How the MSM Might Survive: Come Out of the Ideological Closet
by John NolteWhenever reading Politico, everything should be washed through this filter. You must always keep in the front of your mind that this supposed “news” organization took the time to dig up and publicize dirt on a private citizen whose only sin was asking a perfectly reasonable question of a public figure. Politico’s warning to the everyday American was clear: get in the way of our guy and we will summon all our resources to publicly humiliate you. This all goes to prove that Politico is nothing more than a digital version of the Dinosaur Media — and just as clueless and dishonest as their unholy brethren, especially when it comes to explaining why their counterparts are drowning in the tar pits of obsolescence.

To hear Politico tell it, CNN’s stuck in humiliating fourth place behind FOX, MSNBC and their own Headline News because they’ve made the mistake of not appealing to the great unwashed who prefer partisan bickering and echo chambers:
With the proliferation of media across platforms these days, there’s less shared knowledge among people, who are increasingly heading to niche outlets for information. At the same time, there’s a large appetite for the new media world where the MSM gatekeepers no longer hold as much clout, and “he said, she said” journalism gives way to strong point of view. …
There’s no doubt that the over-the-top, and politically partisan, hosts are having more success attracting viewers on nights when there’s no major news event.
And what better place for Politico to get an opinion on such a matter than The Nation aka: “The flagship of the left“:
“The whole notion of citizenship has been declining for decades now.”
In other words, CNN is dying because of their oh-so noble and self-sacrificial decision to remain unbiased and objective. We know CNN agrees with this sanctimonious rationalization because they’re quoted saying so in the article:
CNN President Jon Klein says he knows why those approaches work, and he’s not going to go there. “It’s the oldest trick in the book to trot out over-the-top hosts and put them on a cable-news show[.]” …
Klein told staffers on Tuesday, according to TVNewser, that CNN “refuse[s] to do the things that might get us a quick number or cater to the extremes that would alienate our core viewers.”
Maybe CNN’s problem is that their president doesn’t watch his own network. After all, what self-respecting individual not wanting to smell the hot breath of someone laughing in his face could be aware of Rick Sanchez and say such things?
But online or not, this is what the dying Dinosaur Media so desperately wants to believe – or at least wants history to believe – that their slow, painful demise was the result of journalistic integrity. “We would rather be extinct than get in the gutter with low-brow partisan journalists who appeal to the lowest common denominator!”
Well, I’m going to go ahead and appeal to the lowest common denominator by stating, what a load of crap.
CNN, and much (though never enough) of the Dinosaur Media, are dying because everything they do and everything they stand for is predicated on a lie. They are liars of the highest order, have been for decades, and now that alternatives (who are not liars of the highest order) are available … we turn to them.
MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow have too many flaws to even begin to list here, but both are open and honest about their partisan agendas, and the same is true for the whole of MSNBC. The cable net may have never proclaimed, “We’re in the tank for all things liberal!” but they’re so shamelessly open about it there’s no need. Sure, MSNBC tells and spreads lies, but their existence is not based on a lie any more than the DNC.
On the other hand, CNN’s very foundation is built on a lie; the lie that they’re objective … and people, left and right, are turning away from them and others like them because they’ve had enough. No one likes smug, sanctimonious, phony posturing – and from the dim-bulb Wolf Blitzer to the Cover Boy Anderson Cooper to the Shark-Eyed Campbell Brown to OlberGeraldo Rick Sanchez – CNN is up to their 4th place necks in smug, sanctimonious, phony posturing.
What Politico and their delicate compatriots at The Nation describe as “catering to extremes” and “he said, she said” journalism, the rest of us call intellectual honesty. And no matter how sober and thoughtful, no matter how hushed the tone or furrowed the brow, CNN is a network stacked mostly with hardcore Leftists pretending not to be. Given the choice between CNN’s dishonest con job and MSNBC’s shameless hack job, I, and many others, choose a shamelessly honest hack job.
Fox News beats everyone and has the most ideologically diverse audience of them all because their straight news is straight, their opinion news is presented as such and even Obama’s biggest fans have come to learn that if they don’t tune in they’ll miss important stories like, say, that whole ACORN thing.
Of course, the Politico article won’t even consider that argument because Politico has the same con job going as CNN, and isn’t about to cry foul on their entire way of doing business.
You want to survive, Dinosaurs? Give up the asinine charade.
