QUESTION AUTHORITY! Take a Stand Against the Man; Buy a Ford
by John LoudonThe late Robert Brewster Loudon, my father, departed this World, just two years ago. While I hated to lose and deeply miss him, I am so glad he has not had to see what is happening to his Country. You see, his story is like so many from the Greatest Generation although rather unique. He survived the Great Depression. He was drafted into World War II, and spared combat when the Japanese surrendered. His story is unlike many because in the history of this Country, few people loved the American automobile like my father.

My father did hands on, ground up restorations on more classic cars than I can count. He personally founded many car clubs over the years and was a regular at national swap meets and the big annual gatherings. His personal favorite was always the Kenosha, Wisconsin gathering of the defunct company, American Motors Corporation. He was pretty widely published and also recognized as one of the best professional car appraisers. He even raced semi-pro for the SCCA and once set a speed record at Daytona. He wrote a book on cars that he never published. I will never forget where the happy tale turns bittersweet. The man, who ALWAYS believed in buying American, announced to his four boys that he had bought all of us something that will last forever, and always grow in value-General Motors common stock.
My father was mercifully spared seeing the unprecedented crushing of millions of “clunkers” that he saw as “history,” or at least testaments to mans’ boundless talent and creativity. He missed the near collapse of the American car market. Fortunately, he also missed the takeover of his beloved General Motors by the Obama administration as the government raiders virtually stole the company from shareholders and handed it over to their friends and their Big Labor allies.
On September 1, 2009 in reaction to the boycott by left-of-center groups of Whole Foods, the St. Louis Tea Party launched the BUYcott, calling for consumers to deliberately shop at the niche grocer in an effort to support CEO and founder John Mackey. Mackey was assailed by the hard left groups because he wrote a column in the Wall Street Journal suggesting that the solution to the health care problem lay not with more government but with more freedom in the marketplace. While the BUYcott was conceptualized just five days prior, over 1000 people showed up in one two hour period and turned in receipts totaling over $50,000.
The BUYcott was launched by the St. Louis Tea Party, but was also supported by Tea Party activists around the Country including events in Connecticut, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Dallas, Austin, Plano, San Antonio, Los Angeles and San Diego. According to Gina Loudon, who conceptualized the event, “We launched the BUYcott to defend our free market economy against the forces for more government and special interest control. We showed that the Country is full of patriots who are willing to fight by modifying their spending habits”.
Tea Party leaders were looking for the next big project and believe they found a perfect candidate in Ford. Remember last year, when Obama almost dubbed a kid with the title “Car Czar” who, just like the POTUS himself, had zero real World business experience? GM and Chrysler were bellying up to Uncle Sugar for their share of public assistance and were assailed by Congressmen; some with little to no real business experience themselves. Ford CEO Alan Mulally showed he had a much better perception of what it means to be an American than most of the Congressional pinheads who were grilling him. According to Bloomberg news reporter Keith Naughton, Mulally observed, that
Americans “want companies to be successful.
We don’t want to nationalize companies.”
Ford is the only American car maker who weathered this terrible economy without taking bailout funds or caving to what many see as an unprecedented and even wholesale takeover by the Obama administration and the unions of American car makers General Motors and Chrysler. Announcing the boycott, Loudon observed, “While it is tragic to see these once proud companies go, since Ford is the only American maker that remains in control of shareholders and not government agents and labor unions, the purchase of a Ford is a strike against big government.”
Tea Partiers are encouraging every patriot to consider a Ford as their first car choice. “We are calling this the “Ford for Freedom BUYcott” said Loudon. It is critical that we take a strong stand against creeping socialism. Buying any other American car make is supporting the parasites that have infected the host, so we are calling on liberty loving Patriots who are looking for a car to buy a Ford, and then send us a copy of their receipt so that we can tally our effect”, said Loudon.
Receipts can be sent to gina@stlouisteaparty.com.
Regular readers of Big Government will be familiar with the new strategy of taking the tactics of leftist Saul Alinsky and turning them back on the statists. It is both ironic and extremely troubling, that the hard leftists of the 60s, who fine tuned these tactics fostering a hatred of America calling on people to “question authority” and otherwise resist “the Man” are now the ones fully in control. They are now “the Man”. Let’s see how well they play defense, shall we?

