Shirley Sherrod: ‘They Made Me Quit Because I was Going to Be On Glenn Beck’
by Jeff DunetzShirley Sherrod defended herself today from charges of racism stemming from the video released on Big Government yesterday.
The video showed Ms Sherrod, USDA Georgia Director of Rural Development, speaking at an NAACP Freedom Fund dinner in Georgia. Ms Sherrod, who is a federally appointed bureaucrat lays out in shockingly lays out that how race played a part in executing her duties.
Sherrod was forced to resign almost immediately after the video was posted. Incredibly, it seems however that her firing was less about what she said in the speech, and more about the story being broadcast on Fox News.
In interviews today, Ms Sherrod describes what was behind her speech and how, after the video cuts off, she explains that moment was a turning point in her life where she learned to beyond race.
She said the whole video would reveal that she eventually came to work closely with the white farmer and that she was trying to impart a lesson about how important it is to get “beyond the issue of race.”
“I went on to work with many more white farmers,” she said. “The story helped me realize that race is not the issue.”
Sherrod told CNN that she was forced to resign because ”you’re going to be on Glenn Beck tonight.” While she was driving home from work last night Sherrod told CNN that Cheryl Cook, the deputy undersecretary for Rural Development, called her three times on “harassing” her with warnings about the attention she was going to receive after the video surfaced. On the final call Cook demand that she pull over to the side of the road and resign electronically then and there.
“They were not interested in hearing the truth. No one wanted to hear the truth,” she said in an interview Monday morning.
Sherrod also struck out at the the NAACP, which put out a statement condemning her for her remarks and then retracted it. She says the NAACP never contacted her and that if it wasn’t for the NAACP/Tea Party fight she wouldn’t have been forced to resign.
If this story is true, and there is no reason to doubt her, it shows the extent that Breitbart, Fox,and the Tea Party have gotten under the skin of the White House. Rather then to think it through they overreacted and forced Sherrod to pull over on the side of the road and resign without telling her side of the story.
It is also hard to understand why the NAACP would instantly condemn Ms Sherrod, if the speech was indeed as she said, why wouldn’t they respond by releasing the entire speech? One explanation may be that she is lying, but if you listen closely to the end of the clip she does seem to be pivoting toward saying it was about income not race (and then seems to change her mind again).
Another explanation for the White House and the NAACP not releasing the entire tape is the possibility that Shirley Sherrod is their sacrificial lamb. Possibly they do not care about the truth. Perhaps they realized their resolution attacking the Tea Party as racist was such a political loser, especially coming right after disclosure of DOJ Black Panther scandal, they see the condemnation of Sherrod as a way out of theses crises and seem racially balanced.
Either way Shirley Sherrod is the victim of a White House so incredibly thin skinned, so frighted of the media and the citizens of the United States who believe these words written by William Shakespeare “Tell truth and shame the devil”

The government bureaucrats are starting to sweat in the various departments. How about reforming these unconstitutional departments so that we no longer have three (statistically 3.5) private sector workers supporting a public sector employee.

I already posted that I wouldn't have fired her because she ended up saying that it wasn't a white black thing it was a poor thing….she was fired without knowing any historical context. I like her….and as for her saying; Has anybody ever seen a federal employee fired–that is just the truth.
The Greatest Form of Racism is inside of our own Government. Go apply for a Government Small Biz. loan and the first question will be "are you a minority"? If not the second question will be "Will 51% or more of this Biz be Female owned"? If the answer is no to both of these then you might want to look else where for the loan.

In defense of Mrs. Sherrod I've dealt with a white woman at the USDA who was equally if not more incompetent. This should not be about color.
This is about a failed government. The USDA is riddled with ideological HOGWASH. We must be downsizing ALL federal agencies. Give the money to the states and let them micromanage agriculture, education etc.
Instead of a decade of RICH TOP SOIL we have had a decade of RICH CLIMATE "SCIENTISTS"…..catch my drift.

There is info missing here. Shirley Sherrod recently, in fact only days before she GOT this job in summer 2009, received hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars in settlement of a LONGstanding lawsuit against.. THE AGRICULTURE DEPT. in fact, the name on the lawsuit is "somethingsomething vs VILSACK". She got paid, big time, for past racist behavior by USDA in helping black farmers (HER black farmers, she started some kind of commune back in the 1960s, some group farming thing). SHE GOT THIS JOB AS AN UNDER THE TABLE PART OF THE SETTLEMENT, I guarantee it. She was run off the USDA road because they all want her to disappear before the details of this get uncovered.

The entire video has to be seen to make judgment as it does appear at this point the partial is incomplete and should not have been posted if the ultimate objective is truth. I'm disappointed in Big Government and do hope an explanation is given, and if need be full acknowledgment posting this clip was wrong.

There are no limits to the intimidation politics this White House will play to further their agenda and consolidate ever expanding power in themselves. Ms Sherrod needs to tell her story so we can get her side of it and if this goes into intimidation in the name of silencing her this is worse than Watergate by a long-shot. She needs to speak and we all need to hear it no matter where the chips may fall.
I assure you that if this tape was edited, Ms. Sherrod will have no trouble finding an attorney and California allows punitive damages.

