Stop the Madness! Stop the Corker Bank Bailout Sellout
by Jim HoftDo Republicans Not Get It? Did they not pay attention to the thousands of tea parties this past year? Did they not see the hundreds of thousands of tea party protesters across the nation? Did they miss the million protesters who marched down the streets of Washington DC on September 12th?

Are the Republicans really that blind? Do they Not Care? Even awful Speaker Pelosi is warming up to the Nazis tea party protesters.
After all of the posturing and preening and shouting and yelling and marching and tea party protesting, America is about to get the whole Democrat agenda shoved down our collective throat. Barack Obama announced today that Democrats are going to use reconciliation to jam Obamacare through Congress and essentially nationalize one-sixth of the US economy. And now, Republicans are about to offer them the rest of the American economy on a silver platter thanks to Senator Bob Corker. Congress is currently working to create a whole new consumer protection division within the Federal Reserve. This new division will give the Fed more power and focus on consumer protection. And, a Republican, Bob Corker, is for some reason leading the charge to create this whole new bureaucracy. The Wall Street Journal reported:
Several senior Republicans have joined negotiations with Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd (D., Conn.) over how to construct consumer-protection rules, potentially bringing more Republican votes to a broader revamp of finance rules—if Democrats can stomach more concessions.
“We’re very, very, very close to a deal,” Sen. Bob Corker (R., Tenn.) said in an interview.
The development came after a closed door meeting Tuesday night between Mr. Corker and Sens. Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.), Richard Shelby (R., Ala.), Judd Gregg (R., N.H.), and Mike Crapo (R., Idaho).
The meeting was called after a Wall Street Journal story Tuesday said Messrs. Corker and Dodd were near an agreement on a compromise to create a new consumer protection division within the Federal Reserve…
…On Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and White House senior advisor Valerie Jarrett met with consumer and public interest groups and said new consumer protection rules would be formidable.
At the meeting, Mr. Geithner said it was an “empty argument” that safety and soundness regulation couldn’t be separated from consumer protection, someone familiar with the meeting said. Treasury officials also said they would only support new rules if the agency had an independent leadership, budget and decision making powers, and the power to set rules and enforce them.
Grassroots conservatives are rightly up in arms over Senator Corker’s game of footsie with far left Democrat Chris Dodd on President Obama’s effort to impose a massive new regulatory scheme on America’s economy. Dodd, of course, is one of the architects of the current financial crisis. His decades long support of ACORN, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Community Reinvestment Act should have disqualified him from these negotiations in the first place. But, this is Washington, after all, and apparently Bailout Bob was willing to look the other way and turn the other cheek.
This was even after the House of Representatives passed a similar bill in December, but it received no Republican votes. Close to two dozen Democrats voted against it.
The House passed financial reform bill, crafted by none other than Barney Frank (D-MA) contained a permanent bailout fund for banks and Wall Street firms and created a new agency of government that would be allowed to regulate any and all business in America. It received no Republican votes and close to two dozen democrats opposed the legislation. But, it is alive today thanks to Bob Corker.
The ironically named Consumer Financial Protection Agency will pile a new bureaucracy on top of an existing bureaucracy. It will spend hundreds of millions of dollars imposing job killing regulations on small business. It will have the power to strip consumers of their freedoms and restrict credit opportunities for small business. And, there’s more. Also tucked in the bill is a clause that gives the Federal Reserve the authority to bailout businesses to the tune of an astonishing $4 trillion.
The bill seemed to be dead until Corker decided to grab favorable headlines from the New York Times. According to news reports, Corker’s solution to the problem is to move the new regulatory agency to the Federal Reserve as opposed to leaving it a stand alone agency. Corker is misleading his colleagues and the public by telling them that this will some how save money.
Let’s be clear, the bill contains bailouts for big banks and Wall Street firms and new red tape nightmares for main street businesses. What difference does the location of this new uber-regulatory bureaucracy make? The only thing this bill will save is jobs, paychecks, yachts and third vacation homes for Wall Street bankers and irresponsible CEOs.
The fact is we need to reduce the size and scope of government not allow a government takeover of the financial sector of the economy.