Already done sir! We purchased a Ford Fusion last summer because Ford did NOT take the bail out. We are beyond pleased with the car and the service and this house will not be buying anything but Ford from now on.
I am sure the folks in Dearborn will appreciate it. Fords are good cars – and Ford is well run. When I bought last year – I was concerned about warranties being good long term but I bought a Jeep because I wanted a Jeep. And Jeep has been with us in one form or another – Willy's, American Motors, Chrysler – for a long time. I figured if Chrysler went under – Jeep would probably be bought by Ford. Maybe it still will.
I will NEVER buy a Chrysler product because of the way they axed their dealers……..it was THEFT.
Never another new Govt Motors car either.
I would consider a Ford (gawd just saying that makes me ill)………..
Even with their current problems I would buy a Toyota…….after I wear out my Honda.
I don't buy new cars anyway…….I prefer to let someone else take that 1st year $$ hickey.
Good read! I already own two Fords, and to really piss the statist off a Toyota for good measure. If we can organize the purchase power of the Tea Party, politicians, and business tycoons alike will be begging us to re-enter our lives, buy stuff, pay taxes, expand our businesses etc.
Not only are the 60s radicals now "the man," we, the Tea Partiers, are now the civil rights activists.
GO FORD GO!!!
Hell yeah.
Great article. This is exactly how I have been thinking. Unfortunately I'm not in the market for a new car now (both are paid for), but I will definitely consider Ford when I'm ready for a new car. I will NOT buy GM, Chrysler… even though I love the Jeep I will not buy a post 2008 Jeep if I buy another.
This is the only way we can send a signal to NObama's administration that we DO NOT support his bail outs. Now, if they'd only listen for once…
My family was all-GM since 1968 – probably dozens of cars including my parents, myself and my brothers. Never again! When my 1996 Saturn goes, I'll be looking at a Mustang convertible (which has been my dream car since I was a little girl). The 2011 looks fabulous. Of course, I won't purchase any vehicle brand new. 2014?
Before that happens, though, I'll have to keep financing the college education of my Obama-voting stepchildren.
That's exactly what I'll be doing… I did ponder a Toyota but considering the recent issues, which I'm sure are not as bad as the media states…. regardless Ford here I come…
On another topic: Is anyone having issues with the Fox News website??? Interesting that I can get on any other website but their's???
I wouldn't drive a GM or Chrysler if it was free.
They are not car companies anymore. They are giant union pension plans that occasionally manufacture a car.
Collectively they were given $80 billion dollars and there is just no way that they can ever pay it back. They are no different than the Post Office or Amtrak now.
I cannot envision a time in the future when they will not be a giant welfare program anymore. If you want a textbook example of Barack Obama's plans for redistribution of wealth from capitalists and investors to socialist labor unions all you have to do is look at GM and Chrysler.
If the UAW says it's about American jobs, then why are Cadillac Escalades and SRXs built in Mexico? What happened to buy American? I've been buying Fords before buying Fords was cool. Hey that would be a great T-shirt.
My first car was a 1969 Mustang Fastback … I miss that car.
Anyway, I won't even be buying a Ford because they're still a UAW run operation. Of course I don't buy new cars anyway, so my "boycott" isn't all that big a deal.
I'll stick with my 1970 Porsche thankyouverymuch.
I decided to not only not buy any Government Motors product, I also will not rent a car made by Government Motors.
If a non GM car is not available, I go to a different rental car company. I do rent cars aout 12-15 times a year.
Frank
Ford is the only US auto maker that I would ever consider buying from… the others took my money and never asked what color I wanted my new car painted! I refuse to contribute any of my dollars to the government motors groups!
Done. F150
Hey Karen why not stop financing them, they will get the student loan but pay an extra percentage point. It is a good life lesson elections have consequence. Maybe then they will stop voting American Idol style.
Thats a winner of an idea frank. Rentals is where they wear the new off for us used buyers.
Why would ANYONE buy a vehicle that has it's 'warranty' through the U.S. government??? They're not exactly know for their 'prompt service'…if you get any service at all!!
I used to love the GM brand and the cars that fell under. Pontiac was bad-ass, Cadillac had style and Chevy was the working man's vehicle. Now all that is gone under the same stifling bureaucratic beige blandness of a public urinal.
No thanks to Government Motors and Zombie Chrysler. Obama can have 'em. I will never purchase another federally owned car company's junk unless they somehow escape the clutches of the UAW and Obambi.
