It’s Your Principles, Stupid
by John LoudonThe polls have closed, the votes are counted, and Massachusetts voters have sent the “Scott heard ’round the World”. All day long, pundits have been giving their assessment regarding why Scott Brown would win. All day long, too many of these pundits have proven that they still have not learned to listen to the clear message being sent by the American people.

Like rats fleeing a sinking ship Democrat pundits have been blaming Coakley for running a failed campaign. While it is true that the path to victory checklist laid out by her strategists probably did not include insulting Catholics and Red Sox fans, to blame a Democrat for losing in the bluest blue state in this environment is a convenient oversimplification. Further, it is incredibly insulting for the political class to dismiss the voters as being that petty.
For their part, Republicans who argued that it is not about Coakley’s gaffs offered up disturbingly similar alternative explanations. Mitt Romney speaking on Fox news said it was:
Overwhelmingly an outpouring of support for Scott Brown and his vision”.
No, it is not about Scott Brown. Or his vision.
This election result is not about personality it is not even about policy. It is more.
It is true that the poll numbers began the dramatic swing the more the Democrats in Congress pushed the health care bill. Brown was down 9% before the Senate passed the bill. As the Democrats pushing the bill made shocking statements like “they need any bill’ or in the case of Obama advisor David Axelrod opponents of the bill are “insane,” Coakley numbers continued to shrink.
Health care reform policy was the backdrop. It would be fair to stop there and say the voters rejected the policy of health care reform. I believe it goes a step deeper.
If Massuchusetts voters looked beyond the personalities and were troubled by the policy of health care, did those blue staters who embraced universal health care in their state, suddenly reject the idea of universal health care done by their fellow Democrats in Congress?
I believe the voters rejected the operating principles of the Reid, Pelosi, Obama oligarchy. Just as Republican voters lost faith in their leaders for the bloated spending, Democrats and Independents have looked with horror at the principles dominating this Congress that said any health care bill is a good bill. They were shocked when taxing “Cadillac” plans suddenly did not include union Cadillac plans. Most of all they were dismayed that all of these discussions were occuring not in the transparent way, on C-SPAN that candidate Obama had promised, but behind closed doors in smoke filled rooms–probably not cigar smoke, but clove or “medical marijuana” smoke filled rooms. The voters found this disgusting.
So was this a victory for Republicans?
Before the GOP celebrates the personality of Brown, or the victory for moderates or begins believing the GOP is back, they need to consider that the same body politic that now distrusts the Democrats is the body politic that reviled the GOP just 14 months ago.
The Democrats have lost three major battles because the voters saw the incongruity between the stated policies and the actions. Similarly, they rejected Republicans in 2008 because the Party, my Party, dominated by moderates calling themselves “fiscal conservatives,” grew entitlement spending, war spending, and deficits in a way that contradicted their public pronouncements. In short, both parties suffer a huge credibility gap. The American public has not so much rejected personalities or even policies, they have rejected the lack of principles.
So now begins a new race. A race for credibility. The Party that hears the voters and regains the trust of the American people will be in control in 2011.
The first step to regaining trust begins with an apology. I have heard a number of hapless GOP incumbents make statements like “we probably spent a little too much”, or “we should have said ‘no’ a little more”, or “except for the war on terror, we only grew Federal spending by 5% on an annualized basis before factoring in inflation,” blah blah blah. Just once I want to hear a Republican leader say this: ”Yes, we spent like (pick your metaphore) a. drunken sailors, b. college girls with a new credit card, c. lotto winners on Rodeo drive, and you took the credit card away from us, you were right, and we are sorry.” The emphasis needs to be on a heart felt, full out mea culpa apology. Admit you did a terrible job carrying out the duties we elected you to do! Admit it, dammit! You overspent. You were wrong. You need to own up to it.
If the GOP will do that, and beg for another chance, we may be able to save this Country from the economic collapse driven by the leftists elected by the reaction to the wayward Republicans. They need to swear to cap the spending, cut failed programs and guarantee that they will shrink the federal government back to its Constitutional limits.
If they do that, we just might have a chance to leave this country just as our forefathers left it for us-better.

Wow. An ACORN-proof mandate, in Massachusetts, of all places.
Hopefully, a sign of things to come.
There were 60, now there are 59. More to come in 2010.
