Are They Ohio? National Labor Orgs Fund Anti-Reform Union Front Group
by Jason HartHow much do you know about Ohio’s Issue 2, the state ballot issue to uphold overdue government union reform passed this spring? Even if you’re burned out from the Wisconsin union circus — and who could blame you! — this is one swing-state issue you should care about.
‘We Are Ohio’ cares, to the tune of millions spent flooding Ohio’s airwaves with discredited class-warfare hackery. Who, you ask, is behind this “grassroots, citizen-driven” effort to kill government union reform in Ohio?
Infographic below the fold:
These figures were reported to the Ohio Secretary of State at the end of July, which means campaign totals are likely to be far greater. If you know any Ohio voters, make sure they know opposition to Issue 2 is being driven by D.C. union bosses. If you’d like to support the efforts of Ohio conservatives to counter the union smear campaign, check out Building a Better Ohio!

They should rename themselves "We Bought Ohio"
Unfortunately, if the polls are correct, the repeal issue 5 crowd is winning (which would be No on Issue 2). The outrageous union commercials and the complete inability of the current government to explain what is at stake is allowing this to happen – specifically by allowing the left to falsely present the issue as a "loss of rights".
This is one of the rare times when the issue really is messaging, and the right is failing to get the message across.
Unions extort money from their members, then donate said money to a political campaign and ideology intent on destroying America. There………..that about sums it up doesn't it?
That sure is an eye opening chart. I wish the best for the buckeye state.
Self determination vs union determination has become much harder to overcome. The good news is sooner our latter unions run out of other peoples money. I pray that self determination wins out in the long run before the unions are taken over by the Marxists in this country. History shows the path unions are on.
Here in Ohio, it's looking very much like the unions are going to win this round. It's sickening, so many people that haven't a clue what Issue 2 even is are very passionate about voting it down. The TV ads are probably 50 to 1 against Issue 2. The front yard signs are 100 to 0 meaning I've yet to see a single pro-Issue 2 sign in someone's yard.
I don't trust the polling or basing my assumption on yard signs, but judging by those I speak to, I don't think Issue 2 has a chance.
I agree, but I did get a very effective piece in the mail the other day. Had a photo of haughty Obama and said, "He wants you to vote no in issue two."
Unfortunately, you're exactly right.
But, I wonder – what would prevent them from simply turning around and passing another bill with essentially the same content? Probably nothing – except fear of not getting re-elected.
The point of this entire election is to scare politicians away from any union regulation ever again. Same with Walker in WI. I get to vote on this.
Gee,..why can't we do that,…????
Why,….???
WHY,…..?????
Why,….because we have this foolish notion that,……
just voting once every four years is sufficient,………
to ensure our rights.
Anyone who is not involved in one form or another,……
in the affairs of our society,……
is the problem.
Sadly I believe you're correct. Saturate the media with whatever message and the uninformed masses will usually blindly follow and then whine after the fact once they realize how they got screwed over.
That's because it's anti-union, and no one wants their house vandalized by thugs. I live in a pro-union suburb, and I wouldn't think of posting a sign.
The propaganda is horrendous. Ads indicate that SB 5 stops police and fire from negotiating additions to their forces. It's a bunch of hooey, but their message has definitely been effective.

this sums it up
Yeah, I think we have gotten that one to. The "Vote No" crowd, though, is constantly in your face, I have had people come to my door (where on earth do they get the time??? Hmmmm….) a couple of times, constant commercials with false information, and on and on. As a former state worker, I know first hand how corrupt the system is and in fact "opted out" of the union on principle (of course I still had to pay…..) . So glad I am in the private sector now!
The commercials in Ohio against SB5 have been OUTRAGEOUS! If it does go down….there will definitely be fewer police and fire. The cities and state are broke in this state. The unions want status quo to keep their power. The scare tactics have just been beyond the pale.
Yes it does.
Unions are returning to their corrupt and violent mafia roots.
When they start competing for power and control, heads will roll, literally.
Also…If I were Kasich and had to deal with this bunch of jokers..the day after it fails at the ballot box, I would begin the layoff process and downsizing of the Ohio State government….the taxpayers of Ohio are taxed out. Period!
That's exactly what is going to happen, book it. There's no money left and no choice in the matter.
That is what I have been trying to convey to some of the teachers/firemen in my family. Its a matter of ECONOMICS! No money=no employees. Welcome to the real world unions.
If they win yes.
Their cushy municipal jobs give them the time.
Oh but the blind followers never learn! Stock up on cheese, the unions are serving whine.
Proving once again UNIONS are Marxist UnAmerican Activity….crimnals needing the enema of Release…drive them into the sea.
Yeah I am really frustrated too. Fk'n republicans really do seem to be too kind or too stupid to lucidly express a thought and convey a clear and concise message. The people aren't dumb, but somebody damn sure is, for my guess refer to the second sentence. What do they need, Hey things are tough, the government is broke, the pensions are broke and YOU are GOING TO make it up for the unions somehow, and why don't these imbecilles see the need to maybe make some sacrifices to get through this. Way too much ammo on this issue and not one sissy republican will pick some balls and run with it.We have assisted in our own downfall.