My next car is a Ford.
I finished with American cars years ago. My last American car was an early Saturn. It lasted over 18 years and 250k with no major engine repairs. Sadly, GM has since ruined that company.
Prior to that I had a Chrysler and a Chevy, which needed major engine work at 80k and 38k respectively. I worked my way through college as a mechanic, and while I never owned a Ford I drove and fixed enough of them to know they weren't any better.
I don't even consider American cars anymore.

Already done. My first car was a 1980 Ford Mustang. Since then I have owned 2 Thunderbirds, an Econoline conversion van, an F-150, and two Escapes. ALL of them lasted 150,000 miles at the least before any major repair. My Mustang lasted for 212,000 miles before I sold it. Nuttin' but the best from Ford!
Did you know that the majority of the dealers that survived the cuts had previously donated to democratic campaigns? Just as they have done with the "stimulus" dollars they did with the dealerships. They show favoritism to those who support them and persecute the rest.
Mr. John Louden,
I AM NOT ALONE!!!!!!
Thank GOD for your article and this BUYcott.
I currently own 2 Ford products, and I will only consider replacing them with other Ford products. I was always more of a Ford fan, but now it is the ONLY option. As others here have said I will NEVER buy a Gubmint Motors, or a ChryRenault… One reason is they were bailed out, the other reason is that the fricking Unions are totally complicit in the fall of the American Car Industry, and to GIVE the Unions 55% of the sock is like handing your chickens to the fox, and giving him a big jug of gravy too.
I went one step farther. When the whole car bailout was in the news and Ford rejected Govt. money, even though my current holdings in Ford stock were WAY DOWN, like only 42% of what I paid for them, I QUADRUPLED DOWN and bought quite a bit more FORD stock. That was a VERY good idea…
I will not sell them. I will hold them because it is a critical AMERICAN industry and company. I have been slowly diversifying all of my investments into SOLID American key companies, industries, and such that have NOT taken Bailout money.
I did wait for years for the new Camaro, only to have it ruined by the government take over. Would never own on now, besides the new 5.0 Mustang was worth the wait.
Just remember these are now socialist companies. They do not care if you buy them the government will take your money via new taxes to pay the union scum that are now the new owners.
Remember union member these scum who run your group will sell you down the river for peanuts if it means they will control you all in the end.
"I will never purchase another federally owned car company's junk"
It would be nice to see the Patriot and Tea Party movement demand that their candidates promise to return all nationalized companies back into private ownership.
The federal government has no business being involved in business.
Karen,
I suggest you redistribute their tuition into a BRAND NEW Ford Mustang. Then explain reality to your step kids and see how they like it…
Bought a Ford Escape Limited in January. Absolutely love it!
Perhaps a new acronym can be used with the "buycott" to replace the "Fix Or Repair Daily" (one I'm sure Ford would be happy to see go away), and would go with what GinaLoudon dubbed the “Ford for Freedom BUYcott” campaign.
FORD – Freedom Or Regressive Democrats
So you bought a Toyota, which employs FAR LESS Americans (see jobspercar.com), all of the profit returns to Japan, and has proven to be a lying and deceitful company?!?!? Wow, you're a true patriot! Moron.
Henry Ford was a Socialist !!!!!!
Right there with ya! My father was a premier restorer/customizer, as well. Here's a link to some of mine that I have done (I grew up in the business, and can do my own… but my dad was right, "Trust me, you don't want to do THIS for a living").

CM Sackett
…and no, hell no, I will never buy a 'Govmotor' rig (and I went through a ton of '69 Chevelle SSs, '72 BB Monte's and other classic "A" bodied muscle rides, in my day… loved them ALL).
Sackett
"employs FAR LESS Americans (see jobspercar.com)"
What an idiot. OF COURSE Toyota has lower manhours per car- they're more efficient and therefore actually profitable. The US automakers are mired in archaic featherbedding UAW work rules and effectively prevented from modernizing.
Nor do Toyota's profits "all go back to Japan." They go to shareholders all over the world- including you if you care to buy Toyota stock. Toyota is a mainstay of Worldcap mutual funds, in which many, many US pension funds and other institutional investors hold stakes.
