‘On a Day When Others Tried to Divide Us’
by Frank Salvato“…on a day when others tried to divide us, we can regain the sense of common purpose that stirred in our hearts 10 years ago. As a nation, we face difficult challenges, and as citizens in a democratic society we engage in vigorous debates about the future. But as we do, let’s never forget the lesson we learned anew 10 years ago — that our differences pale beside what unites us and that when we choose to move forward together, as one American family, the United States doesn’t just endure, we can emerge from our tests and trials stronger than before. That’s the America we were on 9/11 and in the days that followed. That’s the America we can and must always be.”
– Pres. Barack Obama, USA Today, Sept. 8, 2011
Ten year have passed since the Islamist attacks on the United States of America; attacks that killed 2,977 people in New York, Washington, DC and Shanksville, PA. Since that time we have routed the Taliban from their haven in Afghanistan, dispatched Osama bin Laden to the icy deep and lopped off many of the heads of the Islamist terror hydra. We have grown as a people to better understand the dysfunctional relationship that the Islamic theo-political dogma has with Western Culture. And we have done our best to attain closure, for ourselves, for our society and for our country.
But closure can be hard to attain when there are no bodies to bury and no pointed victory over a vanquished foe. And when closure alludes because of unresolved issues we must always re-examine the event; the moment; the realities.
At the ten year mark, an American president is foolishly stopping short of succeeding in a generational conflict with fundamentalist Islamists…or radical Islamists…or jihadists, you pick the politically correct term the Progressive-Left elitists are sanctioning as appropriate this week. To me, they are the enemy; bloodthirsty ideologues who are committed to ideological conquest by the sword in their quest to establish a global Caliphate existing under the exclusive stricture of Sharia Law. But then, that’s just me…educated on the subject and painfully realistic in my examination. You see, I dispensed with the self-imposed mental handicap of political correctness years ago…and I feel a lot better for having done so. I also see things a lot clearer without the fog of stupidity clouding every issue.
At the ten year mark, a secularist New York Mayor – along with the Progressive elites of his ilk – is advocating for the construction of a victory mosque within the footprint of the fallen World Trade Center. New York’s Mayor Bloomberg, about as self-righteous as they come, is so certain that a “kumbaya” inclusionist approach to fundamentalist Islam will heal the rift between cultures that he refuses to examine the Islamic traditions of conquest; traditions that include building great mosques over conquered lands and, in particular, conquered religious properties. One need only understand that mosques now stand over holy places meaningful to religions that existed long before Muhammad or the theo-political creed that is Islam, established in 610 A.D., to validate this reality.
Ten years on we witness an American Administration that not only sullies the relationship between the United States and its greatest Middle Eastern ally, Israel, but acts transparently in its deference to the Palestinian Movement; a movement of predominantly intolerant, and in many cases violent, Islamists who stake claim to an area that, historically, never existed. It should be noted that these Palestinian Islamists are the same people who danced in the streets of Gaza in celebration of the slaughter that took place on American soil September 11, 2001.
Ten years on we observe an American Administration completely ignoring the sanctity of free speech – a freedom guaranteed in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution – in its advocacy of a move by the Islamic and global communities (via the United Nations) to “combat” so-called Islamophobia.
Nina Shea, director of the Hudson Institute’s Center on Religious Freedom and a member of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, writes:
“An unprecedented collaboration between the Obama administration and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to combat ‘Islamophobia’ may lead to the de-legitimization of freedom of expression as a human right.
“The administration is taking the lead in an international effort to ‘implement’ a UN resolution against religious ‘stereotyping,’ specifically as applied to Islam.
“To be sure, the administration argues that the effort should not result in free-speech curbs. However, its partners in the collaboration, the 56 member states of the OIC, have no such qualms.
“Many OIC states police private speech through Islamic blasphemy laws that the Saudi-based OIC has long worked to see applied universally. Under Muslim pressure, Western Europe now has laws against religious hate speech that serve as proxies for Islamic blasphemy codes.”
