Don’t Worry, It’s Only $400-600 Million to Try Terrorists in NYC

If you needed another reason to be against trying KSM and his band of merry maniacal Islamists in NYC, here it is.
New York City projects it will cost more than $400 million to provide security if the pre-trial preparation and trial of the suspects in the Sept. 11 terror attackstakes two years, which insiders say is virtually certain, according to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
It will cost another $206 million annually if the trial runs beyond two years, which some fear is possible, the mayor’s office estimates.
There may be some who think this is a great way to make the liberal elites on the upper west side put their money where their mouth is when it comes to giving terrorists the same rights guaranteed to American citizens under the U.S. constitution, but, of course, we will ALL have to pay for this.
(Mayor) Bloomberg noted that the cost of securing the 2004 Republican National Convention exceeded $50 million. That took place from Aug. 30 through Sept 2, less than one week. Security is expected to include the closure of many streets around the court house, a very heavy uniformed police presence, snipers, heavy weapons teams, undercover police officers and a massive federal and local intelligence and counter terror operation.
(Senator Charles) Schumer (D) released a statement today saying, “Not a nickel of these costs should be borne by New York taxpayers, because terrorism is a federal responsibility and this is a federal trial. I will do everything I can to see that the federal government fully owns up to its responsibility.”
Money isn’t the main reason trying these terrorists in civilian courts is a bad idea. It’s not even in the top five. But it is one MORE reason the decision by President Obama and AG Eric Holder should be reversed. Most Americans want them tried in military courts.
This is a complete waste of our money and it would set a precedent for ALL terrorists who perpetrate acts of war on us to be tried in civilian courts. How can we justify “minor league” terrorists facing military tribunals if the 9-11 plotters get full access to our civilian system with the right to remain silent, three hots and a cot and a microphone to the world?
This is obviously the way Obama plans to deal with terrorists who attack America. Look at how we are charging Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. If he’s convicted he only faces life in prison. Wow.
The good news is we are still killing the bad guys over there who are plotting and carrying out terrorist attacks.
So, Obama’s approach seems to be kill terrorists overseas without a trial, but terrorists who attack innocent civilians on American soil get constitutional rights. And, of course, we lose the right to interrogate for actionable intelligence that could save countless American lives.
Great plan.
Not to worry, we’re going to start using full body scanners. Whoops.
Well, the bomb sniffing dogs are foolproof. Whoops. Maybe we should start focussing on finding the terrorists instead of finding their weapons.

Chuck Schumer's campaign contributors are receiving an excellent return on their investment, just as Dick Durbin's did for the multi-billion dollar relocation of Gitmo to Illinois.

Last I checked, New York still had to pay Federal Taxes so, YES, New York, you will pay for this circus, as will all of us, well, except those in Congress who keep raising our taxes while not paying their personal taxes. Oh & those at the U.S. Postal Service, they don't pay their taxes either.
I've got an idea, why don't we put these guys on trial in one of the most expensive cities in the world? Oh, wait that's what we're already doing. If they absolutely have to prosecute in U.S. Courts, could they not have went to Idaho or Arkansas where it is very remote and the cost wouldn't be as high. When this all of this is said and done, I'm sure the total price tag will be $1 Billion. So the rest of the country will have to pay to stimulate the NYC economy. I'm so sick of paying for things that do not affect my community or state. As taxpayers, we subsidize the new NYC tunnel, the subway, Amtrak in the New England area, and i'm sure there are many more examples. I live in Memphis, TN. We don't have subways or mass transit, yet we pay for it. Each year Congress diverts more and more money from the general highway fund to mass transit, are they trying to make it where the roads are undrivable and we will be forced to take public transportation? Is it just me and the area I live in, or have you all noticed that most of our roads are in very poor shape and a hazard to safety?
What I want to know is what connections there are between the defense attorneys and Eric Holder.

I'll do anything to keep down the government's cost to bring these people to trial. Heck, the government could send me to Manhattan to provide security for the trial and / or the streets near that courthouse as long as the government provides me with transportation to Manhattan from my current home, houses me and provides a modest living allowance, just enough to eat and to pay for Internet access and my new Apple Macbook Air. That'd really keep the government's costs down and I've got friends who'd go for the same deal, maybe!
Alternatively, the government could save even more money by instead hiring my son to provide that same security, which he could do better because he's a Devildog raw meat kind of guy but I'm much older and meaner and I shoot straight, no corner shots for me. Also, during my monthly vacation, at least one week a month, the government will have to provide for rapid transportation back to my home so my spouse(s) will be happy; could I get a TSAAABC "go around" pass, otherwise frequent travel would be a hassle, really.
Still, it might be better if the government keep those people at GITMO, which of course would necessarily mean our security costs would skyrocket because that would encourage more terrorists to attack us, which means more protection for the USA. So, maybe we're better off, security wise, to bring those people to Manhattan and try them there and close GITMO eventually, at some time in the possible distant future, God knows when, to remove that cause of evilness thusly making those terrorist hate us less, I guess.
Of course, the ROE could be modified because those lead pills cure a lot of ills especially those of the terrorist variety, but we'd have to plastic encased "Miranda" cards just in case the illness isn't fatal for those we meet suddenly in dark hallways and sanddunes and craggy mountain tops.

Does anyone remember Osama Ben Laden believed that it was not the terrorists acts that would destroy America, but the expense? We spend billions to try to stay safe, then we spend billions to convict them. Osama must be very pleased with his plan, it is working to perfection. But Noooooo – this judge has to blow the lid off the first chance he gets…these guys just don't know when to play their cards. It's a loss in the short term, but hopefully it will be a Big win in the long run – let's see how Mr. President reacts to this one. About those body-scans…I haven't heard anyone talking about this, but wouldn't they have to KEEP a record of the scans as documentation (or something to go back and look at to figure out how in the world they overlooked that bomb in Barbie's Bra)? Sure seems like they would need to have that for evidence – which means they'll have to keep All of them, right? And where would those scan records be kept….how long?
Guess we'll have to find someone to hold a glass to the closed-door where all of this is being ironed out…again.

Having family in NYC, I would prefer they be released to a halfway house: Obama's Chicago mansion would be perfect. It's empty, surrounded by all the leftist millionaires who've sucked the city dry for years, and the Secret Service is used to guarding it — now let them protect terrorists from retribution, rather than protecting their boss from ordinary citizens.
Hyde Park is an alternate choice — maybe there's a house available on Ayers' and Dohrns' block. They've got their own University police force to protect them from the ordinary citizens they despise. Think of the late-night laugh-a-minute bull sessions the terrorists would have with our very own domestic terrorists who skated for their bombings and murders. A perfect fit.