Yes, in some quarters that activity would be illegal….
but for some strange reason, the members tolerate it….
Too late Sanmon, the unions are and have been communist for quite awhile. Look at number 36. This information has been available for a warning since 1963. http://www.rense.com/general32/americ.htm
Did I hear someone say, obama?
Too bad the scum bag Governor of Ohio, gov KASICK sold the public employee pension fund sh1tty securities when he worked for Lehman that were falsely and corruptly rated AAA. Now he has the audacity to complain about the pension shortfall.
Compared to that, this is all small potatoes.
I wont hold my breath for the story on that

No,…….No,…..NO,….!!!!!!
The old ("Wizard") man's wisdom provides,…
for each and everyone their dreams in the end,……..
by making them realize it was always within,…..
their individuality.
Do ya really think Obama has this quality……??????
Funny. Even dem news sources like Mother Jones don't back up your little screed. Prove it or shut up.
I agree that the "Yes on Issue 2" message has not been effectively put across al I believe Kasich is doign hs best. The problem has been (as in so many other cases) that the pro-Issue 2 forces did not realize that they are in (figuratively at least) a war and that the labor organizations are willing to do anything, say anything and spend any amount to win. My respect for police officers and fire fighters has dropped to about zero as a result of this. We all now know that their salaries and benefit packages are far more important to them then than the public weal. Everytime I see a police car with "To Protect and to Serve" on it I say to myself – "Yeah – To protect our money and serve our interests."
Just wait till our all volunteer "military" starts their own UNION!
Here a UNION, there a UNION…. everywhere a UNION. UNION. And, once everyone, has or belongs to some kind/sort of UNION….. just WHO will be in charge of regulating those UNIONS…. AH….. another UNION! GOT IT!
POWER relies on the ability to rule over a weaker class…… FREEDOM……. the modern day missing link!
I live in Ohio and can attest that the Lehman Brothers issue was beaten to death in the 2010 election and it had zilch effect. (His name is "Kasich" by the way.) I live in Ohio and the state is slowly sliding off the cliff. If Issue 2 goes down then there will be mass layoffs of public employees INCLUDING public safety workers across the state. The budget math is irrefutable. The state has lost hundreds of thousands of residents and jobs in the last twenty years and gained a reputation as a state "you don''t want to do business with." We lost two congressional seats as a result fo the last census. We can't afford "business as usual" yet that is what we are going to get. Everyone says you should prepare for a rainy day. Well that day is here.
I have observed the same things. What really grinds my gears is the way that public employees with a lot of seniority so casually accept the fact that their younger and less-well-paid colleagues are going to lose THEIR jobs if Issue 2 does not pass. No talk about "union solidarity" when THAT comes up.
Public unions have become a modern version of the Roman Praetorian Guard. They are a relatively small but strategically located group that can kill the Emporer and put a new one in his place.
The no-ers are being allowed to define the issue. Their commercials are misleading at best – they are actually total lies. The pro-Issue 2 group needs to take off the gloves because the other side never even put them on.

"The Columbus Dispatch reported this week that Kasich tried to persuade two state pension funds in 2002 to invest with Lehman Brothers while he was the managing director of the investment banking house's Columbus office.
The collapse of Lehman Brothers eventually cost Ohio's pensions nearly $500 million""
It's nothing new. The right/GOP/whoever definitely needs some advertising talent, not just in Ohio, but nationwide. For some reason we are all thumbs when it comes to getting our message out to the clueless Joe Sixpacks who seem to fall for the union BS time after time after time, and never once stop to wonder why the promises are never kept, or where all that support and help goes the day after election.
Yes, its frustrating as hell, but if Ohio conservatives cant turn it around, they are going to find themselves living in East California, and believe me, you DO NOT want that ! ! !
I'm terrible with spelling names, my apologies.
Budgets are bleak in almost every state. There is no doubt that unions demand far too much. But this is a case where the governor is tied to a big reason why pensions are having a shortfall… (the lehman investments are not the entire problem, i know, but a big one)
I think its in times of economic prosperity when the government can cut back on aide and spending. Instead we spent the last 6 years of prosperity (2001-07) over spending and accumulating massive debt. NOW when people are hurting the most is when the GOP proposes to cut back.
Kasich has no choice, I hope he cuts everything to the bone. You'll really here them scream then, but they will have brought it on themselves.
That doesn't prove that they were bad securities. That proves that while he was working for Lehman he did his job. And did you read what you posted? "[T]ried to persuade".
Think a minute.
Tried isn't "sold". Tried is tried. There is no try. There is do, or do not.
And is now leading the charge against the depleted pension funds.
He's just the last guy who should be going on about that.
Which begs the question….what in the world are these people thinking?