It would seem that those who want to honestly examine and debate the grotesque contradictions presented by Muslims of a fundamentalist Islamic bent in their alleged symbiotic relationship with the West face the challenge of censorship should they dare to confront issues such as honor killings, female genital mutilation, gender equality, rights for homosexuals in the Islamic culture, freedom of religion in Islamic nations, etc.
Ten years on from the mass slaughter of September 11, 2001, and reports continuously surface about the encroachment of jihadist terror organizations into the Western Hemisphere. The Italian daily Corriere della Sera, reports that Hezbollah is setting up operations just 90 miles south of Key West, Florida, in Cuba. Reports of Hezbollah, Hamas and even al Qaeda activity in the tri-border area of South America and in Venezuela have been verified. And reports increase with each passing day of Hezbollah corroboration with Mexican drug cartels operating on the Southern border of the United States.
Ten years later and the West looks on as a so-called “Arab Spring” takes hold across the Middle East and Northern Africa. As Progressives, the uninformed and the know-nothing cheerleaders for the Obama Administration cheer the “advancement of democracy” in these lands, they ignore the inevitability that democracy in the Middle East is always subject to the organized forces that be; that the best organized factions within each “sovereign” locale will ultimately win power and, therefore legitimacy on the world stage. The gigantic problem with this all-to-soon-to-become-reality scenario is that fundamentalist Islamists are the best organized in each and every one of these locales.
In Egypt, even though many of us exclaimed the dangers of the Muslim Brotherhood, the mainstream media, along with the Obama Administration and the Progressive Movement, celebrated democracy in the aftermath of Mubarak. Today we witness the Muslim Brotherhood threatening the Egyptian military not to interfere in the crafting of a new constitution.
In Lybia, even though many of us warned that Libyan rebels had extensive ties to jihadists groups including al Qaeda and offshoots that waged war against US soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Obama Administration, along with the presiding governments in Britain and France, advocated for NATO operations to support the terrorist affiliated groups over the clown prince Qaddafi. Today, these rebels not only have Qaddafi’s money, they have his SA-24 heat-seeking missiles and, some fear, his stockpile of chemical weapons.
Ten years on…
In 2006, I wrote of Jonathan Briley. Mr. Briley is better known in his death as “The Falling Man” of the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attacks. I wrote then:
“The mainstream media in the United States has taken the images of September 11th, 2001 off the television and out of the newspapers. They say that the images are too disturbing, that they incite a want for revenge rather than allow closure. But they are wrong to do this.
“The United States should not and cannot simply forgive and forget just because the host country of the Taliban and al Qaeda – Afghanistan – has been liberated and transformed. Facts demonstrate that al Qaeda, the Taliban and radical Islam have been planning and preparing to implement their global campaign of terrorism – their declared war against the Western World – since before 1993, well before September 11th. Their central location for training may have been eliminated but they had prepared for that, splintering like roaches to the four corners of the world, preparing, planning and implementing their battle plans made decades before.
“Make no mistake, they are a cunning adversary. They understood that the US would come after them. They planned for this event.
“This war cannot be about ‘tolerance’ or forgiving, or about understanding the ‘reasons why’ someone would want to murder innocents whether it be with an airplane, a car bomb, a suicide vest or a saif. This battle has to be about freedom and the right of innocents to live their lives in liberty, free of fear from an unholy sect of genocidal totalitarians who offer only oppression, dominance and terror as their bounty…”
With all of the appeasement the West has offered the radical, fundamentalist Islamist community, with all of the advances made by jihadists around the world, with Islamists pressuring governments around the world, from Britain to the Netherlands, Spain to Germany and the United States, to coddle their barbarity; to provide inclusion for their totalitarian theocratic ideology, can we truly say that Jonathan Briley has received any semblance of justice, that his family has attained any modicum of closure? Only the radically dense would answer yes.
So, as we watch the secular commemorations of the ten year passing of the attacks on our country by radical Islamists, fundamentalist Muslims, jihadis, or, if you have dispensed with political correctness as I have, the scum of the Earth, ask yourself: do you feel safer today than Jon Briley did at fifteen seconds after 9:41am, on September 11, 2001? I know I don’t.

Obama currently divides the Nation in virtually every action he takes and nearly every word he speaks.
