Another Debate Audience Recites Pledge When Another Moderator Says ‘No
by Jeff DunetzWhat is it with the League of Woman’s Voters and the Pledge of Allegiance?
For the second time in less than a week a congressional debate began with a request for the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, and for the second time in a week the League of Woman’s Voters moderator said no, and for the second time in a week the audience got up and said it anyway. One would think that with all of the bad publicity after last week’s incident, the League would have “gotten it.” But Tuesday night the League of Woman Voters proved that they aren’t too “quick on the uptake.”
The Pennsylvania 18th Congressional district debate between Republican incumbent Tim Murphy and his Democratic party challenger Dan Connolly was about to begin when Murphy asked the moderator for the pledge. As the moderator Susan Reuther began to make excuses, the crowd stood up and took action on their own.
After the Pledge of Allegiance was recited, moderator Susan Reuther dealt with her obvious consternation over the spontaneous show of patriotism by scolding Candidate Murphy who asked for the pledge.
“Next time if you have a request like that, we would appreciate it if you would give it to us when the rules are discussed,” she said.
“It didn’t need to be requested. I assumed you would do it,” Mr. Murphy replied.
Former Peters High School principal Tom Hajzus was sitting in the front row with a 22-yearold Marine veteran wounded by a bomb in Afghanistan.
“The insensitivity, to me, was inexcusable and outrageous,” said the registered Democrat and Murphy supporter. The crowd’s reaction “was an American moment, that’s what that was,” he said.
Once again the League of Woman’s Voters blamed it on politics.
“There have been some groups who want to create a ruckus, call attention to something and using the pledge to the flag and making it seem the league is unpatriotic if we don’t,” says Greater Pittsburgh League President Arlene Levy.
Levy says she thinks some of this is political but the League has no problem with the pledge if requested in advance by the candidates.
While neither Connolly nor Murphy made that request before the debate, both of the candidates said there was nothing political about the pledge.
“I see it as something completely a-political. It’s something that unites all of Americans,” says Connolly.
“If the flag is political, then we have some problems here. The flag is what brings us together,” says Murphy.
Ms Levy says her chapter will be discussing this issue at its next board meeting, perhaps to incorporate the pledge in every candidate debate (YA THINK!?!?)
The previous incident occurred last Wednesday night at the beginning of a debate between Democratic incumbent Melissa Bean, GOP challenger Joe Walsh and Green Party candidate Bill Scheurer. The debate for Illinois 8th congressional district took place at Grayslake Central High School. While League of Women Voters moderator Kathy Tate-Bradish began explaining the rules of the debate an audience member raised his hand and (when called upon) asked if they were going to start with the Pledge of Allegiance. When she said no, the audience booed and almost all in the crowd of more than 300 stood and enthusiastically recited it anyway.
What is it with these people at the league? What is so wrong about taking out one minute to say the Pledge of Allegiance and honor the great republic that allows debate between two political parties? Why is it that every time an audience wants to recite the Pledge the League of Woman’s Voters takes it as a personal affront. In the end a second incident within one week doesn’t make one question the League’s patriotism, it makes people question their intelligence.

Awesome, these jerk wad liberals have re-newed a sense of patriotism in America, the absolute LAST thing they wanted. They wanted us to hate America as much as they do, and their actions designed for just that purpose are having the opposite response.
Civil disobedience, gotta love it.
Have you read this: http://hillbuzz.org/2010/10/27/an-open-letter-to-...
Whoa.
GREAT!
Call them out whenever you see them and their subversive, politically correct, multi-cultural, anti-American ways.
League of women voters? Should be renamed to "league of progressive bitches". Sorry, but i am incensed at the disrespect our flag and our country has gotten even since "obamao" held his crotch on the campaign trail in 2008 instead of saluting the flag. Time for change? You bet.
They just don't get it. It used to be cool to ignore or deplore American tradition. The 60's are over. Welcome to a new century of American exceptionalism- starting with our allegience.
This just goes to show you….Patriotism is in our blood. It's who we are.
Liberals need to get that through their thick skulls.
If they don't like it….well they're free to leave.
Great link….thanks!
There is a saying I use for times like these," actions speak loader than words". We the people will have the final word. Bravo to these patriots.
"Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed."
Martin Luther King, Jr.
I think it's time for the Tea Party women to set their sites on the LOWV. There's no reason why we couldn't take over much of that organization in a very short period of time. According to Wikipedia, it has 150,000 members nationwide. What do you say, ladies, up for a challenge?
That's true! And we've been seeing too much of their actions to last us a life time.
That's right sister!