CLARIFICATION: I forgot that I added the Imperial to this album. I purchased this old beauty in "new" condition a few years ago. Sold it to a gentleman in Denmark a couple of years back… it's still winning shows, all over Europe.
CM Sackett
Already own a Mercury and a Mazda (owned by Ford, made in Kansas City).
I buy American cars, I have never owned a Honda, Toyota, Mercedes, etc. Unfortuneately, if I look at the monroney sticker on almost any of the cars that I have ever owned, I would find that while most are assembled here, most of the parts were made overseas! I cannot in good conscience just blindly go out and buy a Ford for that reason, especially when my current car works just fine.
I wouldn't buy a Ford or any other union-thug produced auto if you gave me a new Ford every two years for the one I purchased.
Take a REAL stand and buy an American non-union labor produced auto such as the Hyundai Sonata (manufactured in Montgomery, AL). I try my best to avoid buying anything with the "union label."
"General Motors Co. made the first payment on its giant installment loans from the U.S. and Canadian governments on Friday, sending $1 billion to the U.S. Treasury and $192 million to Canada."
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/12/18/busines...
I love the idea of the "buycott" but focusing on Ford is misplaced. Let us not forget that the corporate entities of GM / Chrysler were really just the conduits through which passed a taxpayer bailout of the UAW.
In turn, the UAW is also at Ford, the bailouts enabled the UAW to refuse concessions to Ford, and so Ford in effect is also a conduit through which the taxpayers have been forced to bailout the UAW (albeit just a bit more indirectly in the case of Ford).
This 2006 Jeep owner has no plans to reward Obama and his UAW supporters in the future — I'M ALREADY GIVING AT THE OFFICE VIA PAYROLL TAXES.
There are plenty of fine vehicles assembled by non-UAW Americans, and they are the ones that deserve our patronage and support.
Having experience the Union drive first hand early on in my career, I made a choice, no union made product in my life if I could possibly help it. I bought my first Toyota in 1971, I had a ranch in Texas prior to retiring. Toyota didn't make 1 ton duallys so I bought a Dodge, the good part is that is was made in Mexico(no union there). I will avoid GM and Chrysler. I will give ford a chance should I ever need to replace the truck. I drive Japanese Cars, they are reliable, effecient and not Union made. The UAW has forced stockholders into losses in their retirement accounts, I'll be damned if I will willingly contribute another dime to theirs. You can take the Union label and put it where the sun don't shine.
Well, it's your loss. I have a new Camaro and it definitely wasn't "ruined by the government take over." Idiot.
Brilliant JK144 ………….good question for the upcoming election season; Do you have a plan for
returning American car co's to private sector ownership? In fact we should be asking this ques-
tion right now, offense is always more fun than defense.
Ford is Golden! Go for it America!
Here is the ad I was thinking about. I thought of this a couple of weeks ago.
All the board members are sitting around the table, talking about how hard times are nowadays. Then one of them turns to the CEO, well, should we take a government bailout?
CEO , responds , nah, I've Got a Better Idea. Let's give Capitalism a chance. Everyone stands and applauds.
Ford, We've Got a Better Idea.
I loved my little 63 Falcon Sprint………………….Mr. President, " Keep your socialistic hands off my Corvette".
Hey rabid…bite me!
Now if only they could get away from planned obsolescence as a means to sell parts. Consider how much more expensive the parts are at the dealership than they are at the local parts stores and tell me it doesn't reek of opportunism. Ford has an excellent opportunity here. It would also help considerably if they would provide the same variety of vehicles they have been offering on the European markets. Many Americans want, and have wanted, fuel efficient vehicles since long before SUV's became all the rage.
[...] QUESTION AUTHORITY! Take a Stand Against the Man; Buy a Ford March 30, 2010 — budsimmons QUESTION AUTHORITY! Take a Stand Against the Man; Buy a Ford [...]
I've been reading good things about Fords, but previous experiences were not good, and I have had great luck with Toyota and Hondas for the past 15 years. Still, they are worth a look.
My dad passed away March of 2009 my mom Jan of 2010. My dad fought in Europe and received 2 bronze stars. I miss them very much but am so glad Dad did not see what is going on right now. Everything he fought against is happening to this country right now by the Fifth column of Narxist/Communists that have taken over our Ubiversities/Government and Press. We are losing the war against Communism. What a waste all those lost lives will be if they succeed in taking over.