Now if he would only govern like his speech. The odd thing is… I think, in his mind, he is. It's just the fault of those evil republicans.
Europe demonstrates the utter disastrousness of the policies we are inflicting on ourselves.
Government-run healthcare? Look at the horror stories in England.
Runaway spending? Look at the national bankruptcy and resulting hardship and social unrest sweeping Europe.
Immigration with non-assimilation? Look at the balkanization of European society.
Pandering to radical Islam? In return, Europe gets more terrorist acts and slow encroachment of Sharia law.
In short, Obama and the radical left rush to embrace policies proven to fail in Europe. It requires little prescience to correctly predict where these policies lead. Obama and the left itentionally discard the proven American blueprint for security, success and properity for the the proven European blueprint for defeat, failure and poverty.
It's all Bush's fault, Dochaknow.
.
Ten years later and Obama turns it into Ground Ego.
Has anybody asked Barry where he was and what he felt 10 years ago? Not that I'm interested, I can guess he was at an after-party with Jarrett and Ayers.
"Organization of Islamic Cooperation" ————- "However, its partners in the collaboration, the 56 member states of the OIC"
The 56 member states plus barack's version of the United States. Could this be the 57 states obama was referring to?
It's time to take care of America first! Get rid of the failed marxist muslim Admin. Replace them with real Americans who put America first. Then clean this dam Country out! We're infested with mortal enemies who want to destroy US, replace US, disregard or change our Laws, loaf around all day on Unemployment, committing crimes & costing US billions in healthcare. Why?
becuase the marxist muslim in charge likes Islamists & Illegals. they vote Dem Socialist. They dilute real loyal Americans! They can be easily enslaved, and they have ZERO loyalty toward this country! Thare are only interested in using & abusing U.S! Remove them from America immediately. Stop Immigration until the U.S. is cleaned out. Then, only let in those rare cases.
We can multiply our American population ourselves. We don't need foreigners at all. Lets take care of our own kids for now. We're closed for renovations for at least 4yrs! Return our Country to it's normal American self. We have specific values and American Culture. That is what we have to REINFORCE! and re-build!
Bring back Americanism stronger than ever! Remove the nefarious invaders who have dragged US down! and have no interest in us other than parasitic!!
Can not believe this is even still a discussion.
Can we just let the dead rest in peace.
The Libs and lawyers make this a issue – common sense tells us just do not build it any where near site.
I, can not, in good conscience, support the BHO regime.
That is because unlike his minions……you actually HAVE a conscience
Thank you, Mr. Salvato. This is clear and to the point, and the best thing I have read about 9/11 on this commemoration day.
I cling to a remark that Hugh Hewitt made at the onset of the Obama administration: that it took Jimmy Carter to cure a generation from its liberalism, and Obama will do the same for this one. I pray it is so!
We are entering into the time of the planned caliphate. Obama's appeasement of the towel heads, his disdain for our allies, and his open hatred of Israel all point to his abdication of his oath to protect and defend the constitution and people of the USA. Add to that his open hostility for the industries and free enterprise of this nation by implementing every roadblock his lunatic cronies can come up with to further erode our ability to climb out of the recession he's purposely prolonging.
We have a congress that's paralyzed with fear because of political correctness, they won't say what the majority of people are thinking. Obama is the greatest enemy of freedom this nation has ever seen. He's using our own respect for individual rights against us by claiming those same rights (with a complicit MSM) for those factions that are trying to destroy us.
The enemy must be named. There are three main ones I can see. They are the socialist within the government and unions. The towel heads subverting our constitution. And the MSM that has both within their ranks, advancing the propaganda of the animals mentioned above. Obama is the banner for them all.
As the Boy Scout motto says. "Be Prepared". Our newest time of struggle is fast approaching.
Do not fear, we are promised salvation.
Maranatha.
He was probably telling people how we brought this on ourselves because of our constitutional rights and freedoms that offend the oppressors and their method of oppression, socialism and Islam.
People can't have freedom. How would they ever make the proper decisions for themselves without the guidance of the progressives or the Imams. ALL MUSLIMS AND PROGRESSIVES CAN KISS MY JEWISH A$$!