RINO's need to find a new line of work. Progressives need to be kicked out of the Demo Party if they ever want another win at the polls except for dog catcher. Progressives would get along well with the curs. It would be grat if they would all immigrate to a nice Socialist Nation in the EU. Might I suggest FRANCE???
Brown is a terrific candidate and a great spokesperson for the GOP. Yes, this had a lot to do with the failed left wing policies of Obama but here in the People's Republic, that's not enough. They'd elect Mao on policy. You need a real leader. Brown gives every indication he is just that. Karl Rove said watch this guy down the road. I think he's right.
Spoken like a true Tea Partier. That's the message we've been trying to get across from the start.
To quote Barrack Hussein Obama: " We are days away from fundamentally changing America as we know it…."
Seat Senator Brown. Let him stop thie insanity. He just gave a wake up call to every incumbent in Washngton. They will now realize what a tenous position they are ALL in. I said several months ago "Shove it down our throats in 2009, and we'll shove it up you azz in 2010."
They better pay attention now…………
It's only going to get better, but as LazyJack commented on another thread, we cannot spend to much time celebrating. We have got to stick to our guns and keep the pressure on the Left. We do that, the People will have the knowledge that we all need to shut down the lie that is the Lib-Prog agenda for a very long time, hopefully forever.
The Lib-Prog agenda is treasonous to our Constitution and its promoters should be regarded as traitors.
"The American public has not so much rejected personalities or even policies, they have rejected the lack of principles."
For what is worth, I totally concur. In Massachusetts the Independents got mad, the Republicans got energized and the Democrats got discouraged. Ripe for a great upset.
Scott Brown ran a campaign based on principle. The Tea Party movement is about principle. DC better listen.
Nail.
Head.
'Nuff said.
Considering the number of Massachusetts dems who voted in favor of the nation, and against their party, the number http://www.thoseshirts.com/images/99-500.gif may to be revised.
I just saw Rachael Madcow, Keith Overblow, Ed Schultz and Chris Mattress on MSLSD in a group hug, sobbing uncontrollably. Pretty pathetic, really.
Hear Hear!, A word of caution to all with a (R) behind their name…
YOU ARE NOT SAFE! We will come for you just as quickly, if not faster.
Remember Mass, For you are next!
KEEP ON TRUCK'N
" We are days away from fundamentally changing America as we know it…."
We can use this like " Remember the Alamo" battle dry and Fundamentally change America ( As we have come to know it) back to its roots, The US Constitution !!
Mathews, Maddow, and Olberman honestly believe that Coakley lost because of a poorly run campaign and because Congress didn't move FAST enough to pass healthcare and other socialist policies. I can't believe they are bold enough to actually voice that dribble in public let alone broadcast it to their viewers. Keep it up Libtards the longer you take to diagnose the real problem the worse it's going to get for you. I'll see you in the unemployment lines soon enough.
cry me a river
Well said Mr. LoudenT
Senator Elect Brown, God that is still so good to say, Many of us that post in here have supported you and your campaign, many of us with $, please do not let us down and get all PROGRESSIVE on us. Support the constitution as we have supported you !
The republicans need to make major primary challenges to the likes of the Grahams and McCains. If they are going to continue to play footsie with the Dems in DC, take them out in the primary. Then at least there will be a chance to get a real conservative elected.
Hey Noblama, how's it feel having your ambitious agenda of fundamentally transforming America shat upon by a guy driving a TRUCK.
He ran over Marcia Coakley in his "truck", and he's now going to run over, and then back-over your obamacare, with his "truck".
Does obamacare cover your injuries if your ran over by some redneck hick Senator from a blue-state driving a "truck"?
And Shepherds we shall be
For thee, my Lord, for thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand
Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti
Keep your head down, I've got a feeling they'll be having a circle-jerk firing squad. Just shooting aimlessly at each other in a big circle. A cyclone of doom and destruction.
I LOVE it.
Pretty soon they'll be eating their own young.
And Shepherds we shall be
For thee, my Lord, for thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand
Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti
I had to. It's how I'm feeling. Kieth Obamerman! GO F YOURSELF!
Why denigrate and punish little puppies? (And, Harry Truman was a dog catcher).
It's kinda like "one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." Well, at least it's a step forward. And, it was one of the best 100 bucks I ever spent.
