Liveblogging Tea Party Nation: Smart Girl Politics
by Jim HoftSmart Girl Politics led a breakout session this morning on “Conducting a Voter Registration Drive.” One of Smart Girl Politics goals is to focus on educating conservative women. As part of that goal, SGP members members Michelle Moore (r) and Bridget Blanton led the meeting.
Michelle Moore, SGP Director of Technology, and Bridget Blanton, SGP National Voter Registration Coordinator, led the training session at the event focusing on Women in Politics and Voter Registration. Michelle Moore will be tweeting the conference this weekend. The Smart Girls give a voice to smart, strong, well-informed conservative women. The Smart Girls are the women who will take back this country.
Smart Girl Politics is committed to providing a conservative community for women to express their opinions and ideas in an open and welcoming environment. SGP is dedicated to reaching out into the community to engage, educate, and empower conservative women to take a more active role in politics. And finally, we will debate and develop clear positions that encourage conservative activism in order to counter the negative activity of popular culture that is often found in the main stream media.
Michelle opened up the session and was terrific. She made St. Louis proud. Michelle said she found a home in Smart Girl Politics. She says she is inspired and empowered by the strong women of this movement.
Bridget Blanton stressed that to build on the success of the recent conservative wins in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts voter registration and get out the vote efforts will be critical in this year’s elections. We need to get people registered and out to the polls. We need people on the ground. We need a consistent voter registration in each community to promote your group, tea party and increase the number of local supporters. A positive message of freedom and limited government led to the wins in recent months. We must be courageous and stand up for what we believe and we can do this with voter registration. It is important for conservatives to get active today. Bridget has been registering voters for years and knows how it is done. She has spent hours and hours out attending community events in California signing up voters. Bridget is a real conservative hero.

They really need to pick up the social networking of the event, because many folks around the country feel lonely and used. I understand that the politicians can't wait to take pictures with tea party leaders on fancy fundraisers, but that may backlash. Tea party is no party and the republicans will have to work hard to get their vote. One convention cannot turn the tea movement into a conventional party, because everyone is a leader. It is the opposite of collectivism – it is the individualism that is driving it.
Where can we find out how to do this and get organized in our local areas?
Here's where to start:
http://smartgirlpolitics.ning.com/
This is exactly the kind of actions that all women and men should be taking. Not only are we (as a society) going to have to re-educate the majority of the voting public, we also will need to have a personal stake in all of this for it to have any teeth. Ellie posted above, "everyone is a leader", and that couldn't be more true! And this is also why I firmly believe that we are wasting our energy on trying to solidify a new political party, in order to justify how cohesive the "Tea Party" movement has been thus far. If every one is a champion of their own cause, and that cause is to explicitly adhere to the Constitution, and Declaration of Independence, to be fiscally responsible at all times, to put the will of the people first, and to assume accountability for every action taken as an elected official…And if we get enough people that share this cause, and continue to be their own champions of that cause…BIG things can and will happen! Just never forget that it's ultimately in our hands. The ball is in their court, and we have possession. But we have to focus like the game is never going to end, we can't grow tired ever when it comes to defending our FREEDOM…!
Conservative women. That one always gets me.
If conservatives had had their way women would still be denied the right to vote.
God you people are stupid.
Perfect example is Sarah Palin, keynote speaker at the convention, endorsing the Rhino McCain. Unless she retracts her support, I will not support her anymore. This is exactly what we don't need-leaders. This convention gives me concern about our future effectiveness.
You get it Ellie…!
If the liberals had their way – you may have been aborted.
I say half the people who voted in 2008 shouldn't have been able to vote! If you don't know what you're voting for don't vote! Every American should have to read and understand the constitution before they are aloud to vote. If that happened our country wouldn't be run by a bunch of progressives!
Sometimes things just don't turn out right, do they? lol!
Great post, jharp. You are still offering absolutely nothing of value, truth or substance, which is directly in
keeping with the liberal policy of "FAIL WHENEVER POSSIBLE".