That's the most striking picture of the day. And shows the difference between the former Commander in Chief and the current resident of the White House.
I am more ashamed of our President today than ever.
Closure alludes? Maybe it eludes.
Americans need to study the thinkers that made up the Frankfort School in post WWII Germany. Marxist to the core, they developed the idea of "cultural" Marxism, now known as political correctness. As the Nazis took control, many of these thinkers from the Frankfort School fled Germany as many of them had two stikes against them, they were Marxists, and Jews.
Most of them fled to the U.S. to work against the Nazis but they also wound up in the Ivy Towers: Max Horkheimer as a lecturer at the University of Chicago; Theodor Adorna, teaching at UCLA; Herbert Marcuse at Columbia, Harvard and Brandeis Universities and who of us doesn't recognize the name of Erich Fromm? And like the snowball that gains size as it rolls downhill, these men influenced other thinkers like Saul Alinsky, who developed his theories from those of the Frankfort School. Who of us doesn't know who Alinsky influenced with the man who lectured at the University of Chicago, now residing in the White House, and the woman who wrote her senior thesis on Alinsky and is currently Secretary of State?
For over 50 years, we have been quietly subjected to Marxism, culminated in the 2008 Presidential election. Yet, we continue to send our children to universities that subscribe to the very political philosophy we abhore.
Now we are being told to get over 9-11. To not be judgemental about a social/economic philosophy cloaked in the mantilla of "religion." We are to ignore the brainwashing of children who march down the streets of Palestine with AK-47s shouting "Death to Israel, death to America." We are told that we have to be tolerant, compassionate, understanding. While radical Muslims plot our death and destruction, we are told we must not fight them on their level, but to "win hearts and minds." And the whole time we relinquish our basic rights guaranteed us by the most miraculous document the world ever created, the U.S. Constitution. We accept that we will be groped and fondled just to exercise our right of freedom of movement, by boarding a plane, in the name of a false sense of security. We willfully allow our 4th Amendment rights to be destroyed.
Is it not time that we stood up as men and got off our knees? Is it not time that we said "no" to those that tell us we must be tolerant and allow those who would harm us to build mosques over hallowed ground, as they did in so many times before? Are we still a free people, are only sheep to be lead into our own demise?
Excellent post! +100!
Quarantine or genocide. There are no other options.
Innocence, ignorance and apathy are words we throw around when the need arises, when others criticize, when bigotry enters our sphere of existence. Never once did I truly take a good look at the meaning of those words until after 9/11/01.
Innocence- For those of us who grew up after Vietnam, innocence was a way of life. We were shielded from evil by the theory of MAD. Mutually Assured Destruction. We were living through a war. A war without battles, a war without tear-jerking loss. We lived through it unscathed, and our innocence stayed intact. We saw no evil, we felt no evil. That lead to our ignorance.
Ignorance- We felt that true evil could only come from another country. Our evil counterpart was the USSR. Other smaller, yet more violent, actions happened around the world, yet we never truly considered them a credible threat. (I remember a certain hijacking that resulted in tanks showing up at the airport in Rome..I had landed there a week later to visit family) Yet the preparedness I saw from the Italian people only made me feel safer at home. I mean who would DARE attack the USA? Right?
And here we are lead to the last point:Apathy- I was told once (by a college student, trying to sound smart) that "ignorance is bliss, unless followed by apathy". That actually holds true today. Once we are thrust into a certain truth (we are no longer safe on our own shores, unless we DO SOMETHING) We have to entertain the horrible feeling that life as we know it is permanently altered. Yet there are those of us who still cling to the innocence (if we weren't there, it wouldn't have happened) and the ignorance (It's only been going on since GWB came to office) and finally settling on apathy (you dicks only bring this up to score political points) That proves the point. No matter how much crap we have to deal with, there will always be people who claim innocence, ignorance and apathy far after those ideals have been thrown out the window.
I can only hope that we will survive as a country.
The original American patriots were those individuals brave enough to resist with force the oppressive power of King George… Patriotism is more closely linked to dissent than it is to conformity and a blind desire for safety and security."
