The EPA is now paying the American Lung Association to attack Republicans

The Environmental Protection Agency is paying the American Lung Association to run attack ads against Republican members of Congress.

“The American Lung Association has targeted House Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton for his efforts to stop U.S. EPA from regulating greenhouse gas emissions by placing billboards within sight of his district offices linking climate change with increased childhood asthma,” reports E&E News PM.
But as we reported last week in “EPA owns the American Lung Association,” the EPA has paid the American Lung Association over $20 million in the last ten years, and has paid the ALA many more millions in a symbiotic relationship going back to at least 1990.
The EPA-ALA relationship works something like this: EPA pays the ALA and, in return, the ALA agitates for more stringent EPA air quality regulation, including by lawsuit. Now it’s billboards.
In addition to defunding National Public Radio, the House GOP should look at the EPA’s funding of American Lung Association.
It doesn’t matter that the EPA policies will cause your electricity rates to necessarily skyrocket. It’s all about fundamentally changing America.

It will be a cold day in hell when I make another contribution to ALA. My wife has COPD and I was a contributor but since they want to pick sides I'll pick the one that doesn't include funding their political ambitions. I'll be sending them an email to let them know how I feel about them as well.
We should make an ad that shows a dieing child and grieving parents with the caption "We should have known that those mercury lightbulbs could kill . . ."
I've had to change my giving behavior similarly. Hopefully many have.
We must never ever forget….we surround them…..I strongly suggest everyone follow the sage advice of rainmaker….

I agree about those dangerous mercury bulbs. They SHOULD be pulled from the market. Typical of our Govt to get it backwards. Did you see the list of EPA regulations if one should break in the house. People and pets have to LEAVE! The debris has to be in a closed container. The heat & A/C has to be turned off, and the house has to be ventilated out! Really?
I demand that all incandescent factories, be opended and operational and that the toxic mercury bulbs be outlawed!

As far as pulmonary disease, causes can be genetic such as Cystic Fibrosis, autoimmune such as sarcoidosis,
cardiovascular clotting diseases, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, histoplasmosis, Flu virus, T.B.,
pneumonia, pulmonary vascular disease, RSV Virus, Primary pulmonary hypertension, swine flu, allergic asthma,
Broncho pulmonary dysplasia, coccidiomycosis, non TB mycobacterium, and many more. To my knowledge none of these are due to polution.
Air pollution is an irritant and causes problems. I hate dirty air but one cannot say that all respiratory disease is caused by it as this billboard suggests.

I don't know if this is related but I saw some stooge accost a woman after having a cigarette. He said he "represented" the American Lung Association and thought he should tell her about the ills of smoking. I am not even a smoker but I was offended that people are walking the streets now policing peoples' health!
My tax dollars are going to the ALA? Isn't that a private NGO? How does EPA money get there? If EPA wants ads, it needs to have an ad budget. Is this legal? It certainly is not honest, legal or no.
As of now, there's no place for my money but the Veteran's Administration, and there only until I can find somewhere better for Vets.

* Shut off the central forced-air heating/air conditioning (H&AC) system, if you have one.
* Collect materials you will need to clean up the broken bulb:
o Stiff paper or cardboard
o Sticky tape (e.g., duct tape)
o Damp paper towels or disposable wet wipes (for hard surfaces)
o Glass jar with a metal lid (such as a canning jar) or a sealable plastic bag(s)
Cleanup Steps for Hard Surfaces
* Carefully scoop up glass fragments and powder using stiff paper or cardboard and place debris and paper/cardboard in a glass jar with a metal lid. If a glass jar is not available, use a sealable plastic bag. (NOTE: Since a plastic bag will not prevent the mercury vapor from escaping, remove the plastic bag(s) from the home after cleanup.)
* Use sticky tape, such as duct tape, to pick up any remaining small glass fragments and powder. Place the used tape in the glass jar or plastic bag.
* Wipe the area clean with damp paper towels or disposable wet wipes. Place the towels in the glass jar or plastic bag.
* Vacuuming of hard surfaces during cleanup is not recommended unless broken glass remains after all other cleanup steps have been taken. [NOTE: It is possible that vacuuming could spread mercury-containing powder or mercury vapor, although available information on this problem is limited.] If vacuuming is needed to ensure removal of all broken glass, keep the following tips in mind:
o Keep a window or door to the outdoors open;
o Vacuum the area where the bulb was broken using the vacuum hose, if available; and
o Remove the vacuum bag (or empty and wipe the canister) and seal the bag/vacuum debris, and any materials used to clean the vacuum, in a plastic bag.
* Promptly place all bulb debris and cleanup materials, including vacuum cleaner bags, outdoors in a trash container or protected area until materials can be disposed of properly.
o Check with your local or state government about disposal requirements in your area. Some states and communities require fluorescent bulbs (broken or unbroken) be taken to a local recycling center.
* Wash your hands with soap and water after disposing of the jars or plastic bags containing bulb debris and cleanup materials.

* After vacuuming is completed, keep the H&AC system shut off and the window or door to the outside open, as practical, for several hours.
OMG How DISINGENUOUS! It was the EPA and the Democrats who did away with CFC ASTHMA INHALERS and now they have the blood of dead asthma patients on their hands. The "save the planet" HFC inhalers S U CK and are 3 times the price and I am willing to bet that 80% of people with asthma have had their condition worsened because of that LAME decision. I now use a portable nebulizer instead of the handy portable inhalers that we USED to be able to use until the EPA deemed we were damaging the freaking OZONE layer. This is NOT the stated goal of the ALA and they should have to operate as a political entitiy if they are going to enter that arena. Nor is it what the public donates it's money to engage in. Please remove your wise-giving accredidation from ALL ALA offices until they either remove themselves from political activism or register as a PAC.

You could make products much cheaper if you eliminate the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Without all of those pesky rules you would be able to make products as cheaply as they do in China.