CNN, Washington Post, New York Times, Politico, ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, NPR… do your ratings, shareholders and consciences a favor and join the Daily Kos, Breitbart’s Bigs, The Huffington Post, National Review, Rush Limbaugh, Keith Olbermann, Glenn Beck and Rachel Maddow in coming out of the ideological closet.
You’re no longer fooling anyone, and as you swirl the drain we chuckle at your charade like a parent dealing with a dumb little kid who insists on pretending they’re invisible.

Big Gov, I gotta hand it to y'all.
I love a sense of humor. The more twisted and sadistic, the better!
Love that headline: "Come out of the Ideological Closet", followed by a photo of Metro-sexual Anderson Cooper.
Now that's a keeper!
Something that'll stick in everyones mind…………
CNN Sucks anyways.
CNN and the like are trying to paint Fox as to the right and MSNBC to the left so they can paint themselves as the middle. What they are failing to realize, while living in their denial, is exactly what this piece points out. People aren't buying into the paintwork as they once did. This article states so well what so many of us are thinking and I thank it's author for writing down the straight up truth.
I will never understand the MSM's blatant disregard for reality and the substitution of their own warped version. Too straight with the news? Even my lefty friends to to Fox to get teh news, and then flip over to (take your pick) news to get partisan op-ed pieces.
"No one likes smug, sanctimonious, phony posturing – and from the dim-bulb Wolf Blitzer to the Cover Boy Anderson Cooper to the Shark-Eyed Campbell Brown to OlberGeraldo Rick Sanchez – CNN is up to their 4th place necks in smug, sanctimonious, phony posturing."
Ouch!
I was going to say " Homogeneous Homosexual Hobbits", but thought it might be a tad too controversial……..
Obama wants to negotiate and bribe 'moderate taliban'. This is the panultimate oxymoron. That would be like calling code pinkos "beauty queens". I want to state here also that I support abortions for dems. In fact they should be mandatory for all libs.
The one thing that is hurting the CNNMSNBCBSABCNBC's out there is that they keep just reporting the BoBo line that the economy is back on the rise and everything is getting better, but yet they see what's happening in their REAL life and it doesn't mesh up. They or someone (or more than one) has lost their job, no raises, bills keep going higher – this doesn't mesh with what's on the TV. So what are they to believe, some slick guy who can talk well, or their real life?
So they pick up the remote (and/or go online) and click up or down. They stop when they find someone reporting accurately what's happening in their real life.
Isn't this the network that let Glenn Beck get away, that didn't take in John Stossel and Don Imus? Is this the network where Wolf Blitzer embarrassed himself on Jeopardy (not to mention daily news)?
CNN is the road kill of the MSM, run over by New Media like Fox.
Just laughable. The libs must have a brain capacity the size of Janet Reno's adam's apple. They really can't figure out that the vote for Obama was a kick in the butt for Conservatives & the Republican party to get their act together. Many don't like Obamenomics & since CNN loves Obama their poll ratings suck. They ignore or even lie about stories. Their politics are not good & either is the reporting that goes along with it. Don't blame us CNN for your downfall, we are more educated than ever on the topics of the Nation & we see through your political agenda B.S.. Don't tread on me & don't be afraid to look in the mirror to see who you really are.
On the whole, I agree. I do think it would be interesting, however, to see what an old-fashioned journalistic enterprise could do. If the New York Times, for example, after acknowledging that it missed legitimate stories on ACORN and Van Jones, decided to really dig in to the NEA calls. Or dismantled White House rhetoric on the health insurance industry. The lose because their analysis is so blatantly partisan. Is intellectual honesty that difficult?
When you anoint yourself as "the mainstream", it doesn't actually put you into the middle of the real current of American political discourse and opinion. CNN has been so far out of that flow for so long that they've turned into a dry gulch miles from the river.
If they didn't have the monopoly on Airport waiting room screens, NOBODY would watch them.

Reporting the BoBo line?
I think they are snorting it, or at least toking on his hookah………
doesn't help them any to demean an reticule there own viewers either.
Prime example: some talking head referred to Scozzafava as a moderate Republican! The MSM think they can make something true just by saying it. It will be so joyous to see them lose more and more followers to the Breitbarts of the world!