I just got a 2010 Toyota Tundra Limited w/ 5.7 V8. Best truck i have ever had. Its going to be a while before you wear out that Honda.
I have been very pleased with my 2003 Ford truck. Bought it new and it has 130K on the odometer without a single service issue to date. I've heavily modified it to near 600rwhp just to piss of the 'vette owners on the 1/4 mile.
Fords and Bimmers in this household.
I notice Rabid keeps signing his posts. Is Idiot its first or last name?
Let's check the government track record. Fannie, failure. Freddie, failure, Post Office, failure. AMTRAK, failure. Stimulus, failure. Bailouts, failure. Border security, failure. Economy, failure. Fiscal responsibility, failure. Honesty and integrity, failure. Buy a government car? No friggin way.
the ford fiesta is also built in Mexico. The F-series trucks are soon to be built in Mexico as soon as the plant is finished and the ford engine plant is in Chihuahua Mexico. Ford hopes to have over 500,000 of their cars and trucks and 330,000 of their engines coming from plants in Mexico by 2012.
Hellforbreakfast is a tool!
Actually, I'm sticking with my Toyota Scion. I think too much was made about the Toyota crap that was going on, especially from our government (geez, I wonder why).
I've been driving Toyota for the last 20 years and I've never had a problem.
The 5.0 Mustang is OK. You want the 5.4 quad cam mustang.
28gpm, 70mph @ 1500rpm in 6th gear or because I have freedom of choice, screw the efficiency, 0 to 60 in 4.7 sec. blkvette
Great article John, I too have been glad my family members are no longer on this earth during
our present time of difficulty. As automobile enthusiasts my spouse & I often joke, " If we had
been financially able to hold on to all the cars we've owned that would now be valuable classics
we wouldn't need any retirement accounts. We've restored many classics in the last few years,
only as a hobby, & most have been Fords. Our main 'classic car' that will never be sold is a
1963 Ford Galaxy 500 XL (notch-back) in Rangoon Red. This is an identical match to the car my
spouse & I dated in for a couple of years before we married. The original was driven on the street
all week & prepared for the drag races a couple times a month. We found no bigger thrill in life
than handing those arrogant Chevy 409/427 boyz their azzes at the local dragway back in the 60's.
The young'uns at the car shows now days are amazed that we drag raced this land-yacht & actually
won races. They are familiar with its use in NASCAR, but most have never researched back to the
beginning of the muscle car era, when 'full-size' Ford & GM cars with mega-horsepower were the only
game in town. We have a blast answering their questions & witnessing their curiosity, for we know
the next time we see them they will be the 'experts', due to the computer age. Funny they will argue an
unfactual 'factoid' they read on a web-site with the old guys that were actually engaged in the 60's, for
hours. Good to see C Shelby live long enough to become an icon, so many from that era left us long
before their genius was recognized.
while it is true that Henry Ford hobnobbed with famous globalists of his day, the current version of today's Ford Motor Company could not be further from being associated with that agenda– since it has not only refused to take any federal stimulus money, but continues to innovate to improve its product line, all without government influence or intervention– and yes, I already know what you're thinking, reading this: "He's a Ford guy!" (actually only a Ford vehicle owner and fan, not an actual employee)
Anon? Is that you?
So, you bought a Camaro, Huh? Too bad the Mustang beat the crap out of it in Road & Track's test of the muscle cars. The mustang handles and brakes better, has a better interior, is lighter, gets better gas mileage, and is better looking. There's also far more available in the aftermarket for the mustang too.
Idiot.
Our next car will be a Ford because the shareholders were screwed at GM and Chrysler. Period!
Don't blame Ford for this so much as the UAW. If the UAW didn't have a stranglehold on the auto industry, GM might not be a government subsidiary, and more Fords would be made in the US. Had GM gone into bankruptcy, it may have survived, but the UAW would have been screwed, and this had more to do with the bailout–our Prezy Dent is in the pocket of unions. (Look who his sneak NLRB appointee is…)
I suspect John Loudon is a closet commie.
You notice he plays with the words but in truth ford and the obama game played with the words but in the end we tax payers GAVE ford $7,000,000,000 last year and not as a loan but to keep under the smoke screen to use to design electric cars.
Ford has been good since way back in 1930s when Henry Ford was a personal friend of hitlers and in fact Ford donated and helped sell Nazi books bashing the jews.