The word from the halls of the Capital is Corker is still trying to cut a deal. But, honestly, what can conservatives possibly get from such a deal? If you strip out the bailouts and the new Washington bureaucracies and regulations, there is nothing left. So, any deal will be a bad one. A quick look at Corker’s financial contributors leaves one wondering whether Corker supports Wall Street more than Main Street. He is giving those at the top a handout while giving the middle class the bill. And as far as the tea party movement. Corker will forfeit any political ground conservatives have gained back recently.
Call Bob Corker and tell him to Stop the Madness. (202) 224-3344

Corker is a good man…
One suspects he sees something coming anyway- and is trying to mitigate the damage, perhaps make whatever legislation amendable. THAT makes sense.
But call him nonetheless…
"America is about to get the whole Democrat agenda shoved down our collective throat."
Rahm it down our throat in March,
we'll shove it up your ass in November.
Madness indeed.
Excellent!!!
"…Geithner said it was an “empty argument” that safety and soundness regulation couldn’t be separated from consumer protection…"
And there is a bridge in Brooklyn for sale. Corker, a RINO by any other name for pushing this. November approacheth…
Stop the Madness?
Perhaps we need a mascot.
Where is that angry, blonde headed woman with the buzz cut, who used to jump around screaming "Stop the Madnes" about ten or so years ago? Maybe she needs a new career, a job created or saved………..
Remember when Reagan passed the largest middle class tax cut in American history ($288 billion)?
No, wait- it was Obama, as this Christian Community blog says:
http://blog.beliefnet.com/stevenwaldman/2009/02/i...
We are heading for a fall in this country like nothing we have ever seen…
Maybe he is putting together a "bribery" case (ala Giles & O'Keefe)? If not, tar and feather this putz
Still can't believe Corker is doing this, he's a free market businessman. Makes me wonder…. what is coming down the pike that would make him get on board something like this? Money for him? Collapse? Probably both.
Buy a little farm and keep your 2nd amendments. A 4 trillion dollar economic pile up is no fender bender.
.
Soft headed weak kneed GOP types once again snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
The "Corker" crew needs to be run out of town on a rail this november.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Yertle: (Now Mr. Corker)
I am concerned that the manner in which the federal government is operating is eerily like how the Krupps munitions factory was still billing the Nazi’s – after Hitler committed suicide. Benjamin Franklin once remarked that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing, and expecting different results. The congress has passed bailouts, and rescues, and soon a, stimulus package, all in an empty effort to save the Republic from the financial malfeasance of governments small and large. If they failed to work in the past what reason do you believe that they will work in the future? It appears to me that the solution is obvious. Forgetting financial reality for a moment. In a given year the US economy generates 10 to 15 trillion dollars. I say why wait for the year to pass. Next time all of you are at your respective posts pass a bill to print $12.5 Trillion and disperse it. At least that way we will all know who is getting the money.
Obviously, however enticing, this idea is absurd. Is it any more so than one insolvent institution, the US Government ($2 Trillion running deficit, $12 Trillion in debt), giving another insolvent institution, US Banks(Bloomberg news service reports $4-$5 Trillion required to re-capitalize them, at the current rate of loss), money it does not have anything to back it other than more debt, and a beaten up taxpayer? With ink so fresh on the bonds that the Communist Chinese government has yet to collect the interest on it? I fail to see the wisdom in how creating a smaller hole in one spot, and a bigger hole in another will ever do any of us any good. This philosophy has not worked in the past and it will not work in the future. The evil economic stew we are cooking has been brewed before, and it will taste just as bitter this time.