They are free to go to the nearest Islamofacist country where they will fit right in. We The People have finally forced them to reveal who they are……..a bunch of American hating pinko commies.
And when they leave we'll throw a party. Independence Day the 2nd.
God Bless America!!!
May hell claim the League of WOmen Voters.
Well now,
THAT was the best comment I have read today copper. TYVM.
LOL How about "League of Fugly Lesbian Liberal Voters"
Scratch the "Women" in "League of Women Voters,", and you might find a "y" under the "e."
I hope this continues. I hope that everyone "causes a ruckus" for political purposes. It is time to eliminate the pervasive hatred of this country fomented by so many on the left in myriad subtle and not so subtle ways. This is the greatest country in the history of mankind and we don't want it changed into a pale reflection of France fifteen years ago.
Naw, they try and hide that Hillary wrote her college thesis about Alinsky, and still hope you don't understand what early 20th century progressive is all about. Early 20th century progressive, read Democrat Woodrow Wilson, the biggest racist elected president, so far, eugenics and the precursor to the NAZI party of Germany.
But but.. that would be so "Un-PC!" kevin! The LOBV (yes, that B means what you think it means) can't upset non-American voters!
I don't trust Kevin Dujan. He has always come across as an attention seeker.
Another shining example of right-wing wit.
What a joke. American "exceptionalism."
"What is it with the League of Woman’s Voters and the Pledge of Allegiance?"
As the pledge of allegiance and the National Anthem brings a sense of pride and resolve to the Americans that love freedom, whether you succeed or fail in all of its promise. They, the progressives have the same sense of pride and resolve with the communist manifesto and rules for radicals. The difference is theirs will always be destined for failure.
Susan Reuther( League of Women Voters): "There have been some groups that want to create a ruckus"
Since when is reciting the Pledge of Allegiance creating a ruckus, lady?
“There have been some groups who want to create a ruckus, call attention to something and using the pledge to the flag and making it seem the league is unpatriotic if we don’t,” says Greater Pittsburgh League President Arlene Levy.
Yep, because nothing stirs up a ruckus like that doggone Pledge of Allegiance!
Bunch of VERY dumb bitches. Send them to the communist state, California.
Inexcusable. I wonder, did Miss Levin or Kathy Tate-Bradish stand too and follow in the recitement? HMMM?
Is there a pattern here? What control freaks liberals are. Notice, in both occurrences, the condescending, school-marm lecture they spout when their authority was challenged? They throw a fit when others don't follow their RULES. They consider the Pledge "a rule to be discussed" and approved by THEM. That's the same arrogance our Dear Leader has…….
there is a saying that you should consider, your enemy is my enemy thus you have common cause.kevin has put a lot on the line in support of this country.i wish more gays would listen to him and not to the dnc talking points.we can all agree to disagree about personal lifestyle choices and still band together to take the country back from the far left.
hillbuzz and other pumas have inside insight that need to be listened to otherwise in 2012 the early primaries namely iowa face the possibilities of being gamed and having a frontruuner chosen not by the grassroots but rather by the msm and the left by gaming the caucas system especially in iowa just as the did to hillary .
dont belevie me than thats your loss ,as for me and for others RUN SARARH RUN.
I think you mean "You betcha!"
The left only likes civil disobedience at the same times it believes that dissent is the highest form of patriotism: When it's directed at conservatives.
Maybe one day we will stumble upon a Republican LWV representative, who is involved in a controversy over the recitation of the Pledge, but I doubt it.

Time for everyone to review the Alinsky/Delphi manipulation technique:
http://www.learn-usa.com/transformation_process/a...
The Delphi Technique — What Is It?
The Delphi Technique was originally conceived as a way to obtain the opinion of experts without necessarily bringing them together face to face. In recent times, however, it has taken on an all new meaning and purpose. In Educating for the New World Order by B. Eakman, the reader finds reference upon reference for the need to preserve the illusion that there is "…lay, or community, participation (in the decision-making process), while lay citizens were, in fact, being squeezed out." The Delphi Technique is the method being used to squeeze citizens out of the process, effecting a left-wing take over of the schools. (more at above link)
The "Greater" League of Women Voters can shove it. Their hesitation and semantic games show their true colors.
This is all part of the left's "fear of numbers" and isolation strategy. If they can succeed in making people who do love this country and understand its founding principles feel alone, they stand a better chance of achieving their nefarious goals. My hat is off to the good citizens at both debates who didn't go along to get along. I salute you.
It seems the league of women voters should merge with NOW and then finally get absorbed into the DNC. They all stand for the same thing. I hope people keep doing this at every event where the Pledge isn't first and foremost.
