Scott Brown Delivers GOP Weekly Address: Accuses Obama and Dems of ‘Bitter, Destructive and Endless’ Drive to Pass Health Care
by Jim HoftSometimes the GOP Hits the Mark. Today It Was a Bull’s-Eye….
Senator Scott Brown delivered the GOP Weekly Address today.
The freshman Republican Senator from Massachusetts scored a direct hit on Barack Obama and fellow Democrats for their “bitter, destructive and endless drive to pass health care.”
Choosing Brown to deliver this week’s address was a great move. It was a timely reminder to democrats on how Americans feel about their drive to nationalize the nation’s health care system. Brown currently holds a 70% approval rating… in Massachusetts.
This was devastating:
Terrific… Nothing like a little reminder to democrats on the mood of the nation a week before they plan to ram Obamacare down our throats.
Here’s the transcript:
Hello, I’m United States Senator Scott Brown from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
“When the people of my state elected me in January, they sent more than a senator to Washington – they sent a message. Across party lines, the voters told politicians in Washington to get its priorities right.
“And from my travels and conversation with people throughout this country, they told me that they want their President and Congress to focus on creating jobs and reviving America’s economy. Instead, for more than a year now, we have seen a bitter, destructive, and endless drive to completely transform America’s health care system.
“In January of last year, unemployment hit 7.2 percent and our economy was hurting badly. But, early in President Obama’s term, he and the Democratic leadership of Congress made takeover of health care their first priority.
“Today, times are even tougher across our nation when it comes to our economy. Nearly one in ten Americans are still out of work. And still, the President and Congress are focused on ramming through their health-care bill, whatever it takes, whatever the cost.
“Maybe you remember what President Obama promised in his State of the Union address. He said he was going to finally focus on jobs and the economy for the remainder of this year. I applauded him for that. Well, here it is, it’s almost spring. And what is he out there talking about again? That same 2,700-page, multi-trillion dollar health care legislation.
“So, an entire year has gone to waste. Millions of Americans have lost their jobs, and many more jobs are in danger. Even now, the President still hasn’t gotten the message.
“Somehow, the greater the public opposition to the health care bill, the more determined they seem to force it on us anyway. Their attitude shows Washington at its very worst – the presumption that they know best, and they’re going to get their way whether the American people like it or not.
“And, when politicians start thinking like that, they don’t let anything get in their way – not public opinion, not the rules of fair play, not even their own promises.
“They pledged transparency. Instead, we have a health care bill tainted by secrecy, concealed cost, and full of backroom deals– and that’s just not right. They should do better. The American people expect more.
“They pledged a true bipartisan effort. Instead, they have resorted to bending the rules, and they now intend to seize control of health care in America on a strict party-line vote.
“In speech after speech on his health care plan, the President has tried to convince us that what he is proposing will be good for America. But, how can it be good for America if it raises taxes by a half trillion dollars and costs a trillion dollars or more to implement? In addition, how can it be good if it takes another half a trillion dollars away from seniors on Medicare, and still includes all the backroom deals you have been hearing about for months?
“Well, for the past year or more, the new establishment in Washington has tried again and again to sell this plan to the American people. But the Americans aren’t buying it, and for good reason. And now, what’s going on is a last, desperate power play. They actually tell us that passing the bill is necessary, if only to prove that something can get done in Washington.
“Well, I haven’t been here very long, but, I can tell you this much already: Nothing has distracted the attention and energy of the nation’s capital more than this disastrous detour. And, the surest way to return to the people’s business is to listen to the people themselves: We need to drop this whole scheme of federally controlled health care, start over, and work together on real reforms at the state level that will contain costs and won’t leave America trillions of dollars deeper in debt.
“This, above all, was the message that the people of my state sent to the President and the Congress in the election over a month ago.
“You know some of my Democratic colleagues, you know, are being leaned on mighty hard right now. Speaker Pelosi and others are handing down their marching orders, telling them to vote for this bill no matter what. Rarely have elected leaders been so intent on defying the public will. For many members of Congress, the time for choosing is near – do what the party leadership demands, or do what the people have asked you to do. If my colleagues don’t mind some advice from a newcomer, I’d suggest going with the will of the people.
“After all, from the very beginning of this debate, the American people have called it correctly. In every part of the country, Republicans and Democrats have agreed on serious, straightforward, commonsense health care reform. They expect us in Washington to do the same – working together, acting fairly and by the rules, and staying focused on the need to make the American economy as strong as it can be. That is the business that brought me here on an unexpected journey to Washington. And, it’s the responsibility of everyone sent here to serve our country. We can do better – and I challenge my colleagues and the President to do just that.
“I’m Senator Scott Brown and thank you very much for listening.”
Excellent.
The AP added this on today’s GOP address:
Brown himself can claim responsibility for the Democrats’ failure to pass health overhaul legislation to date. They were on the verge of doing so before Brown claimed the late Edward M. Kennedy’s Senate seat in a special election upset in January, depriving Democrats of their filibuster-proof supermajority and throwing the health care effort into limbo.