Ford just sold Saab to the fricking commie China for 2 billion dollars and has been playing this "see how good we are" when in fact ford has been playing and hiding their debt. A loan of almost 8 billion in debt and counting is due by 2013 and you can bet who is going to bail them out
I see no print from John Loudon as how in WW-II GM on their own money of billions of dollars to make products to win the war were never paid back but you see ford itself did little to defend this country in those times
GM got where it is because of morons who allowed the japs to brainwash them into buying junk cars and now as reported today YOU will be paying $3,000,000 plus as obama gang just directed NASA to find and fix toy ota design flaws that have killed over 60 Americans and hundreds injured.
Japan just last year took home $136,000,000,000 American dollars and do so every year and you wonder why this country is loaded with the John Loudons who spout hate against American nameplates like GM which BTW has already repaid most of the government loan 5 years sooner then planned and that included huge interest costs paid.
About time people STFU and buy American products and you may find GM cars are as good as the junk from japan and the cars ford makes outside of the USA for blaming GM for the unions is like blaming me for obama stealing our country.
Excellent recommendation – a fantastic company with a fantastic lineup of vehicles. Unfortunately, i buy my car only when it needs to be replaced, but ford will be foremost on my next purchase.
I know but lots of $$
Succinct and to the point. I always wondered how the civil rights activists and the general mass of 60's radicals protesting against 'the man' would behave once they won.
Now we know. They are everything and more than what they protested against. I recognized this same conundrum when the Unions were inappropriately given preference over secured investors in that bankruptcy filing. Once they had control of the company they had bled to death, their first move was to monetize their interest so they would not be in a position to have to negotiate with themselves (they need to always be the victim or the victims champion).
Little said about it but recently the UAW sold their stake in Ford to pay down the shortfall in their pension plans. They have embezzled those funds and needed the bailout and skewed reorganization plan to cover their crimes.
The bailout was ONLY about the unions.
UNIONS = DEATH TO THE ECONOMY
UNIONS are the reason companies go 'off-shore' with jobs
UNIONS are the reason we have fallen from the pinnacle of world power.
EVERYTHING Obama has done can have a direct line drawn to the benefit of the unions with Health Care at the top of the list.
UNIONS are the new Haliburton!!!
As my avatar attests, I am fan and owner of a Ford Focus. I drove one around Europe and bought one when I returned to the US. In 2011 the US Focus will be the same as the Euro Focus and I intend to buy another. Top Gear took a poll and the audience voted Ford the best overall car company. I concur.
You got it right Julie. Look for the UNION label,,,,,and buy the competition!!
You discredit your argument by being wrong on basic facts. Ford didn't own Saab, GM did. Ford sold Volvo to China. If you want to know who killed American car manufacturing, look no further than the UAW!
John Loudon: You will probably never see this, but thought I would tell you, I lost my dad at about the same time a retired Navy Man. I miss him, but I too am glad he did not live to see this. Had he lived, this may have very well killed him.
Who would want an Obaman-Eight anyway?
Does Obama even drive a car? Can he shift? Can he change the oil or a tire? Where is Michael Moore with a new automobile movie, "Barry and Me?" The parallels are almost perfect. Killing jobs, etc. Just change Roger to Barry and reissue it, with some other slight changes. If Roger killed Michigan, Barry is burying it.
FORD = FIRST ON RACE DAY.
I'm not in the market either, I bought a Saturn in '07 at the time I had my head in the sand and thought I was doing the 'right thing' buying American. Saturn closed up and they have moved their warranty service to GM and I had to have a recall fixed and IT ABOUT KILLED ME to give GM business. The dealers though, they employ people and bring money to the community so I guess I can look at it that way. I won't buy a GM product again, but according to the Transportation Security they are going to be pushing bicycles for us all to drive. I'm not into cars can anyone tell me who makes the SMART cars? Thanks
Thumbs up that was hilarious!!
In the last 20 years I have had 2 vehicles both Fords. I've spent more time driving my 2 trucks without a payment then I have with one. My next vehicle will also be a Ford.
Even if I was a GM guy I would be very scared to invest in there current shell game.
Henry Ford died a while back. Let him rest for a minute.
GO FORD GO!!!