The Expert Knows
We're just a bunch of Rabble-Rousers who don't want to follow any rules…….except the ones laid out in the Constitution.
The LWV is nothing more than a front for the socialist dim party. Good on you, folks, for saying the pledge of allegiance.
The Pledge of Allegiance can be our tool to take back this Country. Any and all gatherings, here and far away, should start with the Pledge until it overwhelms the progressives with patrtiotism. They will shrink and go away eventually because they have no such pledge.
Good reading Phillep. Thanks!
I recall that a technique much like this was used at those phony "Coffee Party" clusters which fortunately went nowhere.
The whole thing is blowing up in their faces. The liberals are losing on every front. And they don't like it. I hope we can flush them once and for all next Tuesday.
Tea is a fairly good laxative, isn't it?
Another Obama "endowed by our Creater" moment".
They will start "scheduling" the pledge just as Barry started wearing a flag pin, after he was against it.
"Ms Levy says her chapter will be discussing this issue at its next board meeting"
You can bet the Pledge isn't recited at their board meetings.
Great link. I especially liked the "how to disrupt it" part. It made me realize that I had always done that…….it was the "charming " part that was always the most challenging.
"league of progressive bitches". …Best one I've heard all day!
Thanks so much for this link! I'm listening to Rush & he's talking about this now.
Feel free to elaborate if you wish. If you cannot point to another country which is like America, then is it not an exception?
Ms. Levy needs to become educated; then crawl back under the rock she came out from.
Peoples actions speak more about their allegiances than the words of any pledge.
Whoa is right. Sure haven't heard this in the media. Dittos on thanks for the link. I'll be sure my democrat, (notice no "ic"), see this.
What is the problem. It costs nothing to do. It is in line with good citizenship, at a political function. I really don't understand why any moderator would have any compunction about it. Or, any good reason to omit it.
“There have been some groups who want to create a ruckus, call attention to something and using the pledge to the flag and making it seem the league is unpatriotic if we don’t,” says Greater Pittsburgh League President Arlene Levy."
That is the most insulting part and clearly illustrates the lack of patriotism she is claiming does not exist.
Since you say you have no problem with it how about trying this? How about beginning your meeting WITH the pledge. If you didn't have to be "asked" in the first place, your patriotism might not be in question at all.
There… that fixes that problem for you.
Morons…
…and they get upset if you call them un or anti-American…
…and can't connect that accusation with their actual actions…
…the true hallmark of the modern STATIST (That's DEMS and REPS, kiddies!).
Out of all happenings and events that are conducted in this country,………
a candidates' debate is the one place,…..
where the Pledge of Allegiance should be recited.
The words should serve as a last minute instruction to the candidates,……..
as to how they should respond to the questions.
Dammit people, how can the left control the narrative if we savages insist on patriotic silliness.
Very cool, by the way.
Foremost to any gathering of people to accomplish anything there must be a common objective of the gathering lest a mob erupt. So we recite or invoke the pledge, motto, fight song or chant that unites the gathering.
If it is a civic gathering, we recite together to soldify our common purpose.
I pledge (I will follow the rules for participation):
Allegiance to the Flag, of the United States of America (symbolic of our group);
And to the Republic For Which It Stands (you read and understand our charter);
One Nation, Under God, Indivisble (our Core Values);
With Liberty and justice for All (our Objective).
For a long time this group has thought that non-partisan means non-patriotic.
A political debate in the greatest country on God's green earth and they can't recite the Pledge?
When are these people going to wake up and accept they live in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA?
If this broad had and sense at all (and the fact that she doesn’t further proves she is likely a lib/dim/socialist) she could have stated at the request “Why yes, why don’t we, what a great idea”. That would have carried a lot of weight in this current “Anti-Patriotic” environment we seem to live in. The LOWV could have used that action as collateral in the future. Idiots.
Interesting that the League of Women Voters considers the pledge to be a partisan demonstration.
It suggests that they believe the political divide in America is fundamentally over pro-vs-anti-American.
The little Napoleons are not used to having people not showing "sensitivity" towards their obviously superior thinking.
"Some groups want to create a ruckus…"
And some groups want to remain the Ruling Class.
I just love when these people are put on the spot and they say stupid things. It just gives us more fodder to help us sweep them out of power. Thank you.
Ronald Reagan said it best in this speech he gave in 1964.

"Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed."
Martin Luther King, Jr
The pledge should be the Constitution – NOT THE GOVERNMENT. Not the "flag" which represents the militant wing of the government (the military.) The Pledge rings of Marxism to me.
Thanks, mac! That's huge! Hillbuzz has a lot of followers and influence.