"Bitter" isn't a strong enough word, "irrational suicidal devotion" is much more accurate term to describe this type of collective mental illness…
well he sounds good today but lets not start proclaiming
him the next POTUS again

Which is why thousands of us across this great land sent money to his campaign! He did what we asked him to do.
Thank goodness there is someone out there who seems to get it.
What I DON"T get is why the department of education needs to buy shotguns.
http://www.scribd.com/doc/28260325/Remington-Shot...
Brown just scored a direct hit on the SS Obama.
Kit,
I saw that this past week and marveled at it. Do you find it ironic that although those shotguns are for the Department of Education, the delivery is in Chicago.
Further ironic, is about a month ago, the IRS Enforcement Division ordered 60 of the same model shotgun…
Several humorous cartoons on Obamacare at http://drawfortruth.wordpress.com/category/health...
Here is the right link http://drawfortruth.wordpress.com/category/health... for the cartoons!
Work must be a four letter word for Obama that jobs (another bad word) are not a priority, especially when many cry out for work, not aide.
Reporter:
“Speaker Pelosi can you please give us a sense of what you are willing to do in order to pass Obama’s health care plan?”
Pelosi:
“Well I’ve done everyone that is willing, and my knees are tired, I don’t know what else to do . . .”
Reporter:
“Have you tried teabagging?”
Pelosi:
“No. But I can assure you that Representative Frank is on top of the situation and is hard at work.”
Reporter:
“Thats fantastic to hear that that part of the plan is going smoothly . . . How are you handling the female “no” votes?”
Pelosi:
“That’s easy. Attorney General Reno is locked and loaded, in full leather, and ready to roll.”
Reporter:
“What will you do if these tactics do not work?”
Pelosi:
“Well I’ve found their are many areas of entry, we will use lubrication if we have too but we will get this passed.”
Reporter:
“Again, Speaker Pelosi, if all of this activity fails what is next?”
Pelosi:
“Have you seen the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid?”
Reporter:
“Great movie. Who will play the mexicans?”
Pelosi:
“The Unions.”

Meanwhile, Pelosi continues to arrange her circular firing squad of, "yes" votes.
I saw that too! WHY do they need shotguns???? Someone please explain that one to me!!! This administration is getting more criminal with every breath!!!
Let's face facts, baby.
This administration has no other engine but "bitter, destructive and endless drive" to pass anything. Look at and listen to Obama; to his cabinet; to his appointees–are these not the most most bitter, driven people trying to pass the most destructive policies you've ever witnessed??
It seems that no matter what Brown or anyone else says…they're going to shove this debacle down our throat!!! God help us!!!
of THE PEOPLE, by THE PEOPLE, for THE PEOPLE…vote NO!!!
Thanks Senator Brown
If they pass this. The first person who is forced to pay this tax, must step forward and allow the big legal guns to go to work. Social Security only stood because the high court acquiesced to it. I do not believe the current court would share that courts view.
This Graphic Michelle Malkin has up on her blog should go viral.