Tonight Rachel Maddow and other PMSNBC pundits concluded that the Democrats now have to pass Obamacare more than ever, even if it means reconciliation (51 Senate votes) or the House voting to accept the current Senate Bill 'as is', preventing another Senate vote. They said that 'walking away' would be worse than getting this through, whatever means possible. Their arrogance and stupidity know no bounds!!! Freedom loving Americans prefer no bill to anything crafted behind closed doors, which needs bribery and exemption to garner support. I am convinced that liberalism / progressivism is a mental illness!
Of sourse, the Libturds have already announced that they may employ the nuclear option to force their socialized medicine down our throat. If they follow through with their threat, maybe it's time to organize numerous Tea Parties throughout the country before they vote.
I may be over-confident with this assessment, but believe that perhaps a handful of the 59 votes will run for the hills after this election, but that will still provide enough to gain a simple majority. A few large tea parties may influence a few more. Rise up and castrate these libturds.
Excellent article and analysis Mr. Loudon. I concur with you 100%. I have been advocating the voting out of all incumbents for years now. The days of old RINOS and DINOS running rough shod over "we the people" must end.
Hey Harry, Nancy et al, you don't want Term Limits………………………well then, "we the people" will limit your terms.
This article is spot on. We are tired of corruption, out of control spending, back door deals, and ignoring the will of the people. It doesn't matter if it's a Democrat or a Republican–THEY SHOULD LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE!! Something is terribly wrong when the government OF the people becomes the government VS the people, forcing unpopular healthcare, bail-outs, stimulus, etc., down the throats of the citizenry while we are screaming "NO!". Thank you Massachusetts–turns out it was you that the town halls and tea parties were waiting for! It takes all of us to preserve our democratic republic–the summer gatherings staved off the healthcare albatross. Now it's up to Scott Brown to continue to block this until the citizens can effect more change in the elections to come. As an Illinois citizen, I've attended tea parties, I sent money to Scott Brown, and I will continue to support those in our nation who understand that they are elected to serve the people within the limits of the Constitution. We will take back our country one state at a time. Massachusetts–Thank you!! Please return the favor and help Illinois in our upcoming Senate election, and in the election after that to dump Durbin. Wow–true grassroots power!
OY Merry, we need to start working hard against Dick D!
Yup…
I saw a video of reporters talking to Scott B. in the afternoon, before any results were out. He was sitting in his truck, talking to them. One of them laughlingly said: "Hey what's that on the floor? That looks like fast food wrappers!"
The immediate answer of the soon-to-be-newly-elected senator: "It's a GUY truck."
Go, Bubba, Go.
Thank God! Thank you, people of Massachusetts, and especially, Scott Brown! I'm going to sleep well tonight!
OK MerryJ1,
What about Bovine Gas collector? According to some so-called scientists the Fly-over States may have a few job openings for them!
I like it… DUMP DURBIN
Chatham, IL
The results are in — and all "conservative Christians" — "Evangelicals and Catholics together" — sang "Praise the Lord."
He has given us another pro-war, pro-abortion, Republican magistrate.
Isn't that exciting?
See Psalm 2 and rejoice!
Or tremble if your wise.
What Andrew said.
I can't stand Graham, what a phony! McCain has my respect as a fellow Naval officer, but that is where it ends!!!
He is not capable of speaking clearly against the outrageous behavior of the politicians as Senator Brown did tonight.
It would make my day to see exactly that!!!
There are a couple of congressman, that guy from Arizona who never ask for earmarks for his district, and the one from Utah who was elected last year that sleeps in his office. Pretty sad I can only come up with two examples…
I want to give a big "shout out" to Ryan Dixon and his friends who drove from California to Mass in order to support Senator Brown.
I don't know him but wanted to say I really admire what they did and hope to connect with that group of Patriots to see if we can work some magic out here in California!
I am going to sleep well tonight. This was a great win, but there is much work to be done prior to November.
Am watching Bloomberg news in London. They are hammering Obama!
I share the same sentiment as many of you on here. Republicans voting for anything but the direct opinion of the people they serve is no better than a Democrat doing the same. Let's get this party mentality, and addiction to special interest out of Washington.
The first time I saw Brown he reminded me of Jack Kennedy. He thinks fast on his feet, he seems to have a natural ability to reach out to the common man and he isn't afraid to do the leg work to get a job done. Literally.
I look for Brown to run for President one day. Maybe against Obama in 2012?
