Reverend Rangel Does the Lord’s Work

Barack Obama, the most pro-choice person, never mind president, in the history of the world, is famous for quoting Scripture for political impact.
When pushing immigration reform, the Book of Deuteronomy 10:19 came in handy for Obama, who said, “Love ye therefore the stranger; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.” At the Tucson Memorial, the President cited the Book of Job. For the National Prayer Breakfast, how about a little misquoted Isaiah 40:31?
Jumping into the debt-ceiling fray, Charlie Rangel is also calling upon Scripture. The Congressman is emulating Barack Obama, who at an Easter Breakfast praised “God for the gift of our son — his Son and our Savior” Jesus, who hung on the cross – a symbol that Obama asked be covered up for his Georgetown University speech.
Nonetheless, Charlie must have gotten religion since his ethics conviction in 2010 for financial impropriety, understating his assets, shady campaign office shenanigans, and tax evasion. Seems when asked where the religious leaders are on “all of this” debt-ceiling stuff, a spokesperson for the pious Charlie Rangel said that the “silence of the clergy, of all faiths, has been ‘deafening’ as they consider cutting social programs designed for the poor and elderly.” Which, by the way, are paid for with tax dollars Charlie conveniently forgot to pay.
Preaching the Gospel of social justice, Reverend Rangel said that debt-ceiling questions “are not political,” but rather “moral.” He would know. Rangel is certainly a qualified judge of morality with his 100% support for pro-choice organizations, as well as conveniently avoiding “rendering unto Caesar what is Caesar’s.”
Exhorting the faithful to shun cutting social programs, Rangel said “Let’s do the Lord’s work.” In Democrat-speak, “the Lord’s work” is anything liberals do. “And,” Charlie said, “they,” (whoever ‘they’ are), “will realize this is not justice.”
Seeking “a moral answer,” Rangel said, “Why don’t you call your pastor, your rabbi, your imam. Forget Medicare, CPI and the debt and go back to the Scriptures.”
Charlie, crying out as a voice in the wilderness, asked: “Where is the Good Samaritan?”
Why Charlie, the Good Samaritan is not involved in the debt-ceiling debate, because it’s likely he or she is at an abortion clinic reaching out to women and imploring them not to go through with the abortion you hope government funding will pay for.
So as Reverend Rangel throws Bible verses around and attempts to pose the question “What would Jesus do?” maybe someone should ask him to expound further upon what he thinks Jesus would do if Charlie and his friend Obama asked Him how He felt about government-funded abortion.

Jesus would probably tell us to actively help others in need, and that we are stewards of whatever money we have been blessed with. He probably would not describe giving as sitting like passive sheep as money is taken from us and wasted on bureacratic bloat and politicians' cronies. That would not be good stewarship. It certainly is not my definition of charity anyway.

Wesley Snipes got three years for failure to file after he was declared not guilty of tax evasion. This guy gets off with censure for actual tax evasion. Censure isn't even a slap on the wrist, it's like telling someone "we ought to slap you on the wrist".
I think all elected officials would do better to leave their religious beliefs and fake piety in their living quarters.
Our Constitution and system of law, from federal to local, is based on the concept of crime, not sin.

I was so disgusted with him after reading this article that I felt compelled to post something, but after reading what was already posted I think you all covered my feelings quite well.
Charlie Rangel is a fraud who steals from the government – and thus the welfare programs he supports – in order to line his own pocket. How many children went hungry when Mr. Rangel failed to pay his taxes? How many elderly went without their medication because Mr. Rangel felt no need to abide by the tax code he wrote? How many people lost their homes while he enjoyed his illegally tax free vacation property?
Jesus did not have much to say about tax codes but He had a lot to say about leaders who oppressed their people while claiming moral superiority. Charlie Rangel – the white washed tomb who tries to appear good on the outside but on the inside is full of death and decay. (Matthew 23:27)

Rangel wants the money so he can further enslave once free people to the welfare state. He wants it for his own power and glory and cares little about the people. His own failure to pay taxes witnesses against his claim to champion the poor through government aid.

Actually, when you come right down to it Rangel and Turbo are no better than most federal workers at paying their taxes. Last year federal employees owed more than $3 billion, yes, billion, in back taxes!
You might find this partial breakdown interesting:
•Executive Office of the President (includes the White House): 50 employees owe $812,917;
•U.S. Senate: 231 employees owe $2,469,026;
•U.S. House of Representatives: 447 employees owe $5,809,631;
•U.S. Tax Court: 3 employees owe $39,752;
•Active Duty Military: 27,111 employees $102,474,672.
That's not counting post office employees owing nearly $300 million alone!
So these two tax cheats simply seem to run with the herd.
What I can't figure out is how come the federal government doesn't withold the right amount in the first place like employers do with the rest of us working schlubs?
I think, when one is forced to pay something the term Good Samaritan can no longer be applied, Galt. Unless Charlie is asking us to be Good Samaritans and volunteer to give money to the government. Before that happens, I'll wait to see how much Charlie volunteers and I have no doubt I'd be willing to match his offering since I know it won't be much, if anything.
And before they can give it away, they have to steal it from those that earned it. If that really was what religion was about, I'd be an atheist myself!