Can't flush them all at once. For one, the toilet would clog, and for two, only a third of the Senate is up this time.
Right now, I'd say our country is heading in the direction of most of Western Europe.
Give him time! He's just begun to see the light! Too much too soon could blow his mind!
What's sad is that this organization used to be of great service, providing non-partisan venues for the candidates to debate in public. I don't know when they lost their way and became another mouthpiece for the left.
"The pledge should be the Constitution"
With that much I agree.
There is a good reason why the Oath of Office for all federal officials is to the Constitution. If only it were taken seriously.
You don't understand women! Most women's organizations operate by consensus and they exported that style through the school system. That's why we have such namby-pamby leadership these days! That's one of the things I admired about Bush. Though I disagreed with him on many things, at least he had the character and substance to lead.
Noooooooo! We already have more than our fair share!
Wasn't the Pledge of Allegiance created around 1892 Skippy?
why would anyone have to ask permission to do the pledge.this outfit is just another commie org.
If the reciting the Pledge is a right-wing trap to make lefties seem unpatriotic, then it's a trap they keep stupidly walking into. The liberals could easily diffuse the trap by calling for the Pledge first, but that would just tick off their supporters, who hate the Pledge (especially the "under God" part). Hence, they keep on walking into that trap.
That's a reasonable argument, but most of the folks on the left oppose the Pledge not because it rings of Marxism, but because it rings of patriotism (or Jingoism, as they call it). And the "under God" part drives them completely up the wall.
That is the one place where the POtuS showed some spine.
Bow to kings and dictators? Sure.
Talk trash about the USA and her people? You bet!
Recite the Pledge of Allegiance?! What are you smoking?
Thanks for the laugh. These woman seem to have lost their way and value. I love it when ordinary patriotic citizens take matters into their own hands.
League of women voters moderator = ass crack.
"In the end a second incident within one week doesn’t make one question the League’s patriotism, it makes people question their intelligence."
I question both.
Quite so. The left has no problem using the terminology and indeed repeating the themes of Marxism.
If the pledge did sound Marxist to the left, I expect they'd embrace it enthusiastically.
Course not. They've got no concept at all of their ideological heritage. [Nor anyone else's really. That's what this is all about.]
Respectful Civil Disobedience, the best kind!!!
Bravo to the audience. We need to stop being afraid of what the left thinks of us, or what dirty names they're gonna call us if we speak our minds.
I suspect the "under God" part drives Smed crazy too.
No need to be sorry friend, unless of course you were holding back.
Yes! Let's do it again! and again, and again…
"They have no problem with it if it is requested in advance." Here you go beaaach: Say it every time you have a meeting or an event. There, I requested in advance.
One day I'd like to meet an honest leftist who will acknowledge that without at least the philosophical construct of a creator, rights cannot be inalienable.
Honest leftist… yeah, one day I'd like to meet the High King of Unicorns too.
Huzzah! Methinks The Wave is growing into something much larger than just the next election. And long past due. Welcome back, America!
Unfortunately the League of Women Voters has been taken over by "progressives" — and you know what that means — yet a number of good people do not know this –yet. IMHO, candidates who care about this country should refuse the League as a forum, thus ending any patina of credibility
Yes their true colors are communist! This League of Women's Voter are outmoded. More Freeze-dried Hippie's Children. They're breeding socialism. Hope we're the generation to return Constitutionalism to America.
I like your Darrell Issa quote! Can't wait for the New Team!
They would rather bow to a Muslim King.
The Problem with Liberals is they really do hate America…. they hate everything America stands for.
LOL
"What is this 'charming' thing?"
Ironically, it was created by a socialist christian (google it). It's giving the socialist atheists (marxists) fits.
Apparently WE THE PEOPLE do not hesitate to represent ourselves in situations like this.
It is WE THE PEOPLE!
I am reminded of the students at Columbine who "defied" the law or convention and PRAYED at school….
…..and DISPLAYED crosses!
I'm going to hit "submit comment" when my chill bumps subside. GOD BLESS AMERICA !
One day, they will get the hint. Fortunately, at this rate, it will be too late for them to say anything.
You are aware they had rules prohibiting any sort of expression like this before, during and after the debate? Personally i'd recommend a recital of Alice Cooper's "Poison" but that's just me….
Again let's see if people can be civil about it.
So saying the Pledge of Allegiance is "raising a ruckus" to some?
Can't wait for the new team either! Let's hope they drop kick a bunch of this recently-wrought congressional nonsense out the window. The Politburo of Womyn Voters may not like it, but eh.
Now wouldn't it be interesting if for the next presidential debate the republican candidate requested the Pledge before they began??????????