Wouldn't it be ironic to see that the seat that was sold out to get Kennedy in, then sold out when he died would bring down the one thing he wanted the most, health care? Add insult to that is that the elitist Obama rallied against Brown and maybe he could be running against the very person he put down for "driving a truck" in 2012.
I hope he keeps his word and is the person, because he just may be the person we have been looking for to take over the presidency in 3 years.
Stranger things have happened.
Like a democrat losing a senate seat held for half a century by one man in a very democratic state.
Just once I want to hear a Republican leader say this: ”Yes, we spent like (pick your metaphore) a. drunken sailors, b. college girls with a new credit card, c. lotto winners on Rodeo drive
We had a candidate like that in CA District 10 in our special election. His name was David Harmer. I wish the election had been held a little later, maybe he would have won. He's running again, in District 11 this time, a more conservative district. I hope he wins. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with John Garamendi as my "representative." But I'll be working for Harmer in the upcoming election. I hope some of you can see fit to send him a few bucks!
"Shove it down our throats in 2009, and we'll shove it up your azz in 2010."
can i get that on a t-shirt?
where's Julie London when you need her?
DUMP DURBIN–long overdue–glad you like it–You betcha!
Mt. Sterling, IL
Conservatism need never compromise. All you politicians had better grow a backbone. We haven't got time for political games.
Hey Repubs and Dems, I have an Idea. Instead of your own ideology how about following the Constitution in its original intent? You know, by reading the works, and papers of our founders; the minutes of the States Constituional Conventions, and the other works which were relied upon in part to bring this America into being. For me that is the true ideology, that is the true test. Not only by what you say you are going to do but by what in our name you actually do! This I believe is the spirit of not only the Tea Parties, but what transpired in Massa chussetts. LIBERTY struck a small blow for its life. We must now give it aid and comfort!
Great isn't it? In the State where the first shots were heard in 1776, we now have put a shot across the bow of ALL politicians from the same State!!! Way to go, BayStaters! You've done us proud. Now the elitists in BOTH parties had better get the message. This is a basically-conservative nation and we're sick and tired of being ruled by those of you who think you know better than any of us simply because you graduated from some Ivy League school. All of you work for US…not the other way around.
Succinctly said and true. When you think of what a true conservative President and a true conservative Republican Congress **could have done*** makes one want to turn to drink. But the body politic saw it as business as usual. Which it was.
But finally, some "hope and change" I can believe in …
Are you against Hope and Change?
Man that guy is disgusting. Talk about a professional politician.
As Ronald Regan said,
We don't need (pink) pastels we need bold (Scarlet) colors..
"I want to hear a Republican leader say this: ”Yes, we spent like (pick your metaphore) a. drunken sailors, b. college girls with a new credit card, c. lotto winners on Rodeo drive, and you took the credit card away from us, you were right, and we are sorry.”
This leader should also add that I / We understand that we broke the trust and confidence you placed in us. Give us an opportunity to right this wrong and regain the trust and confidence of the American People.
They should then work on the following:
Security of this country
The economy
Ensure that any law, regulation, or policy passed that affect the Citizens of the US also applies to them, and re-work the latter presently in effect so that they will NOW apply to them.
Even if this does not pass, any elected official who campaigns of votes against it will find him in an untenable position an frog marched out of office. After all, can you see them trying to explain why any law that affects citizens should not affect them.
Scott Browns convincing and nationally supported win has to be a real shock to the hacks in DC. Watch what will happen next. It's called 'morphing'. It will be botox by the barrel, nips and tucks, and a hairdressers bonanza for the new faces of government. I can hear the accompanying dialog. "Oh no. You're wrong. That wasn't me. You must be thinking of someone else. Pay no attention to that. This is the real me." This 'transformation' should be a real hoot.
Scotty Boy would have defeated Obama in 2008,but that would have violented Bush's course without any glory
I agree again, Cowboy! That includes BOTH parties!! If they want to keep their elected seat…they better start listening to the people that put them there!!!
I don't think they can get away with pushing through that massive corrupt bill, that the majority of Americans don't want! They found out tonight, that the people voted AGAINST Obamas' policies, more than voting FOR a republican!
If they try that…it WILL be the death of the liberal party!!
And Obama making fun of him driving a truck, pissed off a LOT of Americans!! Thank God for the ignorance of Obamas mouth!!
