VIDEO: Fact Checking the President on Gas Prices
by Heritage Videos
As we head into this Memorial Day weekend, Americans will be paying more at the pump than they were even a year ago. According to a recent survey by AAA, gas prices have increased by $1.06 in the past year. But while Americans are busy feeling the pinch and demanding solutions to higher prices, the Obama Administration has little to offer but excuses.
The Heritage Foundation’s newest video takes on several of President Obama’s favorite myths and puts them to rest.
From overstating the affordability of green energy to downplaying the devastating impact of his drilling moratorium, the President should spend less time trying to deflect criticism from his failed energy policy and more time working to ease gas prices.

He'll get prices to drop slightly for his reelection campaign. In the end, he doesn't care how much it costs American's as long as he gets his agenda through. Even if it drives prices way up and puts millions out of work he will keep pushing his agenda.
After watching his toast to the queen, I think he's strictly a talking head. How can anyone use notecards to give a 45 second toast and still screw it up. What a jerk. He's a puppet of the extreme liberals and a moron.
Frankly, even if gas prices go down in the near future, I don't expect them to stay that way for long. Obama's laughable middle eastern policies, especially his recent words concerning Israel, have just about insured that the middle east will erupt sooner rather than later. Does anyone realistically think that oil prices won't go through the roof if there is another Arab-Israeli war?
No matter what Odingles says, or announces that he "intends to do," everyone from the Saudis to the speculators KNOW his real intentions. Just like we do. He WANTS conventional energy costs to "skyrocket" in order to launch his own, state-controlled energy boondoggles.
The price of oil will NEVER decrease as long as this "president" telegraphs the fact that he doesn't want them lowered.
This is exactly what Obama wants. He wants existing fuel costs to skyrocket to fulfill some liberal wet dream of making "green" energy (very much a myth in its own right) look more competitive by comparison.

If he announced today that he was lifting the ban on drilling in the Gulf, and issuing permits the prices would start dropping like a rock, but we know he is not interested in that concept.
"Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master." George Washington
This is his plan. You can't totally transform America without bringing down traditional energy. Money, and especially power, comes to those who control energy to achieve their own ends, and I'm not talking profits.
0bama's going to have to get a counterweight mounted to the back of his head to counteract that continually growing pinnochio protuberance of his. Maybe that is why it is so easy for 0bama to bow to our enemies.
Obama will care about gas prices when he has to pay for his own gas.
To those that don't listen, it is more important for them to stick it to the man (republicans) than do what is right for America. Cut off thier own noses just to spite thier face. That is the face of the sorry and reprobate left.
FACTS:
1.) The USA has more known coal, oil, and natural gas than we can use over the next 200 to 250 years (allowing for projected growth, and depends on who you listen to). If we run out of oil we could convert coal to oil. Look at our progress in fusion power, Is there anyone with half a brain that does not believe that we will no longer be dependent on these forms of energy 200 years from now?
2. Renewables, wind and solar, will not, I repeat not, reduce CO2 levels in the atmosphere or reduce the cost of electricity. The reason Obama wants to make "prices of energy necessarily skyrocket" is so that these pie in the sky ideas can start to compete with coal and gas. Listen to Robert F Kennedy Jr. himself – a big time renewable proponent at this YouTube link – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcm1gmPL50s&fe....
(surely you trust Robert F. Kennedy Jr.) The kicker is at the end – "solar and wind turbines are GAS PLANTS, they need to be near a BIG GAS pipe line." When the wind is not blowing or the sun is blocked by the clouds the gas powered plant is running and spewing CO2 into the atmosphere. It is all a BIG OIL company SCAM.
The President's goose is cooked.
1. The Dems were very effective in linking high gas prices to the power of the President (Bush).
2. If he relaxes drilling rules he ticks off his environmentalist base.
3. If he does nothing and fuel prices stay high, he infuriates everyone else but the environmentalists.
If America was to use it's own known coal, oil and gas reserves then America would once again shoot to the top and leave the rest behind. This is why America has been dumbed down the last 40 years or more. To give the rest of the world time to catch up and even the playing field. You are spot on.
Remeber, his buddy George Soros, the Spooky Dude is highly invested in Petrobra.