Keep on staying "Threat Level Zero"!
I never thought I'd see my nation's citizens lose there morals so fast. These attacks on Sarah Palin come from Right anf Left. I'm saddened to see her get trashed so easily. She "must to support everone's favorite candidate". She has to live up to some imaginative figure to EVERYBODY. Mrs Palin is a great example of the salt of the earth for which God is capable of. I never expect mrs Palin to live up to anything but what's important her's and her families lives. Huffington/Hotair? Same thing! Oh, and I just love the pundits who can't even find a matching pair of socks, judge Sarah Palin.
Having a great time here in Nashville.God bless america
Keep up the good work ladies, real America is watching!
There is this mindset that liberals have. They have been taught to believe they are the only ones who are intelligent. What has liberalism EVER done that was good long-term? Has liberalism/progressivism ever produced anything that promotes or strengthens the INDIVIDUAL? If liberals had their way, we would all be collectivists, who would all think alike. They think the State should have all the power and rule over everyone. This is what passes for intelligence with many liberals. I don't say all, because I don't know where all of them stand.
"Has liberalism/progressivism ever produced anything that promotes or strengthens the INDIVIDUAL?"
Yes, you moron. Read my post.
Liberals fought and won for the right to vote for women.
God you people are stupid.
What are you talking about. The fact that the Tea Party doesn't want to be hijacked by elite Republicans? This only strengthens my opinion of the movement. We The People should be doing the organizing and promoting of this movement. That's how it started, and that's how it should proceed. The Republican base seems to already be pushing Palin for president in the future. They have already started planting seeds in that direction. It's the same old same old. They don't think we have enough sense to think for ourselves, either. Rush Limbaugh is a prime example.
I so agree with you. She better lose McCain and fast no matter what their personal relationship. He has served this country but his Feingold bill with counsel and finacial support from Soros has me spewing smoke out of my ears. Maybe someone should write her and tell her this. She is obviously "oblivious" to the fact.
I totally agree, Kat. It will be the same old thing if the Tea Party gets hijacked by these neocons and rhinos. Some of them want to use Tea Party people like the Democrats use blacks and Latinos. We are just a vote to them.
Yeah, we are stupid for putting up with your moronic drivel and name calling. Maybe you should just get off the computer and go do some liberal thing like beating someone up in a wheelchair or something.
I hope this Tea Party convention does not come back to bite the real grassroots in the arse. The whole thing was so questionable, with the legitimate groups backing out.
"Yeah, we are stupid for putting up with your moronic drivel and name calling."
You're half way there by at least admitting you are stupid. Wrong reason though.
You are stupid because you vote against your own best interest and can't tell the difference.
I am seriously considering doing work for SEIU and ACORN. Someone's got to stand up against you knuckledragging neanderthal troglodyte morons.
"Keep your government hands off my Medicare"!
Are the teabaggers strategizing their health care reform proposal?
So far they've done a bang up job of preserving American's right to pay 3 times what the rest of world pays. For the same level of care. And the right for American's to go bankrupt due to illness.
And you wonder why you are perceived as the ignoramuses that you are.
Voting against your own best interest and too damn dumb to know the difference. Mega dittos.
jharp…
If everyone voted for what was in our own "best interest" then I would vote for you to be denied all government assistance and your portion be given to a more worthy cause…
That would be ME.
Now that's real democracy.
How old are you? You act like a child.
There were conservatives involved in women's suffrage, even going back to Susan B. Anthony. However, my point was about the "individual". Not groups of people. Not the collective. I will not respond to you further, as I don't argue with children.
Wow, smart, articulate, confident, conservative good looking women. Troll heads will be exploding soon.
"If everyone voted for what was in our own "best interest" then I would vote for you to be denied all government assistance and your portion be given to a more worthy cause."
I agree. I have never taken a dime nor do I intend to. Or better put, I pay in way way more than I take out.