I believe this "Come out of the Ideological Closet", followed by a photo of Metro-sexual Anderson Cooper." Would make a great CHRISTmas card. For most of my relatives that halped vote in the chosen one.
It is indeed a glorious day!
Morning in America, and through the fog, you can almost see Ronald Reagans Shining City on the Hill……..
Thanks, Cowboy, I needed a good laugh! As we all do after reading bad news every day! Thank goodness for the good guys on the net, such as this site.

CHRISTmas has been officially cancelled, due to Emperical Edict of the Great Pompous Pontificator, the Munificent, the Merciful, Borat Hussein Zulu Obongo.
You can only celebrate Quanza, or Festivus.
Take your pick, and you only get fifteen minutes to do it.
I chose Festivus, it has the pole…………
hmmm… ideology versus good business. And which way will they go?
If they can't have both- and it's becoming increasingly obvious they can't- then, like 'Pinch' (where do they get these nicknames?) Sulzberger thy have to cry 'government grant' because the Grey Lady is going broke. It just cannot let go of it's poor business decisions- namely nobody buys the fishwrap anymore.
Something to do with 'editorial content'.
We shall see. But don't be surprised if a media 'bailout' package becomes a crushing necessity. For The Powers That Be must control the dialectic.
Even if NO ONE is buying it…
I take festivus too…since we can not celebrate Hanukkah,,,of course that was the given.
Cowboy Logic for President!!!
Thanks for the encouragement bro.
They must control the Decreasingly Diaphanous Dialectic in order to advance their GIF (Great Intellectual Fraud). It has been the way of the MSM since the last Great American Shill, the Most Trusted Man in America, the Dean of Drama, the Venereal, the Venerable, the Vulnerable Walter Cronkite last say his his broad seat in the polished anchor chair…
Democratic pollster Doug Schoen describes his experience [on FOX] very positively:
"They are the most professional network of any I have dealt with," he said. "If you are a Democrat who wants to deliver mindless talking points on Fox, it's probably best to go to MSBNC and hope you get a chance to recite them. I think Fox encourages critical views of all sides, asks different kinds of questions and wants to have diversity of view."
More info the mid-stream media will bury.
Rumor is that Nancy Pelosi is going to perform. Something about slithering on the pole, with her tassles………….
You you callin' a hobbit?
Thanks for the laugh….but I would believe about anything is possible,,,would it be here slithering on a pole or on obama's spear?
I had to buy a netbook just because of the airport waiting room screens. I was tired of lugging around my laptop, and I didn't think I could take one more minute of Rick "I'm so smart" Sanchez. These people are not only dishonest, they are big giant a$$holes. I had the unfortunate opportunity to be stuck with no battery in the airport when the whole Rush lie went down. In my eyes, CNN was worse then anyone because of the fact that they do categorize themselves as the middle of the road. Like you said though, when you have to keep saying it to try and convince others, it doesn't work. Losers waiting for a bailout.
Here is a little story:
http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/56423
Maybe the MSM, or even CNN could pick up the tip, and run with it and do a story. But I doubt it. They're probably too busy getting their bellies scratched and their heard patted by Barrack.
I think it is hilarious! Barrack just turned the Fourth Estate into a bunch of lawn jockeys, falling all overthemselves for a chance to hold the Massah's hoss………..
Thanks for the laugh. Was she going to be slithering on the pole, with her tassles….or obama's spear? I can't remember. Of course that would make a great festivus card.
The problem with the me-2 media propagandists is:
They lied to us too many times and we caught on. Fox News, Talk Radio, even Big Hollywood couldn't exist had the propaganda media done their job. We'd still be wtching ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN et al., reading "Time" and "Newspeak" (formerly "Newsweek"). The NYTimes would be the "paper of records" instead of a yellow journalism rag where reporters write fiction and they publish front page exposes on Republican candidates' non affairs (McCain and the Lobbyist) while ignoring Democrat candidates' out of wedlock children.
If the propaganda media told me the earth was round, I'd join the Flat Earth Society.
Re CNN: Would like to add Uncle Bill Schneider who hasn't found a poll yet that couldn't be projected
in the best possible light for Dems. I watched these bastards all through the Clinton years. O'Reilly, on
FNC, was a breath of fresh air at the time and it gave me relief to see SOMEONE call a spade a
spade. CNN was aligned with Hillary for a long time during last year's primaries….but they turned on
a dime and segued into Obama love without missing a beat. My Christmas wish would be to bitch-slap
Cooper in front of his significant other, or buy Lou Dobbs a case of champagne.