When Ronald Reagan took the reigns of this nation in 1981 we were in far worse shape than we are in today, a large portion of our military qualified for poverty assistance, a business owner could not breathe without the governments permission, inflation was sky high, unemployment at double digits. Unless we do the right thing now we will be there again, rapidly. Our economic problems today are manufactured by our own fiscal malfeasance – there is no shortage of food, energy, labor, or capital. What we have too much of is the heavy hand of government deciding who gets what, how much, and when via a complex set of regulations and tax policy. President Reagan, to the largest extent possible, ended that madness, and while the 80’s were no picnic, that decade created 20,000,000 new jobs, strengthened this nation so we could carry on in the future, and we brought most of the world with us as a lucky strike extra. The economic lesson of the 80’s is that freedom and economic liberty are viral, and the only antidote for it is big government – this is something we have forgotten or chosen to ignore. Up to now President Obamas rhetoric has been the antithesis of this pro growth philosophy. Mr. Obama thinks that a combination of targeted tax cuts, welfare, and government make work projects are the cure for our ills. To do this Mr. Obama will need more bureaucrats, and add more legal and fiscal complexity to meet his goals. I reject this economic cure and its implementation. Remember, what the government gives to one it must take from another. How does the government know that the capital or wealth it is redistributing will not be used for a much wiser purpose then the one it has ordained? It doesn’t. Like an alcoholic in a bar, the government drinks without accountability, and spends the monthly mortgage payment on whiskey without forethought, and hurts everyone it claims to care about. Remember these thoughts as you create the next seemingly free government give away; someone has to pay for it, that someone will be our children, their payment will either be in gold or blood.
This insanity of printing, borrowing, and misallocation of capital must stop. No country on earth has ever borrowed, spent or taxed it’s way to recovery, let alone prosperity. War and Depression? Absolutely. If this economic cancer is allowed to metastasize we will once again be pushed as a nation into a choice of not whether we should or should not do something, but whether or not we can. The “stimulus package” legislation all of you are considering is nothing more than economic suicide.
Respectfully,
You should changed the date- it might make your letter look loony.
The date says it all.
Well, I don't get it then. On January 20, 2008, Bush was still President.
I'll be voting the fresh, clean slate come November. The current group of politicians on each side has acquired a terminal cases of Potomac fever.

I talked to my broker yeaterday, and asked him what I should be buying. he said "guns and ammo."
Reminds me of Lindsey Graham and Arlen Spinchter.
"The fact is we need to reduce the size and scope of government not allow a government takeover of the financial sector of the economy."
Absolutely right! The first step in that happening is seeing a positive Privileges or Immunities decision coming out of the Supreme Court in McDonald versus Chicago. Overturning Slaughter-House Cases jurisprudence is paramount to regaining our economic Freedom from the grips of government.
It matters not how you feel about firearms. If you want to end this government takeover of the financial sector, and with it any sense of freedom we have left, you will demand that SCOTUS decide in favor of Privileges or Immunities incorporation of the Second Amendment.
Sure, a Due Process incorporation will unlock some gun Liberties but a Privileges or Immunities incorporation unlocks so many others. Economic freedom especially.
Between now and June, when the decision is to be delivered, the people have a chance to influence the Court's decision. The question is will the people stand up or will they just wait for someone else to do it?

Wow, I am in awe, you linked to an Obama Zombie blog, and they are … DRUMROLL …. Praising Obama!
Tiny here does not seem to understand the difference between tax reduction and tax handout, so let's educate him. Reduction means you get to keep what you earned, handout means getting something you didn’t.
This "Massive" tax credit is a handout program over two years that increases take home pay for the lower classes, you know people that really get it all back at the end of the year anyway, worst case they get a little less back but they never pay anything in.
Now what does this add up to? Well food and energy under the Obama regime is up about 16%, but I am sure that post adjusted $9 a week raise (about 0.7% increase) for a family of four making less than 40K per year is really saving their bacon.
With a leader like this we should be about in the same boat as Zimbabwe by the end of 2011.
Soviet Union circa 1989
Excellent video!
"Ideas that actually work"? Now there is a novel idea.
He's a PUTZ! Corker should be IMPEACHED, or RECALLED! Something! Throw that no good BUM outta there!
I can't believe Tennessee isn't up in arms over their Senator!
It's not an "an Obama Zombie blog". Until you acknowledge the legitimacy of the right-wing blog that is Beliefnet.com, I am not going to respond to anything else you write.
OK, I give up. What message does the date convey?
Call your Senators if they are involved in this, and give them h—, but
don't forget to call your Congressmen and remind them not to vote
for that Deathcare bill…………..I think it's important to keep reminding
the Congress,,,Obumble is giving out "favors" to a lot of these Congressmen
to vote for his pile of s–t,………….Call them, e-mail them, go to their local
offices…do whatever is necessary for the next week or so…..