Me also. It would be interesting to see how much charitable giving would increase if taxes were reduced or better yet, the Fair Tax was introduced.
While I cannot prove it, I bet there is a direct correlation between increased taxes and reduced giving to all charities, but particularly those that used to do what the governement does now. Perhaps it was intentional on the governments part. The less churches can do in their neighborhoods, the more government "HAS" to do to help those same people.
Jesus told his followers to help the poor and the unfortuneate. Also, he told them to pay Caesar his taxes due as well as tithe to their Israelite Govt system…this is double duty.
He did not tell the Jewish Establishment to establish Social security networks at all. He told individuals to help out other individuals. Remember, they were under Roman Rule and Authority at the time.
Eventually, the new Christian Group developed. They were "Kicked Out" of the Jewish Govt Network. The Romans considered them to be Trouble Makers. So, they started sharing with each other quite often….This was not socialism.

Being poor during the O.T. Israelite Law systems was considered to be a sin! Why? Because the person or society has a very poor moral condition. If they would do what their God said to do, then they would receive the Blessings of Deuteronomy Ch 28. If they don't meet God's Conditions, then the blessings are removed.
Amazingly, Charlie was able to spout his b.s. with a straight face.
Social protection systems are not the duties for the Civil Govt. First of all, is the Family that offers helps. Next, the church offers assistances. Another one is Charities.
Even though I am retired and receiving a Social Security Check…this system isn't right! The problem is that we don't have a sound and stable money system. This is the "sin" of the Govt and our F.R.B systems..
The graduated income tax is a "Plank" in the Marxist Planning Book.

This kind of thing annoys me to no end. As a Christian, I find it offensive for someone like Rangel to pull the "Jesus card" whenever it suits his purposes, while the rest of the time he lives like God and Jesus don't matter. To me, this is the same as "taking God's name in vain." I don't know what's in his heart, but the Bible says that we will know them by their "fruit," or the things they do, whether they are of God or not. So far, the fruit shown by Rangel and his ilk is rotten to the core. Also, given that a politician, a member of the U.S. government, is invoking the name of Jesus, where are the ACLU and all the other anti-Christian groups that normally raise Cain when there is even the hint of a violation of "separation of church and state?" I guess it's okay for a liberal to invoke God and Jesus for his/her own ends, but not for a conservative, huh?
And mangling of precepts is exactly what Rangel is doing here. He is trying to make the case that Christianity calls for us to fork over more and more of our money to the government so they can redistribute the wealth to their political advantage, i.e. — buying votes with our money. But there is absolutely nothing Christian about that.
The Scriptures implore people to give to others as INDIVIDUATES and of their own free will, not that the government should forcefully take it from us.
He appeals to the coveting masses & endorses stealing from the rich. Seems pretty clear to me where he stands on the teachings of Our Lord Jesus.

I believe that the article involves the hypocrisy of, specifically, Charlie Rangel and President Obama invoking the Scriptures in order to fulfill a political objective, while the same individuals steadfastly maintain views that are in opposition to commonly held values of the Church. These same hypocritical individuals tend to believe in the falsely held view that the 1st Amendment clause regarding religion codifies a dichotomy between religion and the governmental process. The Declaration of Independence has references to: Creator, God and Divine Providence. The Founders of this nation invoked the power of God in the deliberations that led to political change. Borrowing from this example by current politicians is not new or unique in our national history and both the pious and hypocritical among them are free to do so. It is left to the American public to determine if the speakers are quoting the Scriptures from the position of their individually held believe in God, or if they are using the Word as a cheap, political ‘sound bite’.

I have written extensively on this theme. People get ideas from people like Rangel and preachers from many of our churches who have bought into the false idea of "social justice". Jesus never EVER supported those ideas. His words were clear. If a man will not work, neither shall he eat. That is a good place to start. Sometimes God rewarded people with great wealth, sometimes he rewarded otherwise. He did not measure man by his holdings. (I have heard a LOT in some other threads about how God hates rich people. God hates ungodly people.) Mostly God asked people if they were willing to give up their riches for the glory of God. That was the measure. Not the glory of the fascists. This burns my shorts, if you cannot tell!