If it can't be fun, it has got to be funny. Hmm,Hmm,Hmm "barack the magic, negro"
Cowboy – watch it now! Gotta love them hobbits. At least one of them had the stones to take back the world from evil! Well, even if he had help from the world of men and magic!
Thanks for the laughs, and that would make a great festivus card.
It's funny that a member of the MSM would dare to use such terms as "he said, she said journalism" when they pioneered it. Which "news" agencies rely so heavily on the AP for their up to the minute news? The MSM. Not so with Fox. Meanwhile the MSM has the audacity to accuse other media outlets of catering to extreme elements while they nobly bite their collective tongues on issues like ACORN and any honest representation of health care or cap and trade "debate". What is hurting them is not their journalistic integrity but their reluctance to print or say anything that might anger their ringmaster.
Which can be duel usage if you're married to a stripper!
That's because they take seriously their God granted mandate to steer the opinions of the Great State of America!
By refusing to simply report the news, they believe they are doing us a favor. It's old business model that worked so well for so long for CBS, NBC, ABC, NY & LA Times and their ilk.
They believe their mission is to steer our views back to where the naturally belong, the left.
They're just nailing their coffins shut – the coffins they built all through the Bush years by telling us that the economy was bad, even when it was booming. Now, people see what a bad economy is really like, and they're being told to just lie back and enjoy being funemployed because the economy is really getting better … really.
What have hobbits ever done to you to deserve comparison to CNN?
better analogy would be to those third and fourth rate orc hacks that weren't big enough or smart enough to fight in Soromon's army, so they got stuck running the forge making weapons.
I agree that CNN is trying to market themselves as the middle, moderate, independent network. Most people do not consider themselves as extreme (left or right) and are drawn to "moderate". This is good marketing on the part of CNN.
I used to flip between FOX and CNN. For news stories, I saw little difference in their coverage. The difference occurs when examining the stories each network does not cover. CNN spends more time on 'human interest' stories like the death of Michael Jackson while FOX has spent more time critically examining politicians and our government policies. The differences are larger during the weeknight prime time opinion/news shows. Many news viewers with a job and family have limited time to learn the important news. Personally, the government policies being discussed now are more important to my life than the current, prominent death.
I find the Sunday morning CNN programs, like John King's State of the Nation, still worthwhile. so my time Sunday morning is still spent flipping back and forth between FOX and CNN. Weeknights after the kids are put in bed, I have ceased to waste my time on CNN.
I've been watching and analyzing the demise of the MSM for years now.
My theory has a few different threads. One is, because the left has so dominated the MSM for years, they've come to believe they truly are the "center." They seem oblivious to just how big and diverse America really is. They're surrounded by liberals, they work with liberals, they live next door to liberals, they hang out with liberals on the party circuit. To them, liberalism is the only things that exists.
And since liberals are never wrong under any circumstances by default, it must be our fault.
One last thought, so Klein says the way to big ratings is to bring in controversial talking heads who scream their heads off?
It very well could be possible, with such terrible ratings, they can't afford to bring any big names.
hahaha! That is awesome. Then they have Robert Gibbs as their press secretary…the man stutters sometimes, doesn't have a clue half the time(i am being generous) and he also looks ridiculous…You know the Massa and his cronies laugh at the poor, fat and gullable Gibbs.
Should we separate NBC & MSNBC away from the ideological herd just abit? They are where they are
not only by their hard left liberal ideology but by the pursuit of booty, no not that kind folks, the kind of booty
Soros is also after. General Electric's pursuit of the Cap and Trade scam that this admin could grant them
a portion as a reward for their now scabby knees and brown noses Jeffery Immelt and his news division personel have sustained. When you enter this capitalistic perversion to the mix the results are the same
but the motive changes. I believe that should GE be successful in this endeaver he will have considered
using the NBC as a loss leader as a success and happily sell off the storied outlet to the Arabs if need be.
Where CNN and others can be castigated for their hard left ideology at least its honest in a perverted way
where as GE management are capitalist whores.
Or sucks sideways, I mean they do have some of the higest paid presstitutes around.
Liberalism has it's own discipline of how to lie, it's called getting a degree in Journalism.