Europe is not so enamored with Obama now…except maybe Germany, who has a musical out about him! Yuk!
THANK YOU Massachusetts!!! Finally a VOTE FOR policies and NOT party!!!
The most important thing to remember is that WE, the conservatives do NOT forget this. We need to not be complacent.
Let them stay on life support for a while. I get a "tingle" when I hear them squirming.
Thank you. See you in Dallas?
Wow, no snippey remarks by any liberals about this article? I should know the word "principles" scares the hell out of them.
…well said, well done.
CM Sackett
It was great!! Old Obie was trying like crazy to put some sort of spin on it and was stuttering the whole time!! Matthews had this look on his face of total dismay and Maddow was still pushing the Leftists agenda saying the DemoRats should push the healthcare bill through with reconciliation!! I dare them to try it!! Over 2 million voters were out in Mass to tell the DemoRats NO, what do you think we will do if you keep pushing this agenda down our throats? Get a clue already!!
"Remember Massachusetts" would make a good rallying cry! (Did I spell it right? I'm from da land of da Chicago Bears)
Principles something devoutly to be wished on Both sides of the aisle.
agree……..have you seen the movie with Jimmy Stewart — "Mr. Smith goes to Washington"??????
Wellllllll………now……..MR. Brown goes to Washington. I think there are a lot of similarities that voters are looking for in an honest, straight talking, pick-up driving, hard working, common sense man………Hooooooorahhhhhh.
Bravo! Well said. Dems and RINOs, look out! If you can't read the tea leaves, you don't deserve to be there.
Oh, wait…you don't deserve to be there, anyway.
"REMEMBER MASSACHUSETTS"…… Brillant!!! I vote for that to be our anthem! (From another Chicago Bears fan!!!)
It's the arrogance – the elitist attitude – the bending the rules every which way to get their way, like this: http://biggovernment.com/2010/01/17/is-new-jersey...
We've shown that when we really rally together around good candidates, we can beat the machine. We are the new machine! Let's keep those engines running and wheels turning so we can steer this country back in the direction it was designed to go.
Bill_Brandt
No need to start a new party or any new organization. We have just had a clear demonstration of what 'the people' can do on their own. It does require a higher level of involvement then just being part of a group, but it surly worked.
Little donations from everyday people and volunteering for something you believe in, being awake and aware, these are the things that helped Scott win.
I want to thank Andrew, Drudge and the many nameless people who have brought to our attention the misrepresentations of the main (?) stream media. This vote was also a condemnation of their shoddy and partisan reporting.
Low expectations are not hard to meet–time to raise the bar.
Once again, the cluless haven't got a clue. MSNBC Shultz, advocated voter fraud….last time I checked that is a felony. The tingley feeling that Matthews is experiencing in his leg can be related to leaning to the left for so long that his leg went to sleep. The group hug thing? Well it is common umoung sufferers of Stockholm syndrom when the finally realise that their captors are really evil people intent on their demise. The good people of MA have sent a cataclismic shock wave across America….how the loons on the left, and the RINOs react will be telling. Scott Brown has shown that when one runs on priciple above party and puts the people and the country first the people will come to their support.
Brown needs to keep his eye on the ball. Don't fall into the trap of corruption that so many others in Washington have. People will be watching his actions closely on both sides.
Hopefully the rest of the GOP will see that progressive-lite won't cut it either.
Thank you God!!! and Mass! This victory will send chills down every representatives spine (R, D and I). It speaks volumes and sends a clear message to Obonehead that we are tired of an adminstration that tries to force feed us socialized health care when it is clear that the majority of Americans don't want this!
Mr. Brown may stop the "thief in the night" mentality that the Obamatons have been using. Our leaders in D.C. seem to assume that if they pass it we (the people) will get used to it. If Brown can end the Kennedy dynasty (THANK GOD) then all the Dem.s and Progressives (DEM. & REP.) are on notice. I want all the Peoples business done (Except security issues) in the full light of day (CSPAN would be fine).
This is "HOPE AND CHANGE I CAN BELIEVE IN"
Thank you America for your support and donations, Thank you Ma. for being bold and doing the right thing.Thank you Scott Brown for your hard work against the machine. We are American's , we are because of our fore fathers and the great constitution and bill of rights they gave us and the great Americans that have shead their blood for what America stands for. Obama did bring Hope and Change. We now see what we don't want . Smaller Government and a free people. Thank You God most of all for answering the many prayers and putting road blocks in the face of those that would sale out our God given Freedoms.
