The point was made over 6 years ago by Bernard Goldberg in Bias that Big Media in fact does see itself as middle-of-the-road, for the precise reason that all these people live in the very definition of an echo chamber.

The recent explosion of Tea Party Conservatism is a reaction both to Big Media's self-regard and to the same phenomenon among Eastern prep-school Republicans - both of whom send their children to the same schools. Normal people are finally getting annoyed enough to make their presence felt, and good for them. Is this a great country, or what?

I don't go so far as to call them "dishonest". That would require their KNOWING their reports were untrue.

Sadly, they really do believe the crap they dish out. It boils down to the preconceived notions they have even before they approach a new story.

Example: Reid/Pelosi declare their health care bills will insure millions of uninured, reduce the deficit, punish the insurance companies, and so on. A liberal reporter hears that and says "Right on!". He then goes on camera and repeats this drivel.

A conservative, on the other hand, comes to the table with a different outlook. First and foremost, conservatives have a health skepticism of government's ability to "solve" problems. In fact, we go further and question the very motives of the do-gooders. Are they really trying to solve the problem? Or are they advancing a bill that will simply grow their constituencies (gov't bureaucracies, unions, community organizers)?

It's the lack of skepticism that undermines the reporting in the MSM. They rarely challenge the premise if government good intentions. And when did you ever hear one of them look back and question, for instance, why we've spent so much money and employed so many people in the Energy Dept for 35 years....with a mission of "reducing America's reliance on foreign oil". Missions, schmission. It's become nothing more than a permanent employment program with no mission, no accomplishments.