Obama said: "Brazil wants to be our main oil supplier, and the U.S.A. wants to be their primary customer"
How Sweet It Is! (Jacky Gleason, 60's era)
He says that there's nothing he can do. But we're sending $2B to Brazil for them to 'explore' the Gulf Coast. I hope he gets grilled about this. But then it depends on who doing the debate. Bill O'Reilly isn't blaming Zero for the oil prices instead he blames the Middle East crisis and the 'Big Oil Bosses' for this. There really isn't anyone we can trust in the news media anymore.
The state of domestic drilling has absolutely noting to do with the current price of gas. It is being driven by speculators in the futures market and if you don't believe it look at what happened three weeks ago when oil plunged $13 a barrel in 4 hours. When you see gas prices moving like they have in the past six months you can bet the players in commodities futures are making it happen.
If we drill a million barrels in Alaska, OPEC will drill a million less barrels. The resulting change in price will be zero. It is and will remain a global market.
Yet Republicans are not exactly lining up to challenge him. If you want to see if the president is vulnerable in 2012 just follow the money. And about $1 billion of the smart money is going to be in Obama's war chest.
Yes, he is the big money wall street pet candidate.
Yup petro chemical companies have been manipulating our government for far too long, it's time to cut them loose and our energy policy as well.
Yeah, and when Katrina knocked out 2 of our largest refineries for a time, prices went up to $4/gal. Yet when those refineries went back on line, prices dropped, or didn't you notice?
Oh, yeah, you were too busy blaming Bush for everything.
http://gas2.org/2008/02/14/germans-release-117-mp... + http://www.hempcar.org/ = profit!
Funny that no other president has ever had to spend a billion dollars to buy a presidency before. I wonder why that is? Lies are expensive.
Why would OPEC drill 1 million less? That makes no sense. There's always a market for oil. And so what if they do drill less. At least we're not purchasing off of them.
Even IF prices are effected by speculation which I agree they are, that does not mean drilling must be banned. One does not follow from the other. There exists no reason to prevent hard working people from mining resources. Its been shown there is little to no environmental impact AND it is actually BETTER for the environment if the US drills in the US instead of pushing the environmental impact off onto another country that does not care so much about the environment.
So your argument is moot. You have no reason to prevent drilling. You are merely a ball and chain holding everyone back for no other reason than to pour sugar in the gas tank of the US to ruin the engine.
And another thing. The FED is broke. They won't have the financial power to stop this drilling for long. Make all the rules you want… if they can't be enforced then they are worthless and hard working people will merely go in and drill anyway. You can't win because your system is unsustainable.
The fact is……Soetoro lies.
Joe Wilson was right.
yes because greedy people want the entitlements to keep flowing. All you're showing here is the thieves outnumber the workers.
I assume BP gave him another $70mil. Boy BP sure likes him.
You must be the stupidest person on earth. Actually you can't be a real person, because your comments are just to asinine for anything except a gerbil. Please go back under your flat rock.
If it were Bush, the media would be blaming him for it! But since it's NObama… it's the middle east's problem.
Ya ya ya Alex Jones I know, but is this truth or not?
Is this the Federal Government dictating that Texas bend to their will and accept clearly unconstitutional infringement on the rights of the citizens? How much longer do we stand for this people?
http://www.infowars.com/financial-terrorism-tsa-h...
"DOJ resorts to economic terrorism, lawmaker compares fight to revolutionary war against Mexico
An astounding Department of Justice threat to cancel airline flights to and from Texas, in addition to underhanded lobbying by TSA representatives, has killed efforts in the state to pass HB 1937, a bill that would have made invasive pat downs by TSA agents a felony.
HB 1937, a bill that would have made it “A criminal act for security personnel to touch a person’s private areas without probable cause as a condition of travel or as a condition of entry into a public place,” was headed for an imminent Senate vote in Texas having already passed the House unanimously 138-0, before the federal government stepped in to nix the legislation."
So the feds now get to write the laws for the Republic of Texas?
I hope all you good little socialists are happy. Bring your papers and your vaseline when you travel.
Freedom was fun while it lasted.
Without a doubt you are a clown. If America made a commitment to tapping it's vast resources the speculators would drive the price down like a rock in freefall. You fail to realize the price of oil is held artificially high by OPEC, a ransom, if you will, and the speculators go up from there, not to mention the cost of shipping oil. Just Google the cost of gasoline in producing countries. It proves, if you have your own, you can charge much less than the world price. As long as the feds don't tax it back up we could enjoy cheap oil and gasoline.