John Loudon–a well thought out and written article.
Principles and truth, Integrity over showmanship, this is what we need. True Statesmen, who fit the old fashioned definition ( : one who exercises political leadership wisely and without narrow partisanship) are the ones who should be in office.
I would rather be governed by ugly, old, slow spoken honest and forthright, experienced in life individuals, then pretty, flashy, hope filled inexperienced dreamers, in a race to implement an untested and unproven theory. Substance over show.
When your house is on fire- speed is important to getting out. When you are building a house- experience counts.
Visionaries and youthful dreamers do pay an important part and should not be maligned, but it is only a part of the whole and should be tempered by wisdom and experience.
We all have been taught an important lesson this past year, some of us have learned.
The most important lesson, I personally have taken from the circus in DC, is get involved and get informed.
We can not trust our very lives to those with no stake in the outcome.
The TEA party Patriot's have taught us all the true meaning of 'skin in the game'.
"Congress should make NO Law that exempts them from participation!"
It's Obama's anniversary and someone blew his candles out…
Principles, What a concept !!! Refreshing huh. Good Gut feeling about Scott. Maybe our Ronald Reagan in the making. Principles lacking in government too long on both sides. CAN YOU HEAR US NOW ?????
Ha Ha ! the only thing funnier than the arrogance of the progressives was watching madcow and olberman squirm with the reality of this election – trying to denounce the real reasons this occured – and the look on thier faces was pathetic – they KNEW they were squirming and so did everyone else. I look forward to the the voracious spin they will try to impune on the air for weeks and months to come – because in the end – it is precisely this spin that will assist in getting this country back to where it needs to be.
Have a wonderful day America !
Unfortunatley we can vote out the trash.
But what about the beurocracy put in place by this bunch.
The real control belongs to dept.heads in the buerocracy , created by the socialistic misfits elected by a dumbed down younger generation (very liberal education).
We didn't listen to Joe McCarthy and stay vigilant. Shame on us
Norman M Thomas( 1884-1968); 6 time Presidential candidate on the Socialist Party ticket.
Quote: "The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of liberalism they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened."
Where's all the talk about voter fraud? I though ACORN was going to steal it for the Democrat…
Funny how the elections get fair when the Republican wins.
" I am convinced that liberalism / progressivism is a mental illness! "
symptom: doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result
You do know he is pro choice and favors civil unions for ga -ys…
DC baby
The 2010 race in going to be about the economy and unemployment. If we are still hemorrhaging jobs next fall the Democrats will lose control of the House. If unemployment is in single digits and jobs are being created then they will still probably lose some seats but keep control.
The senate health care reform bill cannot be allowed to pass. It should be immediately carved up and presented piecemeal for congressional votes. Let's get everyone on the record.
" Pretty soon they'll be eating their own young. "
Only if they're not independently viable.
David Guergen won this race for us. Wonder how he feels since he is a liberal and was all for the liberal and constantly slammed Brown. When he hosted the debate, he threw softballs to Coakley and hardballs to Brown. When he asked Brown if he was going to be responsible for taking Kennedy's seat, and Brown replied, THE SEAT IS NOT KENNEDY'S SEAT, IT IS NOT THE DEMOCRATS SEAT, IT IS THE PEOPLES' SEAT," THE RACE WAS WON THEN! GUERGEN LOOKED AS IF SOMEONE SLAPPED HIM IN THE FACE! Then Coakley had her thugs out in force! I love what happened last night. Maybe now the people will be represented! THANK YOU, LORD!
A..F’n..men!! I think this is the true lesson of not just this election, but the 2006 and 2008 elections as well. We’ve simply been voting against the mismanagement of whose in office, not endorsing their replacements, just hoping they’ll do better. I believe I am in the majority when I say I see no real difference between the parties. They each take care of different businesses, are only concerned with power and politics as a career. Our politicians all seemed to have lost the basic understanding that: They are our employees. Our servants. Not our masters. We are citizens not subjects.
We do not elect parties. We don’t vote for clubs. We vote for individuals to do a job for us. Unfortunately, they’ve organized themselves to make service into career.
100% AGREE
To many people standing around with cameras willing to stand up and point.
When the light goes on cockroaches scatter.