That's a good question, but the NAACP immediately dumped on her too. There's more to this than meets the eye. While it is plausible that her comments were taken out of context, it is also plausible that she's lying now to pursue a settlement or law suit. More will come out I'm sure.
Maybe I am wrong, but the two wrongs make a right defense is not recognized in our judicial system.
I always tend to view this kind of garbage like this: You can make your mouth say anything !! She said what she said. She admitted abusing her official position because of race and it doesn't matter if the story was a "teaching moment" or not. The fact that she stated she took the farmer to one of "his own kind" shows she still has lingering racist feelings that may or may not impact her job performance.
I have made that connection as well, after looking into her background. I think it may be a valid argument, BUT, since when do Democrats hold a grudge about spending too much of other people's money?

Which is no suprise coming from the NAACP, as they seem to fall pretty hardcore in line with the Liberal movement as a whole – My issue is that this very site hasn't been open about whether they recieved more than they released, and chose to edit it down to make their point.
Lets be honest – This video clip is inflammatory in an extreme and timely way, and releasing it as a clip could have no purpose other than to lead to this womans embarrassment and expulsion followed by the denail train on the left. My concern is that in an effort to provide a "gotcha" to the lefts recent claims of racism, BB sacrified the truth via editing and condemned a potentially innocent woman to political death-by-cover-your-ass.
Just because the left plays stupid insulting games with reality doesn't mean the right should sink to that level… I'd just like some clarity.

The problem with government is that at some juncture it involves one person having power over another, one person ruling another. As Jason Lewis has pointed out many times on his radio program, every mass murder, genocide, slavery, war, tax, regulation, subsidy, or any of the other myriad things gov't has inserted itself into, involves that phenomenon.
Bureaucrats are allowed such arrogant behavior because if you are unfortunate enough to have to deal with them, you HAVE to deal with them, and to whatever extent the transaction goes, your fate depends upon their decision.
Not so if you walk into a private sector business; if you encounter a rude or unhelpful employee, you can walk out the door without ending up in jail.
None of this adds up to support her story. If it is a context issue, I can think of little she could say that at a minimum would make this appear less racist. All the actors in the play, Obama and the NAACP suggest what she did was overt racism as displayed in the video. Her story that this was a tale of redemption just seems really hard to believe would fit with the comments on the video. As they say in DC, if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a duck. Well this looks like a racist rant, not a redemption story or a story of lessons learned. But they can prove me wrong by releasing the whole tape. I suspect they wont do that because it would likely prove my point.

“King Samir is not doing any interviews. Our only statement on that is that his music is art, and not to be taken as literal political speech or a New Black Panther organizational statement.”
His art, on display in "Damn Rebels," includes violent descriptions of attacking police:

The Department of Justice did not respond to FoxNews.com’s questions about whether the agency was aware of "Damn Rebels" when it decided not to pursue most charges of voter intimidation against the New Black Panther Party at a Philadelphia polling station in 2008.
King Samir Shabazz — whose real name is Maurice Health — was named in the original indictment, but charges against him were dropped.
Two weeks ago, a former Justice official, J. Christian Adams, testified before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, which is investigating how the polling intimidation case was handled. Adams told the commission that the Justice Department had a tendency to show bias in favor of black defendants.
Requests to discuss the song sent to multiple e-mail addresses belonging to King Samir Shabazz were not returned.
The other member of Coup Da’Ta, an emcee named Lazarus, did not respond to an e-mail request for comment. Phone calls to a number listed on a contact page for the group were unsuccessful.
OK: Forget about the fact that the story is interesting and that the author is generally doing his job at Breitbart in bringing the story to us. Please observe these quotes (given in context):

I'm going to keep talking about the subject of poor writing when I see it because the subject deserves notice. The writing standards of the conservatives need to be on par with our leftist counterparts. Commentators like me aren't getting paid to write their opinions – you are. Please proofread or use spellcheck, which also checks for grammatical errors, too!

If they had the entire video and it supported her claim then the American people would rise up to back her!
When are you gonna wake up and stop being a tool of the left? Do I think she should have resigned? Not if she were innocent. Her case would have gone up for arbitration and she would have been exonerated. Her government career would have been set cause nobody would even appear to hassle her again.
Stick to your ideas about personal responsibility and financial reform. You make some sense in that area. Judging guilt, not so much.

The NAACP attendees are clearly shown nodding approvingly at Sherrod's admission of discriminating against her white client. That was Breitbart's point all along.

I'm not sure how to say it any other way – I agree with ya'll, this shows very clearly that the NAACP at least has significant tolerance for black-on-white institutional racism, but is that at all surprising?
If we're honest with ourselves, does anyone really believe that it's possible for a group that's entire purpose is to make things better for one racial group, to be unbiased towards the race they're promoting?
Again, the fact that she's at fault and the NAACP are at fault is not being disputed – The question is, was this video edited to remove the context and make it appear more inflamatory?
Why is there not a greater call for clarity in these comments? Just piling on to what is obviously a questionable situation with no regard for the reality is something I expect from TheHill, not BigGovernment.
At our local FSA Office I have noticed one of these 'new minority administrators', sitting prominently
at a desk between two large rooms of employees, as if she is the big cheese, watching the peons
work. She talks too loud, broadcasting the business of the person with whom she is speaking to
both rooms. Every farmer waiting to be helped turns his head and stares, then frowns. I know what
they're thinking….How do I avoid EVER having a phone conversation with her. Ours is a small com-
munity, it's not hard to figure out with whom she is speaking. My impression is she is working with
minorities who are trying to buy small acreage farm-ettes to park their trailer houses and raise their
garden and goats. This is the Left's plan coming to pass, we are becoming MX Lite.
If the oRegime had not demanded Ms Sherrod resign immediately, this could have been
sorted out and the proper context revealed. Are you blaming BG for the oRegimes lack