"Journalistic Integrity" is now a punch line to a joke thanks to CNN,ABC,CBS etc. all brought to you by the "Liberal" schools of journalism.
Thanks for bringing up that insufferable bore, "Uncle" Bill Schneider. What a horse's ass he is! That smug look that he ALWAYS assumes just after lying through his teeth about the polls is enough to make me puke into my socks.
Rob,
Bang! You nailed it!
Jeff Immelt, GE, George Soros, Bill Gates at Microsoft, Al Gore and a whole host of other hucksters and peddlers wind up the shills at NBC and MSNBC every day. Like little toy soldiers, they go out each day, to spoon feed pablum to the masses. You are right: NBC and MSNBC are the propaganda arm of GE. That is where the K Street Whores are that Congressman Alan Grayson was babbling incoherently about.
You are right also about CNN, at least they are honestly promoting Ol' Ted and Hanoi Janes leftist philosophy. Speaking of Crazy Ted, did you see where he was intimating a few weeks ago that he needed to take CNN back over, and run it? Said he could do a better job than the current management. That would be a hoot!
Bravo.
My sister is one of those sanctimonious liberals who thinks she's smarter than the average bear because she ONLY watches CNN.
as the man says, good luck with that…
if they indeed cannot control the ideas then they will shut them down. Such is their way. Beware of the coming 'crisis'- it will be a ginned-up affair that they will seize to crush dissent. Vigilance is key…
ge—–
It will be interesting to see whether a proposed media bailout would be the final straw for the American people. I'd like to think it would be. Also, I have some perspective on the "Pinch" nickname. His father, Arthur Sulzberger Sr was nicknamed "Punch", which I don't know the origin of. Anyway, while he was, of course, very liberal, he was by most accounts a smart and decent man. When Jr started learning the business, many longtime NYT people didn't think much of him compared to the old man, and started calling him "Pinch".
The irony of CNN — and a caution to Roger Ailes in the future — is that when Ted Turner started the network 29 years ago, he did it with the idea of the network being 'fair and balanced' compared to ABC, CBS and NBC, and even five years later, following the death of CBS founder William Paley, North Carolina Sen. Jesse Helms was openly championing for Ted to buy CBS "…and fire Dan Rather".
It was Turner's jump into Hollywood with his MGM purchase in '85 and subsequent ego stroking by the Hollywood elites combined with the ego stroking of some of the liberals he hired away from the networks to run CNN that resulted in the move left, a shift which became obvious in 1986 with his butt-kissing of Castro so CNN could open a Havana bureau ahead of the other networks.
CNN had the chance to get the ratings Fox has now, but threw it away two decades ago because its reporters and execs didn't want to change the TV news business in anything more than high-tech terms. It's something for Ailes and Rupert Murdoch to be wary of in the long run, because even though Fox has shown the ratings and ad $$$ to be made from a network that doesn't lean left, due to the natural inclination of j-schools to turn out liberal reporters, if you don't stay focused, your network will drift left over time.
Down with all mass media! In our perfect world, there would be Fox- and nothing else.
Way too many disturbing and unwanted visuals going on here. LMAO!
QUESTION: what gave birth to this phenomenon?
The original duty and blessing of NEWS operations is how they served the public as WATCHDOGS. If we don't have that, we're screwed. So, what changed NEWS media? Viet Nam in the Living Room? But wasn't it LBJ, a Dem, whose decisions resulted in 1,000 dead soldiers a month at one point? Was it only in the past 15-20 years that Liberal Arts professors were off-the-hook kooky? Are they to blame for launching brain-changed grads into our news-gathering workforce? Say! Keith Olbermann's degree isn't Journalism, but "Communications Arts." So is this Cult of Celebrity and "repeating a falsehood until it becomes FACT" the MO here? But wait! Why are so many successful radio talk show hosts holders of amazing academic credentials; of which "Journalism" isn't a prominent sheepskin? WHERE is there commonalities?
thanks for the heads up on ol' Pinch. Aware of the fact the old man was a decent sort; however it ended there.
Pinch is a typical monied elite who mouths socialist platitudes from the comfort of his upper east side lifestyle- a true limousine liberal.
And ANY more baillouts will be met with abject suspicion…
I don't think admitting their ideological bias would work. Then it would be 287 liberal news outlets competing for 11 viewers. Doesn't add up.
don't taze me,bro!