While we're at it let's end the church's free government handouts. If the church wants police and fire protection services let them pay for it. Just like everyone else.
Kinda funny how wingnut welfare seems OK with you jackasses.
"How old are you? "
"There were conservatives involved in women's suffrage, even going back to Susan B. Anthony."
No doubt about it. They fought against it. That was exactly my point.
I'm 49 and have worked for myself my entire life. I'm what you call an entrepreneur. A job creator. The backbone of the American economy.
I second that!
Skipping school again, eh harpo?
that was a big help
taking your argument and turning on it's head doesn't seem to be the right answer here…
So let me ask a more direct question.
What should we the people vote for that might be in our best interest?
And according to jharp, they are the ones who are civil and the "teabaggers" are the wingnuts!! Please read your own post and explain to me why you have to attack and consider everyone who doesn't think as you do as ignorant and dumb. I hold no qualms with those who have different opinions than mine. The first amendment gives every CITIZEN (and I do mean CITIZEN) in this country that right. The name calling is just childish and shows your intolerance of others. I, as a conservative female, do agree that something does need to be done with the skyrocketing cost of health care. However, I believe you take it one step at a time, not entirely change the whole system.
What should we the people vote for that might be in our best interest?
Heath care reform would be a good start. We're the only ones who use the model we have today. It's 3 times as expensive for the same level of care.
Ever wonder why no one in the world, no one, uses our model?
I forgot to add. We are also the only country in the world where one can go bankrupt due to illness.
Now that is some real freedom.
If DEMOCRATS had their women wouldn't be able to vote. Look at the passage of the 19th amendment. It barely passed the Senate by a vote of 56-25 (2/3 required to pass). This is because there were 36 repubs for (8 against) while ther were only 20 Dems for the amendment (17 against). A vast majority of Republicans were for women's suffarage while the Dems were evenly split to give women the vote. Even current Dems would rather treat women as victims that need to be protected (from themselves) as opposed to equal participants and equally responsible for this nation.
Elitist douche bag.
You seem testy today. Scott Brown gotcha down, does he?
Who pays the DIFFERENCE in the medical costs in your Utopian health care reform? SOMEONE has to pay.
I have to struggle in this economy and I don't necessarily feel like paying for some layabout who's suckling off the rest of us while he sits and watches "The View" while stoned out of his trees.
Shove your health care reform, you arrogant moron. You can't make us pay for your socialist dream.
Another giant stirs. Outstanding!
"If DEMOCRATS had their women wouldn't be able to vote."
So now the redneck racist Dixiecrats were liberals? Is that what you're intimating?
God you people are stupid.
It's LIBERALS YOU IDIOT, not republicans or democrats.
So what in the currently constituted bills in the Senate or House can be construed to be "health reform"?
Those bills FORCE US Citizens (who are supposed to be free agents under the law) to purchase health insurance from "traditional" health insurance companies. These are the same insurance companies that are being blamed for the high costs of health care.
The bills also INCREASE the cost of health to seniors by reducing Medicare coverage and forcing them to buy more "gap" coverage from greedy interest groups like AARP.
Sound like our Democrat friends care more about making the big, exploitative, "capitalistic" groups richer off the backs of the common man. Proving once again that any interference in the marketplace of products and services by an "all caring" government only increases the costs and reduces the effectiveness of those products and services.
Great example of an ignorant teabagger. Thank you maladoit.
You are paying for it now in the most inefficient way on the earth,
The United States pays about $7,200 per person for health care, The rest of the world spends about 1/3 to 1/2 of that. For the same level of care.
The idea is to make the system more efficient. In line with the rest of the world.
God you people are stupid.
So what in the currently constituted bills in the Senate or House can be construed to be "health reform"?
I agree that the party of no has taken the teeth out of serious reform. Yet the exchanges to buy insurance are not that bad of a a start.
You've got some nerve. Your party does everything in it''s power to weaken reform and then bitch that the reform is too weak.
Again, God you people are stupid.