This is the "Downtown" Scottie Brown I know and love…scoring three-pointers and throwing elbows driving to the hole !
Why indeed?…….it seems they are preparing to up the ante…..Who's the first to go all in ?…………

Seems to me the message is quite clear about the shotguns…. They are inviting us to "arm up" to protect ourselves against their stated tyranny ! Sounds right to me…

Funny thing about all these gubment agency's buying 12 gauge pump shotguns.
I wonder, has anyone told the dumb bastards they needed to buy any ammo?
I agree with some of what he said, but sorry, Senator Brown – the government doesn't (or shouldn't) 'create' jobs. What they *should* do is reduce or remove taxation and regulations – essentially, step out of the way – and let the private sector do the job creation.

More like 100 yrs, teach your grand children well, the picture will be too large for
them to see the whole, in time for them to stop it, just as it was for us. We must
find a way to ingrain vigilance into them, without petrifying them with fear. Educa-
tion is the answer, however we will not be able to count on the public system to
teach what our children need to learn. Remember WE were taught FDR was the
Savior of America in our public school system.
Dead on BULLSEYE, Sentaor Brown ! These people ARE truly insane. There is not a shred of honesty, decency or Americanism with ANY ONE of them. They do NOT represent the interests of this nation….only their statist agenda. We are getting so close to physically dragging them from their offices and dealing with them as the CONSTITUTION directs.
The kickoff shall be IF one of two things occurs this year. If ObamaCare passes, the country will be bankrupt for decades to come. Or second, if the leftist statists maintain the House (purse strings) this November to further destroy the country financially. They MUST be defeated and soundly or the USA as we know it is gone to these deceitful, lying scumbags. It will be our turn……if they are not careful. Congress ! Take heed !
Good one Brown!
One of those moments when we in Massachusetts can hold our heads up again. We're supposed to be the Cradle of Liberty–sometimes it seems less Cradle, more Abortion Clinic.
This is one of those rair political moments when a Massachusetts voter, like myself, is proud of his state.
The Reich has been resurrected, with Obama as the maniacal dictator, ruling absolutely and oppressively aganist the will of the people.
The progressives are committing treason by willfully subverting the law because they cannot shape their agenda lawfully. The progressives for all intents and actions have removed their masks. If they shove this Ponzi bill through in violation of the law they should be treated as the traitor's that they are, and dealt with no differently then all the traitor's of the past were.
It makes no difference how one views this——-is it more insanity then unconstitutionality or more unconstitutionality then insanity, if Obama signs this bill into law then it becomes a valid reason to impeach him—
(CRACKING UP) Ummm… They are leftists and libs… They don't even know which end to point ! And you expect them to KNOW there is a little series of projectiles that explodes from the rimfire end ???
Nothing wrong with tossing a couple of pies, throwing some eggs or T.P.-ing at a few of the loons once in a while to voice our distaste with the lib/prog agenda. I like the idea of "flash mobbing", "general strikes" and "rolling roadblocks" to send a message. The thought on all of these is to cause a brief interruption of the flow of business as usual in government and put people's attention on the general dissatisfaction with the socialist march to economic suicide. We should be mailing cans of "slime" (the kids toy) to members of congress that support 'nationalized health care', 'illegal amnesty' or 'crap and tax'!
Sure these are all stunts but we need to remember that they have Holly-weird on their side and we don't…
That's why we need to be just as aggressive and just as "in your face" with these idiots! The media loves a good stunt but they despise the bold truth so the solution is to provide them with boldly truthful stunts.
Remember all of the "green" sit ins and "anti capitalism" of a few years ago and all of the people that were willingly arrested for their cause?
That's where we need people on our side to get to in their minds and accept that civil disobedience is an effective tool that we must to adopt!
It will confuse them and it will catch them completely off guard…
If we change the rules of the game by turning the rules on their head they will have no choice but to adjust to tactics that have been taken away from them and that is when they always at their weakest!
Quote,"And now, what’s going on is a last, desperate power play."That is all this healthcare is about. My gut feeling is that it has nothing to do with healthcare at all…it is just a power grab, period….My crystal ball also see's the greater insurance industry being taken over by the government next.People don't have the money for insurance, so the whole industry is hurting, so the government must "save" this industry too.
More drastic measures will be needed. Did IMPEACHMENT stop Clinton ?
The AP added this on today’s GOP address:

Kennedy’s Senate seat in a special election upset in January, depriving Democrats of their filibuster-proof supermajority and throwing the health care effort into limbo.
While Brown's election did break the supermajority the senate could have passed the legislation before he was seated. Like the other items that were voted on by the interim senator in Ted's seat. The AP tries to place the entire credit (or blame, depending on your point of view) of stalling this monstrosity at the foot of Brown.
Don't despair aharris, after o's shot across the bow of the SCOTUS at his state of the union
address, & Chief Justice Roberts subsequent comments on same, I believe the High Court
is readying itself to take him (o) on if need be. It is not unprecedented, & I frankly look forward
to the SMACKDOWN !
I'm wondering if the Federal Appeals Court is where we should be mining for our conservative
Presidential candidate in 2012.
Here is a sign of things to come, if this actually gets thrust upon us all.

AAHHhhh………TOO BIG TO FAIL ,………Yes I've heard of this concept somewhere before…………
last four letters in AMERICAN == I CAN
last four letters in REPUBLICAN== I CAN
last four letter in DEMOCRATS == RATS
Better to place credit or blame entirely on Brown than on Piglosi's failure to pass it before he
was elected. It is a smokescreen. After AP's first responsibility IS to their commie masters.
Amen sister!

And it should resonate through the rest of the week in the real Media…
A line is being drawn in the sand between the statists and Americans, and I use the term American in the grandest sense. The United States of America represents one of the last bastions of traditional liberalism, which is why the Left should no longer be identified as liberal, but rather we should continue to identify its members as progressive statists. The Left believes the precepts of our Constitution have failed society, and thus, we must look towards the “enlightened democracies” of socialized Europe for guidance in the progression of American society.
We hear the mantra of rights professed daily by the progressives: education, work, social security, health care, etc. And since we do not live in a state of nature, the guarantor of those rights must be the government. This is the definition of a statist, and adherence to these beliefs is inherently in opposition to the Constitution. The Founders recognized that government could NEVER be the guarantor of rights which is why so much of the Constitution is written in terms of limiting powers conferred upon the government.
If it passes it will probably never be addressed…our country will spiral out of existence as we know it.
If it looks like a coup, quacks like a coup, and walks like a coup, it probably is a coup.
I'm not entirely sure what motivates the Dems to push so hard to pass a bill that has been proven poll after poll to be highly unpopular with the American public, but I've come to believe that there's an agenda in there somewhere that they know a good portion of us would hate even more than their medical care bill.
When they grossly violate set rules of Congress using parliamentary shell games, and risk so much loss this coming November, I have to believe they're planning much bigger things before then. Shoving us further into near-bankruptcy will force de-funding of things they hate, like national security priorities. It looks like a takeover of not only medicine, but of other things once they set a precedent.
Their behavior seems so irrational and bizarre, and I don't think most of them are completely irrational and bizarre, that I get very queasy at what may come following this takeover of 1/6 of our economy.
This "Change" Barry touted so much in his campaign is beginning to look something like a coup d' etat to overturn the fundamentals of the Constitution.
I agree totally with you. There will no way it will be repealed…and it will hang out their in limbo moving through the court system. We are on the brink of tyranny and I pray to God we can hold it back and keep this battle in the voting booths…
My only disappointment was his poor delivery. It appeared that he had even read it through first. I actually stopped it about 3 minutes in and let him catch his breath and catch up. It worked, kind of.
It still was a great move by the GOP. Maybe somebody actually rubbed two brain cells together with this smart move. Good luck to Senator Brown in the future. FYI suggestion…..work on your telepromter delivery or even better, through the dad blamed thing out and do it the old school, real way and speak from the heart, not the screen. We've already got a Teleprompter in Chief. We need a government for we the people, not we the media.
You can judge for yourself as the interview with Obumble and George is up on youtube.
The AP sounds more than a little miffed at Brown for winning.
Someone said maybe they should go back to paddles or rulers
A simple birth certificate would nullify Obamacare. Would probably be easier than a repeal.
You got it backwards and too many years.
It's gonna take about 10 years to undo what Bush and the republicans have left us.
Obama is off to a pretty good start. When health care reform passes watch out. I'm not sure the republicans will ever recover.
The teabaggers might just take over the GOP.
Maybe it's time we take back our government!!!
Aside from Carly, it would appear that Senator Brown has grown a "pair"… Kudos !
We have the Supreme Court for just such Constitutional (crisis) issues. I believe we have an advantage as the ObamaPOS administration has done everything to negate their power and influence as a "co-equal" branch of government. It was truly pitiful and childish what ObabaShitHead did during State of the Union Address. They will NOT forget.
If SCOTUS screws up….then the patriots will do what is necessary and that will be the end of Obama and his crew.
The AP sucks. An attempt to "blame" Scott Brown for the failure of healthcare legislation falls flat on it's face.
I suppose they just don't get it. NO ONE WANTS HEALTHCARE TO PASS!!
Interesting side note: The AP called the Texas State Schoolboard "ultraconservative" in a lame try to paint the Board as extremists because of their decision to actually use factually correct, non-revisionist texts in their public education system.Hmm, how's Texas this time of year, Texas Rancher, Cowboy, Cornpone? ;^)