"Do Republicans Not Get It? Did they not pay attention to the thousands of tea parties this past year? Did they not see the hundreds of thousands of tea party protesters across the nation? Did they miss the million protesters who marched down the streets of Washington DC on September 12th?"
They get it. They were attentive and they saw us. They didn't miss us at all. They. Just. Don't. Care. This out of control CONgress is not a new development. It's been building for years. They are just emboldened and underestimating We the People. November can't some soon enough. I've got a case of popcorn waiting because once it does, it will be my pleasure to watch ObaMao meltdown in front of the whole country. He thinks it's bad now. You just wait. We need people in these positions that will not cave to bribes and bomb threats. His only weapon of choice is to bribe and threaten. It can't go on like this. Something has to break. And it won't be the tea party people, I can guarantee you that. Things they are a changin' and not the way he wants it to. It's not his country, it's ours and we're coming, Washington. And we're pissed.

The same thing was going on then that was exposed later. I call it the greatest con game ever run in the history of mankind – and no one is able to end it. Bunning took one small shot, but we need 20 "Bunning's" to put it to an end to it once and for all.
Lemme get this straight, the Federal Reserve won't let anyone on the outside see their books, and we're going to create a new division for them with a bill sponsored by Chris Dodd?
April Fool's Day is a month away… stop messin' with me!
Exactly…I hope the final outcome will be our nation restructuring itself to the original intent of the constitution….
This is called a double-cross. Standard operating political procedure in Washington.
Corker is a good man? Apparently Mr. Corker begs to differ.
I am afraid it is already "game over. I commend the book "Aftershock" to you. Premise is that our economy has been based on 6 conjoined bubbles. 4 have alreayd burst, including real estate and stock bubbles. Last two to go are dollar bubble and government debt bubble. So it doesn't matter who wins in 2010 or 2012. There is no way to re-inflate these bubbles ( typical political short term solution) and so its baked into the pie. There will be a global depression and massive restructuring. There has to be. Our tax revenues never exceed $2.5 trillion in a good year. We cannot pay our debt back. pretty soon foreign investors get out of delusion mode on that simple fact and its over. So, maybe the real game here is what kind of restructuring and to gear up to make sure it reverts to the Constitutional and limited government priciples of founding.
I called Corker's office. They claim that "they don't know where this article came from." They say Corker is totally against the CFPA. He's totally against bailouts. I suggested they ask him to put out something to his constituents that would explain how he is being painted "unfairly."
Not sure what to think at this point about ol' Bob. He sure isn't the conservative he claimed to be at a GOP picnic when he begged for my vote. Unfortunately, he's not up for re-election in Nov. or I'd boot him.
I totally agree with you…I just hope we have enough time to get prepared…I am almost there…I especially love your comment, "maybe the real game here is what kind of restructuring and to gear up to make sure it reverts to the Constitutional and limited government priciples of founding." My husband is very hopeful, being the eternal optimist, we will restructure to the Constitution and limited government principles…me on the other hand worries about the bloodshed it may require.
OH LORD — Everyone just do what I did and tiny will leave the building!
Don't make promises you know you can't keep tiny.
I don't think I have posted any links for Beliefnet.com have I?
If not then why would I have to defend the content of that site before pointing out the slant of the site you troll from?
Get back on the meds tiny, maybe then you will have a point to make.
So right you are – it's bubbling and ready to boil over.
I've been doing my part to calm people down at the local gun range, explaining to them that violence will not bring about their goal, I know they are just popping off but when 30 guys and gals sit around talking about revolt – it's a little disconcerting, no one has crossed the line all the same I'm praying everyone waits until November.
I could not agree with you more.
Sometimes, I think all it will take is the right amount of alcohol………….
To think past that is scary.
Amen to that!!
That's why 90-odd million Americans have been investing in precious metals the last couple of years. The value of brass and lead has gone up considerably. Let's just hope we don't need those investments and can laugh at ourselves after the fact.