You really think OPEC would turn off the spigot? God, you really are stupid. It's their only source of income! How could they pay for new palaces and servants and shiny new airplanes? No, they would drop the price to 20 bucks a barrel or less to head off America drilling for her own. It would serve us just as well, though we should get off the foreign teat and stop sending money to our enemies anyway.
Quote from an old hag known as Pelosi “drivers are paying a heavy price for the Bush administration’s failure to enact a comprehensive energy strategy. Years of Bush administration policies that have favored Big Oil over the consumers have resulted in record dependence on foreign oil.”
Once again a reminder that this whole "Hope and Change" mentality is a failure.
Actually, I noticed this morning that the price dropped at a gas station near where I live. It's barely over $4 a gallon for regular.
FACT– high energy costs and closing of our power plants is THE ONLY CAMPAIGN PROMISE BARRY HAS KEPT.
Monumental words of wisdom. "The state of domestic drilling has absolutely noting to do with the price of gas…"
I guess the amount of wheat being grown has nothing to do with the price of bread. We could just shut down the farms, and tell the speculators to keep the price of bread down !!! Of course, there may not be any bread….
But…but…but….what if I paint my roof white?
…and a big chunk of that $1 billion war chest is union money….
You must have missed the 70s and early 80s… Even as recently as 2001 OPEC has been able to manipulate the price of oil with supply. Here in Texas the oil derricks stopped turning at about $26 barrel. Many of them went out of business as oil plunged to $14 a barrel. When prices rebounded there was less oil on the market to compete with OPEC.
I don't care if we drill off shore or in Alaska or anywhere else. I don't live there so my opinion shouldn't count. I have been to Kuwait and I've seen what a few hundred million barrels of spilled oil can do to a coast line, but if people want to drill they should be able to.
That said, I don't believe that will make us any less dependent on foreign oil. It's a fungible commodity and all of the oil we drill here goes on the world market. So price-wise, it's not going to help. What would help a great deal is if we all started driving electric cars that could be fuel by coal, natural gas, solar or wind. They could not pump oil cheap enough to compete with that and it would be true energy independence from foreign oil.
No, I'm as real as you. I don't expect you to be able to understand my posts, but thanks anyway for reading.
It's not gambling if you know the dice are loaded. As long as oil companies are allowed to speculate on markets where they have inside information they will use that leverage to keep prices high. The futures market is a zero sum game and the profits for these guys have to come out of someone's pocket. In this case it is American consumers.
Renewable energy will absolutely reduce atmospheric CO2 levels. So will nuclear. So will a conversion to electric cars, as long as we power them from renewable sources. That's never even been part of the debate. The debate is over how long we are going to burn fossil fuels.
If we are heating the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels, and all the science says we are, we will not be able to continue for 200 more years or however much coal and oil there is in reserves underground. We will have to come up with alternatives. In the long run it shouldn't be a problem given the current rate of technology development. Even the spent nuclear fuel problem will probably be solved in 200 years. But in the near term we might roast ourselves. That inconvenient information must be factored in to any future energy plan we propose.
She's right. But it wasn't just Dubya that is to blame. Carter put us on a path to energy independence that was quickly stopped by Reagan. Then the can was kicked down the road by the next three presidents. Imagine where we would be today if we had gotten serious 30 years ago about weening ourselves off of foreign oil. We would have saved a trillion dollars on the Iraq war because our national interest would not have taken us there. Reagan failed us.
He promised to implement health care reform. He promised to rebuild the financial markets. He promised to repeal DADT.
I'd say you are lying or seriously misinformed.
The worst part is, Obama's turd polishers in the MSM are saying that $3.50+ a gallon will be the new normal.
Obama – the president of lowered expectations.
He also promised to take Michelle on a date, and to let his daughters have a dog. So, yeah, I have to agree that raising the cost of living for Americans is not the ONLY promise he's kept.
what you have described are just a few of THE ILLEGAL POWER GRABS BY THIS GLOBALIST ADMINISTRATION.
Did you bother to listen to RFK's sales pitch? Nuclear will reduce CO2 – if the environmentalnuts let us build more plants. However, Wind and SVP is a loser. It would do your brain good to read this page. http://bravenewclimate.com/2011/05/21/co2-avoidan...