I think you are under the mistaken assumption that I want reform in the first place.
My point was to layout the hypocrisy of the leftists who have created a weak "reform" bill even though they talk a all this smack, and in spite of the fact that they don't need a single republican vote to pass their crappy bills in the first place.
It's inspiring to see people with conviction. It comes to mind that many people, who have such powerful convictions, have often been referred to as "oaks". They stand firm and resolute and they are well informed, educated and make wise decisions. On the other end of the spectrum we have ACORNs that are not so well educated and far less informed and are seemingly content to sit in the shade of the "Oaks" rather than seeking out the sun and growing roots of their own.
Have you ever been outside the US? If the level of care is the same, why do people from other countries come here to have procedures done? It was reported this week a Canadian politician came to the US for medical help. I've lived outside the US and the level of care is NOT the same. Socialized medicine in other countries (Canada, UK, and some other countries can't even be called socialized) is nothing short of rationed care. The taxes the other countries pay for their healthcare is also astonomical.
You want to call some people stupid, look in the mirror first, you moron!

Actuallly to respond to a previous poster, Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony were all Republicans as was the first female supreme court justice, Sandra Day O'Conner, as well as Martin Luther King Jr, and Jackie Robinson. Unfortunately we don't teach these things in school. The only way to save our republic is to replace congress!!!
I am glad to hear about Smart Girl Politics, but one would assume from this article that this is the only group representing conservative women. Concerned Women of America has been around for some time. Another website similar to Smart Girl Politics is the National Organization of Conservative Women at conservativewomenworking.org.
They already are Duke. See "JHarp" above…
His exploded long ago I'm afraid.
..and you're an entrepneur? of what? pimping out hitmen? I can't see you dealing with normal people because all you can say is: moron jackass stupid idiot
ALL YOU ARE IS A LIBERAL THUG…..just like the rest of them. You, lying Bertha, mafia Stern are just so suited for each other. God, I hope you don't have any children because they would be all bullies.
You don't sound well. Maybe you should see a "Corpse" Man!
How about i-caucus, http://icaucus.ning.com/, this might be a good place to start too.
You are an uninformed fool. Congress has 20 powers, the Pres has 6. None of these limiting powers has anything to do with health care, not even the elastic clause. All the powers listed in the Constitution are the ONLY powers each branch has.
And as for women voting, this was not a Rep vs Dem whatever argument. Go read something other than Howard Zinn for information on history.
Tell us, oh wise one, why is it all the health insurance companies have been exempted from anti-trust laws? Did you know this allows insurers to collude, rather than compete, and fix pricing? Furthermore why have none of the proposed bills revoked those exemptions? Tell us something else. What, if anything, has the government EVER done that you would consider efficient? What makes you believe, considering the deficit, that our government can improve the efficiency of our health care system when they can't even manage their own budget?
I see the Palin situation very differently than straight black and white. Sarah owes McCain for making her a national icon. She would have never been able to get the attention that she has earned without his endorsement. She is showing that lost American tradition of not biting the hand that helped you. Even when she disagrees with his position she will continue to support him because of the gift he gave her.
In her book she is very careful not to say anything but good things about the McCain family and specifically John. When you look at John’s military background and his time in the military, he is one of the most admirable people in the US. Then his wife who is wealthy, pretty and generous with her giving of time and money, then family is very enviable. I personally disagree with his policies but I do admire the man and his family. That is more than I can say about most of the people in Washington.
[...] actual news of the convention’s happenings I can find, it seemed like it was mostly about organizing, wack-a-doos, and red meat. And while the first and third (and not so much the second) are good [...]
Rick Perry made a commitment towards a 10th Amendment move away from Federal dominance of Texas and Texans.
Kay Bailey Hutchinson has refused to act on a NOTICE that I sent to her regarding the unlawful imprisonment of Texan, Cirino Gonzalez (after he stood to prevent another Waco 1993 incident).
I have documentation supporting my claim.