"They lied to us too many times and we caught on."
by an overwhelming majority, more fox news viewers falsely thought iraq had anything to do with the 9/11 attacks. 45 percent of fox news viewers believe the false claim that health care legislation includes “death panels” while 55 percent believe the false claim that coverage will be extended to illegal immigrants.
exactly who is being lied to here?
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2009/08/18/nbc-poll...
"CNN President Jon Klein says …"It’s the oldest trick in the book to trot out over-the-top hosts and put them on a cable-news show[.]” … " that CNN “refuse[s] to do the things that might get us a quick number or cater to the extremes…”
That's rich coming from the president of the Clinton News Network… who may as well change their initials to ONN.
Absolutely great post! This post was so good I'm jealous. It goes beyond insanity for cnn to pretend they are anything but biased when they have hacks like sanchez and cooper. Politico is far more covert and someone might want to clue hugh hewitt in on the pretense.
You're actually linking an NBC poll of opinions on a COMPETING NEWS channel?
You must have linked the wrong thing, isn't this suppose to be the 89% of bankruptcies are from Medical bills?
Ted back in the halter? I look forward to it. He is a dinosaur as is the programing at CNN.
The world is changing and I'll bet you Ted has not gotten wind of it yet.
Amen my brother, I look forward to their attempt to catch up with Fox in particular. You can see their approach that was used to compete with Rush worked so well. They don't have the ability to to compete without changing their philosophy. Liberalism isn't about competition its about destroying their enemies. Where is the attractiveness for ratings accum in that? No, losers all.
I think you have the wrong link, I didn't see anything in that article referring to Fox News viewers.
Anyway, I've watched Fox for years, I thought we went into Iraq because everyone and their mother thought they had WMD's, including Clinton. I remember wondering why people thought Iraq had anything to do with 911, other than a possible meeting that Attah had with someone there.
I never believed the Death Panels, but I think it is very likely for that to happen through rationing. It happens now in England.
Not sure about the illegal immigrant coverage yet.
Here's a link for YOU – http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1378/political-news-i...
Here’s something I’ve been thinking of for a while now.
You know how the lefties like to call Fox News “Faux News”? Well let’s break that down shall we?
If by faux you mean false then you’re an idiot because faux is pronounced foe.
If by faux you mean foe then I’m glad because if Fox is the “foe” of the MSM then we are on the right side of the issue.
Stupid Dems can’t even get an insult right.
Kick-ass, John.
I liked that Cowboy. if you don't mind I will steal it and not give credit. If is wasn't quite as good
I would of course credit you.
Their are not too happy with Dobbs and he is a leftist on most issues.
I've studied modern liberals through and through for a heck of a long time, being one for some 20 years, and basically surrounded by them.
The anger in modern liberals comes directly from their fundamental mind set. Modern liberalism is based totally on emotions, logic and reason need not apply.
How can one have a reasonable, logical, factual debate with emotions? You can't. It doesn't work. So they have nothing else to resort to other than anger, character assassination, and destroying their enemies.
Questions come in two flavors: objective and subjective. If you wanted to build a football field, there is no doubt what so ever the size, shape, those answers can be verified 100% in the NFL rule book. Those are objective questions, they have verifiable answers.
Now, where to build the field? That is subjective, there is no 100% verifiable correct answer. There are serious of questions that must be judged, and there's no guarantee who will agree with the answers.
Conservatives and libertarians deal in objective debates. Modern liberals live and thrive in the subjective world, where things like popularity, and connections, and smarmy elitism decide who's right and who's wrong.
That's how they do it. Force them to stick to the objective questions, you win. Let them lead you astray into the subjective world, they win every time.
CNN is losing the battle todrag viewers into their subjective world.
Hell, that'll work. As long as you can use it to entertain someone and hopefully get some mileage out of it. One of these days, on of these little tidbits will stick, and the story will grow wings.
Here's another of my originals you can use. The Healthcare Fiasco? It's too complicated for most folks to grasp. Here is the new acronym: AMSICK……….
Renee,
You're a genius!
That was fantastic!
Thanx for the laugh. It is so funny, because it is true. The Lame Stream Media; out of step, and out of touch.
Love it. I wouldn't use anything of yours without giving you credit. I'm not a liberal and I refuse to play one on BIg Gov.