And you know damm right well that acorn's involvement, if any, will not be known until the election is examined so stop misleading the conversation.
But you did forget a few entities union thugs and black panthers were not spotted or at least not reported at polling places intimidating people(lights are on).
And these principles are not going away
Since Obama wants to change The United States of America into the Socialists Union of America, how do you convince the electorate go along with his agenda.
It is one thing to have a debate between Republican and Democrat lawmakers on a particular issue within a common political ideology and let the votes determine the outcome. It is a completely different animal when you ask the American people to change from their accepted ideology to a totally foreign one.
It is for this reason that a Democrat lost in Massachusetts yesterday and it is for this reason November 2010 will be a blood bath for the Democrats.
The cold water shower truth that Democrats have to come to grips with is that Obama is not capable of deserting his ideology for the good of incumbent Democrat senators and representatives. The fact is he could not care less about them. He is, after all an expert at throwing people under the bus.
***WATCH! DON'T GIVE UP!!! THE "PROGRESSIVES" MUST BE STOPPED! THEY HAVE THE SAME AGENDA HAS ISLAM, DESTROY OUR ECONOMY!!!
***CAUTION: The BUSH FATHER/SON TEAM (3rd DEGREE MASONS) WERE PROGRESSIVES TOO! IT'S THE CANDIDATE, NOT NECESSARILY THE PARTY!!! NOTE: CARTER HAD TO BECOME a "MASON" TO BECOME PRESIDENT!!! MASONS = PROGRESSIVE=MARXISM!!!
This is BS. He relied on the Tea Party to get elected, both with resources and money.
Go away, troll.
"Just once I want to hear a Republican leader say this: ”Yes, we spent like (pick your metaphore) a. drunken sailors, b. college girls with a new credit card, c. lotto winners on Rodeo drive, and you took the credit card away from us, you were right, and we are sorry.”
Well, you have to believe it first before you make such an apology. Brown appears to actually believe in the GOP platform. His authenticity won the race, IMO. We'll see if the radar was fully functional in the next few weeks.
I disagree. I'm sick of the apologizing and finger-pointing (it's not fair to blame Republican leadership without blaming voters for putting them there, that's finger-pointing, too). Stop looking backwards and move forward. Stop blaming "institutions" and "leadership" and become the leadership. There's no point in looking back and blaming someone else, because if nothing changes, we have no one to blame but ourselves.
What Brown gives every indication of being is not a true leader, but rather that smooth kind of blow-dried prevaricator guys like Karl Rove have been giving us for nigh on two decades now. When Rove says to keep an eye on this guy, he only means that Brown is electable–the sole Rovian measure of a great statesman.
In point of fact, Scott Brown could be the poster boy for the 2008 Republican Party–the party that was soundly rejected at the polls two years ago. The only reason he won (in my opinion) is that Massachusetts voters feared and hated him less than they did the alternative. Nevertheless, even if he's just the sort of guy that Massachusetts voters actually want, the fact remains that he's out of step politically with most of the rest of the country.
Matthews looked like he was tanked! Maddow's bottom lip was so low, it would have set off a trip wire! Obie looked like he just watched his dog get ran over by on-coming traffic! I watched more MSNBC last night than I have in my entire life!!
The only apology that is in order here, with respect to spending by the previous administration (assuming that is what you are referring to), is that Bush should apologize for trying to act like a Democrat in the last 2 years of his administration.
Well spoken! The look on Mr. Gergen's face is truly a Kodak moment!

You are spot on! Republicans and Dem's alike we are sick of living by the law while you flaunt it in our faces. We want conservatives not Republican's and ex[pect you to be honest. It'ds not so hard, just try it, it works.
Unless there's a person of color on the ticket, they don't bother coming out. It's all about race to them.
Wow! That is a great peice of writting and really believe that speaks to what the people of this nation have been trying to say for a very long time. I hope that the Republicans realize that Mass. did not give them a mandate to continue their ways of the past. Michael Steele has been saying this recently only to be chastized by his own party members. They had better wake up or they will find their heads spinning when the people send them packing as well.
Republicans need to pledge not to do, but to undo.
"No, it is not about Scott Brown. Or his vision."
Vision was probably a metaphor for 'his policy ideas'.
From the polls I've seen, most republicans favor civil unions. Did you know that?