The President is not going to do anything to help ease gas prices, slow
inflation, or make anything easy on the American people. This
Administration is hell bent on making all of us dependent on the Federal
Government. Everything is about power with him. He does not like the
American way of life nor anyone who is not an elitist.
He not only embarrasses us in our own country but continually does it
abroad. The American people got what they voted for; he is a community
organizer who wants everyone to be equal because of his lousy childhood.
Obama was raised by grandparents when his white trash hippie mother
and non-American scumbag of a father left him to wither away in society.
He is nothing more than the modern version of TRAILER TRASH!!!
Obama is puppet directed by those interested in making this nation fail. He is George Soro’s house boy and nothing more. He and Michelle have no class and no sense of decorum.
Michelle was overheard whispering in Barack’s ear during dinner at Buckingham Palace. When they brought the salad she asked what fork to use. As the pheasant was served Michelle stated "this is the smallest chicken I ever saw, wish it was fried". Lastly, when the chocolate mousse was brought out she told Barack I told you this only white lady was a racist…
She might finally be proud of something about America… but America should finally be embarrassed about these two.
They prove the old adage… you can take a community organizer out of the community and make him president, but you still have a community organizer in the presidency…
The only price of gas obama knows about is from Moochelle after a hard day of feeding her face at KFC and tacobell
You really can't help putting your foot in your mouth can you? "electric cars fueled by coal, nat gas, solar or wind" Why didn't you mention nuclear? Then you would have a trifecta of things Zero wants to ban, leaving just solar and wind. You do know you have to drill for gas and mine for coal, right?Electric powered cars just plain ain't gonna happen if electricity is only produced by sun and wind. Hell, we'll be back to using root cellars for refridgeration if it's left up to your kind.
As long as the oil companies, blah, blah, blah. It's always the oil companys fault yet, with every investigation they come out clean. You do know they pay the most taxes of any industry, right? You do know the oil companies take far less profit from a gallon of gas than the government takes in taxes, right? You still fail to realize OPEC controls the price of oil, not the speculators.
Your an asshat! … Oil companies are NOT the speculators your dult! … WOW… go back to school, go get an education and come back when you have more than 2 IQ points to rub together.
Oh, I see it's not economics that drives you. By bringing up oil spills it's the enviroNazi part of you against oil. Just as an aside, those Kuwaiti beaches are crystal clean today as with most of the Gulf (in case you want to throw that one in there) Oil seeps out of the seabed all around the world and the earth looks after it. Take a flying hike, prog!
And by the way, you proved my point by bringing up the 70s and OPEC price manipulation. If we could produce $30 a barrel (above your $26 cutoff) oil in the US, we'd be deliriously happy with the price of gas and the economy would be booming here. OPEC drove the price down to stop us drilling, goof!
First off asshat, no, your so-called "renewable" energy will NOT reduce CO2, not in the tiniest little bit, in FACT, to date, NO renewable energy has reduced a single molecule of CO2 output, in FACT, renewable energy has in FACT, to date, caused MORE CO2 output.
Secondly, who the hell cares about reducing CO2? Unless you are also buying into the absolute BS that CO2 is a pollutant (don't EVEN get me started on this one), or that CO2 will cause "Global Warming", er.. "Climate Change", er.. "Climate Disruption", or whatever you wish to call it this week, again, don't even get me started on this total BS subject, I will bury you in it.
Also, do you know where oil comes from? Do you know how it is made? Or are you still believing that there is a dinosaur in your tank? I have a bit of "inconvenient" news for you, oil IS renewable. Oil is being manufactured ALL the time, in very plentiful supply. Time for you to learn a little geology. Could we use oil faster than it is created? Perhaps, that is not an easy question to answer at this time, but we do know that the quantities being created (by mother Earth) are quite significant. "Peak Oil" is utter rubbish and has been known as such for quite some time.
In the long run however (100, 200, 300 years), the ONLY energy answer it going to be an atomic one. There is NO other way to create the massive amounts of energy that the world is going to require. This I view as a good thing. As a person that is environmentally conscious (not one of the destructive environmentalist), future atomic energy solutions will ensure an environmentally friendly and sustainable world. The ONLY way we will reach these solutions is by exploiting the rich natural resources that we currently have, and those do NO include the so-called "green" or "renewable" energies. Those sources are a ruse perpetuated by those with an agenda.
You got that right. I thought he was going to klink glasses with the queen. CHEERS!