Absolutely correct. It is very difficult to win a debate when the other side can change the rules as they
see fit particularly when they see themselves on the short end. If they can't change the rules they will change the subject.
Step 1: Refuse to allow them to do that. That's my preferred method of dealing with them. Shuts them down faster than anything. Because they're existing in liberal enclaves, that almost never happens to them. That is an Achilles heel.
Example:
Lib) Bush is the biggest moron in the world.
Me) President Bush has an MBA from an ivy league college. Do you?
Confused Lib) Well, his Daddy bought that for him, that's meaningless.
Smiling Me) Well that's where the Kennedy's got their degrees, does that mean they're morons?
Really Confused, and getting angry Lib) I don't care where he got a degree Bush is a moron.
Smirking Me) President Bush can fly a jet, can you?
Lib who's figured out he's dealing with some one who knows facts) You're a racist.
Then they storm off in a cloud of smugness.
I think your middle paragraph is a great big hammer hitting the nail on the head squarely. Well said.
"exactly who is being lied to here?"
You
[...] Nolte has it exactly right. CNN, and much (though never enough) of the Dinosaur Media, are dying because everything they do [...]
That was one of the most insightful and truthful articles I've read in a long time.
You want to see where Politico's head is at, check out their cartoons.
It's like the "Record" newspaper in NJ.
It is always so bias against anything republican.
I finally stopped buying the paper years ago after my complaints went unaswered.
No balance, but the comments are 80% copnservitive. They probably don't know that!
Illegals ARE covered! Even democrats admit by previous Supreme court rulings, if they are NOT clearly excluded in the bill, they CAN'T be Excluded! Therefor They ARE INCLUDED!
Yes!!
This is the biggest problem in combatting liberalism over the next few decades.
The young have no frame of reference as to what the real world is (race, war, economics) because our civilization has been so stable for so long. It is easy for them (line of least resistance) to accept what their leftist teachers and professors tell them.
It's "penultimate," meaning "almost last," like a "peninsula" is "almost an island." "Panultimate" is not a legitimate word. However, perhaps you are right in that it SHOULD be added to the dictionary to describe a national leader who wants a "PAN-world" government, which will make the "ULTIMATE" (meaning last) President elected by free, if misguided, Americans. If Obama succeeds, future elections will be controlled by the ever-expanding masses sponging off the dwindling cohort of private taxpayers, until the bank is finally broke…. unless the Left were to adopt your other idea and abort itself out of existence in a generation.

Education, labor unions and media were targeted by the commies back in the 30s & 40s.
J-schools have been comprimised.
You just gave them a headache. LOL
You mean "demean and ridicule their own viewers." Right. Or in my case, it's a "former viewer." Since Glenn Beck left CNN, I don't bother tuning in.
"Reticule" is a valid word, but it means "a small purse," which is what we will all have when Obama is done with us.
…especially where the owner is married to Hanoi Jane.
So true. It's like I keep telling a liberal friend of mine, who admits that the media's biased but insists that he can "correct" for it. You can't "correct" for what they don't report.
I'm just guessing here, but I'll bet the people at CNN really think the are centrist. They're surrounded in their personal and professional lives by people who agree with them. They need to ask around to see how many self identified "conservatives" work with them, remembering that more than 50% of the country is either conservative, or conservative-leaning independents. Don't ask about Republicans, though. We're not real happy with the GOP right now.
I know Fox tends to lean right, but the actual news is much more factual than anything I can get anywhere else. If there were another news source that was centrist, or balanced with both points of view, I'd watch.
i think it was Will Rogers who said, "If you don't read the news, you're uninformed. If you do, you're misinformed."
Bias + Bias = Balance.
It simply isn't realistic to think that human beings will be able to completely screen their own biases out of their reportage. By acknowledging that inescapable fact, and hiring from across the political spectrum, EVERYTHING gets covered, from as many angles as possible.
HEY MSM…. follow this one asd ask questions ….
Freaking Malik Zulu Shabazz, of all people! Obama meets with a terrorist, from a white hating, Jew hating, Black Supremacist Organization and he caint take the time to meet with General McChrystal and make a decision on Afghanistan, while troops are dying.
Let them swirl down the drain and drown in their own sewage. The MSM is caught in the trap of their own making. The Obama admistration is doing the same thing, lying to us and believing that we will fall for it. They too will come undone by the same bs the MSM has tried to pawn off on us.