Susan Powter:

I always close one of these with "Remember the liberal wants chaos, do not give it to them, we must be the control." They usually give me the fortune cookie look and then they go "oh yeah you are not as stupid as you look" – be advised if they take away the ballot box, come for my gun, or harm my family – I'm on their side.
I would gladly have a good laugh at my investing in gold ETFs if that is the price of avoiding collapse. It is kind of a no lose investment looked at that way.
hE IS A BUM….THROW HIM OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wouldn't draw too much of a conclusion from the contributors- a who's who of businesses that contribute to many. Still, the proof is in the pudding.
We shall see…
Was that her name, Susan Powter?
I just remember she was muy loco and had one of those roached butchy hairdoos.
Well, if the left has a crazy lady as in Madame Pelosi as a mascott, we need one of our own that is just as crazy………
Come on Tennessee………Let this guy know his job is on the line………………
Reublicans should be letting this guy know this is not exceptable!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This must not happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also just called Corkers office and was told that this article is completely false. They say that is against bank bailouts and against any new regulations agency. I asked the staffer why he doesn't set the record straight (I am in TN and have met him on several occasions) She claims that the false info has only been out for about 24hours. Now, I'm not saying I believe Sen. Corker – as we all know he is a 1/2 RINO – but I'd sure like to get the facts on this. She also said that there is no bill, nothing for anyone to read and they don't have an ETA of when a bill will be completed and released.
That deathcare bill would sting. LOL!
we feel your pain…
And undoubtedly Corker will feel the voter's wrath- Tennessee is conservative state- if he does anything nefarious. Our experience with him and his record has been positive.
So far…
Hello! Democrats are most of the progressives, but not all of Democrats are progressives! Republicans mostly are not progressives, but some of them are! We have to "weed-out" the progressives(Marxist) from both parties because Marxism is an act of Treason! When obama said that he wanted to fundamentally transform America that was an act of treason! He got a free pass on that! Can you imagine if he were a Republican President and said that! Nonetheless, Marxism is treason against our Republic and the progressives are getting a free pass! Now, That is scary!
I disagree with your description of Ms. Pelosi. "Even awful Speaker Pelosi is warming up to the Nazis tea party protesters." There is nothing that can thaw that iceburg.
Control for controls sake….Why do we need one meglomaniac when we can have 435 of them!!All the little despots need their egos stroked and their friends employed…
we are up in arms here in Tennessee about ole Bob's slight of hand. He'd better get this straight with the home crowd or he'll get the same treatment Bart Gordon got last summer on recess.
Thanks for the reading suggestion, I think I will order it this afternoon. I would love it if buying gold ended up just being folly….at least I can sleep at night knowing I have some insurance. Seeds might also be as valuable…
I'm a fan of John Galt fan as well. Will that help me any? I am from Dallas, TX Born and raised. I cannot help that. You know people are who they are from where they come from. I am sure the same applies to you as well. Please, find some compassion for me.
Anybody wanna bet that Corker is looking for a sweetheart mortgage loan?
There is no better way to get one than to cozy-up to the self-serving master of finance-industry gifts, countrywide-dodd. Why else would ANYBODY deal with that unethical reprobate?
The simple fact is its a one party system. Even most of the well know talk show host try to talk down any mention of a third party. This one party system ( Dems vs Reps) has always been used to keep the people at odds with each other over trivial BS while they plan out our demise. Any talk on the right during the so called health care summit about the fact that the federal government has no power to mandate anything? Its like i said to my mom the other day. If we both went across the bay to the eastern shore and she took the interstate, and i took the causeway it doesn't matter because both routes lead to the same place. Its the same with the so called two party system. Both have the same final agenda( bringing you into the world government system) just different ways of getting there. You have to stop putting these two parties into power or the final destination is the same.Checkmate.You loose………
I gave up trying to call him at that number (always busy) and emailed him instead. Everybody that has responded to this article should take the time out to do the same! Email address available at his website.
Yeah, let's create a vast new bureaucracy that will grant even more power to the already unaccountable Fed. This will end well.
