The reason for the SWAT team was so that the news could show them lined up to protect us from the Tea Partiers. All the things that went on during the immigration protests made the left look not so good. Soooo, they needed a couple of shots of the police out in force too for the Tea Partiers.

Unless there was a real threat of violence, full riot gear deployed across from peaceful protesters is nothing more than intimidation, uniformed officers would have sufficed. I was there in Quincy today. The Tea Partiers tried to move into an area next the convention center closed to all the public, and the Secret Service told them to move back across the street. The Tea Partiers got very mouthy and yelling and crying about their rights being violated. There was not enough uniformed police on that particular corner at that particular time, as the President was arriving on the opposite side of the building – to where they were headed – so they called police in, in riot gear, because the Tea Partiers were getting nasty. They claimed to be extremely well behaved, and while most were, a few were going overboard and rabble rousing. There are local elements of the tea party that call for bloody revolution and make ridiculous and outlandish claims against any and all in elected Democrats, so I'm not surprised.

What I find interesting is that despite having the streets blocked off the police still instructed people to stay on the sidewalks as if they would impede the flow of traffic.. Since we used espionage and dirty tactics to dismantle the Soviet "menace" (then subsequently cast it as a natural effect of Communism, thereby cementing our position that capitalism is superior), the Middle East has become increasingly violent. You see, they were being held in check by the Soviets. When we came and gave them "freedom" we actually put a bunch of radical conservative Muslim leaders in charge to further destabilize the region. From a cursory examination of the article I noticed, very simply, that SWAT teams are under local or state control. Hence legally, barring the State governor relegating his authority to Barry, King O' has no authority to activate a SWAT team. As CIC any force he actually has authority over would violate the Posse-Commitatus act by activating. I do not care what some dipshit "journalist" says if I google search this topic. Barry simply does not have the authority to activate a state, or local, law enforcement agency singlehandedly short of an executive order (which did not happen, as I do do my research archive.gov/federal-register/executive-orders if you need a source). If the order did come from Barry, it would have been a gross violation of the tenth amendment among other laws. Do not assume I am not on your side simply because I do not stick to the narrative fed to me by biggovernment.com.

Good to see a link. It wasn't one of the ones I found. I used to be a journalist and I know how research looks in a story. The ones I saw had none. ALL the people who reported the ones I read just said that Obama was in town and the SWAT team showed up. From that they concluded that Obama had called in the big guns. I do not see anyone as credible without verifiable primary sources.
From your linked story, it is clear that the crowd didn't get the message to move and the deputy overreacted by calling in the mobile task force.

More should be made of the fact that ANYONE had to call out the riot police for this. Doesn't matter who overreacts, the small govt people NEED to control the narrative and it is too difficult if everyone ends every sentence with …"because of Obama." When I started looking about 8 pm MST the info was really sketchy. More info has been added. Having crowd control out from E St Louis seems odd to me. A local chief of police getting ornery because little old ladies singing patriotic songs are not moving across the street (for the 2nd time) fast enough is sad in my book. I doubt security for any POTUS is a walk in the park but this appears to be ludicrus when you realize what and who the crowd is and how much a small town local yokel wants to accomadate for safetys sake the DC committee. After all this is a really big event for a small community of 40,000 many of who are not city dwellers.

I read somewhere on a blog from the local Tea Party perhaps that some of the ladies wound up cracking up and laughing at the city slicker boys in black. How embarassing! I'm glad it was a non-event for all.

I have to call it like I see it. It seems the poster is trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill. There really is no need for exaggeration in this instance. They are riot police not SWAT. SWAT stands for special weapons and tactics and they are usually called in to handle the really volatile situations such as hostage situations. Obviously that is not what they were faced with in Quincy. The handful of officers in riot gear was a weak attempt at a show of force. I believe the Quincy Police understood how low the risk was and did their best to play the part for the sake of the Presidential Security team. Someone as popular with the people as Obama is probably keeps his security teams working overtime. You folks think he is paranoid now?