— Ron Paul
Our parents and grandparents, those who survived the Dust Bowl, the Great Depression and live to make it home from the shores of Normandy, made one tragic error; they so desired that their children never experience such hardships, they shielded us from the reality that evil takes more than one form. And while the post WWII generation accepted the advances in modern technology, but it never once occured to them that with that technology we lost the security that was provided by a great expanse of water. They did them no favors.
When Vietnam came along, the youth generation of the day had long listened to their parents and grandparents saying "I hope you never have to go through a war like I did", so they rebelled with drugs, sex and rock and roll. They marched and protested, thinking "Peace" was the answer. And our politicians lost their will to fight a war with one result in mind, to win. And all the while, the Frankfort professors taught their Marxism to those college students.
We would not be human if we didn't want more for our kids than what we have. However, there was a shift in the paradigm of society. I know a man who landed on the shores of normandy soon AFTER the assault. He spent the entirety of his time seved in the Eurpoean theater. He ended up raising a bunch of leftists. I can't fault the man for being so anti-war, after having endured a far more violent and personal war than any of us will ever have to deal with. I do however, find fault in his children (some of my closest friends) for not respecting his service, and using his suffering to attack that which he fought for. There's a difference between remembering and loathing.
Breitbart talks about the Frankfurt school in his book. I had heard about it through Frontpagemag.com and other sites like jihadwatch.org many years before. It was the introduction of the concept that is "Political Correctness".
I say nuke'em all, and make them glow, and use their a**holes for runway lights.
I wonder, if, "Christ and Heaven" are rejoicing hearing the reading of ,"Psalm – 46" on this September 11th. Not many knew today is now an, "official holiday". Our most wise, "Obama" has officially named, September 11th, further-more as, "Grandparents Day". True brilliance !!!!! http://www.fireandreamitchell.com/2011/09/10/wtf-...
We should have nuked the hell out of Afghanistan and said f u to the Muslims. That we didn't is our bad. They need a b slapping like Japan did. They turned out okay, instead we have thousands of our men dead and the terrorists laughing at us and Obama fawning over them and building Mosques in the Mid-East. When did America get neutered? We used to be real, and pro freedom, not anymore, we are a pathetic bunch of people controlled by the media and the Communist ideals. Ok, I feel better now.
The problem America has can be summed up in one sentence:____too many Chamberlains and not enough Churchills.
"Ten years on from the mass slaughter of September 11, 2001, and reports continuously surface about the encroachment of jihadist terror organizations into the Western Hemisphere. The Italian daily Corriere della Sera, reports that Hezbollah is setting up operations just 90 miles south of Key West, Florida, in Cuba. Why does this remind me of pre-WW2 Europe, with all the reports about Hitler . . . and lots of people with their heads in the sand, including Chamberlain (Mr. "Peace in our Time").
Are we going to wait until Iran's nuclear bomb is on line and pointed at Jerusalem? Are we going to wait until masses of Islamists cause chaos in Europe and perhaps bring down governments there?
When do we move? Why do we wait? Every day I feel like we are creeping closer to closer to war and economic chaos.
Thank you for posting that picture. I saw it on the cover of the WSJ and mentioned it on another thread, but couldn't find the picture. That picture really is creepy. There is one man, head bowed, humble and contrite before God. There is another man, head held high, face to the sky, as if he has nothing to apologize for, no sins committed.
It really does say it all.
The sad thing is, I think the Muslims are worse than the Japanese will ever be. The Japanese still had reason and realized that they were on the losing end once those bombs fell.
Muslims – especially the kind that rule Iran and have influence across the ME – believe in the 12th Imam, but more than that, they believe that they can bring the 12th Imam back faster by creating destruction and chaos. If Iran were to get a fully operational nuclear weapon, they would be more than happy to use it in order to bring about their version of the end of the world.
Yes, hard to believe – they are more fanatical than the Japanese ever were. Dropping a bomb on them probably would not work, just like it doesn't work on cockroaches.
In short, Obama and the radical left rush to embrace policies proven to fail in Europe. It requires little prescience to correctly predict where these policies lead. Obama and the left intentionally discard the proven American blueprint for security, success and prosperity for the the proven European blueprint for defeat, failure and poverty. home projects