You nailed it Scott. Thank God we don't have to listen to the Chappaquiddick Oldsmobile u-boat commander any more.

you rang Hanzo ? "how's Texas this time of year"? Well, it's a mighty big area to cover, but here
on the Hi-Plains, we had a beautiful Saturday, temp maxed out around 75, tomorrow in the hi
60's, however Monday 47 degrees/ cloudy, 70% chance of rain. Don't ever ask a farmer or rancher
about the weather, if you don't have 15 minutes to listen to the reply. We're always well informed
on that subject.
I for one, am proud of our Texas State School Board, for their resistance to the changes the Liberal
members were seeking. There will be another meeting in May, so I'm sure those same folks will
be at it again, as they never quit. Incremental insurrection is their MO. These people who refuse to
assimilate are apt to be a continual problem here in the Lone Star State. Hope we don't come to
blows over their attempts to revise history.
"Don't ever ask a farmer or rancher about the weather unless….". *Chuckles*. I'm thinking about leaving the Midwest. I lived in Oregon for a while, now it's probably the most liberal State in the Union.Minnesota was too damn cold in the Winter.Florida too damn hot in the Summer. Texas is soundin' better all the time!
What kind of crops do you raise in Texas,CP? Need anymore crazy conservative types down there? ;^)
+Hanzo+
At least he's not Lindsey "Graham the cracker", that guy really sucks rotten hot dogs!
Cowboy Logic
Now you have gone and done it Cowboy! You let the cat out of the bag.
It may be at a great cost to take it back….I would like to think we had some recourse without violence. This one thing I know, we as a people are very resilient and capable whatever it takes if we are pushed against a wall….
With the man-child's actions towards the SCOTUS…no telling how far he will push this country. He has divided us so deeply, not since the Civil War has there been such division. I would like to think we would be able to impeach this man when the powers turn in November. He has done nothing but destroy our constitution and he took an oath to uphold it….
I hope this can be stopped. My fear is that it will take 50 years to undo the damage this administration will do over the next 3 years.
If he is than all is lost
always room for more conservatives Hanzo. In the Hi-Plains we get hot, but unlike Fla
no humidity, & we cool off to around 60/65 degrees at night even in July & August thus
our climate resembles that of the high-desert. All the major metropolitan areas are in
high humidity zones, except ElPaso. I'm sure you are aware of the border area dangers.
You can draw a vertical line through the state continuing the east state line of the Panhandle
straight south to the border. Anything west of that line is sparsely populated & low humidity.
In the Northern Panhandle, around Dalhart, they raise a lot of corn & wheat. Around Amarillo, it's
mostly wheat & cattle raising area. Further south, between Amarillo & Lubbock is corn & wheat
territory & then cotton growing area north & south of Lubbock, all the way down to San Angelo.
Mixed in with all this farming are mucho cattle operations of varying size & type & of course small
pockets of oil production sprinkled through-out. T M I ???
You're right, but I've been noticing a lot of conservatives seem to be afraid to be too forceful,
or to use the right words…This afternoon I had a talk show on, and one of the callers said
while on Stephanopolous' show Obumble said something about his Muslim faith, and George S.