Although I agree with your article about CNN the snake that seems to be slipping away in this debate is Politico. If you have ever seen Mike Allen on Fox you will know what a slime ball he is. He talks as if he knew for a fact what he is talking about when of course he doesn't have a clue. I just saw Scarbrough bet him with three to one odds that Allen was wrong about the three up coming races. He isn;t an analyst he is a cheer leader for Obama.
[...] Incidentally, at Big Government, John Nolte writes, “How the MSM Might Survive: Come Out of the Ideological Closet.” [...]
Agree with the sentiments on CNN. For one though, I don't get the Fox being fair and balanced, much less right of center. They're not. They still do stuff and stories for ratings, especially the Shep Smith hour(s) and even the evening news hour takes several story tips from what everyone else it doing.
Here is what is missing and one thing that Beck provides somewhat… context. Rush does this very well on radio but it is missing mostly on TV news. What is the lead… who released what and why. What is the context on this or that story and how is it being shaped in the press?
Too often I get unhappy that Fox failed to even do basic questioning of any given premise. Too many times they go along. SO much of the news is shaped or formed. A premise is presented and then reacted to. Who is asking why? Who proposed the premise and does it hold under scrutiny? What historical context can this story be placed in and what would a critical thinker/viewer look for in the way something is being framed?
I don't know why Fox doesn't mirror Rush in showing a popular story in the news of the day or week; how it was framed and covered… by competitors and then deconstruct it and see what is really there. Too often, nothing is there and it was an excuse to push this or that on us. CNN and the big3 networks suck bigtime. They carry the libtard agenda unquestionably and are paying for it… just like the newspapers…. till they die.
I think the final straw for CNN was Susan Roesgen reporting on the Tea Party protests. Remember this?

And no, CNN didn't fire her over this. They defended her. Then, when her contract was up, they quietly did not renew it.
Also, I don't mind Campbell Brown. I think she does a pretty fair job and I have a huge crush on her.
How might the MSM survive? If they pass Cap & Trade the owners of MSNBC will have plenty of money to invest and will be able to continue to report only things that help their own agenda and make them richer. They can help pick all of our presidents they way they picked Obama.
And be more like Fox News? Thanks but no thanks. I'll pull an Elvis and shoot my TV if that ever happens!
I don't go so far as to call them "dishonest". That would require their KNOWING their reports were untrue.
Sadly, they really do believe the crap they dish out. It boils down to the preconceived notions they have even before they approach a new story.
Example: Reid/Pelosi declare their health care bills will insure millions of uninured, reduce the deficit, punish the insurance companies, and so on. A liberal reporter hears that and says "Right on!". He then goes on camera and repeats this drivel.
A conservative, on the other hand, comes to the table with a different outlook. First and foremost, conservatives have a health skepticism of government's ability to "solve" problems. In fact, we go further and question the very motives of the do-gooders. Are they really trying to solve the problem? Or are they advancing a bill that will simply grow their constituencies (gov't bureaucracies, unions, community organizers)?
It's the lack of skepticism that undermines the reporting in the MSM. They rarely challenge the premise if government good intentions. And when did you ever hear one of them look back and question, for instance, why we've spent so much money and employed so many people in the Energy Dept for 35 years….with a mission of "reducing America's reliance on foreign oil". Missions, schmission. It's become nothing more than a permanent employment program with no mission, no accomplishments.
How totally STUPID. There is no "MODERATE" taliban…… All muslims may not be terrorists but you Cannot TRUST any Muslim…………….. They will turn and make a FOOL of Obama (Not hard to do)……….
They are AFRAID of Obama and his White House Soldiers…. Get some Courage MSM, when you're Right we will SUPPORT You ! Good journalists are not Afraid………………
Thanks Cowboy!
) Sorry I didn’t reply earlier but I had to go home and feed the family and didn’t see you post till this morning.
BTW I’m a big CowboyLogic fan.
The point was made over 6 years ago by Bernard Goldberg in Bias that Big Media in fact does see itself as middle-of-the-road, for the precise reason that all these people live in the very definition of an echo chamber.
The recent explosion of Tea Party Conservatism is a reaction both to Big Media's self-regard and to the same phenomenon among Eastern prep-school Republicans – both of whom send their children to the same schools. Normal people are finally getting annoyed enough to make their presence felt, and good for them. Is this a great country, or what?