Thats the problem, they don't think; rather, they take the easy way out by letting their "brotherhood" leaders think for them, or more correctly fan the emotional fires of jealousy. If they ever figure out how much they are being screwed over by their own leaders – standby, then you'll see a real revolution.
I wish my native state well, (Im from Willard)
Unfortunately this is much like the situation in Wisconsin where unions and tons of out of state interest groups fueled money into the state senate recall elections (http://eng.am/rdchdL). However, in Wisconsin, no matter the election result, the legislation would not have changed (http://eng.am/nWvjZP). In Ohio this is not the case. This legislation is imperative to the financial future of the state. Compensation is totally out of whack in Ohio, with public sector employees receiving a total compensation package 43% higher than those in private sector (http://eng.am/pFPawi).
Unfortunately it looks like the legislation has an uphill battle in the upcoming referendum. You can only hope that should the referendum be found too overreaching by the citizens in the state, the government continues to work to fix the broken compensation system in the state.
And how do you figure that the governor of the state shouldn't be doing his job? Just because his job before was different.
I've never seen you whine about Barry O'Bama's previous job as rabble rouser v. his current job of…well, wait. Never mind, same thing.
I stand corrected. Allow me to offer a modification.
"We're Trying to Buy Ohio."
Thank you.
Just adding detail not correcting. Best summation of the lefts dirty tricks. Be well!
You too my friend.
As I'm sure you're aware your comparison is misguided. It's like saying Obama was one of the chief architects of the Iraq war, but now is the one wanting to get us out (which he's not, that withdrawal is Bush's plan)
Being a proponant for the community then a senator — he is still advocating for the same causes, unlike Kasich. Although bought out by the same special interests. To me he is a disappointment
That's what I said. Barry is still the community organizer he always was.
Looked at your puffho page. You look like a professional pot stirrer. Saw a few things that look like you argued one thing there and another there.
ok, you got me… I'm a pro pot stirrer. was an amateur a last year but decided to go pro with it.
""That's what I said. Barry is still the community organizer he always was. ""
Which as we all know, you need to have the experience of being a governor to do a good job. Just look at Bush. 8 years of growth and prosperity.
Stock market was at 12K…unemployment was statistically zero…where are we now? Oh yeah, Barry's done better. Sooooooo much better.
The lies that are being spread about SB5 are the big problem. My wife teaches for a non-union program that uses classrooms, and pays dearly for them, in a local school district and she says daily that if the teachers spent as much time teaching as they did planning on how to overturn SB5 all of the students would benefit. The Republicans did a poor job of explaining this bill to the citizens and the lies are easier to believe because of it.
Teachers all believe that their salaries will drop to below starting pay, firefighters and police think they will be forced to use junk equipment, (my wife just told me that her co-workers husband who is a firefighter says SB5 specifically says that if they have less than 4 men to respond to a fire that they have to let infants die in the fire because they are not allowed to into the building to save anyone!!)) teachers are telling people that they cannot negotiate for building safety!! Since when was that ever something they cared about, or had negotiated for…especially if you see the buildings some of these schools have to deal with.
.
The bill is very confusing to read and you can twist the wording around to mean different things. There has been no real explanation of the bill and its ramifications to the general public in a statewide open forum that I have seen.
The bottom line is the union greed and their lack of understanding or caring that the taxpayers who pay their salaries and benefits are unable to continue paying higher and higher taxes while there are fewer and fewer of them to do so
Ah, bubble economies. Don't ya just love them?
You know what else I love? Budget surpluses. Thanks Bush for taking a surplus and turning it into a 300 billion dollar deficit in just a couple years.
you think 2001-08 was good?
>More manufacturing jobs lost then in any other time in recent history (unemployment, like inflation, is a manipulated stat)
>stagnant wages while CEO's took in higher and higher wages then any time in all history.
>Endless war
>billions "B"illions gone missing in Iraq (while the right cries about million in a lost investment solyndra — hypocrites much?)
> housing bubble reaches peak while Bush makes no moves to reign in banks, raise interest rates — instead appoints a tool at the SEC to look the the other way.
>700,000 jobs lost a month by time Obama takes over
yes, it's all Obama's fault.
They tried the same exact thing in 2005 with the Reform Ohio Now deal. Polls allegedly saw all four issues passing comfortably, one of them by a 72-25 margin! They ALL failed in dismal fashion.
Not saying that will happen on the 8th, but the We Are Ohio crowd is dancing on top of the goal posts… and the final two minutes continue to play out.
Don't trust the polls. Historically in Ohio they have been highly unreliable. PPP and Quinnipiac have resorted to an oversampling of Democrats (47%!), polling registered voters (as opposed to LIKELY voters) and aren't asking the ballot language question in the polls.
So, quite frankly, it's tough to know WHERE it stands.
Yup. They will ONLY have themselves to blame.
Me? As soon as I can, I'm headed for Texas.
I pray that self determination wins out in the long run before the unions are taken over by the Marxists in this country. History shows the path unions are on. tekken for pc