Brown is also against third trimester abortion. Unlike Naral, planed parenthood, and most Democratic Party activists.
…and the sudden urge to watch Boondock Saints washes over me. damn subliminal messages.
"remember Mass"…I like it, or "remember the Mass EFFECT"…Mass Impact….heck, I can do this all day, aside from an odd urge to watch an old movie.
Good article. And it is important that Tea Partiers, Conservatives, Republicans, Independents, Federalists, and whoever else is happy with the Scott Brown win to not become wrongly confident or condescending. Let us be even headed, and positive, not blind to valid claims of our opposition (as they do us) but thinking things through.
MASSACHUSETTS HAS DONE IT AGAIN
If you remember your American history, it was at LEXINGTON, MA on April 19, 1775 that the "shot heard round the world" was fired. No one knows exactly who fired the first shot. However, it is generally agreed that this was effectively the beginning of the American Revolution which was eventually won, but proved to be a long and difficult struggle.
I believe that Scott Brown's victory marks the beginning of the end of "Obama-lot". That's why I say, MASSACHUSETTS HAS DONE IT AGAIN.
On Nov. 4, 2008, I made the statement that "I feel like I'm living in Germany and the year is 1933".
Today I feel like I'm living in Massachusetts and the year is 1775.
Like the American Revolution, there will be many more difficult struggles. However, today we can celebrate a victory for this great country and everything good that it stands for. Let us give thanks to God for the work of our founding fathers and also those that continue to defend this country against all enemies, both foreign and domestic.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
Brown was better able to articulate what is wrong in Washington and what needs to be done that most anyone lately. He's not yet been corrupted by the fake hair and botox crowd that took over the GOP and ran it into the ground. Give him a chance. I know him and when he says he's independent, he means it. He'll piss you off sometimes but on balance its because he's genuine.
Brown began distancing himself from the tea party the moment he got the nomination. I wouldn't count on a lot of conservative support from a guy representing Massachusetts. He'll be a blocking vote for cloture when called upon, but he will not be able to support a tea party agenda.
I think the Europeans caught on that he could care less about them,
and all he's interested in is dictators and 3rd world countries..
Remember the Italy Earthquake in July of 2009?…He sent them
50,000 dollars…..Can you imagine, just 50,000, not even a Million.
Seems like this tells a little story…Granted there were less people
in jeopardy then in Haiti, but nonetheless, the little town in Italy was
destroyed too…One or Two Millions seems like it would have been
a little better offering…..
Of course you're correct….
Just um…. somebody sock Brown in the head the next time he mentions his daughters being available?
Screw the Republicans. After 40 years supporting them they have abandoned folks like me. While RINOS like Collins, Grahm, McCain, Snow and Voinovich are still in the party, I'll stay independent. Go Tea Party.
C-PAC?
Thank you for your comments and your passion.
Thank you! And please, call me John.
Thank you IllinoisTP. My family is from the Land of Lincoln originally. Keep fighting to take it back.
Thank you gingersnapper. Here's to ugly old honest people serving in office.
Ruth, you are so right. Just try honesty. Politicians suffer from a need to be loved by all. Too many fall into the trap of nuancing their positions to everyone. People see through that. I just had lunch with a candidate last week. He actually said (emphasis added)"I INTEND to be with you guys on that. They gave him an award for being with them 100% of the time. This was a slam dunk. But he is such a beltway guy that hedge words just come naturally.
Thank you Robert! I agree
The poison that the Obama administration and Congress were pouring down the throats of the American People is being neutralized.
Now it's up to the Patriots in America to make sure it stays that way.
So you're an insider are you?! Or a psychic…
Maybe just an angry guy, hardly anything you say is positive ~
Thanks John for the response. Too bad there aren't more folks like you in Missouri, maybe the Gladneys might get a little justice.
I have to reply to myself .
I reread what I said and thought, well heil, we do have some ugly and old people in leadership I am not too happy with.
I still stand by the honest, forthright and life expereienced. There is no age or look that will guarantee the person inside is trustworthy. Maybe all canadates should run for office with paper bags on their heads, then we could decide by their character, background and statements who to vote for.
Oh, and the company they keep!
There is something we could do to help weed out the corrupt. Let us stop highly rewarding those who supposedly 'serve' us. Fewer perks and abideing by the same laws they pass would be a start.
How about fewer 747s?
John Loudon
Yes, that too.