Thumbs up for you!! We always use to say F'd over rebuilt dodge or found on road dead I really like Freedom or Regressive Democrats
It's too bad, I have a 2008 Saturn Outlook that is an excellent vehicle. GM was just finally understanding the whole quality bit. it in the 2005+ period of time, it's too bad 20 years of bad quality is tough to turn arround quickly. Blaming them for the bailout is blaming the symptom and not the disease. I don't blame them for getting bailed out, I blame them for a shoddy product.
I would love to buy a Ford, but I had a 1991 Escort that was worst car ever made. At 50K miles it threw a gear. Litterally there was a 2 X 3 hole in the bottom of the transmission, and that was after a worn serpentine belt, a blown master switch and the fastest fading brakes i've ever seen…. I still have PTSD from that car. Maybe I can work through it and buy a Fusion, though right now I'd rather have a runaway Prius….
StoryKeeper — As always, you've offered up incisive remarks.
In a better world, there would be hundreds of union "officials" sitting behind bars right now. Very often, it would be the official, his wife and about half his in-laws. That's just how they roll.
Thanks for a great reply. You really know your stuff.
It took me until I'm 50 to realize that the "MAN" was keeping me down?
Smart cars are their own brand I believe. You need to find a SMART car dealer (internet search). Good luck surviving a crash tho…
My next truck will be a Ford and so will my sons trucks.
I will not buy a Ford because of how they support radical homosexual agendas and socialist policy like their founder. They may not have taken bailout money but they are extremely liberal and support the Global Warming scam as well. These idiots will never get my money.
There is a principal involved, I like the car, but could never own one.
LOL oh my goodness no, I would never buy one, I just figured eventually the Secretary of Transportation would make them mandatory they are (trying to run) running our lives ya know. I can see, if we don't turn this around soon, fining us for driving anything other than a Smart car. I was thinking they were made by GM, so that would be a double win for them. Make us drive Smart cars made by GM. I shudder the thought
I like it! Takes redistribution of wealth to a whole new concept. I would NEVER pay for the college tuition for a child that was voting to take my country away from me. Let them pay their own way or become a serf to the government and take out a student loan (in THEIR name).
My Jeep has a sticker on it… "HydroCarbon Powered Eco Vehicle". Does that make me Green? I do get some weird looks while people try to figure that out.
Shortly after the bailout debacle, I e-mailed Ford and told them I would be buying a Ford pickup within the next 2 years and would never again buy a Chrysler or GM. I was pleased when Ford responded to my e-mail the following day. I also sent a message to GM stating my disappointment. Never heard a word back.
I don't think anyone is suggesting your simply buy a new Ford "just because". I think that they are saying that you should consider buying a Ford instead of GM or Chrysler IF you are in the market for another vehicle.
You're gonna hafta splain that to me please.
I bought a Chevrolet Camaro because it is a better sports car than the Ford Mustang. Supporting big government? Very likely, but also more American in spirit than blindly buying something because of its national origin. I'll buy Japanese before I buy Ford cars. Their cars are just better designed, more reliable, and more esthetically pleasing. The company producing the best product gets my business. IMHO THAT is the American way. If I was in the market for a truck, I WOULD buy an F-150. Build a better product, Ford, and you'll see my well-earned George Washington greenbacks heading your way.

HydroCarbon is oil… Oil powered Eco Vehicle… as opposed to hydrogen, bio fuel, electric, etc…
Oh that is awesome! Yeah I don't claim to be a rocket scientist, but now I have learned something and if I put on bumberstickers, I would use that one!!
Well it's true.. I have a lib acquaintance who married a guy who works for Ford and they are both heavily indoctrinated UAW nut-jobs today.. The reason Ford didn't take bailout dough is not because they are great patriots or anything. Nope.. The Ford Ranger, F-150 et. al have not had any substantial R&D in 20 years and so a 1990 Ranger is the exact same vehicle as one purchased in 2010. GM screwed up by buying SAAB and other ventures it couldn't afford and so took the poisoned Govt. money. It all came down to timing and not which company was more American or whatever, that's just silly.
I bought a Ford last year (Feb 2009) SPECIFICALLY because of the bail-outs. I've not owned a Ford since a crappy '83 powder blue Escort that I drove into the ground. I'm very happy with the 2007 Freestyle I now own and will probably stay with Ford hereafter. My wife is due a new car this year and we'll be sticking with the blue oval.