Gentle Readers,
Dear twinespc,
While in normative terms the tax relief under Pres. Obama is greater than under Reagan, you fail to consider;
#1: the relative size of the tax relief to GDP, under Pres. Reagan it was 8% of GDP, under Pres. Obama it is less than 2%: 4X greater under Pres. Reagan, and
#2. Pres. Obama is allowing the Bush Tax Cuts to expire and has a raft of new taxes & fees planned for Medical Care, carbon taxes, etc. which will fall primarily onto middle class Americans, and
#3. The Reagan tax cuts were substantive and permanent whereas the Obama
tax relief is far less than the programmed increases and temporary.
– Kindest Regards to all, John Lepant
From Instpundit: "CORKER KERFUFFLE: Just got this email from Laura Herzog in Bob Corker’s office: There’s a lot of bad information floating around. Senator Corker is NOT working on legislation with Congressman Frank, and he does NOT support the bill the House of Representatives passed last year. Sen. Corker’s proposal would NOT provide $4 trillion to bail out Wall Street. For nearly a year, Senator Corker has been working to end the notion that any company is “too big to fail.” His premise is that if a company fails, it should fail and not be propped up by taxpayers. The bill is still being crafted in the Senate, but please know the substance will be very different than the House bill." Hope this is right … I sure admired Sen Corker and would be pretty shocked if this wasn't right. But I guess we'll see.

The proposed constitutional amendment proposed by Pence is just as false as the Corker logic. The republican’s are returning to their get along attitude that destroyed them in the eyes of the fiscal conservatives. Be wary of the constitutional amendment being peddled by republicans currently. They need to strengthen the language so it does not allow wiggle room for deal making. Stick to a solid 1/5 GDP rule.
Return to reality, language is the key.
This is not a real amendment to control spending. It simply does away with the reconciliation procedure and places the two-thirds rule on the house. This is essentially status quo.
SECTION 1. Total annual outlays shall not exceed one-fifth of economic output of the United States of America, unless two-thirds of each House of Congress shall provide for a specific increase of outlays above this amount. (This is unacceptable)
I agree with the War exclusion but the two thirds element allows for further abuse. A hard one-fifth limiting amendment will force the political class to make the hard decisions necessary to control spending.
The government should not be in the banking business. Conversion of the assets of the United States and its citizens from real property to paper assets has left us in economic ruin and we've allowed a private organization to buy, sell and print our currency.
Corker should be looking to rid ourselves of the Fed, not strengthen it.
until you stop putting garbage kinks like you this and your favorite, media matters, you will continue to be seen as the pathetic little nitwit you are…
Besides, we need you to tell your boyfriend to stop spending stupid
Promise??
Promise twin??
It could get very ugly. And I am sure the Marxist/Communist/ Totalitarians will be using the crisis to try to seize total control. I have faith that the country will awaken, rise up and put an end to all this crap. But it will be ugly getting there and no real change until the collapse.
Hmm… Future? We have to get there first. Thanks for the link, it was pretty good.
"b from big d"? Please don't tell me you're a Cowboys fan! I won't be able to read anymore of your posts!
No Mr. Hoft, you and you're 300 obedient followers don't get it. 60,000 tea-partiers in Washington don't get it neither. You're NOT a majority. Elections HAVE consequences. The MAJORITY of Americans ELECTED these people to do a job. The democratic ELECTION process PROTECTED by the CONSTITUTION has give these people the power to pass legislation based on the will of VOTERS and not a group of whiners bitching in the streets. This is AMERICA Kim Jung Hoft.
Win elections = make changes
Win elections = pass legislation
Win elections = the will of the people
Now those 60,000 angry retards in Washington start winning elections and you can give us eight more years of Socialist policies like you did under George W. Bush. Until then, try reading the Constitution Chairman Mao-Hoft (if you can).
Vote them ALL out in the next election each of them runs in. NO INCUMBANTS! the Republicans have not learned their lesson and, if put back in power, will do the same things the Democrats do, but probably to a SLIGHTLY lesser degree. I say we replace ALL of them and then watch the "newbies" to see if they fall into the same stupor the current crop of weasels are in. Any "newbie" acting like they know it all and don't work for US will be shown the door immediately, thru recall or impeachment, as appropriate. (My apologies to weasels for the insult.)