interrupted rather quickly and said, "you mean Christian faith", and Obumble answered, yes,
that's right, my Christian faith….(I remember the incident.) This conservative talk show host said to
the caller, "he, (Obumble) misspoke"….Now who would buy that he misspoke??..If you are a Christian
or Jewish, or Buddhist, how can you mis-speak and say you're Muslim, just won't happen unless you
are a real imbicile!!…The talk show host was afraid to say anything about Obumble just might be a
Muslim….Unfortunately, too many conservatives are like that, and until they learn to fight fire with fire
we're in trouble…..
None of it will matter if the Dems use any of the unConstitutional endarounds they are currently pondering. Essentially, they'll set a precedent that guts our representative form of government and the era of tyranny will officially begin. It will provoke a Constitutional crisis and I worry about the outcome.
I actually called into Mass, from Cali. promoting Brown, convincing as many people as possible that would listen to the Patriot's advice. That's what this effort takes. Pick up the phone and influence people in important elections.
I truly believe that once the admin. gets off this kick, the economy will start to kick in to gear a little.
Do you think they even know how to shoot one? It is very interesting they are buying guns though…mighty peculiar.
I took it as a subtle Obama jab / inside joke based on 'bitter clingers'.
This bill is going to pass by fiat, Obama's. The groundwork for the impeachment is already underway.

Best response I've heard yet!!… I might borrow it for future references….:)
Patriot Sam Adams said "The mob,the herd, the rabble as the GREAT always delight to call them, were entitled to political rights as were kings and Nobles. The GREAT Democrats basically are looking at Americans as rabble and the mob. THEY know better than the mob. Watch your freedoms disappear with this bill.
I also feel Texas is a great place (always has been, we're just actually seeing it now). Texans show such pride in America, and they seem to feel that is you disagree/get out. Was watching Beck the other night, most people may now know that the Government is "taking over acres and acres of land", he gave the percentages of land taken by state, and Texas was 2%..Because they won't allow anyone to take it. I am in Ohio and would relocate there in a second. Oh and I can't leave w/o showing my pride and glee that Ohio is RID OF ACORN. All of the states need to folow along…..Please
Sounds good, cp. No, not tmi.Thanks. +Hanzo+

Obamacare will cause the loss of another million jobs, mostly high-paying ones, if it passes. Who will finance this socialization of American health care if so few are working. This is a house-of-cards waiting to fall. On my web site, http://www.gorillamedicalsales.com , a popular job board for jobs in medical sales, we have seen a dramatic decrease in the number of new medical sales jobs as companies await Obamacare.
God help us, indeed, rckmom!
I moved to Texas from Ohio last year. These things used to be just personal career decisions but Obama helped make it almost entirely a political one.
Exactly. The government needs to move aside, out of the way completely, and let we, the people take care of business.
We know you meant to say 'rare' ;- )
You got it, Professor. And we can guess rightly that 'overturning the fundamentals of the Constitution' is only the beginning of what they're up to–
The democrats are Marxists now. Nationalization, central planning and it's all there.
If they do then that is a repeal of the 10th amendment.
