected. Even the congressional democrats miscalculation concerning Obamacare was because Bill Clinton convinced them that if they did NOT pass it, the voters would hold them responsible for NOT passing it. Of course, Willy clearly misread the tea leaves in both instances, in 1993 and in 2010.

Saw an article yesterday, I believe, stating that they think there is a "liberal gene". It also stated that "It wasn't necessarily their fault they are liberal, it's in their genes". Well…The same could be said about pathological liars.
Constituents in these verminous peoples eyes are only fodder used for gaining power. Once power has been gained there is no longer need for the "un-washed masses".

If The Republic was meant to be governed merely by majority consensus (which, no matter how you slice it, is what "voting for what's right in the minds of their constituents" boils down to) we would have no need of Representative Government. – we'd be a mob-rule "pure" Democracy, a recipe for absolute disaster.
The genius of both our Constitutional Republic and Representative Government is that said Representatives are, once elected, empowered to use their own judgement at their particular level of policy – up to an especially including instances where they feel that their constituents are in the wrong or, at least, misguided. Likewise, if when said Representative's term is up, if said constituents still disagree, they are empowered to vote them out.

Friend, around half or more of the country being in direct opposition to the other half – and ONE or the other "in power" – is basically the default operating status of the United States. The essence of a Republic is a near-constant state of disagreement, debate and even conflict.
Heck, it's been with us even before the CIVIL War! Only a 3rd – and maybe less – of Americans were strong supporters of The Framers; the other 2/3rds either wanted to remain British subjects or "didn't care."

Mr. President. They are not elected to vote for what they think is right. They are elected to vote the people's will. What they think is right or wrong should have no place in the discussion.
Actually, Walker, regardless of what you FEEL the intent of the framers was, the Senate is supposed to represent the best interests of the STATES, and the House is supposed to represent the interests of the PEOPLE. The reason a Congressman is called REPRESENTATIVE is because s/he is supposed to LISTEN to the wishes of the people who elected him/her, and then vote accordingly. The Senators are supposed to act in the best interests of the STATES they represent. NOTHING that has been passed so far during the Obama Administration has been voted in the best interests of the People or the States.
It's fascinating.____The ego driven intellect of the Obama ilk compromises their morality and blinds their collective vision.____My main question is: Other than the wholely owned MainStreamMedia, who told these guys they are intellectuals? Other than their mentors in academia, who told them they were smart?____The president told us that he is maligned by the his personal perception that (paraphrased) 'many folks don't believe in facts and science out there'.
Now, the main issue facing our country is the Economy. And, as we know, economics is NOT science. It's applied theory, at best. And, pure speculative conjecture at worst. Additionally, it's been proven over and over that the Administration doesn't seem interesting in working with economic 'facts' anyway.
And, climate. Again, prognostication and prediction; not science. And again, the 'facts' depend on politics.
So, how someone who doesn't even know what science is and has a purely political definition of 'fact'…..how is this person an intellectual?
